Oakwood…read moredental arts seemed like the perfect choice; they were local. they took my insurance, and for check ups and cleanings, my out-of-pocket was absolutely nothing. They also have some pretty high-tech equipment, so it seemed a no-brainer. I made an appointment. They saw me promptly. They did a full set of x-rays. The technician could not have been more gracious and he did a terrific job cleaning my teeth. In fact, the entire staff was absolutely wonderful, until the dentist arrived. First of all he was wearing these magnifying glasses that prevent you from being able to see his eyes, which was offputting. The moment he walked in (he may or may not have introduced himself, I really don't recall) he went straight to the x-rays, announced I needed a root canal and a crown, took a quick look in my mouth and walked out. Now, I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt; he is probably overworked and I'm sure they don't have nearly enough dentists for all their patients. However, I'll be damned if I let someone who spent absolutely no time with me, make such a significant diagnosis so casually. It was time for a second opinion. I took a picture of the x-ray on my cell phone and met with my old dentist. He told me no problem he could fill it and I didn't need a root Canal. Needless to say, I am back with my old dentist and could not be happier. I don't care if I have to go 100% out-of-pocket. I'd rather have more teeth and a little less money than the other way around. And in this case, I have more teeth and more money so it's a win-win. If Oakwood dental arts suggest anything beyond a cleaning and x-rays, please do yourself a favor and get a second opinion from a local dentist who is willing to take the time to do what they can to save your teeth.
