    King bed in king suite
    Barb S.

It is right off the highway, very easy to find. First and foremost for those that need to know, the hotel does not have an elevator. Also the front doors are not handicap accessible. They open easy, however if you are in a wheelchair it could be difficult. I brought everything in at once on the luggage cart that is supplied by the hotel and while the doors open easily, it was a bit of an adventure getting in without the door hitting the cart. They do however have 4 nice handicap parking spaces near the walkway up to the main door. The place was VERY clean, cudo's to the cleaning crew. The staff was very friendly. The only thing I would say is when I checked I was not told anything about the pool times or the breakfast times. However the information was in the book in the room. I was asked if I wanted 1st or 2nd floor, I requested 1st floor but asked not to be near the pool. I did not go to the pool, but I asked someone coming from the pool and they said it was real nice. The breakfast is a basic breakfast, scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, waffles, bagels, cream cheese, mini muffins, mini danishes, cereal, yogurt and fruit. There is no microwave in the breakfast room. I am an early riser, I was in the breakfast room around 7:30 and my eggs, some were luke warm, some were cold. So on Sunday I had a warm waffle. The breakfast room is on the small size, there are 4 tables for 4 and 2 tables for 2. The hotel in general was nice, they have 2 covered patio areas by the main door and a small grill off to the side of the patio. Some of the patio furniture needs to be replaced as the chairs are bent and one had the arm broke off. This is definitely abuse on the patrons part as it metal, not the cheap plastic furniture, however there were a couple of plastic chairs out there. I stayed in a king suite and it was very spacious. The bed was comfortable and there is a TV in each room. I just wished the TV in the bedroom had a timer on it. The bedroom was cold, when I opened both set of drapes during the day you can feel the cold air pouring in from the bottom of the windows. Well, the drapes were promptly closed for the entire stay. I like it a bit cool when I am sleeping, but this was cold. The thermostat is in the living room and I actually had to turn it up so I would not be cold while sleeping. I never closed the door between the two rooms as there was no need. The lighting in the bedroom ok but the lights were on the nightstands by the bed and if you are looking for something in your suitcase on the other side of the room, there is no light. A dresser under the TV would have been nice. The couch was firm but comfortable. It is a sleeper sofa, all in all, this suite will sleep 4. The room is big, with a lot of unused space. They have a desk, desk chair, tv, fridge, microwave 1 end table and a small couch in the large room. The TV stand had 3 small drawers, drawer 1 had a blanket, drawer 2 had 1 pillow and you get the bottom drawer for your clothes. Not a lot of room for your things if you have more than 1 or 2 people or if you are staying longer than a weekend. There is also another place to put a suitcase and hang clothes in the living room space. It is behind the bathroom door when the door is open. I would have liked to have a table and 2 chairs in the room for eating. I was in room 114 and I cannot believe it, the room still smells. Probably not as bad as the person said in 2016, but it had an odor. I went to the store and bought some glade and sprayed the room, after a few hours it was smelling again so I sprayed the carpet. That was the only place I could figure out where it was coming from. It worked pretty good for the short time I was there. The carpet does not look dirty, but smells get deep in carpet, it needs a deep cleaning. This was mentioned to the person when I checked out. She took note of it. You seem to be in the middle of nowhere when you get there, but you are about 2 minutes from downtown East Troy, and 6 minutes to HWY 83 near Mukwonago. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from also. All in all, I would stay there again.

    Breakfast

Would like to leave less than one star but unable to. Don't stay here. We stayed a week in August. Upon arrival the toilet was used- just liquid. One flush and it nearly overflowed. Called the desk and was brought a used plunger- for Us to use. No elevator, no housekeeping, not even towel changes. Had to ask the front desk for fresh towels. They were very thin and well used. Breakfast was a joke. Stale cereal, a dozen mini muffins, and hostess type cupcakes. Front door is not handicapped accessible. Staff parked in the up front, prime parking spots , side door lock was broken and latch was taped so as to not catch. Motel six would have been an upgrade compared to this over priced place. Very disappointed.

