This is probably the dog park with the best views in the Denver area. It's pretty clean and I really like that. My dog loves this park. Most of the dog parks in the area are just gravel, but this one actually has grass. There's also dog training equipment there. It is a great place for your dog to play and it has some really awesome views. read more

This is our first time in Denver, so we didn't really know what to expect. Long story short, I'd check out other dog parks before going here. Dogs and people were great, dog park not so much. Pros: lots of dogs around 7pm of all energy levels and play styles. Large and small dog area. Both fenced. Fun agility structures. Some trees for shade and benches to sit at. Plenty of space for dogs to run around. Cons: Near a busy highway and doesn't have a double gated entrance, so you have to keep an eye on your dog to make sure they don't run out of in the first fenced area. Lots of large, rough-looking stones covering the ground at the entrance inside the park. Dusty. Water isn't accessible inside the park and the tiny bowl that's there needs to be repeatedly refilled, so bring your own water and bowl. Not a huge con, but the parking lot is a short walk from the park. Something to keep in mind if your dog is like mine and can barely keep her composure when she knows she's near a dog park. Also, not a knock against the dog park, but the toilets at the park were some of the worst smelling toilets ever. I get that they are supposed to be composting toilets, but ain't nothing composting in there. Someone needs to throw a few dry hay bales in there to balance out the chemistry. read more

Usually, it's a great dog park for those who frequent it, but lately, it's gone downhill. There are a lot of foxtails in the park that aren't taken care of, and it's too rocky to play fetch. Today, I also had, unfortunately, a very aggressive encounter with an irresponsible dog owner. An older gentleman's pitty mix named Quinn went after my dog, and I had to break the fight up. The owner did nothing but scream at me, telling me the dog fight was my fault because my dog was still on leash when we first entered the dog park. While I understand we have a different opinion on dog leash etiquette at the dog park, the bottom line is his dog attacked mine, unprovoked, and continued to go after my dog, who cowered in a corner. You should not bring a reactive dog to a dog park. There are also no state laws or dog park rules about dogs being on leashes at the park (shout out to the bystander woman who tried to throw that in my face and get involved in a situation that had NOTHING to do with her). Thank you both for not asking if my dog or I were ok from your dog biting us. Animal control was notified, and the bite was reported. read more

Good size dog park with lots of activities for your pup! It's quite hilly so get ready for a quick workout walking with your dog or you can tire your dog out easily with them running up and down hills. There's a small obstacle course for the agility dog! The see saw plank is the only one that needs replaced as part of it is broken. LOTS of tennis balls scattered throughout. It wasn't too crowded when I was there with my pups and they had a great time romping around. Not for someone who is looking for flat ground. read more

Since I found myself on Yelp today... Upgrading back to four stars for this park. As I thought might happen, the number of clueless owners with aggressive dogs has dropped off since the end of summer, despite the weather having held out for so long. Weekday mornings have become the time I tend to go if only because it's the most convenient for me. The water fountains were turned off Nov. 1, so you need to bring water with you. Teeter-totter is still a mess; I really recommend not sticking your dog on it, especially if your dog is not familiar with such things. It's so splintered and broken on one end that I'm afraid one of these days someone's dog is going to get impaled with something. It doesn't help that lately there have been children permitted to climb all over it and slam the broken end in to the ground repeatedly (gee, I wonder how it got broken in the first place... hey, have I ever mentioned that the DOG PARK is not a PLAYGROUND? There are signs right there on the equipment that say its for animal use only... that applies to you, too - your kid is gonna get hurt one of these days and it'll be your own fault...). Balls abound! I appreciate the people who buy balls specifically to bring and leave at the park. Moreover, my dog appreciates it as well. In fact, he has claimed all balls in the name of Himself. A wonderful park! It is smaller than the Cherry Creek Dog Park (my usual dog park) and it does not have a water aspect (river, stream, pond, etc.). Both of those traits can be a positive or negative, depending on your needs. My dog loves water, but there are certain days that would prefer he did not get wet! There is agility equipment. The view is amazing! It is nice to be in a park in Denver and feel like you are in the mountains, which is caused due to the view and the elevation changes within the park. There are two gated areas, which I am assuming is to divide the high energy dogs from lower energy dogs. I went when there was very few people out, so we all stayed in one gated area. Everyone was very friendly. Looking forward to coming back! read more

