I first visited Shoppen last year when I wanted to get my mezcal-loving husband a birthday gift. I did a little research before I went to the store but was still overwhelmed by their selection. The gentleman working there was incredibly helpful and tried his best to recommend something in my price range. I ended up getting a sample pack of mezcals that Shoppen makes themselves and had a very happy husband. Fast forward to today, I finally got around to re-visiting Shoppen but this time with my husband in tow. Again, the gentleman working there (different from last time) was incredibly helpful and really knew his stuff. He even let my husband try a little sample before purchasing. I have to note that I have not checked out their beer section nor their other spirits, but from a glance, their selection seems to also be pretty extensive. This place is serious when it comes to spirits but they aren't pretentious. They aren't cheap either but again, they hand select (and even import themselves) each and every item in their store, so you will for sure be getting top quality stuff. Both are truly special and meticulous in the best, geeky sort of way. The processes and flavors of their spirit and cocktail recipes are so unique, creative and logical once you take a sip. The menu changes seasonally, but they are going to start a blog with collective recipes, so the world is lucky. The place!! It is evident that so much detail and thought went into the entirety of this beautiful distillery. The sleek and smart architecture is truly remarkable; creating an inviting and perfect space for so many different use cases - from sipping spirits or cocktails at the bar to enjoying concerts, to an intimate private event and more. The more you take in your surroundings, the more you see how each decision was carefully made. Yet it's so unassuming. It's like one of the most beautiful faces you've ever seen with no make up on and not a care in the world. You're in awe and humbled. I realize this is a distillery, bar, venue I am writing about so you may think I'm being a bit over the top. But appreciate every detail of this place so much. The owner is super nice to talk to and very knowledgable about the beers, the food and the area. It is definitely very Belgian and there are many Belgian beers in bottles you can have with food or to buy. The food here was delicious! We only had a snack but it was amazing! We shared the large charcuterie plate between four people. There were three different types of meat, all very fresh and delicious. It also came with bread, cheese, small pickles and the most delicious pate I've ever tried. This place is well worth a stop!

The combination of his quaint shop with classical music, "try this" samples, great deals on exceptional wine, and probably the best (if not most memorable) sandwich I've ever had, made Thirion one of the high points of my week in Copenhagen. Sheer simplicity with great ingredients-crusty bread, Dijon mustard, arugula, salami, and a cornichon pickle, washed down with some red wine made for quite a memorable afternoon. Staff was friendly and helpful. But just lacks the choice of the bigger shops, but there aren't any around in the area. Also if you really want some upscale wine, we never found them in a Systembolaget. Don't know how locals would get these....well, online probably. But it's an ok store to stock up on some booze.

It came out warm and the cheese oozed out as we cut into it. Den Vandrette was the perfect snack place before dinner. With the staff being so friendly, it was a warm experience.
