The kids really enjoy running around and playing on the different playground structures, including the spinning jungle gym thing and the huge swing! In addition to that great playground, they also have a nice long trail to walk around the whole park, lots of open space to use otherwise (I've seen people playing volleyball before), other sports courts such as basketball right near the playground, and one of my favorites, the fitness court! That's a great place to do some exercises that I've sometimes seen folks do on a playground, but this one is customized for exercise. Weather's still not fully there yet, but I may get back out there soon to use that equipment again!

There is a big loop around the lake that my dogs and I took, which is nice because it's a good walk without being too long or too short and you don't need to turn around. Lots of winding path areas so you feel pretty secluded. If you have reactive dogs you can easily step aside in many areas to let others pass. I'm excited to bring my dogs back here.

Plenty of space, the only time I see a real crowd here is during a sporting events...not the Eagles, but youth soccer practice, volleyball tournaments, or something similar...otherwise there is generally plenty of room here to walk your dog, stretch your legs or just kick back and read a book. My favorite thing to do here is grab lunch and sit in the picnic area relaxing on my lunch hour. Can be hard to go back to work on a gorgeous day, but well worth it in my book! There is one "not recommended" review...I have no idea what this person is talking about, this park is VERY well maintained. Grass is cut, the place is clean and the park ranger is never far from sight.

They have a butterfly garden in one section, and some trails that go through the forest and through some old farmland. It's a fun place to walk around, and there's also a big field where you can play some sports. There's also a playground and a pavilion that's available for rent. Overall, pretty nice spot for a morning or afternoon walk on a nice day. Also nice for outdoor gatherings with friends during this pandemic!

They have multiple vendors, food trucks and of course a beer garden. Parking isn't bad, and they offer paid parking and ADA if you need to be closer to the venue. Really fun time on a nice summer day, highly recommend you heck out the concerts under the stars for the lineup.

Jokes aside, while that hyperbole is of course not true, thematically it is. As another Yelper pointed out, this is not Tyler or Morris by a long shot. This is basically a small down and back loop with a few short side trails that crisscross the main path, Jenkins Road. The below is a good map that shows that every trail they have here is 1/4 mile or less (sometimes much less) and that the main path is paved blacktop. www.jenkinsarboretum.org/visit/map/ During our 75ish minutes here, we didn't see anyone (I didn't expect to considering it was a Friday afternoon in winter still with snow on the ground) and the parking lot was nearly empty. By no means is this a destination stop but we had some time to kill before the next activity and Jenkins provided some nice alternative programming that was enjoyable.

Honestly though, I would have been just as happy to spend a whole day driving to each stop and walking along the trails. There's never enough time to do it all. There's a number of ways to see it. We booked a small-group tour out of Philadelphia on a beautiful day in September. You can tour it on your own (by car) or book the trolley tour. The National Park Service app is very helpful if you're going the self-guided route. It also gives you closure alerts and the time & place of events throughout the day. The musket firing demonstration just happened to be offered that day. It was one of the highlights of our visit. I won't get into details since I've already reviewed each stop separately. Just know that it was just as fun driving over the Knox bridge and seeing wildlife near the roads along the meadows and creek. We saw a couple of white-tailed deer as well as a cute little spotted fawn that looked like Bambi. That was another highlight for us. The historical houses, monuments, redoubts, and replica huts are scattered throughout Valley Forge. There are bridges and trails along Valley Creek and the Schuylkill River for hikers and nature lovers. We saw many people enjoying the walk. Their dogs were loving it too. It truly was a fun day for all. Don't miss it!

Can't ask for more as you're able to spend a perfect day at this park. The welcome center is a great start as they offer a great orientation video in a large theater that runs often. Then you can tour the museum for little bit of more history to absorb in! Gift shop offers great souvenirs! The park is clean and easy to get around as you may go at your own pace in your own car touring the park stopping at attractions. The map is easy to use and follow. Or you can purchase an audio tour or rent bikes. Love the history and the information provided. Great attractions that makes you feel in the moment when visiting. Love George Washington's quarters and the barracks around the park along with the artillery park. Hands down one of the best major attractions that you must visit when in the area.

I've also brought the toddler over to play around a bit in the morning, and it's been a fun spot to check out. The playground has a small kid area, which I appreciate. The exercise equipment is in two separate spots in the park (that I'm aware of), which makes for a nice workout - run to the one by the baseball fields, do some exercise, then run back around to the one near the memorial and do some exercises and stretches there. It's closer to home than the longer route I usually run, so I like doing this shorter route with some additional workouts if I'm a little more crunched on time in the morning.

Hard to rate an entire park this massive, but all things considered, after 5 years of traversing the trails here, this is an awesome park. Note that I live in U-City, so the fact that such a massive trail system exists in only a ~20 minute drive, depending on which part of the park I start in, is a blessing and keeps my sanity. Friends of Wissahickon does a great job maintaining trails and even expanding the system over the past few years. I don't think I've ever observed an unseemly part of the park. Definitely unseemly times of year like the snow thaw or the time between the trees dying and the snow falling, but otherwise, this park is beautiful all times of year. I've never had a hard time parking, never even had trouble with crowds even around the most popular trails (ex. Forbidden Drive). Even the bikers are friendly and patient here! Would strongly recommend not only visiting but coming back to keep exploring! I'm still finding new gems in this massive trail system.

Today I decided to switch things up and take a trip to Valley Green in Wissahickon Park, Philly…read more I've always heard about Devil's Pool but had never been, so when I saw the trailhead, I figured--why not check it out? What I've known about Devil's Pool is that it's been a popular hangout spot, especially for teens and young adults--swimming, drinking, smoking, etc. But I wasn't prepared for how disappointing the trail would be. At nearly every turn, there was trash--plastic bottles, wrappers, and even entire black garbage bags just left behind. The closer I got to Devil's Pool, the worse it got. There are clear signs asking visitors to take their trash with them, yet so many clearly don't. It's really disheartening to see such a beautiful natural space disrespected like that. Instead of feeling peaceful or connected to nature, it honestly felt a bit unsanitary and neglected. Wissahickon Park deserves better. If you visit, please respect the space and take out everything you bring in.
