My mom was transferred to this hospital for life saving heart surgery. I could only speak on this hospital from the perspective of a visiting family member. The staff here are wonderful. The nurses, doctors, even the front desk staff are all on point when it comes to the top notch care provided from this hospital. Never once did I feel like my mom was not priority during her stay. I went to EGH because I was having a hard time swallowing and I was severely dehydrated but they just sent me home with opioids and told me to eat popsicle's. I couldn't eat popsicle's because I couldn't swallow anything not even water. They could have at least gave me a Iv to rehydrate me. read more

My sister, who had survery on 12/26, has been in and out of Elkhart Hospital several times for an issue they caused. Now they are telling her there is nothing they can do to remedy the situation, and maybe she wants to look into another healthcare system. So they know they have no idea what is happening, and they have just been racking up bill after bill, screwing around, giving her things that haven't helped at all. Don't go here. Elkhart general hospital E.R. absolutely ridiculous!!!!! My mom who has been diagnosed with cancer and her oncologist who has an office in the hospital decided she needed to be admitted into the hospital asap.. so we came to the ER around noon today and now here it is 8:20 pm and my mom has not even been back to see an ER dr let alone be admitted to the hospital... There is no excuse for this!!! Let me add she also is on oxygen 24/7 and has now been through 2 full tanks and on tank #3 since being here.. unacceptable!! read more

Slow to respond when it comes to office experience and HR. The care they provide to their patients is wonderful, sometimes others have their own opinions about how they give care to loved ones, but the nurses and CNA's care about their patients. I went in for a kidney infection....possible stone.the doctor was not at all concerned about the level of my pain.he made it clear WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE that no pain meds would be given. That doctor and MOST of the staff at EGG could care less about your health and have no compassion for human life..... They even tried to give me medicine once that I had an allergy band on for.and when I complained......SHE TOLD ME I WAS WELCOMED TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. The nurses on the night shift are disrespectful and make rude comment when they get buzz by a patient. maybe a supervisor should let them know they are there to do a job. not sit on their phone/ just talk to other nurses. its sad that they let people that don't care about other people work here. read more

The check in staff for ER was great. Not so great for the rest of it though. I pulled or tore something in my leg.Alot of pain and couldn't walk at all.I waited 3 hours before they took me back and another hour to see a doctor. After the x-ray they said go see your family doctor, nothing's broke and how would you like to pay your $450.00 co-pay for tonight's services??....$450 for what! YOU DID NOTHING! If I could give a negative review for this place I would. A big fat -5 star review! This place is the absolutely last place I would recommend going if you really need medical assistance or have an emergency. They make you wait 4+ hours and even then if your name is called, they say sorry not you, someone else is before you. So you wait even more. It's a good thing my husband was only running a 102 fever, dizziness and being nauseous. Otherwise, by the time they actually started to treat and diagnose him, if it was a life threatening situation, he would have died before getting medical help. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!! Friday evening I called 911 emergency I felt horrible by the time they came, I could barely speak or move my limbs. Those guys weren't very kind telling me to get up and walk that I could when I was literally going to pass out. Eventually I was helped I remember I started to throw up I was somehow dragged to a gurney I know I didn't walk because I couldn't. I kept blocking in and out of consciousness but I heard what they were saying. When I got to the hospital I was interrogated like a criminal asking questions after questions and I couldn't speak. I was pulled in my chest so much and the worst things is I'm hurting terribly. Someone said they needed to cathorize me, and the handling of my private part was so disgusting I could vomit just thinking of how I was handled my the emergency staff who took care of me. I heard and felt everything but I had neither the ability to speak or move my joints. Someone kept lifting up my hand telling me to hold my hand up I didn't it before when I know that I couldn't and never did move my limbs since they came to my home and took me. I'm not happy at the way I was treated, and I intend to speak to an attorney about me treatment at Elkhart general hospital emergency room. No one should be handled in such a manner, I can imagine how people are treated there from my experience. read more

