Summary: Got a straight razor shave. Had the person changed…read moremultiple times before the appointment, blade was dull, poor prep and aftercare, and the shave was so bad, I had to shave at home with a regular razor. Long Version: My coworker had been raving about straight razor shaves for months if not years. I finally decided to try one, but he gets them in Nampa, so I looked online for a downtown spot. For whatever reason, this shop was praised. I'm guessing A.I. mixed up reviews for the shop in general and reviews for straight razor shaves. I originally scheduled with April for a few weeks later. About a week after, she called and said something had come up and if I wanted her on a different day or someone else for the same time. I stuck with the same time. I got a text that I was moved to Dre, then immediately got another text that I was moved to Nikki. About another week later, I then got another text saying I was moved to Dre, then immediately another text saying I was moved to Kenyon. That was already weird and I almost cancelled then. I wish I had. I show up to the building and look for a sign related to which door has z43. I couldn't find one. I go inside the only doors that don't appear to go inside a restaurant and I see an elevator and hallway. I look around a bit and can't figure out where z43 is. I look at the elevator again as it has a sign with locations, confirm z43 is here and eventually notice it has sections and z43 is in the "lower" section. Find stairs that go down and finally find the shop. I walk in and see Kenyon and no one else. I really got a lot of signs telling me not to go. I really should have listened. Kenyon was nice enough to talk to, but from what I understand about how great straight razor shaves are supposed to be, this was horrid. I got a single hot-towel warmup to start with. Then he applied the cream and shaved part of 1 side and I immediately noticed "huh, this isn't as smooth feeling as I expected". Then applied more cream and shaved part of the other side. He kept doing this for 4+ separate shaves without applying another hot towel. As time went on, the shave got more and more rough. He was even having to stop here and there to shave at a different angle because my hair was pulling too much. Once only my chin and mustache remained, he finally applied another hot towel. He continued to have issues figuring out what angle would actually cut the hair. Once he was done, he applied 1 more hot towel. He couldn't even press the towel against my face without catching hair and exposing that my face wasn't even smooth. He applied whatever the aftershave stuff is and asked if I was good. I said ya despite being very unhappy and stood and just awkwardly watched him wondering how I paid. After what felt like a full minute, he finally turned towards me while looking at his phone and I realized he must be preparing for me to pay that way. After another several seconds, he finally stuck his phone out for me to pay. I really hate that I gave in and gave a tip. I had never had a straight razor shave before so I didn't know how it was supposed to go. I inspected when I got home and realized, I could have done better in FAR less time by just having at home. In fact, I HAD TO RE-SHAVE AT HOME WITH A REGULAR RAZOR. I also still had shaved hairs on my face too. Didn't even properly clean up. (Not technically their fault, but in being pissed about wasting all that time and money, rushed my self-shave and gave myself pretty bad razor burn on my chin). Maybe it's only Kenyon, maybe it's just z43 doesn't know how to shave, but I will never be back for a shave.

The prices reasonable, the service amazing, small talk was great, amazing attention to detail and great overall work! We'll be coming back for sure. A phone call later and the guys at the shop quickly overrode the 10-minute buffer the system puts in between appointments so my boys could go back to back. It's a spacious, clean shop, with barber services on one side and clothes shopping on the other. My sons liked sitting on a skateboard as a booster seat. Ryan was great... making sure the boys had a chance to tell him what they wanted but still checked with mom, knowing she's the final approver. Both cuts turned out fantastic and we plan to return!
