Talk about well maintained trail with some nice scenic views along the way and nice diversity of trails to choose from lots of elevation gain to moderate. It outside of Denver not sure exactly time cause here only for race weekend. We decided to meet up with trail running group one day. Only Emily ran with the group while Ashley and I exploring walk. Base before start nice they have map of different trail routes, free pamphlet exact routes, and nice warnings for bears. Thankfully not cross one. lol. We started with the group cause different loops some intersect but most start base loop. Some parts single track but most part all pretty wide. I love taken care of see pine tree fell over they cut it down clear the path. There even few bench saw chill and soak up nature. Busy trail runners, walkers, bikers, and groups. If love outdoors and looking for great trail. Elk Meadow Park is winnah! read more

So I have terrible pictures of Elk Meadow Park, but I will say it was a lovely place to hike. It's not super hard and very good for someone who may be a bit of a novice. We were even able to see a deer very close up which was pretty amazing. During the hike, we met a lovely man and woman name Bill and Anita. Both were so sweet and gave us some great places to check out. I just hate that we didn't get a chance to check all of those place out. This area is dog friendly, so you can take you pooch out for a nice short or long hike depending on what trail you do. read more

Did a nice 4 mile loop today! The trail I did started and ended with wide open space. The middle portion of my hike was covered by trees with outlooks throughout. Not too much elevation. Great beginner hike for those like me who are brushing off the holiday lag/inactivity & trying to get fit again. Next time, I would like to try to go for a nice trail run or bike ride here. The trail was decently busy. The loop I did I would rate as Easy/Moderate, but there are other trails to choose from that looked longer and more difficult. read more

Um, why is this dog park not the hot gossip amongst everyone? It's definitely the best dog park I've ever been to. Rolling fields of grass, mountain views, hikes in the trees, boulders, a creek and 3+ miles of trails. When I first got out of the car I thought we were in the wrong place, because it was so nice, until an unleashed dog came bounding out of the woods. Then about 15 minutes into our walk I thought people were letting their dogs play on some farmland, but it turned out that was the enclosed area of the dog park. We walked about 30 minutes or so on the trails and through the woods without seeing another human or dog. My dog was excited about that since she's not very social but does enjoy going bat-shit crazy off of her leash. Take your dog here and they will be the happiest ever! read more

Really enjoyed our afternoon hike out at Elk Meadow Park with the muts. Lots of open space for them to run and play. The other owners we met on the trail seemed cool as well - very willing to let dogs be dogs - that means letting the dogs play and use their voices without unneeded and often unnecessary correction. For us, this was a welcome change. We have a blue heeler mix who is a bit big for his britches and rather than ushering their dogs away when Gus yelped, the larger dogs put him right back in his place. He needs that every now and then. Humility is good, lol. Only caution here was the icy pathway... but then again, you can always use the "old man shuffle" and inch right through like we did. Well maintained trail system that's easily accessible from the Denver area. The park offers trails for tougher incline hikes or more moderate and flat hikes. If you come early, you may see elk and other wildlife. Do come early for those who try to escape the crowds. Also, if you bring your dog, be sure to pick up its poop! So many elk! All relaxed in the meadow, such a treat! Dogs must be kept on leash the entire hire despite what other reviews say... I got ticketed by a ranger for letting mine off leash. =( Fair enough, I didn't read the signs at the beginning of the trail. Just a shame because there are huge open spaces that my dog absolutely loved. The inner loop is covered and shaded and the most picturesque. The outer loop is exposed and you can hear cars from the highway the entire time. read more

