It also features a nice large classroom space with activities and short films - on the day we visited, it was alternating between videos on elk and eagles. The restrooms were exceptionally clean and in good condition. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The park has a lot of things to explore - and keep your eyes peeled for elk as you go! There was a sighting of a large bull while we were there. There is a reservoir created by a dam that offers opportunities for boating and fishing, and the dam is a great place to get a good overlook of the area. They offer pontoon boat tours on Sundays during parts of the year, but unfortunately, ours got cancelled due to the boat needing a repair. Camping, hiking, and wildlife viewing areas are also available in the park. We really enjoyed our visit here!

This place is awesome! This is exactly what I want when I go camping, or "glamping". The location…read moreis isolated and picturesque. The cabins are extremely nice, well-stocked, and well kept. The location is amazing - you're in a somewhat small area of woods, next to a river, and at the foot of a mountain (well, very large hill). We stayed in Cabin 1 which is at the end and faced away from the other cabins so we felt very secluded which is perfect. The cabins themselves are excellent. The furniture is really nice, there is a great fire pit (with plenty of wood provided!), a jacuzzi tub, a wood burning stove, a shower, and a full kitchen which has all the cooking utensils you might need. Everything is very clean and in great condition. There is a central building on the grounds which I think is either a store or has games and stuff in it, but it was closed due to covid. There is also a path you can walk down which takes you through the woods and close to the river. We didn't see any wildlife on the grounds, but I have no doubt that elks and stuff come through here and you have a good chance of seeing them. Definitely a solid choice if you want a really nice place to stay in Elk County. A few things to note about this place: - The owner doesn't like credit card payments and charges an expensive fee if you pay with one. He prefers you send him a check instead. I sent a check and everything was fine. - You can't drive up to the cabins, there is a parking lot and then you have to walk. The cabins are in reverse order, so the closest one is 10 and the furthest from the lot is 1. There are big carts you use to transport your stuff. I thought this was cool, but something to think about if you're elderly or have issues transporting your stuff. - There is no cellphone reception here, nor in the closest town Benezette. However the cabins have WiFi which works well. - The floor of the cabins looks really nice (stones), but it's super cold and...rock-like, so you'll probably want to wear some kind of slippers or shoes. - The closest town is Benezette which is 5-10 min down the road, but it literally only has like 4 businesses and twice as many houses. There is a WalMart about 25 min away if you need supplies.

The setting was serene. A few families and individuals were fishing nearby during our stay (the water is well stocked), and everyone was very polite. We actually enjoyed chatting with some of them. It added a nice social touch without ever feeling crowded. Most of the time, our site still felt very private and tucked away. The campground staff and owners were genuinely hospitable and made us feel right at home. If you're looking for a quiet, scenic spot with good people and great fishing, I highly recommend this place.

There are pavillions, playgrounds, a learing center with educational events (not during Covid-19), a small store to buy hot prepared food (hotdogs, french fries, etc...), cold drinks and other items. The beach area is finally smoke free for those of us who are allergic to cigarettes, it's a true relief. We can enjoy the day without worrying about our eyes swelling shut because the people next to use wont stop smoking and just throwing the butts on the sand. First, the dam is really cool, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's post-Depression. The original was damaged in a storm but it has been rebuilt. Some of the old cabins and equipment still lingers around the park. We saw lots of people fishing and walking their dogs. (Not at the same time!) On our way in we had spied a beaver dam at the bottom of a power line cut through. We parked and hiked down the hill to try to see a beaver. No luck, beavers are very shy. On the way back up the hill I literally stumbled upon an American Woodcock mom sitting on a nest of chicks. She ran into the woods and we snapped a pic of her adorable brood of five baby woodcocks! (Some call them timberdoodles...) This was such a cool experience. Thanks, Parker Dam State Park in New York for some much needed nature time!
