Ever wanted to feel like a princess for a day? Then you need an appointment at Sakura day spa…read morepronto. Just had the most beautiful experience there. Booked in for a full body scrub, wrap, mini facial followed by a rain shower and came out feeling like a new woman. Now I know you can get these services in a lot of places, but lots of places give them to you in rooms that are basically the size of tall coffins and hardly relaxing. My treatment room at Sakura on the other hand was actually two rooms and bigger than some hotel rooms I've stayed in (with two other people I might add). To say I was transported and then transformed probably sums it up. And the whole thing was made even better by the caring nature of the lady who looked after me. Can't wait to come back.

I was given a gift voucher by my husband that was worth around $400 for a 4 hour spa package. On my first session, Due to limited parking on Vernon terrace or surrounding streets I was 6 mins late, so upon arrival instead of being welcomed I was told by the therapist that next time they would have to take the time off my session as she has back to back appointments today. During my massage she kept talking and asking me where I was from because I didn't look Australian and had different skin and features. Then she asked me really irrelevant questions such as how long I have travelled to get there. On my 2nd session the owner was at reception and I was 5 minutes late again due to the parking issue. As I entered she asked me if I had been vaccinated for Covid and if not why not. Then she said that her staff had been vaccinated and that soon she is going to introduce a policy at her day spa to reject people entry who have not been vaccinated. I said vaccinations aren't mandatory yet by the government so she should stop asking intrusive questions. Then she told me to fill out a form with 4 really intrusive questions about vaccinations: have you been vaccinated? Are you on a waiting list for a vaccination? Which one, Pfizer or AstraZeneca? Something along those lines. She then said, you're late again and this time we will have to take the time off your massage but instead of taking me straight in she put me in a room to have tea for 10 mins taking another 10 mins off my massage. She said sorry but my staff has back to back appointments again. The whole time I was there I only saw this one staff she had booked up back to back 2 weeks in a row. I didn't turn up for my 3rd session as I felt super anxious going there because I didn't know what to expect this time. Halfway through this treatment I started coughing with a tickle in my throat because my sinuses were playing up which usually happens due to cheap essential oils in some cosmetic products. So the therapist left me for about 10 minutes and entered with a mask (which I realised she wasn't wearing the whole hour prior to my cough). Vaccines don't exclude you from wearing a mask, she should have been wearing one to begin with so that was another 10 mins taken off my session. Sadly I found this experience far from relaxing and pampering. The whole time I was there I felt resentful, tense and ripped off. In addition, the sheets and towel felt oily and unhygienic and the products used in my treatment were cheap. Absolute Waste of money. Apologies to my husband who had spent a while researching the best gift to get me for Mother's Day. This place is bringing down the vibes in a classy end of town. Spend your money on another day spa if you're looking to get pampered in a relaxing environment and not be judged.

As a woman, finding a good skin care regime is like searching for a needle in a haystack. There is…read moreso much available on the market that it becomes confusing as to what you actually need. I walked past Simplicité a few days ago and went in out of curiosity, just to see what made them different to every other skin care range. Let me tell you, there is LOTS that is different. David, one of the creators of the line, was in the store when I walked in. He was immediately likable and informative and clearly SO passionate about his products without teetering into annoying-sales-person territory. It's obvious that he is genuinely flabbergasted by what some people put on to their skin, and given the fact that he was previously a Naturopath and has extensive experience in clinical skin nutrients research, I trust that he knows his stuff! He knew every ingredient of every product and their benefits. The products are all natural in every sense, and I left the store convinced that this has got to be the legitimate skin care pitch I have heard. I also left with a few generous sized testers to try at home, and so far the results have been great. If you are passionate about healthy skin without applying any horrible chemicals to your face, then I highly suggest you take a trip to Simplicité. The prices are on par with the designer skin care you would buy in a department store, but is tried, tested and made locally, so why not support it and give your skin a helping hand at the same time.