Nobody likes emergency trips to the ER but life will create these trips from time-to-time. The customer service here is always good and they are better at getting patients in and out than in years past. I am not the recipient of the care but feel as if I am in health care with all the trips I've taken to hospital lately. If you need care, you will get adequate treatment here. read more

I couldn't give a high enough rating! The ER was packed with people and I went in with concerns of a blood clot in my leg at 29 weeks pregnant. They took me in immediately and put me in a private room and the staff took incredible care of me! They kept checking in and making sure I was ok! They also had me hooked up where I could hear the baby's heartbeat in the room while I waited for the ultrasound for my leg. I can't explain how caring and helpful all of the staff were and how they went the extra mile to be so nice to make me feel comfortable. I'll never forget my experience here and I'm thankful for every person who cared for me and made my experience so great! read more

Hurt my back worse than any pain I've ever felt. Have asthma which will make me cough if it flares up. Told check-in station that I was having trouble breathing and could they give me an albuterol treatment with a nebulizer. They said "sorry, we can't do that without the okay of a doctor." WELL THEN GET A DOCTOR AND TELL HIM I CAN'T BREATHE! Apparently they'll just let people who are having breathing issues die in the waiting room here. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars.. very poor service. It's very sad that people that work there don't put much of an effort to the patients, not even because they're getting paid good. My moms arm was very bruised from all the blood drawing they did. I've seen worse.. but not in my family. Elkhart general hospital needs to show their patients better services and attention. I brought my husband in this evening at 6 PM. We were told it would probably only be about a four hour wait. When I mentioned that I was Covid positive, I was told that I could sit in the waiting room with my husband until he was discharged. I sat in the waiting room with him from 630 until almost 1:30 in the morning when I was told that I had to leave. When I tried to explain this is not what I had been told, Keegan the nurse, threaten to get security. I have now been sitting out in the parking lot for an hour and a half and I am totally done with this hospital! Do not come here!! read more

I am disappointed in EGH's ER performance. I had to go there for back pain and a high fever. I'm a very tolerant and nice person. But I my patience was tested. 5 1/2 hour wait to get back into the ER. Once back there had iv's started and saw the DR. Explained the issues. Asked for ibuprofen to help with the pain and some water, because I had nothing to drink in the ER waiting room. Ultimately waited 7 hours to be hydrated. The iv fluids weren't started for 8 hours. 8 hours to get ibuprofen. In fact the first inclination of the Dr was to give me fentanyl! I was like no I just want ibuprofen. Why would the first thing they go to be the most dangerous and addictive drug on the planet? Basically poor organization and service. Many of the people were nice,but I'm going to try to avoid in the future. read more

Would never take my son here again .Elkhart behavioral is based up here so I had no choice..he was having a mental health crisis and clearly the ED dr at the time didnt want to deal with it..right away I was treated like a piece of garbage when I attempted to explain what was happening and that i couldnt take him back home like this..shutdown right away and told I would NOT tell him how the system was going to work and that I WOULD take him home and they probably would let him go even tho he was clearly delusional...WTF!!???.I never proposed to do any such thing so I had words with that... ummm.. dr and left as my son is 20 ...tried to find out if he was still there later and they wouldnt tell me anything.if he was even safe-rude receptionist Kiana!! Dr. Caldwell is awesome. My ongoing problem is finally being taken care of and I have confidence in him that I'm finally on the mend (after subpar treatment at another local hospital). All the staff is attentive and friendly. Even the cleaning lady called me by name. The room is quiet and decorated nicely. read more

My husband had a triple bypass June 28th, and received wonderful care from everyone and every unit, and completed cardiac rehab the end of August. I am disappointed, however, in the billing for his hospital stay. We had not received a bill for our part of the cost, and with everything going on with recovery, I didn't think about calling the hospital. Last week we got a phone call from the billing department, an unfriendly voice, saying we were past due on paying the bill. When I said we hadn't received one, she told me they had sent out several invoices. I asked her to send another one, and it came today, 10/5, with a huge RED STAMP saying "Past Due- your account may be placed with a collection agency... etc.." We have always paid our bills promptly, and feel this approach and her attitude was uncalled for. read more