The people that visit seem to be great and well versed in dog park etiquette! My dogs love this place and it's nice that there are two separate areas for different dogs/environment! You cannot beat the views at this park! It is almost all dirt, very little grass and no gravel, so not ideal if it's rained recently. There is one huge area that has tons of running around space plus a lower part with obstacle course equipment. Then there is another fenced area that I thought was the large dog space, but there were larger dogs in both spots so I'm not sure. Since there is no designated small dog/big dog areas, I wouldn't think it would be optimal for those with very small dogs. Both of mine are between 20-25 pounds and I only saw a couple dogs that were smaller than they were. Both times I've been here it was a weekend and the other people were friendly. One time, there was a brief tussle (I use that word because the owners both responded quickly and neither dog came out hurt). I feel like no matter what dog park you go to, there is a possibility of that happening. I'm sure it's a toss up whether you're going to encounter irresponsible dog owners or not, but everyone was great the times I've been here. read more

It's a good size park. Not as large as some others in the metro area, but it's large enough for your furry friend to lose some energy. Parking for the dog park is tricky and limited, but I was lucky to find a spot right near the entrance. The park also has some fun competition course stuff for the pups like a seesaw, ramp, and tunnel. There is a water fountain near by, and people leave jugs of water near a few community bowls at the entrance. We'll be back for sure. I edited this a week later after I realized there are two dog parks. It seems like there is a small dog park and a big dog park. I couldn't distinguish the difference between the two. The side closer to the mountains is a little bigger, more grassy, and on a hill. My puppy was pooped after running up and down the slope. Mission accomplished. read more

This park was pretty neat. I loved (or I should say my GSD) that there are fountains for the dogs and plenty of fenced in area for the dogs to run and play. At the bottom of one of the fenced areas, there's an obstacle course for those wanting to teach their dogs to run a course, exercise or (in some cases) for the dog owner to stand around and look stupid...since some dogs don't want to participate. =) There is a short path (maybe 0.5 miles) that circles the park. All paved. It is a beautiful walk. The views make it easy to enjoy the walk, even when you're going up a steep part. There seem to be 2 parking lots. The one I parked in was gravel and very bumpy walk to the paved path (I had a conventional stroller with baby). The second lot (I that I didn't see) is paved and has a small sand play area for kids. One of the most important things (to me) is the bathroom (even though it's an evaporator...ew). I feel like that is far better than a smelly port-a-potty that some parks have. We have been back several times, but only to let the dog play. The trails (that I found) aren't as long as I'd prefer...and I don't really get in to walking several laps. One last thing. This park is run by the City of Lakewood. This park does not have a map of paths or distance. I've called Lakewood, they only have a large master map of all the parks in the city limits. I'm a little disappointed, because some of these parks have miles and miles of trails. If you're looking for a quick outing and a place for your dog to play, this is a great place! read more

The location is gorgeous, right next to Red Rocks. I love the split yard feature- A huge field on one side/ awesome agility course on the other that my Aussie had so much fun with! Cute pavilion at the top big enough for big parties. Dinosaur Ridge Mountains in the backdrop. A natural forest style hole toilet is a little bit of a bummer, and the water fountains did not work-wonder if because of time of year. One of the most irresponsible things you can do as a dog owner, is to not pick up their sh*t! Dogs feces can contain diseases like worms that can be extremely passable by just a sniff! I hated that people very "accidentally" "not noticing" their dogs popping, and had no control over crazy dogs. To add to that, a woman brought three large dogs that were intensely erratic and within 20 seconds of dragging her into the yard, one sprinted up to my dog, and snapped him right in the face! *~!Please people, if you cannot control your pet, it is not allowed in a public off leash area and that is the law!~* read more

