Had lunch here with coworkers last week. Parking lot is convenient but small and can get full. There is only one handicapped parking spot, and the main entrance has stairs so this restaurant may not be ideal for anyone with mobility issues. Bathroom are gender-specific and would be a tight fit for a wheelchair or walker. In the ladies room, the electric paper towel dispenser dispenses the paper towels such that they hang into the trash can - very gross! They need a shorter trash can! We arrived at 11:30 and had our choice of seats. We sat near the fireplace which was a nice treat on a cold day. Our server was great and explained specials and drinks (no alcohol for us since we had to go back to work). The menu had a good variety to choose from and we all enjoyed our food. I had a world series burger with tater tots - it was delicious. We would definitely come back, hopefully for happy hour! read more

Just to reiterate why Elmwood is our favorite. First, lots of beers on tap. Second, friendly and attentive service. Food comes out of the kitchen piping hot thanks to expediters working with the servers. And finally, all items on the menu are prepared well and generous portions. We find that the fish fry is routinely very good, but that other options are very average. I tried the quesadilla with chicken. The cheese was not fully melted. The onions inside are raw, which is unpleasant. Maybe if the cheese was fully melted so that it softened the onions that would help. It was not super hot, and I think it may have sat waiting a little too long. Onion rings tasted like they had sat also - they are so good when they come out piping hot! read more

This was my first time here and a friend and I came after a Yelp Event at Mt. Hope Cemetery across the street, which if you've never visited......I also highly recommend. We sat outside at the Elmwood Inn and Lisa was our server. She was fantastic- friendly, attentive and pretty much running the whole show that day. My friend ordered a burger with onion rings and Lisa suggested the beer battered haddock sandwich for me. It came with lettuce and tartar sauce on fresh brioche bread and I had coleslaw on the side. A few people suggested this place for a good fish fry, so off I went with some family. I thought the outdated interior aesthetic was interesting. The fish fries going around looked huge and delicious, and it was getting me excited. I asked them to toss some Cajun spices on mine - which didn't happen. All 3 of us that had fish fries all agreed - the fish fries were extremely bland and lacked flavor. The tartar sauce was very good, but I've always felt a great fish fry should be able to be flavorful on its own. The "salt and vinegar" fries were also very bland, and tasted like they were made in old fryer oil. The garlic broccoli was the star of the foods I tried. The final nail was that for unexplained reasons, it took an extra 30 minutes to get the check, long after leftovers had already been boxed. Fish fry was overdone and was dry. Others I saw with fish looked just fine. I just wasn't one. The Leo's chocolate cake was a day past being fresh (finished off yesterday's?) - cake was a bit dry as was the fondant. dry too. No real biggies. Staff made it right and were very courteous and friendly. If something isn't right, the Inn will fix it. A nice, comfortable place with (normally) very good food. Just got back from dinner at the Elmwood Inn and I have to say I have forgotten what a great place this is! It's been along time since we've been there, and we will definitely be going back again very soon! We both had the beer battered fish fry with french fries, and coleslaw. Oh my goodness...second to none! We have been having fish fries this lent at various places around Rochester, and by far this was the most delicious we've had. Even though it was beer battered, it was light and the fish was so sweet. Cannot say enough good things about it. And the Elmwood is so quaint and roomy. Even on a Friday night...Good Friday..., we did not feel crowded or rushed. The service was excellent and the Guinness, delicious! Thank you, Elmwood! We'll back very soon! read more