Went there today because I was bitten by a wild mouse. Was directed to go to an E.R. asap, and this hospital was the closest. This isn't my normal hospital, this was my first time at this one. The staff had taken a long time. In fact, I assume that they were understaffed, by the amount of time spent in the waiting room, waiting to be seen by the doctor. I sat in the waiting room for almost 3 hours before I was called back to be examined. There were some patients waiting in the waiting room before I had gotten there, and by the time I had left the hospital, most were STILL waiting for their turn to be called back and examined. They were also very slow. They were typing patients information at a painfully slow pace, and they'd repeat their questions over and over, repeatedly. Also, you'd think that an E.R. would call back the patients with the most critical condition, first, but not the case at this hospital. I was sitting in the waiting room for hours, with a bite from a wild animal. The chance that I could've had rabies, was high. The longer you wait to get treated for rabies, the less chance you have of living. So my fate was in their hands. And instead of calling me back early, because of how CRITICAL this situation of mine could've been, they made me wait and called back patients that were there for CHECKUPS! My potentially life threatening situation was not their top priority and was not examined as fast as possible. Also, the man on the phone from Urgent Care had told me to go to the E.R. asap, and get rabies vaccinations, so that way it would prevent me from dying because of rabies, but when at the E.R. they had not given me any rabies vaccinations, and instead they had just simply applied antibiotic ointment to the wound and told me to keep an eye on it for a FEW days. Rabies symptoms show within a few days to a few months. So of I were to have them, it'd be too late. So this hospital definitely needs to get their priorities straight, and have better staff, communication, and timing. I won't go back to this hospital unless I absolutely have to. read more

Zero confidence in their ability to care for my father. Went in for a gallbladder and spent an entire week. Poor communication - had to page the Dr on day 6 for a first meeting/update. They are capable, competent BUT DO NOT CARE. Common refrain heard on the 6th floor: "I don't do that. It's ok. But...". You're better off. My husband had knee replacement surgery on July 30th 2019 and the nurse who was with him at in pre-op was not friendly and then it took way longer than the doctor told us for him to get moved from recovery so went to the desk to inquire and they acted as if we were being a pest. He was finally moved to a room and the male nurse was not very friendly either. My husband said the nurse that took over for the male nurse was nice, he did not remember her name. The afternoon nurse on the 5th floor knee replacement area named Jackie was a complete nasty rude person. We were totally shocked at the way she was smarting off and yelled at my husband for asking a question. She yelled didn't you hear me? Well you witch considering my husband is on meds and I'm stressed to the max maybe we missed something!! We have never ever been treated this poorly from anyone in the medical field. I called the hospital to complain and the guy said he would call back but guess what? No call! They also called us the first part of November stating we owned them money and have not sent a bill but have continued to call asking if we want to pay the total balance by credit card yeah sure we have the kind of money just laying around. Elkhart General clearly does not care about their patients but they are all about calling about a bill we didn't receive. My husband was ill earlier in the year and was hospitalized at Goshen General and I can say it is a night and day difference. If you want care and compassion go to Goshen and if you want to be treated like a piece of crap Elkhart is the place for you. read more

With the birth of my first child, they over-medicated me on the epidural and I went unconscious, which resulted in a very unwanted c-section. They even said "whoops that's not supposed to happen!" Very unprofessional. Afterward they treated me like I was some kind of freak. This traumatized me and now I'm in trauma counseling. I live in Phoenix now and I'm glad I will never have to deal with this hospital again. read more

I have had three surgeries at Elkhart General. The staff, from the check in counters to the clinical staff, are exceptional!! They are all focused on the patient's comfort, information retention, and satisfaction with process and outcome. Everyone goes "the extra mile". The surgery facilities are state of the art.