I am a fan, for sure. Every time we've visited, we've had a pretty good experience. Most of the dogs are friendly, as are their human companions. There are some dogs that get aggressive and I agree that their people don't always watch out and try to prevent an incident before it happens. My kids enjoy coming here and are delighted to be able to interact with so many kinds of dogs. I don't like that I tell them to stay off the agility equipment while I watch other kids who play on it without a word from their parents. Anyway, since they're the minority, it's not that big of a deal, so we'll be back. read more

The best part about this park is the views, but I pretty sure my D oh G could care less that there are great views of the city and Red Rocks. So I'll start with the positives. The park is well done. Baskets for extra tennis balls, nice fencing, water fountain for the dogs, all in all the infrastructure of the park itself is great. Neutral Notes: I like and dislike the hill at the same time. The entrie park is on a hill, you enter at the top and the park descends below you. This makes it very easy to throw a ball a long way...but also makes it so all the humans congregate in one area. And on to the Negatives. Parking is horrible and potentially dangerous. There is a spot at the bottom of the hill that continually forms into a mud puddle....so as soon as one dog lays down in it all of the others follow suit and the puddle is too far away from the "human" area to stop it. Because the Humans stay at the top of the hill (which is fairly steep) not as many people pick up after the dogs. Which is problematic for those who want to roam around the park. In generaly in about 15 visits to this park I've found the people to be less than friendly and not suprisingly their dogs follow suit. I've seen more bad behaviour by dogs at this park than any other All in all, although this park is closest to my house, I drive the extra 5 minutes and go to the park on Bowles and Santa Fe. read more

EXTREMELY AGRESSIVE DOG. I went to the dog park yesterday and had to leave due to an extremely aggressive dog harassing my dog. We had to leave within less than 5 minutes of entering the fenced area due to me and my dog feeling scared and harassed. She was a mid-sized female white pitbull mix with enlarged nipples and an undocked tail. She was following my dog less than three feet away and barking aggressively without wagging its tail. She scared my dog so bad she starting whining and jumping up on me to get us to leave. Once I started crying and yelled for the owner to call their dog off a man came up and called the dog, but he was oblivious and did not intervene until I yelled at him, and he never apologized. This dog was clearly hormonal, and should not have been at the dog park. I in no way blame the dog, or the breed, on the dog's behavior. By the size of her nipples, she was either pregnant, in estrus, or nursing. With that many hormones pumping through her body, of course she was dominant and aggressive around other female dogs. That owner should be much more aware of his dog and her behavior. Owners like that give pitbulls a bad name. Depending on why she's hormonal, this dog could exhibit this behavior for a few more days to a few more months. Please be on the lookout, no other dogs deserve to be traumatized by what's meant to be a fun excursion. read more

This dog park is incredibly disappointing. It's all dirt on a downward ramp to a sad agility course. Strangely, there were more mini dog fights here than I've ever seen anywhere else. Oh, there's a bush there. Plan on having your dog get as dusty as possible. Contrary to other reviews, many owners were scattered around the park. read more

Mediocre dog park. Two areas that are mostly down/up hill and rocky. Not exactly puppy friendly. I've brought my 5-6 month old lab here twice and ran into aggressive/not trained or pup friendly. First was a 5+ year old dog that bit my pups ear and the owner was not shocked at all and seemed to brush it off. He said he was there every weekend. If your dog does this frequently enough that you don't care, probably shouldn't bring it around other dogs. The second was a 1 year old bull dog 100+ lbs that was horny and chasing/sniffing any females aggressively to the point of pinning the females. Chased/pinned/bit my dog when it tried to get away for 20 min. Owner said he is just trying to play and played it off. Can't fault the park for shitty owners. There should be some sort of common dog park ground rules. Next time will be the last if I have issues again. read more

This park has two great areas fenced in for the dogs. Awesome views of the mountains and the city of houses below in the valley area. Picnic tables and a shelter area for sitting. It was great weather to sit and watch the sunset. Outside the fenced area are benches placed off the trails that were awesome to rest before driving back. Bring your own water for your pups though. read more

