I've owned a CrossFit and drop in to a lot of gyms...this is one of the top ones I've visited!…read more Programming is done by the head coach and is appropriate for anyone dropping in or regularly training there. The coaches care and provide each athlete individual attention throughout the case. This gym also has an ATA adaptive certified trainer so it's inclusive to people with disabilities :) I'd recommend this gym to anyone!

If you've done much research at all on options for physical fitness, your'e almost certainly heard…read moreof CrossFit and may have images of elite Spartan warriors training by tossing boulders, or workouts so extreme that even the super-fit are left lying on the ground heaving. This is not that. Well, not quite... The Garage (formerly located in the East Village) is a fresh operation staffed by knowledgable and friendly coaches eager to share their enthusiasm for all that CrossFit can provide. The focus for training starts with an emphasis on good form/mechanics (safety) followed by consistency and then intensity. Workouts are varied each time to really drive toward a goal of truly functional fitness. I am a long way from Spartan warriorhood, but all the moves and exercises that make up each workout of the day (WOD) can be scaled to my current ability and strength. While many of the members here have carved themselves to elite fitness status, the attitude is far from elitist. I have not walked in once and not been greeted by random gym-goers. There really is a sense of community and support at this gym. If you're looking for a safe way to find your physical potential, The Garage is well worth checking out. This "box," as the CrossFit community calls the gym, is easy access off of Keo Way, just south of I-235 and North and is located where Owen Crist Towing used to be.

Adamantine Yoga is a yoga studio that is conducive for anyone and everyone. Guides Self Practice…read moreallowed me to feel comfortable as a beginner and not so self conscious about my abilities. A yoga sequence was designed to fit my body and my specifics needs. After I was taught my sequence I simply showed up any time during studio hours, put my mat down and begin my practice. Teachers quietly walked around and gave assistance whenever needed. I progressed in my practice faster and steadier than any other type of yoga class I had previously attended. No need to worry about running late or missing a class time when there is a 4+ hour window of time to put your mat down. The Adamantine yoga sequence is accessible for the advanced yogi to the beginner. I have never felt healthier, stronger in my body, happier and more steady, sound in my mind. I highly recommend you give it a try!

I moved to Iowa assuming my yoga options would be less but didn't realize that mainstream yoga really hasn't hit Des Moines yet, which is GREAT because it allowed Adamantine to be created!! My first yoga studio experience in DSM was at the most well known and sort of corporate place. It was fine. Nothing special. I wasn't impressed at all and was ready to drop my dream of continuing a regular yoga practice until I found Adamantine. Don't get me wrong here, I was a little skeptical of the idea of self-guided practice. I mean, what does that even entail? It's really incredible though. James Miller has crafted a practice that allows my generally hectic and stressful mornings to have a semblance of routine and has taught me more about yoga in 2 months than I learned in a year of traditional studio practice. He combines the principals of yoga and challenging postures into a sequence that literally works for EVERYONE. Whether you've done yoga in the past or are a self proclaimed yogi, his practice will strengthen your body, teach you to breath, and allow you see improvement daily. What could be better?! Give it a try. I bet you'll fall in love.