I came here on a Thursday night with a bigger group - 9 people. The service was not that great average at best. She did split our bill though but the timelines wasn't there. However the reason why it wasn't the best was the quality of the food. I got a favorite on the menu the Elmwood angus dip ... Totally made wrong ..wrong cheese bread and everything but the worst was the quality of the beef was terrible and cooked wrong. My mom got the chicken French and it was terrible as well. The people who got burgers though really liked their burgers. However the one request someone made was already on their menu but because they customized the burger they charged him more. There were 8 of us for lunch on a Friday. It was busy but our Server was friendly and attentive. Our orders were taken and our food delivered in a reasonable amount of time. The orders ranged from Burgers,a Reuben, Chicken and Fish sandwiches, a Fajita and a Taco Salad. They all looked inviting and everyone said theirs was delicious. Recently stopped in for a fish fry. The size of the fish was as expected, but the breading (instead of being nicely browned, it was almost dark brown) was over cooked and had no flavor. I went here on a Thursday night for 90's trivia. It was fun, we had a blast. Our waitress was great. The food was not. I got a grilled chicken quesadilla. It came with tomatoes, black olives, jalapeños and Mexican cheese. A side of sour cream, salsa, rice and tortilla chips. The chicken had no flavor and the tomatoes where old and mushy. The tortilla chips were stale and the rice seemed like it was out of a box. I definitely won't get this again. I will however go back for trivia night. read more

One of our favorite places to go. Very cozy atmosphere with good, comforting food. The staff is very friendly and down-to-earth. However, the place is almost always understaffed and the servers have a hard time keeping up. Note to management: you can't serve a dozen tables and a full bar with one server and one bartender. Shout out to their salads. I'm not typically a salad eater at all but their steak salad and tomato salads are both always fresh and well balanced. A great pub-style restaurant. Oh btw: please consider changing the lightbulbs in the dining room to a warmer hue. It's super unwelcoming compared to the bar side. read more

The food is great - when you finally get it. Parking here is next to impossible. There are just not enough spaces for the number of available seating. I get it, real estate is hard to come by. But this is rediculous. It takes forever to get your food. And forget about delivery!!! You can wait up to 20-30 minutes after it's supposed to be ready - all while servers apologize for the wait. The lobby should tell you everything you need to know about the attention to detail here. Their last award was in 2008 and most, if not all, of their posted certificates expired YEARS ago. Our first ever visit to Elmwood Inn went very well. We were after the fish fry and a nice beer to go with it. I got the batter-dipped fish while my wife went with broiled. Both were perfect. Fries were perfect too. Good craft beer from Buffalo (Hayburner and First Loop), though the Hayburner seemed a little off compared to our typical Hayburners. We ordered delivery on Sunday night and were extremely disappointed by everything. We ordered nachos and a vegetarian pita. We ordered through Grubhub and tracked the delivery; it look significantly longer than it had initially estimated. And, considering what arrived at our door, it was absolutely not worth the wait. The nachos were an extremely sad excuse for nachos and severely lacking in toppings. The chips tasted very stale and it was clear that they had been microwaved. I understand that we ordered delivery and they weren't going to be extremely "fresh," but the quality was still extremely low. Essentially what I received was an entire bag of tortilla chips with random olives sprinkled throughout, and a tiny container of salsa to add on as I pleased. As for the vegetarian pita, there was nothing special about it. It tasted like a store-bought pita, and the vegetables were lacking. We could have made it at home. The prices were wild - $12 for the nachos (aka stale tortilla chips with olives) and $11 for the plain veggie pita. Absolutely ridiculous and very, very frustrating. I would never recommend this place to anyone, and felt like I wasted a ton of money. read more

Today, we were finally able to go to the Elmwood Inn and redeem our offer. we loved everything about it. Our server, Jody, was such a delightful person. The food was excellent! My husband had the Elmwood Dip sandwich with the Mac and cheese as his side. I had the Fish Fry plate. We also had the Pretzels as our appetizer. Everything was prepared perfectly. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an Irish pub, and a big plus is that they have a parking lot so we didn't have to search for street parking. Please give them a try. Wow. What an epic fail on every level. The bartender had no idea what was in the special that they where pushing. I ordered a blackened chicken sandwich, it took over an hour for my table to get its food order and my order was completely wrong, I sent it back, and waited. 10 minutes later they attempted to bring my correct sandwich. It wasn't right again. It was just a plain chicken breast that was microwaved and unseasoned on a roll. I pointed out it still wasn't right and my server offered to get me another one, but my this point the rest of friends where almost done with their meals, and I had little faith that they would get it right anyway. So, if you like random food that you didn't order, if you enjoy sticky table tops and only one drink with your meal because the server never came back, then check this place out.
