I wanted to leave a review here about a recent experience I had at Elliotte's. I've been taking my Tibetan Terrier, Rory, to get groomed here every six weeks since July. They have always been great and offer the best price I have ever seen from a groomer. They are also consistent and listened to exactly what I needed every time. Last week while Rory was being groomed, Elliotte's gave me a call to say that Rory had bitten his groomer and would not be allowed back. Everyone is fine, thank God. Needless to say, I was mortified when I realized that I had forgotten to give him his anxiety meds, which led to this event. But the team at Elliotte's was very kind to me despite my dog's aggression. I understand their no-tolerance policy for aggression (you have to keep your staff safe!) and I was impressed with the way they handled the situation with professionalism and empathy. Anyway, I highly recommend Elliotte's even though I can't go back there. Great price, great service, kind staff. read more

I have a very temperamental diva cat who is fat and needs to have a Brazilian cut on her back side and Elliotte gets it done every time. Rude, poor scheduling, and treatment of dogs! Let me being with, I have been a customer since 12/21 originally taking our corgi for bath and trim. She went there on about 3-4 visits and there were two scheduling issues. Now fast forward to 04/22 when we took our puppy for her first puppy grooming. The woman (same as last time) came out to rudely inform me that she was scheduled only for a bath. I replied, "James made the appointment while I was standing in from of him". She mumbled something and walked away. James came out of the back and I told him the same thing. His answer was, "I will see if (name) can fit her in". He didn't apologize, was rude and aggressive in his manner. I started to get upset and he once again said the same thing. I started to say something, when he said, "I'm not arguing with you". With tears in my eyes, I took my dog and proceeded to leave. Before I could even get out the door, he had starting talking ignorantly about me. They can pick and choose whoever's dog they want because so many people have dogs which also allows them to treat people and dogs any way they choose. I am posting this because I don't want any first time dogs (especially extensively grooming needs) to go there and their pet and themselves be mistreated. read more

