I've been shopping at Elmora Farmer's Market for weeks not, and I'm still rather thunderstruck by it. Quite simply, until now there has not been a market in walking distance of my apartment where I could get fresh meat, fresh fish, fresh vegetables along with canned goods, frozen goods (and the list goes on) in one place at reasonable prices. They even carry Boar's Head deli meats and cheeses (my favorite brand). Sure there's a Shop Rite and Pathmark nearby, but both their produce and meat sections lack a bit compared to this market, and that surprises me quite a bit! Built in the spot that was once "Cost Cutters", this store is quite large, not quite supermarket size, but big enough that you won't necessarily miss going down aisle after aisle. It's also in the same strip mall as many other shops including Dollar General, Subways, Sarku, 7-11, Dunkin Donuts, a pharmacy and a nail salon. You can definitely get a LOT done in one visit to this market! The shop does lose some points for not having the most extensive baked goods section (it's good, but Shop Rite has them beat) and now and then the cashiers seem a bit lost, but that's rare. I'm still a regular customer and really enjoy shopping here! read more

I am absolutely disgusted by the treatment I received at Elmora Farmers Market. Over the years, I have spent thousands of dollars at this market. I love exotic fruits, especially rambutans, and would regularly spend $100 or more on them at a time to the point where the cashiers would explicitly check if the high price was okay, and I would always say "of course." Despite being such a loyal customer, on July 9th at 7:45 PM, I was profiled and followed closely around the store by an Asian manager who says him name is Billy acting like I was going to steal, simply because I brought my own shopping bags. The manager aggressively and falsely claimed the store closed at 7:45 PM. When I pointed out that online says 8 PM, he snapped at me. I checked out respectfully before 7:50 PM, only for him to point out a sign saying they close at 7:50 PM. Why hassle me at 7:45 PM if you close at 7:50 PM? Trying to resolve this constructively, I called the store multiple times over the next week to speak with one of the owners. Instead of reaching the owner, I was transferred to the manager of the meat department, who was incredibly hostile, disgusting, and nasty. When I asked for his name so I knew who I was speaking with before sharing my complaint, he aggressively refused, told me he didn't have to tell me who he was, and demanded I "hurry up" and tell him what I wanted. Throughout this call, I remained completely polite and calm, but the disrespect from his end was very loud. I was honestly shocked to learn I was speaking to someone in a managerial position because his level of immaturity was stunningly low. The management here has zero maturity or customer service skills. This store has a toxic pattern of profiling paying customers, especially when they are Black. I've seen other reviewers mention this exact same concern on public forums, yet the management allows this behavior to continue unchallenged. I am a financially secure customer who routinely bought high-ticket items here, but I will officially never spend another dime at this hostile establishment. They have permanently lost my business. read more

One of my favorite grocery stores. Has a wonderful seafood and butcher department with very helpful staff. Produce selection is amazing as well. I love being able to visually see the seasons change with the produce. The prices aren't too unreasonable. Also they have a lovely selection of flowers. Pretty good prices on produce. They have Portuguese bread rolls 4/$1 great deal. Also sometimes have corn tortilla for $1 per pack. Their other products are really expensive though! I always go here before ship rite which is down the street. read more

Yesss!!!!! Finally, a small grocery store with Fresh meats, seafood, and produce right around the corner from me. Any city dweller without a vehicle understands that obstacles that we face when braving the grocery stores. From the rolling carts breaking down to a sudden rain storm we have dealt with it all. So I am sure that I speak for more than just myself when I say going to the grocery store really stinks! I have been dreaming about a small store that I can visit daily or every other and purchase what I need to create my next splendid few meals. It's cold when you first walk in so bring a sweater even if it is the summer time. You walk in and stay to your right. Start on then end by the lettuces and other edible shrub. Notice those great prices? That's how you baby your dolla dolla. OK so you look to the left and you will notice the almost hybrid magnificent berry selection (no cherries but hey, we're not there yet). As you travel up the aisle the "fishy" smell intensifies... low and behold fresh EVERYTHING. Talkin about salmon, shrimp, shark ssstop it! The butcher is right to your left now. Boars Head all day! And when I pay 5.99 a lb for deluxe ham I know I've won. Moving on... Braciole, shell steaks, FRESH GROUND BEEF (for all you Taco lovers), and some of the nicest looking pork chops I have ever laid my hungry eyes on. I automatically talk to the butcher and the cold cut slicer as if we have been friends forever. I want them to know I am here to stay. I want meatballs for dinner. I don't see a 3 meat mix. So I cross my fingers and say to the butcher, "ohh man, I don't see your meatballl mix". He replied, "we don't usually package anything other than ground beef". Before I could even change my face he looked up and to the left and raised one eyebrow saving the day with, "I don't have any veal but I would be happy to ground you some fresh pork in with some of the fresh beef"? An instant compromise and the beginning of what I can only predict to be a life long friendship. And by the way, my meatballs were official that night! You can get some of the biggest potatoes in the land for around .60 a lb so for a "meat and potatoes" kind of girl it really doesn't get any better. I will for as long as I live in Elizabeth support local independent businesses. Having this store in my neighborhood is clutch. Beware of some of the general grocery prices however (ie cereal, butter, and mayo). High prices on these items are forgiven and replaced by neighboring stores product prices.. You might want to stop next door at the Dollar General for those things =) This is a great little complex. There is tons of parking and a bunch of little stores and eateries you could spend a couple hour having some fun in. read more

