The room was clean and had a rustic modern feel. When the carpet is beige, you know they have to take care of it consistently. Everything had a plush feel. The shower had a rainfall showerhead and a handheld. There's a scent that emanates throughout the hotel and into your room. It's light and adds to the ambiance. It's also in the sheets and linen too. I guess that adds to one of the negatives I list later in that the HVAC seems to be centrally controlled. There was some very minor debris in the sink that may have been left from wiping of a dirty rag, but that was mostly it. Gym was nice and parking was plentiful and free. What I didn't like: - Mini fridge in the room had a lot of snacks and other drinks that I assume were for sale. I usually pack my own food, so those items took up some space in the fridge - I get cold easily, so I try to adjust the thermostat, but it's centrally controlled, which I've never seen... I'm assuming all of the rooms are regulated in this way... - Breakfast bar- had bare minimal which I really don't mind. The person working the front desk that night, I apparently woke up, and was not welcoming at all. There was no conversation, just "confirm on this screen, and you are in room 2##." I wasn't even directed where to go when given my room key, also, no mention of the complimentary breakfast. As I went up to my room (note, there is no elevator, so you have to bring all your luggage up the stairs yourself) I was welcomed by piles of trash laying in the hallway and scattered on the floor. I didn't know they were doing renovations. The next day, as I got in about 1am, I went to take a nap, and the workers were very loud working on the adjoining rooms. I also noticed, AFTER I woke from my nap, that there was a HUGE pee stain on the comforter on my bed, so I had to go exchange it for a new, fresh one. (which, the new one still had stains on it). I might have been okay with the noise/discomfort, had I been notified either when I booked the room or when I had checked in, but nothing was mentioned. I also said something when I checked out and they said that they "should have put me on the first floor because all the upgrades were already done on the first floor." I would NEVER RECOMMEND the Quality Inn & Suites East Troy to anyone. It was less than a 1 star for me. Please see photos attached of my stay there. Additionally, the heat was off so it was a brisk 53° in the room in late December. We were too tired to walk down the stairs and ask for another room that met our needs so we sat with our coats on, eating and watching TV before some man entered our room, apologized and walked out. There wasn't even a knock. It was such an icky feeling or not being safe in our room so we left for a bit to let our room warm out and decide if we wanted to stay overnight or not. There is no elevator so if you're placed in a room on the second floor you get the luxury of walking the lobby stairs. It wasn't a big deal except for when we wanted to swim so we had to walk through the lobby in our bathing suits. It was more awkward after swimming because there's a sign to leave the towels at the pool and not take them to your room so we had to walk back to our room, still cold/wet and pass through the lobby as other guests were checking in. The hot tub is not working correctly. I wish that was stated online, as it was a selling point for us. As we came and went through the lobby multiple times, nobody asked us how our stay was. I know it's cheap but I thought it would be more welcoming in hopes for more business. Oh well... In the morning we went down for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised by the spread provided. However, the yogurt was gritty like it was frozen and then thawed. The eggs were the kind that come in a bag and heated up (eggbeaters?). Very salty. The orange juice pitcher in the fridge still had the sticker on it from the store (Walmart brand, maybe?) - which worries me that it wasn't washed before being used. I loved the waffle maker that made 4 small waffles, as they were really nice portions! A woman was busy replenishing things and cleaning tables. Nobody was at the front desk when I tried to check out. Rang the bell and no answer so I just tossed my room keys behind the desk and that was that.

The mansion was built in 1856, making it the first mansion in Lake Geneva. The estate has been completely redone but charming details were kept. Along with a mansion where you can book a room, Maxwell also includes beautiful gardens, lounges, outdoor fireplaces, a heated pool, croquet and bocce ball. There is also a separate area in the back with motel rooms. Like I said, I was there for a lil' drink. There's a bar inside the mansion (Apothecary Bar) with all kinds of medical and druggist paraphernalia, with the space being a tribute to Dr. Philip Maxwell. But it's the speakeasy, which is accessible outside in the front of the house, that you'll want to visit. Ask for the password inside the mansion, and they will let you into a dark, below-ground bar. It's all decorated in prohibitionist flyers, and even the bartenders are dressed up in period costumes. It's a really cool and unique bar in Lake Geneva.

After our stay, I emailed the owner and asked her to update the listing with more information so I could give it a better review. She said she would but that was almost two months ago. The review still states that 3 people could stay in that room, which would only be true if one of the people were 4'6" or shorter. Breakfast was not what I'd have expected from a b&b. First, I'm used to being able to sit at a table near other couples but not be forced to be at the same table as we were here. Half a nice grapefruit was a good start. Then some slices of store bought krugel. Fine. But then no eggs. No savory portion. Just straight from the store bought coffee cake to some kind of French toast which seemed mostly just bread and sugar. She asked who eats sausage. I don't but then there was no protein replacement which was fine but not ideal. Also, breakfast isn't served until 9a which seemed quite late to me.

The powdered eggs did not look appealing. I made a waffle, but threw it out after one bite. I ended up with a banana and oatmeal. I am probably in the minority here, but I think it would be better to have fewer breakfast options, but of higher quality. My biggest complaint was that with fees and taxes, the room for one night cost over $300! For a little town like Burlington, and for the quality of the hotel, I think that room rate is outrageous. I don't drink much, but they had a FREE local beer on tap in the lobby at happy hour time. The location is nice in that it feels safe and isn't near a million things but is close to the highway. The rooms were extremely clean and the staff was extremely nice. The pool is small but heated and relaxing. The lobby was a nice place to hang out as well. This was the only Marriott in this general area, but I'm glad it was there for me to stay at!