This was the greatest dog park ever! Acres of trails, shade, water... But, it is closing. My dog and I are very sad about this. It also means we will not be going up to Evergreen very often anymore, where we would stop for lunch or a beer (i.e. spend $ at locally owned businesses). This dog park is amazing. There are 2 large fenced in areas (7 acre with 4 entry gates, plus an additional 1 acre area that is flatter and clear of trees), and a huge additional off leash area extends beyond the fenced in part. For much of it, you can't even see the fencing on the other side, so it doesn't feel super enclosed. I'll attach some photos so you can get a feel for the place. It's hard to tell from the photos, but there is metal fencing in addition to the wood fencing, so other than the tiniest of Chihuahuas, it is adequate for keeping doggies in. Elk Meadow Park is a much larger space than just the dog park, so if you want to park close to the off-leash area, take the second entrance: go west on Stagecoach Boulevard from hwy 74; proceed about 1 mile and you will see a sign like the first one pictured here. Park in the lot on the left (south) if you can, so you won't have to cross the road with your dog. I'm sure the rest of the park is lovely as well, but I only hung around the off-leash part. It's so much bigger than I am used to by a magnitude of about 20. And truly beautiful. It feels like you're just hanging out wandering the mountains with the dog, who I am sure appreciates the freedom to walk untethered with you. Amazing off leash dog "park" - but also great low key hiking! Only 30 minutes from Denver, and there are fields where you can throw balls, streams where puppies can get muddy, and boulders to climb on. It can get packed on the weekend so this isn't a great place if your pup isn't good at coming when called. But if you want an off leash huge open area where your dog can play with other dogs, this is the spot. One of my absolute favorite easy dog friendly places to hike outside of Denver. read more

Took the pups here today and I am in LOVE! The drive there is scenic and easy. Be warned that this is a hike for not only the pups but for the adults as well! Once you arrive there's a few parking options. There are two small lots (very small) that are usually pretty full and there's also places to park off to the side of the road. You just have to be careful because there are lots of cars passing through although most are courteous to you and your dogs. Now for the fun part.. the actual park itself. It's very spacious and although the entrance is fenced, once you start hiking down it becomes more of an open space. If you don't trust your dog this isn't a good place for you because the dogs do wander off playing and it's up to the owner to keep up. It was a very decent hike as my two big dogs were pooped after just a couple hours. There are trails to walk on and there's also little bodies of water that the dogs can play in -- it's great for a hot day like today. You do need to bring your own water and baggies to pick up after your pups. They do have baggies at the entrance but the park itself goes pretty deep and you'll need extra. The people here are very friendly and very laid back when it comes to the dogs. if you don't like your dogs socializing too much with others & running off with them then this isn't the place for you. This is the best dog park EVERRR! One should use the term "dog park" loosely though, because this place is so much more! Hiking down the mountainside to the creek with the puggle running and scampering around. Other dogs also play along but oftentimes we have the trails to ourselves (if only for a bit on super busy days) :) After running thru the creek, hike up the other side and take the loop around, back down and out again. THIS IS NOT CLOSED. I hiked here on 12/2/17. Our family previously spent about a week in evergreen in 2016 and it is such a beautiful area. Most recently We did a 3 mile hike on a trail here and it was amazing. So much beautiful scenery to take in and overall the trek was fairly easy. In some areas the trail narrows and in winter months you may need shoes with treads or hiking sticks (not sure if this is the right hiking jargon), but on a recent beautiful day we had no issues with navigation. Altitude is about 7700 which Took a bit for me to adjust to but once out in the fresh air any uneasiness faded. I would love to come back and venture out on other areas of the trail! read more

This park offers a variety of options from an off-lease dog area for hiking, regular hiking, and mountain biking. There is a big prairie area but also a forested area with an incline to Bergen Peak. I saw a lot of people hiking all over but I opted for mountain biking. One reason is that I have never done. The other reason is that I prefer a bigger incline that 1700 ft (up to about 9700 ft). Originally, we were going to just ride around the lower loop, which is why I agreed to go. The next thing I know we are making our way up to the summit. It was a pretty great experience and a great workout. The very top of the trail is a bit difficult where you probably need to ride your bike but, if you're in shape, you should be able to do the majority of it. The way down was surprisingly fun (I thought I would freak out by it!). Unfortunately, there were switchbacks where you have to stop or completely slow down. At the 'bottom', we did the lower loop, which was nice without much incline but it was a smooth rolling ride. I was told the lower loop is a technical 2 and a difficulty of 2. Going up to Bergen Peak it is more of a 4/4 (on a 5 point scale) and it took us 2 hours to do a total of 10 miles (breaks not included in the time). read more