    Two queen size beds

Two if us with a kid spent a weekend in Quality Inn. Our room 208 had two queen beds and was clean and spacious. Check in was easy and fast (we booked thru Expedia). The moment we unpacked we went to the pool and enjoyed hot tub. Hotel is not from the front page of Architectural Digest, but its updated, clean and comfortable. The staff is very nice. I lost my ring and front desk lady Milka and guy named Ivan checked the room looking for my ring. I cried because the ring I lost is important and they looked for the ring where ever I went during the weekend. We didn't find the ring, but I'm grateful for the help. I'm so surprised to see this place has such a bad reviews. I find this small hotel pretty charming and clean with good, knowledgeable staff. For the price I paid it's excellent. Beds are new and comfy. I liked the sheets. Breakfast has lots of choices. My kid enjoyed making waffles. Nice location too. We had coffee in cool East Troy coffee shop. I will go there again.

The room was clean and had a rustic modern feel. When the carpet is beige, you know they have to take care of it consistently. Everything had a plush feel. The shower had a rainfall showerhead and a handheld. There's a scent that emanates throughout the hotel and into your room. It's light and adds to the ambiance. It's also in the sheets and linen too. I guess that adds to one of the negatives I list later in that the HVAC seems to be centrally controlled. There was some very minor debris in the sink that may have been left from wiping of a dirty rag, but that was mostly it. Gym was nice and parking was plentiful and free. What I didn't like: - Mini fridge in the room had a lot of snacks and other drinks that I assume were for sale. I usually pack my own food, so those items took up some space in the fridge - I get cold easily, so I try to adjust the thermostat, but it's centrally controlled, which I've never seen... I'm assuming all of the rooms are regulated in this way... - Breakfast bar- had bare minimal which I really don't mind. I really wouldn't expect a place like this to serve you breakfast unless it was full service. Would definitely come back

Positives: Decor: the place itself was quaint and very well decorated with pieces from the time. Nature - my favorite part was the beautiful walk though the woods on property just feet from the house. Stunning. Negatives: Bed was under 5 feet long! Since I'm 5'5", it was a terrible night of not sleeping. I couldn't lie on my back as I usually do, because my feet needed another 6-12" of space. Curled on my side could have worked if the mattress didn't sag so much. I stayed in a room that calls this bed a 3/4 bed online. No explanation of what that means. I googled it and found that 3/4 beds are normal length but between a twin and a full. That is not what this bed was. After our stay, I emailed the owner and asked her to update the listing with more information so I could give it a better review. She said she would but that was almost two months ago. The review still states that 3 people could stay in that room, which would only be true if one of the people were 4'6" or shorter. Breakfast was not what I'd have expected from a b&b. First, I'm used to being able to sit at a table near other couples but not be forced to be at the same table as we were here. Half a nice grapefruit was a good start. Then some slices of store bought krugel. Fine. But then no eggs. No savory portion. Just straight from the store bought coffee cake to some kind of French toast which seemed mostly just bread and sugar. She asked who eats sausage. I don't but then there was no protein replacement which was fine but not ideal. Also, breakfast isn't served until 9a which seemed quite late to me.

They greeted us with a complimentary brownie upon arrival. We slept well, much more comfortably than I usually do in hotels or stays away from home. You get a choice of many delicious breakfast items to choose from. They serve all kinds of food including vegan. They have their own veggie garden and use many homegrown veggies and herbs in their dishes. We had a tasty vegan frittata one morning and a tofu scramble the next. Served with vegan sausages, breakfast potatoes, fruit salad and unlimited coffee or tea. Other guests chose bacon, waffles, and eggs, etc. There's a Keurig machine, an ice maker and fresh water available 24/7 as well as a fridge with soft drinks. There is a gorgeous pool there! Unfortunately I forgot my swimsuit so we didn't try it but we will next time for sure. Other guests had a lot of enjoyment there. The grounds are lovely with gardens, seating areas and an outdoor fireplace. There's also a basketball hoop. Not only are the accommodations comfortable and homey, the owners are warm and friendly and we had wonderful conversations with them and fellow guests. We actually spent a couple hours lingering after breakfast because we all enjoyed the conversation so much! We admired their beautiful art on the walls as well. This is clearly more than a B&B for Karen and John, this is a dream come true and a definite passion project. They truly put their heart and soul into this property and it shows and is felt. We will definitely be back and will bring our kids as well. This place is a gem.

