Truth be told the first time I heard someone say defund the police I thought they were crazy. Today…read moreI couldn't agree more. Example 1: Friday the 15th of March 2024 at around 10:50 I had to pull over on the side of the side of the Rosemont Village Building because my tire had popped pretty badly. I called AAA with 2% on my phone battery and they never came. I called my dad also and it took him about an hour and a half maybe two to get there from where we live. I waited outside my car, hazards on, visibly flat tire, with a dead phone for my dad. In that time, I watched countless police officers go in and out. I watched them trade weapons from the artillery in their trunks including automatic rifles, pistols, and tasters. I watched them get dressed up in head-to-toe camo and bullet proof vests as if readying for war. Not once in the two hours I sat outside their office did a single officer that looked my way asked if I needed assistance when all I needed was help putting on a spare tire. When my dad did come to help me, they watched him work alone. Never once seeming inclined to help the public they "serve." Example 2: Two weeks ago, on my way home from work at around 1:30 I was taking 294 from O'Hare back towards Downers Grove. I got stuck behind an "oversized load" labeled truck going around 30MPH in a 65. I got into the neighboring lane to pass and began to accelerate when a car quickly pulled out in front of me. I had to aggressively slam on my breaks to not hit them. Again, I tried to pass and again they blocked me this time flashing lights from an undercover police car and quickly turning them off. I followed the car for about a mile unsure how to procced. After an uneventful mile I again tried to pass the truck, this time going TWO lanes to my left from the right lane. The cop then followed and turned his lights on to pull me over. When stopped he claimed I was pulled over for improper lane use telling me "I can't slide all the way to the left to cut back to the right. I know what you're doing, not on my watch" When I had only moved two lanes in a four to five lane section of highway, all the while staying within the permitters of the speed limit. I cannot believe that would hold up as improper lane use. This officer was pulling me over for intentions he guessed I had, that I'm not sure are even a crime. I don't remember learning in drivers ed that it's "improper" to pass oversized trucks on the highway that are going at least 20 under the speed limit. Having no actual reason to pull me over he let me go. Example 3: I had a domestic situation in my home a few months back when a tenant of my home (I'm a tenant not an owner as well) had the police arrive looking for him. Displeased with how I handled the news (I told his dad) he went into my living space broke parts of the chandelier off and flipped a table across the room and threw some of my things around while I was gone. I texted about the situation saying, "Did you really destroy and vandalize private property out of anger that you were caught destroying and vandalizing public property?" to which a picture of my cat was sent back with a gun pointed to his head. I called the police back to the house fully intending to press charges. BUT was surprised to learn there is no charge to be pressed. They can't help me until he actually shoots the cat. Because at their core police are here to respond to crime NOT prevent it. It is for these reasons, of my own experience, I fully support defunding the police and redirecting funds to actual social services with de-escalation training that can work to prevent crime. Not just a bunch of cops on a power-trips who do nothing for the betterment/help of the public. This is not to say I don't think there should be a better system to REPLACE police, but how would more police funding prevent crime when police themselves are OPENLY not there to stop crime but to WAIT for it?

Let's talk about vehicle stickers…read more I was not aware of this phenomenon until I moved to Illinois. I was not aware that many suburbs had them until I moved to Wood Dale. THOSE stickers are actual stickers. They are an enormous pain to get off. It took me over an hour to scrape, peel, razor and spray my previous two off. So enter Lombard. You know what Lombard's vehicle stickers are? Vinyl cling. No adhesive, no mess. BRILLIANT. I love it. It's such a small thing, and yet, I am so grateful. For I know as long as we live in Lombard, I will not have to peel and scrape endless stickers off my windshield each year. (Oh, and the police and public works departments are pretty helpful, as previously noted. They listen to my suggestions. They take my stolen GPS report without calling me an idiot. They CALL me to explain why there's no crosswalk at Highland and Majestic. Rock and roll.)

Please explain to me why it is now 7/17 and the storm debris is STILL on every street? I've driven through Elmhurst and Villa Park and they are at least making progress. But you? Nooooo. Also, remember that blurb in my original review about the oversight on my part in paying my sewer bill? Did you have to retaliate with oversight on YOUR part in closing the file on that as PAID? The mortgage company was not amused when it came time to re-finance. Neither was I.

The wife and I had done some wrong doings (first and last time) she heard my story, chose to believe we'd never do it again and really helped us out, we figured we'd leave this review and hopefully do the same for her. If there were more people like this in the world it'd be a better place, forgiveness is key and she has what it takes to make great changes! Melrose Park PD give this woman a raise and put her on top! Thank you kind woman my family appreciates you and promise we won't put your goodwill to shame

My car, in spite of having new tires and brakes, slid about two feet over the white line at an intersection because of the village's failure to adequately de-ice the streets. They sent me a $100 ticket for "disobeying a traffic control device." I contested it and implored them to review the footage, decision upheld. I mentioned it to my neighbors who said their red light program is unforgiving without exception. My husband and I have resolved to no longer do any of our shopping in Melrose Park as my neighbors here in Oak Park have. If you need revenue for your city, invest in it and make it a place anyone would want to work or live. A short-sighted red light program is only hurting you on the back end because you'll lose far more than that $100 when my family alone stops spending money there.

Officer Mathew took statements from both parties, but failed to accurately record my statement, even though he had body cam footage to review. (the bad). My car was not drivable, so he offered to take me home (the good). Upon receiving a copy of the police report I called Officer Mathew to ask for an amendment. (Don't count on them to return your calls, keep pestering them). He eventually agreed to a meeting, and we reviewed the body cam footage together. The footage clearly contradicted what was in the police report. He admitted that, but refused my request to put the corrected statement into an amendment (the Ugly).

Hundreds, if not thousands of drivers are suffering and it may lead to fatal accident. I was hoping that situation will be addressed and resolved, but there is no change. So, I felt compelled to call non emergency number of OB PD, asking to talk to a traffic division supervisor or ultimately any police officer related to street patrol. I have learned that in XXI century there is no police officer at OB PD who talks on the phone with concern citizens. Operator 289 informed me, that I have to come in person to the station or call for service and report and meet with cop at that intersection at the same time. Looks like I have to take a half day off work to address my concerns or call for service on my way to work..... On their website in between of many other glorious and empty declarations says "dedicated to community" and "regional leader" - they might be, but only on their own terms.

On my first day, they did not have Library Parking decals available. So I went to the Police Station to dispute the ticket. The Officer apologized and tore the ticket up right in front of me. I visit there quite often since that day, as they have a Food Pantry. I learned from a person who came with her four children to get food for their children, that the most hated donations are mac-n-cheese, cans of beans and soup.