It's a tumultuous relationship and one wrong move can see you passively aggressively ignoring your former beautician and starting a fresh with someone new. I decided to put my faith in In Therapy in Brisbane's Red Hill in the hope they'd restore my trust and give me the neat and tidy brows I so longed for after a rather disastrous brow wax some two months ago. With the growing out finally done it was time to put myself back on the market, so to speak. Their service menu claimed they "specialise in fabulous brows" and I eagerly set off to see just how fabulous my brows would be. I'm greeted by my technician and ushered into a therapy room and it's not unlike any other brow waxing experience of the past 12 or more years. Before long my technician has spent some 20 minutes working her magic on my brows and when I see them in the small hand mirror she provides to me I am proud to say, "Why yes, don't you two look fabulous." Back in their trim and tidy shape I happily pay $24 for the experience. Of course, brows isn't the only treatment In Therapy offers. They are a full-service beauty salon offering massage, facials, spray tan, mani and pedis. Perhaps the best thing that my sensitive skin praised them for was their use of organic strawberry wax. There was no extremely redden skin afterwards or strange looks from onlookers as I walked back to the office. With this being my second visit to In Therapy (the previous for a file and polish of the ol' fingernails) I can say that each time I walk in I feel instantly calm and like I'm away from the hustle of city life. I can't wait to go back and try more from their service menu. The lesson: sometimes it is good to branch out, try something new. Who knows what might happen? I think I've just found a brow spot to go steady with....

I found a fantastic deal on Its A Deal (dot com) which included a full body massage, body wrap, facial, head massage and body scrub. Upon arrival I realised that the salon was in an old Queenslander home, possibly the house of the owner. I walked in and was happily surprised that it looks very professional inside. You are asked to take your shoes off and relax. I was more than happy to do so. Around the waiting area were random ribbons and plastic flower buds stuck to the wall. Looked a bit cheesy, but I didn't mind. The staff are wonderful and so friendly. The lady who gave me the massage treatment was a wonderful person. I almost feel a bit guilty with this review, but I have to be honest... The massage was not the best it lacked technique. The body scrub was mediocre- I was actually surprised that was it. The facial lasted only a few minutes, nice and soft but didn't live up to a good standard. The wrap, yeah- I wasn't even sure that was it. I was due to go in at 4:30pm, I wasn't worked on until 4:45pm. The treatment ended at 5:50pm. So it was almost like having a one hour treatment as opposed to the one and half hour I expected. Although I was given a $50 voucher towards my next treatment, I'm not in a hurry to book the next one with them- unfortunately.

I'm reiterating what Jen said in her review, basically…read more I accidentally bought two deal vouchers for My Miracle Touch. Despite having a somewhat altogether awkward time at my first session a few months ago, I went back for the second one this evening - second chances, value for money, time for improvement, yada yada yada. Sadly, nothing had changed. Walking up the front stairs of what feels like a regular ol' house for a massage just feels exceptionally dodgy. If only they'd put some sort of semi-professional looking sign on their front fence, or something. Anything. I can confirm that the rest of the house is a residence, because when I asked to use the bathroom, I had to be escorted through the living area, kitchen and dining room to get there. Yet more discomfort! As Jen has said, the service itself is brief and subpar. When the "mask" was applied, it felt like it had been diluted too much, because it poured off my face and through my hair. On the drive home, I was still rubbing bits of the mask off my face. It was a dark (mud?) mask, so it wasn't particularly cool to have it still all through my hair and not properly cleaned off my face. Really glad I went through the Maccas drive-through on the way home. I'm with Jen; I won't be making the mistake of purchasing another voucher for My Miracle Touch. I still see vouchers on daily deals sites all the time, so I assume it's the main source of customer flow. Good luck to them, because they're nice people, but unfortunately the awkward and unprofessional experience outweighs the nice manner.

Whilst on the hunt for somewhere that fits the above criteria, a friend recommended me to Aqua Boutique Beauty Salon and I made an appointment stat! When it comes to waxing, I think it's only fair that you walk into the salon with a certain level of skepticism. I've been in situations where the "therapist" has left me in tears and feeling a bit sad and sorry for myself. I'm happy to say that my experience at Aqua was quite the opposite. I was looked after by Sue-Ellen who is also the owner of Aqua. With 18 years experience behind her it was obvious she could wax someone with her eyes closed. She was gentle and quick, and by far the best waxing job I've had. The salon itself is beautiful and cosy, not an intimidating porcelain monstrosity that makes you feel as though you're in a doctors surgery. The menu is extensive and there's a section specifically for men, so if you have a man-friend who needs a bit of a pampering then you now know where to send him! Aqua is fantastic, local and really well priced considering the high level of service. I'll be visiting again!
