I am a new patient with Dr. Frances and my initial visit was the result of major spinal pain and…read moretrying to rise, sit and bend over was a major and excruciating experience. went to see if there was any possibility of identifying the " ROOT CAUSE" of the issue(s) as I had years prior been in a mega truck accident and inflicted massive damage from the coccyx thru the neck vertebrae and for the past 5-6 years of medical treatment, primarily in the form of Steroid injections, which helped but now not a bearable situation so the visit. Dr, Francis had some tests run during the initial visit and as an initial action prescribed some medication via injection to aid in temporarily reducing the pain along with a prescription to reduce swelling and pain as well. (MRI ordered) Within the 3-4 hour stated time period to enable relief that did happen as explained and the prescription medication worked with the swelling. MRI results for the spine were reviewed with him today (4-4-2024) and the spine is a mega mess. Absolute phenomenal experience in the up-front examination and discovery followed with interim medications. Follow-up visit today resulted in a very in-depth review of the MRI results and subsequently provided me with a very clear and concise understanding of the written and visual MRI reports. A schedule is currently being coordinated with Dr. Frances, Houston OakBend Medical Center and myself for a very limited invasive surgery. Could not have been a better medical experience with an extremely competent Physician and staff. Footnote to this is, yes, you may have to wait sometime during your visit(s) but as stated in his medical facilities he "will see every patient himself" vs like the majority of medical visits whereas you may never see an actual DR. but a highly competent and Certified/Registered Nurse Practitioner.

There were so many people and I never knew who to call for a situation. I ended up calling the CEO where if I had a call sheet, I could have contacted the person in charge. Weekend nurses station help needs to be addressed. Communication and organization seem to be the worst issue. Good thing is my mother came home stronger than she's been in years!

I recently moved my husband from PAM Rehabilitation Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, to Encompass…read moreRehabilitation Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and the difference in patient-centered care has been remarkable. PAM Rehabilitation could learn a great deal from Encompass's patient-centered approach, particularly when it comes to active listening, empathy, communication, and problem-solving. The case management team at Encompass has been superb. They have consistently listened to my concerns, provided alternatives, and worked with me to identify the most appropriate plan for my husband. My husband was scheduled to be discharged on the 20th of August to another facility, but his insurance denied the prior authorization. Rather than telling me to take my husband home and "figure it out," as the case manager of PAM stated, the Encompass team continued working with me and kept him there while we determined the next appropriate step. I was given options and support instead of being left feeling that I had nowhere to turn. Our experience at PAM was very different. Dr. O'Neil of PAM Rehab blocked my husband from going to The Centre for Neuro Skills and declined to participate in the requested peer-to-peer review stating my 54-year-old husband should be placed in a nursing home. While at Encompass, my husband was again denied prior authorization for neurorehabilitation, which I'm convinced was due to Dr. O'Neil's initial assessment that he should be placed into a nursing home. Thankfully, Dr. Hyun at Encompass was willing to participate in the peer-to-peer review and advocate for my husband. She gladly agreed to do so, and successfully overturned the denial and secured insurance approval for the neuro rehabilitation center. This experience has reinforced for me how important strong patient advocacy, compassionate case management, and physicians who are willing to fight for their patients can be. Families should not have to feel that they are simply being told what their loved one's limitations are or where they should go next. They deserve to be heard, given options, and included in decisions about their loved one's future. If you have a loved one receiving care at PAM rehab of Beaumont and you believe they have the potential to be rehabilitated I strongly encourage you to seek other available options in the Houston and Dallas area. Please advocate and fight for your loved ones. You know them, you know their potential, and you have every right to make sure they receive the best care available to thrive and live a more meaningful life and not be tossed into a nursing home.
