I hear rumors they may rebuild. Hope so. Anyhow, this library on Aaron St. is great and they have been busy trying to fill in for the the closed library. And I confess I love the FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY. I donate and buy many books from the used book stores by the libraries. I just read (from their used book store) the play A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. I confess I never read it before and it was a fun fast read. Then I found the play on television and watched it. Loved them both.

They habe a nice Friends of Lubrary bookstore. You can reserve the books you want online and then pixk them up from the reserve shelf. Movies too. Audio books. They habe computers. Printing and copying. Not a research library and the Sarasota area library offerings don't match up with Tampa but lots on offer. Well staffed. Comfy and spacious. Newspapers and pamphlets too on the local area and sights. Senior living and shows. I read a book a day. Sometimes two.

The front has some amazing wooden doors - step inside to a landscaped court yard, and an open air covered reading room with free wireless. If you need to work away from home, this is the place to do so. Look carfeully, the building and courtyard are so well done, you might mistake this library for one of the near by homes. The library sits on a street that looks out to the ocean. Another cool thing to check out is the DuPont shell collection which is quite extensive and is on display in the court yard. We stopped by during the annual book sale and picked up some great books for less than a $1 each - some of the books looked like they had never been opened. 5 Stars for being a cool building, a free activity, a great place to read and having free wifi.

This visit, I paged through a book of rural Florida photos by Carlton Ward. The small library is more curated than libraries of larger size, but it's a real asset to this refined beach town.

It has been years since I stepped foot into a library. It's been at least in said move to Florida…read moreback in 2013. Went to the North Port library to get my actual library card for Sarasota County. When I heard that this library with having a dollar book sale, and I work 2 doors down, I was all over it. However, I did not see the sign that said book sale this way, so I went to the regular shop and paid $35 for 9 books. However, I did look around the books I bought and walked around the book sale, where I ended up picking up 3 more books. The people that work there are very friendly, and the book sale was huge. This is a super beautiful library that was just rebuilt a few years ago so it's a very modern and clean. I highly recommend if you're in the Venice area and like books, and libraries, that you check out this Venice library. I kind of wish I still worked down the street just so I could visit this library again on lunch.

Just stay in the other areas and it's nice and quiet. Also - the thesis room is an amazing place to read up on an incredibly wide variety of subjects. I highly recommend going in there, grabbing a random thesis and sitting down for a quick read! Great way to get some knowledge crammed into your head. There is some sort of deep seated passion and intrigue mixed with fear and angst in every one of them! All in all a really fantastic library.