This is a beautiful dog park! There are two sides to this so you can choose to bring your dog to a less crowded side if that is the case. Both sides are very spacious and start at the top of a huge hill. One side offers agility equipment if you want to take advantage of that. The views are great! Right next to Green Mountain you have a view of Red Rocks and the Front Range. It does get crowded and some of the people seem to be a little unaware of their dogs potential to start a fight. That is the biggest downfall. This is our go to dogpark since it's close to home and our dog loves the exercise the steep hills offer! read more

There is a very large area of dirt for dogs to run around unleashed to play in. I wish it were grass but I guess dirt will do. The views outside of the fenced area are absolutely breath taking. The scenery is just beautiful. I only came here twice during the day on a Wed and Thurs and it was mostly big dogs and a few medium dogs. It wasn't really the right place for my 3 lb morkie. My doggies loved it! Lots of other dogs to play with, and they had a blast running up and down the hill. Nice varied terrain, giving the dogs many places to sniff and explore. Some agility equipment was at the bottom of the hill, and even though mine had no idea what to do with it, it was nice to watch the other dogs play on it. There's a small trail around the outer perimeter of the park to take a little walk. Oh, and the view is spectacular! This place is awful. Not so much because of the park itself; it's got water, good views, and a decent amount of space. My only complaint about the park is how rocky it can be (which tend to tear up my dogs paws that's like to chase the ball). My biggest issue is the other owners with their dogs. There hasn't been a time I've been there that someone has had an aggressive dog there where a fight broke out or owners that let their dog do whatever they want (do you see me trying to get away from your dog?) The views from here are great. If it recently rained or snowed I would avoid this park because it's mainly all dirt. Love having this park near the house, and the dog loves it too! It's big enough for most dogs/owners to avoid the pain dog/owner but small enough that you can keep an eye on just about everything from above... That is the catch, lots of owners just stay up top, leaving their dogs to poop unscooped.... The many owners are on top of their dogs and responsible, lots just hide and pretend they didn't see, this is a big problem and I have reported it to the Animal Whatever in Golden... They told me to complain to Lakewood... There are two gated areas, both mowed but neither of which is manicured in any way. Maybe I could organize a rock removal on the path & grounds; my dogs feet would surely approve. They need to reseed this park as the original contractor was a complete scammer. It was poorly supervised and the permits must have come by imagination, not inspection. It is so convenient esp now that they added extra parking. Thanks LAKEWOOD! But don't forget this place, we pay for it, now you care for it properly!!!(This park and land swap deal has been suspect for a while, the new Terra neighbors developers built it and left it unattended...) I've been going to this dog park for two years. Let me start of by listing my only complaint about this dog park--there's hardly any grass. The park isn't that old, maybe three or four years. I've heard from people who have lived in the area for awhile that it use to have grass and they would ask people, with a sign, not to use one of the sides so the grass could recover from all the puppies running around on top of it. Apparently, people ignored this and there is no longer any soft grass for the dogs. That's ok though. My puppy (she's 2), loves this dog park. She always gets excited when we're on our way there. It is on the down slope of Green Mountain. If your dog likes to play fetch, I recommend going to the bottom of the hill and throwing the stick/ball/whatever they're chasing up the hill. They tucker out faster. If you are disinclined to walk down the hill and back up, you're lazy. Get off your butt and play with your dog. Dogs like to play and they REALLY like to play with their owners. If you don't want to play with your own dog, I recommend you rehome the poor thing. Too often I see owners sitting there while their dog is trying to engage them in play and the owner couldn't care less. Seriously? Play with your dog. They're companions, not trophies. Saturdays and Sundays there's tons of other dogs to play with. During the weekday it kind of depends on what time you show up. My dog and I usually go earlier in the morning on weekdays (7 or 8am) and there usually aren't other dogs there. Another pro of the park is that there is agility training equipment at the bottom of one of the sections. I have rarely ever had problems with aggression in other dogs at this park. There are several dogs that frequent the park who are aggressive and their owners do not care.One in particular is named Gracie and she is a mutt that has the coloring of a German shepherd or rottweiler. She ALWAYS tries to rip my dog's throat out and the owners couldn't give a shit. My dog is inherently friendly and loves everyone, people and dogs alike. She's trained as a therapy dog and is quite nice. So there's no way it's my dog that's the problem. Whenever I see Gracie there, I go to the other side. There is also a man who has a Australian shepherd mix who isn't socialized properly. This dog will start off playing nicely, but things usually tend to get aggressive pretty quickly, especially if there's a toy involved. The third dog I've ever had a problem with is a black Great Dane who, for some reason, hates my dog. Both dogs get alone with other dogs excellently. When they go to sniff each other, the Great Dane usually ends up attacking my dog. So, out of all the hundreds of dogs my dog has interacted with over the two years that I've been taking her to this park, there have been three dogs that have been problems. That's much better than any other dog park I've ever been to. No matter what dog park you decide to take your dog to, please exercise caution when introducing your dog to new dogs. You can never know how dogs will react to each other. If your dog does get in a fight, please, have you and the other owner pick up the dog's hind legs and pull both dogs away from each other. This prevents YOU from getting bitten by one of the dogs. read more