This review is about your customer service. Been coming to the market for years. Never had a problem. I had a small order in my basket to ring up. The girl ringing my order went fast and appeared to be over charging me. I asked her to stop so I could count the items I had to make sure I wasn't overcharged. She immediately had a attitude told me to wait for my receipt to dispute anything before I even paid. I only had 10 items so it would only take a couple seconds to count. Her attitude sucked. I told her her attitude was not good and she rolled her eyes and dismissed me. The store is wonderful but one worker can change an experience and make you not want to go back. I called back to speak to the manager but he or she was on lunch. I will call back. read more

Thank you Marysol (of The Tan Loft) for recommending this place! It's in the plaza with the stand alone Dunkin Donuts. For a farmers market this place is HUGE! A no frills kind of place. I would say it's more like a small grocery store with a full service fish market, meat counter, dairy goods and fresh bread. They had all all kinds of fruits and veggies at good prices everything looked fresh and plentiful. About 3 isles of groceries with a pretty impressive Hispanic food section. The place was busy, checkout moved quickly with about 4 - 5 cashiers. I would have come here sooner - I pass by it all the time! read more

I've been a good and loyal customer more than 6 years, but today I bought a small container of watermelon that was very old an expired with bad test and sore and I feel a pain in my stomach. The problem is in the top of the container the product from 07/08/2019 and the expiration date is 07/13/2019, but the watermelon was expired already. This is not the first time that I face problem like that . I'm thinking to boycott it and look for another store. read more

This place is conveniently located by my job so I frequent this market when I need something last minute. They're packaged goods are a bit overpriced but their produce is very cheap! Be careful, I have found that the cheap price comes with its flaws. I've purchased a bad zucchini, two pomegranates that barely had seeds and were a pale white instead of vibrant red, and avacados that ripened extremely fast. If I'm in a pinch I will continue to go here but have to say I prefer big stores like shop rite and stop and shop. read more

When this market first came to town I was excited to have a store where you can get everything, veggies, fish, meat. But the longer I've been going, the more I'm disliking it, if not for the convenience, I wouldn't go at all. This market is very racist, especially the guys in the meat and fish department. The guys in the meat section always has an attitude and act like they don't even want to serve you. They stand there and talk about the black customers and make jokes in spanish and laugh right in their face. They do the same thing in the fish section. And they owner in charge of the fish section is no better, he is rude to customers and I feel like this is encouraged behavior. So far I haven't had any issues with the cashiers, or the other owners that roam the store, but I'm going to start looking for some place else to shop, I'm finding myself thoroughly aggravated and pissed when I leave that store. People have enough going on in their lives without having to into a store and be insulted by staff. read more

Very good prices for produce. The best kale I have ever purchased. For $30 I came out with 6 bags stuffed with fresh vegetables.

What a gem! I had no idea this place was here. I am a huge fan of farmers markets for their steals on produce, variety and freshness. I also think it is a much needed resource to have a place to purchase healthier options without killing your wallet. I've been to this market at least 5 or 6 times within two weeks of discovering it and am constantly comparing their pricing to that of the local supermarket, big chain stores and other farmers markets. Elmora FM is always on par with produce , meat, fish and deli however, I notice that with items you can typically get at other stores ( Goya products, juices, etc. ) they are more expensive or same price. Speaking of meat and fish, there is the option of pre packaged meats or the butcher ( I'm talking cow feet, cow tongue, tripe, ground beef, whole chickens etc.) Same goes for the fish section. I'm always so amazed at how many different options they have ( clams, scallops, shrimp, squid, shark, bass etc. ) My one recomendation would be to add more scales around the store so that you can keep better track of how much your bill will be ( as most things cost per pound ) You can certainly walk away with a ton of veggies, fruits and other items for a whopping $20-$35 and plan meals for at least a week or two. read more

I always try to support local farms, so I'm really happy I can now walk around the corner to pick up what I need to cook for dinner. I was even more excited when I found all the exotic produce I can't find anywhere else -- korean sweet potato, daikon, thai chili pepper, mung bean sprouts, jicama, yautia lila, guava, fig, quince, fresh herbs, you name it!!! They also have shark, live crabs, oxtail, lengua, escargot, cheeses from Latin America, challah, naan, pistachio halva, a vast selection of trail mix goodies, I could go on forever... I am truly inspired to taste something different and cook various ethnic dishes because they have something fresh and new every time I visit. Nice farmers market. Compared to other farmers markets I've been too, I found it was a little on the expensive side but still decent prices. Produce is always fresh. I found their eggplants and tomatoes are great. I would have given 5 stars, but the last time I was here, I was approached by a parking lot scammer while leaving. Needless to say, I was harassed and got scammed out of $40 and I won't ever be returning to this farmers market. read more

Love the fresh seafood ,chicken ,fruits n veggies......but I've experienced terrible customer service on multiple occasions... An employee literally slammed the door in my face......... but other than that they have the best prices!!!! read more

my wife was there today to pick up some meat. the butcher weighed it and priced it, my wife noticed the butcher taking some meat out of the bag, which she confronted him and he tried to deny it but my wife was looking thru the glass all the time. he put back the meat in the bag. she tried to let the owner know what happen but the Chinese owner just brushed her off. so my advise is beware when the butcher's are handling you meat. read more