Seems more of a dog park rather than a hiking trail. My friend and I came here today and EVERYONE had a dog, which was totally fine. We hiked the upper trail for about 6 miles round trip and the hike was great. Personally wouldn't call it a hike, more of a high elevation loop. The views? Good, nothing too crazy, only great part was the aspen leaves changing slightly which was nice. read more

Not just a dog a park. There are a ton of trails and things. You can hike here, horse back ride here (judging by the piles of horse poop I see on the trails but I've never seen horses), and mountain bike here. Yes there is an off leash dog park here but I haven't been to it so I'm just reviewing the park itself and trails. They're all very clearly labeled. Also when you first get there there is a big map and free little paper maps to take if you think you need them and have no sense of direction. We take our two dogs hiking here. Why not 5 stars for the park? Two reasons: One, the trails are pretty narrow and it's hard to walk with someone and walk your dog, and have a biker pass you. And two, a lot of the bikers don't yield to you. Bikers are supposed to yield to people but they don't. read more

We parked at the Stagecoach Trailhead and the hike round trip was around 8.5 miles. It took us 2 hours to get up and around 1.5 hours to get down but we trail ran most of it. The views are great and it's around 2,000 feet of elevation gain. We started at 6:30 a.m. and the parking lot was completely full when we got back. read more

This place is amazing. I love the multiple off leash dog parks and especially the hiking trail. There aren't usually a ton of people here and you can get some great (easy) hiking with your dogs! We took out littlest dog here when he was just 6 months and he did great on the trails! Easy to get to although the parking is scant on the one side and sometimes it can be scary crossing the road to get to the trail from the other lot. Otherwise I love the park, trails, and overall atmosphere!!! read more

This kills me to have to update my review like this, but so it goes. The dog park itself is still stellar. Love it, love the land, love the trails, and the ability to allow Gaucho to run around and play in streams and be a happy dog in the woods. However. After a year of being a regular at this park, I have a few bones to pick. My issue lies (mostly) with poop. Monthly, there is a poop pick up party. Dozens of volunteers waste their weekend time to pick up waste. And STILL there has recently been threats of closing this park because of contamination in the water because of too much poop. Every time I go, I see somebody watch their dog take a dumparoo a few feet off the trail and do nothing. People. This is a free park. It is your responsibility to pick up after your dog. Don't be a mega jerk, because I will call you out in front of your Patagonia friends, hand you a baggie, and watch you pick that crap up. And I will be a creep and follow you to a trash can to make sure you actually throw it away. Because if you don't, I'll find your dog's poop, and then I'll find you. And leave it ablaze in a bag on your stoop. I mean, not really on the last part, but myself and many others get fired up about this. Second, many people who come here have no trail etiquette. At all. If you're in a large group, or even a group of two, make way for others when the trail narrows. Nobody should have to go off-trail to accommodate your oblivious group, especially at this park. Just be aware of others, for crying out loud. Third, speaking of awareness *and* poop, I've seen so many single trail-goers off doing burpees in a beautiful aspen grove, while Rover's over planting butt sausages all over the trail. This is a dog park, first and foremost. Keep an eye on your dog, pick up after them. Those are the rules, and after that, Elk Meadow is your dream delight park! But follow the damn rules. You're ruining it for all of us. PS To achieve Super Stellar Elk Meadow Goer Status, stay on the trail (unless you're picking up poops), especially near the switchbacks by the parking lot. read more

Since many people refer to their dogs as their children, I guess that would make me the step-mom to an awesome dog named Ralph. And, when Ralph comes to visit us on the weekend, I tend to spoil him rotten. This weekend included a trip to the Elk Meadow Park in Evergreen. This place is amazing! As others have mentioned, the trees, fields and spectacular views make this place amazing for dogs and their people to explore. Additionally, if you forget bags and water, they have that available for your pups at a couple of spots. And even better? It's FREE. This place is definitely worth the drive from Denver; pack a picnic and make an afternoon of it. That's our plan for next time! read more