Here is an update on my review sense reviewing on 12/19/2008. Forsberg Iron Spring Dog Park has changed for the worse sense its opening in August of 2008. The City of Lakewood now operates it and has done a poor job with maintenance but have done on ok job removing the trash that is in the receptacles only. Actual patrons of the park have replaced the broken hinges, fixed the latches, placed rocks and boulders against the fence where runoff eroded 1 foot ruts under the fence, and filled in mud holes. Lakewood tore down the gate that once separated the two sides allowing a person to separate dogs (or humans) who are incompatible. The Dog Park is one HUGE mud hole when the snow melts or rains. The grass went the way of the Dodo bird over the last year and a half but they still water at all hours of the day in the warmer months. Dog fights are a constant issue at this park due to people bringing dogs that should NEVER be off leash let alone be around other dogs. There have been several dogs that required emergency visits to the vet due to vicious attacks. The poop problem has become so bad that I often spend the first 15 or so minutes cleaning up an area for my dog to play in so he isn't covered in poop when running around. I have had multiple experiences where I have watched someone watch their dog go poop and attempt to walk away. I would hand them a poop bag and they would refuse to pick it up, place the bag in their pocket, or just plain ignore me. I really hope nobody ever does a soil test and discover high levels of biohazards and close the park. The congregating humans at the "hole in the fence" is a major problem at this park. They stay in place and converse with other dog owners while ignoring their dog ownership responsibilities, thus the poop problem and dog fights. There have been many dogs that have gotten loose at this park due to people leaving the gates to the sally port open, not latching them all the way, or using the maintenance gate as their personal entrance/exit. One dog that I know of has been hit by a car on Alameda Parkway, requiring surgery. The new problem at the park has been the influx of Kennel Cough and Dog Flu. Dog owners have been bringing sick dogs to the park and spreading a very bad case of Borditella to dogs who are current with their Borditella Vaccination. The personalities of the dog owners are terrible. From people who drop off their dogs and go for a run, to people who will hit your dog with a "Chuck-It" because your dog took their dog's "special" ball. Another problem at this park is the owners that allow their dogs to run from the parking lot to the dog park off leash and from the park back up to the lot. Many dog fights have occurred on the walk down due to these off leash dogs. There was one serious injury caused by charging dogs outside of the fenced area. A man was leaving the park and multiple off leash dogs slammed into his leg, dislocating his knee cap and the man had to be taken out by ambulance and required surgery. Animal control has been informed about this problem, but they have not done anything but post signs about the Lakewood Leash Law along the walk. All in all, this park has become just a place to let your dog off leash, a place people bring their dogs to "wear them out, and let them defecate." The attitudes of the dog owners have hindered the fun of the place. Oh, almost forgot to mention this. I had my car broken into in the main lot. I had nothing in my car to take, but it still cost me a $300 passenger side window. There is glass all over both lots still from the constant break-ins. read more

I went on a very hot and dry day, and it was very hot and dry! bring water! It's pretty big though, with two sides (we kind of had big and small dogs split up) but nothing designated. There are cool obstacle "blocks" for the dogs although my dog was too lame to play with them! Went on a Friday morning and there were only a few other people/dogs there. Will be back again for sure, it would be a nice spot to bring a picnic lunch or dinner. read more
