Cha-Ching: (Didn't Get It- But I Love It)
    Mercedes C.

Hubs and I love thrifting it and Salvation Army-ing it to add vintage touches to our home. But for everything else, when we want something truly extraordinary, we prefer traveling way out of our vicinity to find that diamond in the rough. You'll find vintage knick-knacks (which we avoided here) and larger items. And the last, is what we wanted. Plus we also wanted a flea market that opens real early and get our shopping out the way. Elephant's Trunk is an outdoor flea market located in New Milford, CT and getting here was a 45 minute breeze when we hopped on I-684. Pre-book online and select which time slot you prefer. There are $20 5:30am slots (yes, that early), $10, 7-8am slots and like $5 slots from 8am-2pm and after that, you pay $0. We paid the $10 because on a Saturday morning, we had other things to do later on but also- who wants to wake up at the crack-of-dawn?? But word on the street is that you shouldn't even bother paying the $20 because prices aren't even slashed anyway. Elephant's T. is home to vendors galore offering something different from the next. From wooden boxes, to old-fashioned construction tools, to1950s Coke bottles, etc. You'll find edgy items the same way you'll find grandma's things. We went for the first. Prices are fair and you can most definitely haggle. Each vendor is an expert in their field. No matter what it is you're searching for, whether it's an antique item, a vintage one or just some great advice; you are guaranteed to find it here. I don't think we came across any vendor with a Square- so definitely bring ca$h.

This has been on my bucket list for a while, don't ask me why - I don't have an answer lol SO disappointed. First the line of cars was about 40-50 cars long to get in, but it wasn't too bad (about 10 minutes) - just frustrating when you see 2-3 cars zip up to the front and cut in. Once into the 'so called' parking lot, navigating through that was ridiculous. No real lanes and when there are some, barely wide enough for one car but everything was two way traffic. The flea market seemed disorganized too, once again no real lanes - it was more like a maze. Stopped a couple of times to see if we already went through those vendors. Vendors are typical of what you would see at a flea market and the food trucks were hawking fried everything. Our main goal was to be outdoors, thankfully it was a beautiful day.

Its a Real Shame that an Outdoor Flea Market is Not Pet Friendly. So many People nowadays travel with their Dogs. They even post a huge sign stating it. Bad business decision if you ask me.

Trying to review this objectively is hard, because I used to come here every Sunday with my dad as a child for years. I have a lot of great memories here. That being said, the demographic here is unique. It's a strange combination of hipster teenagers and a lot of people who... obviously voted for Trump. It's kind of like being in a completely different region of the country in that regard. The items are typical flea market - something cool or interesting once every couple of minutes, then the rest is arbitrary junk. You kind of have to skim and just mentally filter through all the clutter as you walk the aisles. The food here is not good for you, but it is delicious. The fried dough is otherworldly, but to our dismay, that vendor wasn't here this weekend. It's worth going every once in a while if you have some time to kill. My attention span is short and my allergies are bad, so the novelty admittedly wore off kind of fast for me today. Also, they film one of those awful flea market shows here pretty regularly, apparently. We saw the cameramen and actively avoided them several times because I'm definitely fine not ending up on HGTV.

This is one of my favorite flea markets - if you're going, go early because parking can get horrendous, particularly in the summer. The number of vendors varies from week to week, peaks in the summer and starts to decline again until their winter break. Dogs are not allowed, and if you leave one in your car, it's my understanding you'll be greeted by the NMPD upon your return. There are some vendors who are there every week, and some that move around so if you see something, don't plan to come back next week because it may not be there. Finally, there is little shade. Bring sun protection.

$2 admission to see a ton of stuff

We learned about this place from a TV show and took the long pretty drive out there yesterday. Admission is just a measly $2, and for your dough you get access to one of the biggest flea markets you will see this side of Brimfield. There's a lot to love here -from the ton of parking, to the drop dead gorgeous scenery, to the dozens of food trucks, to the close to 500 dealer tables. It really is a terrific place. I can't even begin to tell you what I saw for sale - clothes, furniture, license plates, toys, music, tools, collectibles of every description -the selection is staggering. We had a blast just walking the aisles and taking everything in. I picked up a few music CDs for a buck apiece. We enjoyed every minute of our stay, and I bet you will too.

Elephants trunk on a rainy day - not many vendors came out

We learned about elephants trunk from flea market flip and visited it with high expectations, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The first time we visited was over the summer. Admission was $2 starting at 7am, if you wanted to be an early buyer you had to pay extra. There were tons of vendors selling everything from clothing, to furniture, to games and plants. Lots of food trucks as well! You can get your hand stamped and come and go from your car as you please, and the only rest rooms are port-a-potties. The second time we visited was a rainy day in April and unfortunately there were not a lot of vendors out but we still left with some good items. If you love treasure hunting, it's definitely the place to visit - but make sure you allot a few hours for it!

PERFECT fall outing! Despite being initially turned off by a somewhat crazy parking situation, Elephant's Trunk is an absolute vintage wonderland. Just $2 to enter, and the seemingly endless rows of vendors sell everything from antique jewelry and furnishings to succulents and produce. While the market is definitely expansive, it's more manageable than something like Brimfield. You can wander through in a matter of hours. My friends and I left with arms full of vintage platters ($1 each!), a custom birdhouse, xylophone, and all kinds of magical finds. There are a ton of food trucks (tacos! banh mi! hot dogs! tater tots!) and ample seating (picnic areas and lawn) to lounge for lunch. Get to Elephant's Trunk early for the best stuff - people start lining up before daybreak! If you're lucky, you'll see the Flea Market Flip crew filming there!

Ask the Community - Elephant's Trunk Flea Market

Is there places to get lunch at the flea?

Yes, they generally have about 3-6 food trucks, depending on the day. If fare at the food trucks isnot to your liking, there are also lots of places to eat in New Milford.

Each vendor has a cute little setup, which is nice for browsing, but the pricing? Definitely not flea market pricing. As a reseller, I'm always on the hunt for deals, and there just wasn't any room here. Most items were priced at full retail--or even higher in some cases--which kind of defeats the purpose. Yes, some of the stuff is old, used, and vintage-adjacent, but nothing rare enough to justify the markup. If you're just looking for a weekend wander or want a quirky spot to kill time, it's fine. But if you're a picker, collector, or someone who knows the value of what you're looking at... this probably isn't your gold mine. Personally, I won't be rushing back.

The building is HUGE, and literally jam-packed with individually owned sections (I want to say "booths" but that's not completely accurate)... each containing completely different kinds of items. If you're a collector, there's a good chance you'll find something to add to your collection. Be sure to peek at all the photos I added to get an idea of what can be found. Many of the "booth" owners hangs out near their offerings. It felt like a little community in there and most of the people were friendly. We saw 3 dogs, Two seemed happy and friendly, and one was in a carrier with a warning sign, who was miserable and scared and growling (can only assume he was in that too small container because he bites, out of fear). That poor caged dog was the only bad (horrible really) thing. Hopefully someone there will see this review and find a way to give that small puppy a more humane way to spend his day. It really was sad and disturbing. Overall I'd say that The Flea Market at the Crossing is worth checking out at least once, especially if you're looking for an interesting way to spend an hour or two. Bring someone 50+ with you and watch them remember happy times spent with their grandparents. From the glassware and kitchen tools to the kitchen table in my photos, I found myself remembering he things my grandparents chose for their houses. We didn't buy anything this time, perhaps we'll return one day.