This fantastic JeffCo Open Space has something for everyone, people and canines alike! On one side is a fantastic 100+ acre off-leash dog park with several easy loop hiking trails and two spacious fenced-in areas, one grassy and flat and one with varied terrain. A creek runs along one of the trails and the property is full of trees and beautiful scenery. We visited on a weekday and there weren't a lot of people around but I imagine it gets very crowded on the weekends. Across the road is another system of multi-use hiking trails, but dogs must be leashed there. We didn't do the steep 4.7-mile trek to Bergen Peak but that's a hike for another day. Instead, we hiked one of the many loop options and the terrain is fairly easy going. A couple of clusters of grills and picnic tables and a quartet of clean vault toilets sit just beyond the trailhead. There is also a non-potable water pump for the pooches and horses. The two parkings lots are small, so my suggestion is to come early and bring a lunch so you can hang out for a good long while. read more

Don't let yourself be deceived. This is no longer an off leash dog park. I drove 40 minutes here so excited to let my pupper freely roam and explore the forests of Colorado. Only when I got there, there were signs everywhere about how it's against the law to have your dog without a leash. Almost every picture on Yelp is of a dog enjoying itself during the parks off leash days. So if the off leash park was such a hit, why did they close it down? Super pointless, if I wanted to walk my dog on his leash I can do that in my neighborhood. Definitely won't be back.... read more

We took the two German shorthair pointers yesterday and they had a blast. It was a natural obstacle course for them. I stayed on the trail and they romped through the fields, climbed rocks, jumped over fallen trees, splashed in the creek, and investigated every tree. I was concerned that it was going to feel crowed because the parking lots were full and we had to park on the side of the road. I was surprised it didn't feel crowded at all. Dogs were so interested in the wilderness they would just greet each other and move on because their was sooo much to do. We did see a fair amount of dogs but ya not like the normal dog park where there are 20-30 dogs in a confined space and they all have to get along. Getting there was a but tricky. My ifone (spelled that way on purpose) took me to a subdivision of houses and the park was really further down the road. After you turn on stagecoach keep driving until you see the brown sign that says dog park. There is a picture of the sign that somebody else posted. Safety tip - My friend told me there are some cactus so be careful and bring some tweezers for your pups just in case they happen to step on one. I didn't see any myself but his dog did step on one time. read more

Leash on...just a little bit more. Almost there. Do not take a ball...crazy terrain ahead. Dog, dogs, dogs...everywhere...off leash. Love it! True mountain hiking...up trails...down trails. Streams...mud...running...dirt. This is real...Colorado style...not some square fenced-in park in the suburbs. Go...your dog will love it. read more

This has to be one of the best dog parks in existence: over four miles of trails where your dog can explore, sniff butts, raid the creek, and generally have an awesome time. FOUR MILES. And it's beautiful! You'll enjoy the hike as much as the little wagmonster. Without hyperbole, it is probably bigger in area than every Denver dog park put together. Although dogs routinely walk off leash on most (especially deep) mountain trails, it's great to have a place where that's the point. This dog park is awesome. It's not at all the barren wasteland dirt field that so many other dog parks are. It's got both a fenced in and no fence area that are both off-leash. There's lots of trees, plants, streams, and other crap you normally expect when outside. Since it's in Evergreen when it's 90+ in Denver it's only in the 70s (or maybe below) at this park. Perfect for your big dog that hates the heat. Yeah, it's kind of a drive, but the way home is all downhill. I went twice this week and I live by DU. Make sure you check your dog for ticks afterward, though. read more

I had heard a whisper this was a great dog park. Holy Moley. I'm in love with a dog park. 107 acres with off leash hiking trails. All amazing. There were times I felt like I was the only person out there. The trails are nicely groomed and marked. There is a creek the dogs can run through and many places to just explore. My two came back exhausted for the rest of the day. I came back happy from a light hike. Completely worth the drive out from Denver. read more