Camp Wandawega is a flawlessly re-created 1950′s summer camp. At $250 a night (plus a $60 airbnb…read moreservice fee), you can step back in time. Located in Elkhorn, WI about 90 minutes from where I currently live, on the way there, I drove by the place I used to camp as a kid and by towns I have met my parents in to go antiquing. Where many of the sites on the way were well-known to me, pulling into the camp site was familiar because it was like driving to the set of Moonrise Kingdom. Really, it was like plopping into any Wes Anderson movie. I could very clearly imagine children with their names emblazoned on sleeping bags and wooden tennis rackets being used as swords by campers. When I first arrived, I was early (although the reservation said there was a flexible check-in time). The cleaning lady was arriving in two hours, so I read outside for a while of (what would be) my cabin. The breeze was nice and my book was distracting, but then I started paying attention to a couple who were dipping their feet into the lake at the end of the dock while eating oranges AND drinking orange juice (?!?). That is commitment to Vitamin C, if I ever saw one. Once I moved past my internal giggle at the scurvy-free couple, I glanced at my phone and saw that time had slowed to a crawl. How can a morning at home go so fast and an hour at camp go so slowly? It is like that scene in The Jerk where he says the first day seemed like a week. Camp Wandawega is quite quiet, except for the crazy chipmunks. Sometimes, you can hear the muted, but distinctive click of the flagpole outside. Often, I caught myself looking to see if the crinkle of leaves or branch breaking was a person, but it was almost always a chipmunk (or, not to be out done, squirrels). If the chipmunks weren't there or if flags didn't move, I would have thought I was frozen by some witch's autumn spell. Overall, it seemed like it shouldn't all be there- the details. It felt like it all should have been swept away in a flood or be permanently planted in someone's dream, not surviving as well-preserved as it all is. There is no internet that I could connect to. I didn't need air conditioning or heat, but they are a window cooling unit and a floor heater respectively; nothing major to protect you from the elements. You are here to be (at least, a little) outside. There is a rope swing and open-air showers. There are old bikes and bird houses. The traditional camp colors of burnt red, forest green, and stark white are everywhere. Uneven stairs and rocky hills force your attention even while you walk casually around. The camp was at one point a brothel. Well, it was a speak easy, a distribution center for organized crime, a brothel, a lake resort and a church camp before the current owners bought it and renovated it to its current state. While at Camp Wandawega, what I felt was a constant pang of that very specific camp feeling. The anxiety before arriving your first time. The waiting of ONE MORE YEAR before your next camp experience always seeming like forever. The addiction in the autonomy and the freedom of no parents or siblings. You just being who you are. Someone good at archery. Someone who loves sitting on a dock. Someone who swings in a hammock. Someone who naps. Someone who hikes. While there, I got invited to a fire on the beach by one couple. At another point, a couple taking engagement photos came by to use the canoes. Untroubled people came and went. Some times a fish would come up to ripple the water in their hunger. The lily pads provided a little buffer from the reflection of the sun. There was the constant smell of a fire burning somewhere. What I recommend doing while at Camp Wandawega: -Eat PB&J. You can go into town for food, but why bother? -Sneak iced coffee or coffee grounds and a French press into the communal kitchen. -You don't really have to sneak, but sneaking around seems very camp-y. -Take a nap. Or several. -Read the books at the end of the bed (A Very Modest Cottage and Found, Free & Flea) by Tereasa Surratt. They will provide more information on the renovation of the property and the care of one of the cottages specifically. -Go on a walk around the whole site. You will find tipis (or teepees) and other fun finds. Just bring your hiking boots. -Canoe. (Language side note: canoe is a noun and a verb. English is so quirky.) -Sit with the liquor of your choice by a fire or just sit by the lake for a while. -Go on a bike ride. -Take pictures. You can't really take a bad one. During my time here, the bees were about. Flies and ants, too. Twice, a spider dropped down (seemingly from the sky) onto the book I was reading. Also, I am 99.9% sure there was a raccoon outside of my cabin door one night. Camp Wandawega is a natural and authentic place which makes it an ultimate place to reflect and assess. Yes, you have to constantly check your wine for bugs, but that is part of the magic of being fully present, isn't it?
