If you have kids (elementary through high school) and live in or near Evanston, this is definitely a program you should check out. I think they do 4-5 shows a year now (2 in the fall/winter, 2 in the spring and 1 in the summer). Anyone can audition, and scholarships are available. Even if your child isn't interested in acting, they can be on crew. And if you don't have kids, their plays are still worth seeing. As I overheard someone say last night: "This is the best children's theater I have ever seen." Last weekend was This Is Just To Say, and I was moved by the performances. It allows you to connect to actor and really be in the moment with them. Tim takes from his real experiences working in Michigan at ford motor company and brings them and over 30 different characters to life. They are both real and really funny. I would recommend this show and this theater to anyone who can make it up to rogers park. Hit it up and you won't be disappointed!! My grandpa joined Park Falls Masonic Lodge in 1952 and became a 33rd degree mason. Since then, my…read moregrandparents, mom, sister, and I have all been members of Masonic appendant organizations for adults and youth, so these groups hold a special place in my heart. This is a grand building in Jefferson Park! It was established in 1912. It would have been so interesting to see it in its heyday, but there are still several Masonic organizations that meet here. There's a two-story staircase outside but I don't think that is in use any longer, generally speaking. Whilst the Masonic bodies use this space for their meetings and events, I believe it is also available for rent by outside groups (as is common with Masonic temples). I've come here a few times for meetings of Betsey Ross Chapter and considered taking a dual membership, but at the time it was hard for me to commit especially since I had a commute that made meeting nights difficult. But it was nice to visit, and I enjoyed pro-temming once or twice. Parking is at a premium depending upon when or why you're here. There are a few spots at the building but to be honest I'm not sure that the parking lot belongs to the Temple, because when the temple was built it was next door to homes on both sides, so I think it's possible that the parking in fact belongs to the Secretary of State's office. Luckily, events that take place at the Masonic Temple don't tend to overlap too much with the SoS hours. There is some street parking nearby, and I'm not sure what the relationship is with the bank across the street but I think that parking is only for the bank/Gale Street Inn. But Jeff Park (the actual park) is about a block away so there's parking along the street there too. After the pandemic, where people were so isolated and whatnot, I think there remains a place for organizations like the Masons, Eastern Star, Job's Daughters, Elks, etc. It would be nice to see these organizations grow, and change, and experience a resurgence.

Like most professional event organizers, Star Events has the connections and experience to help…read morestruggling volunteer-based organizations put on major events; they understand the industry and give the sense that, despite the chaos that ensues with any event behind the scenes, they have you covered. Unfortunately, Star Events has too many internal issues to list here; mainly, business "leaders" John and Michelle have a tendency to hire a mouthpiece (typically named Jessie) to serve as their "everything is fine" smokescreen while they figure out ways to tighten their grip on community events. This "Jessie" role turns over frequently, sometimes resorting to another, without this namesake, who is equally ineffective. The harsh truth is that events are unruly, and no matter the money you've paid an organizer, they never really have control. So, the management process becomes one of seeking power and glory; enter John and Michelle (this is when they normally get involved in the process) because their personal self-interest is Star Events priority. If you are a community-based organization seeking to improve your relationship with your community through your event, do not hire Star Events; your proceeds are going to interests outside your community with no vision from these "leaders" on how to make it a community-sustained event that grows engagement and philanthropy. If you are seeking relief from the stress of event planning, do not hire Star Events; your worries compound when they cut off contact because of internal turnover or make false promises based on "20,000 years of combined experience." Lastly, if you are seeking a good strategic partner, do not hire Star Events; they only want to use your event to take ownership of it and all the events in your community so the proceeds can all go to--you guessed it--John and Michelle. If you DO hire Star Events even after this warning, I wish you luck because you are in for the ride of your event-planning life!

The Evanston American Legion truly a hidden gem! You may already know that the Legion's Members…read more& their friends dedicate themselves to helping veterans and their families through fundraising and volunteering. What many don't know is that post 42 is also a place to grab a drink, meet new friends, and watch the game or attend events such as their wonderful Bluegrass music concerts. You get to feel good about hanging out with a down to earth, welcoming crowd while helping a good cause. There is no cozier or more economical place to grab a draft beer, a glass of wine or a well drink. And you might be surprised to know that while it is exclusively for members and their guests, you need not have served in the military to support the post. You can also join, for instance, if you are the son or grandson of an eligible veteran. This gives you access to other legions around the country (And there are some wonderful ones like the legion in South Haven Michigan overlooking the harbor.) Or you can be a local supporter for $20 a year. For that, you get a discount on the already reasonable prices. It's the kind of place where you could buy a round of drinks for the whole bar for less than a few beers downtown. And don't be surprised if someone you don't even know buys a round for you. It's that kind of a place. There's an event room as well, great for celebrations and meetings. The legion holds fundraising events like the annual Pancake Breakfast (a fund raiser for our local Boy Scouts.) And there's the Spaghetti Dinner supporting the Lovell Legends ( a local group of disabled vet group that competes with disabled vets rom around the country in multiple sporting events) And it's a family friendly place. My daughters love to come along to watch the game and have a kiddie cocktail or Pizza. They offer Pizza, but since it's a private club, not a bar or restaurant, nobody fusses if you pick-up your favorite take out and grab a board-game to laze away the afternoon among friends. Don't be suprised if a friendly German Shepherd is occasionally seated next to his owner, also watching the game.

The staff that works here are amazing…read more I was here for a reception and the quality and work ethic of every employee is exceptional This review is limited but based on my experiences this place is top notch. I was working in my position as security for a dignitary and couldn't enjoy the way a normal patron would. But like I said , every employee from the valet to the bartenders and servers and everyone else are top notch hardworking awesome souls. Always enjoy going here Keep up the great work guys