If you're a pet parent, you probably know that the pandemic hit the grooming industry hard and a lot of groomers left creating a shortage of groomers, and good groomers in particular. In 2021, I adopted a 10yr old mini-poodle, Sayla, and she came to me with a lot of trauma & some behavioral issues which made grooming visits extremely challenging. We went through 5 groomers (3 left the industry, 2 were NOT a good fit via Petsmart) and after calling everyone in the area and learning they were all overbooked, we finally found our home here at Elliott's Pet Spa in 2022. (Elliott's was also full because they are that GOOD, but they compassionately made a spot for Sayla as her age and heart murmur means having a shorter coat in summer especially is critical so she doesn't overheat and have a heart attack.) Now, I don't know Sayla's full history, but she does NOT like being groomed and can be very growly w bared teeth (aka scary when she wants to be, and yes I've been working on training with her). That said, we have been oh so lucky to have Jenna at Elliott's take us on and become our permanent groomer. Jenna is one of those wonderful humans you meet and instantly know how much she loves animals. She's like Dr. Dolittle and the dog-whisperer all in one. And you get the sense that this isn't just a job for her, this is a passion. Jenna's care, compassion, and ability to intuit what a dog needs, or where a dog's limits are, is unparalleled. Jenna has always greeted Sayla with warmth and love, and has even given her a nickname (Say-Say) that Sayla adores and we've started using at home. We've gone from Sayla needing to be medicated during grooming sessions and fighting being in the kennel (trauma from shelter), to Sayla being happy to see Jenna, and communicated her limits which Jenna listens to and doesn't push. But Jenna also gets the job done really really well, both from a hygienic standpoint (butt, feet, face) and also from a style standpoint (coolest Mohawk around) and we are SO grateful!! :) Elliott's Pet Spa feels like walking into Cheers, where everyone knows your name, all the staff are friendly and good at what they do and care about the pets they take care of. I've recommended IRL friends who have experienced the same wonderful service here. If you are shopping for a groomer, definitely recommend this place. And if you get a spot on Jenna's schedule, consider yourself the luckiest pet parent out there! Just don't take our spot ;) Also, as a friendly reminder -- grooming is NOT an easy job, they deal with a LOT from our fur babies (even though we want to pretend our doggos are perfect, they're not always) and theses groomers do it with grace and skill. Had the best experience at this groomer. And my hunt for a good groomer has not been easy!! Finding a groomer who is nice, experienced, safety and health conscious, and trustworthy is not easy. My dog received a great hair cut in a very reasonable time frame (was not there for 8 hours!!) and the owner was super friendly, wanting to hear about what looks good, what cut I'm going for, etc. They also clean teeth- which is a huge pro for me. I just relocated here to Durham and my little chihuahuas needed their nails cut. I am very picky about dog salons as they are my babies. I called the day before to ask if I could bring them in and stay while they were getting their nails cut. The gentleman I spoke to was very kind and told me I could bring them in between 12-3 the next day. My pups were a little scared at first. They did such a great job making them feel safe by talking to them while they cut their nails. The salon is very clean and the staff are amazingly friendly. I could not believe that Cheryl W would post such a negative review. I have been taking our cat to Elliotte and James since 2013. I noticed in your review that even though you claim a couple of times that they mistreated your animals, but you never specify HOW they mistreated them. I am so sorry you felt as if you were mistreated, but I don't think you should make false claims. Every story has two sides......I have watched them grow their business since they were in their other location. I took Fitz, my long-haired cat, to Elliotte and James after struggling to groom him myself and having several very negative encounters with other groomers. I've generally found that many groomers do not like working with cats and quickly give up on animals who become freaked out during the grooming process. Elliotte, on the other hand, used to show cats professionally and clearly knew a great deal about different breeds and how to care for them. Fitz looked ridiculous when I brought him in had a small cut from our own failed grooming attempt. Elliott was not concerned and took care to explain how we would handle the cut during the grooming process. Afterwards, Fitz looked totally adorable and seemed much happier than I've ever seen him after a grooming. Elliotte was also kind enough to give me tips on how to better care for Fitz at home. I have found a groomer for life! ALSO: there is an incredible French bakery around the corner from the salon. I highly recommend that you treat yourself after you treat your pet. :) read more

Expect to wait 5 hours for an 11 pound toy cockapoo. Way overpriced and cuts so bad you have to fix them at home. I would never go back there again! The cut was so bad I told the groomer after looking at my dogs face (supposed to be teddybear cut) that I didnt want her to have a Van Dyke style beard and to round the chin. She whined to her manager that I called her a "dyke". Pathetic. Of course the manager didnt find out the whole story - of course not, why bother hearing all sides when you can easily jump to a conclusion of stereotyping. Do not take your cat here. I made an appointment for a de-matting and when I took my cat in they said it would be 4 to 5 hours. Then I got a call 30 minutes later saying they did not have time to shave the matts out because apparently they had only booked him for a 15 minute slot even though they were planning on holding the cat there for FIVE HOURS all the while with other dogs and cats. They clearly overbooked and refused to spot shave and rather wanted to charge me for a full cut even though i repeatedly told the groomer only a spot shave/ de-matting when I booked and at the time I brought him in. They could not explain nor did they apologize for their mistake. This was the second time I took my cat in and the first time I requested only a spot shave and instead they shaved his entire body. He was shaking for weeks after. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

I've been taking my schnoodle here since 2012. She is generally scared of everything, even when I try to brush her hair. They have been able to handle her gently here. I've taken her with matted hair and no one ever made any derogatory remark. I've never felt judged by any staff member on how I maintain my pet. The cash or check is a bit inconvenient, but, every transaction has been entered into the register. To reviewer "Durham L.", I supposed every store who takes cash is evading taxes??? I hope you find some of that inner peace you seek soon. Personally, I would go after you for defamation if you said that about me or my business. read more
