Leg day with a view... This YMCA is incredible! The location is doing a lot of heavy lifting, but the amenities are all there. This Y is located directly across the street from the lovely, and heavily trafficked Pier 39. You can run on the treadmill, and watch the fog dissipate over the bridge and people watch as thousands of tourist make their way in and around the area. The equipment is well placed, the layout just makes sense. It's 3 floors in total, but you won't find yourself running around looking for a place to do core and yoga next to loud free weights, or dead lifters. I stayed for 2 hours and 30 mins, and anytime I was ready to transition to another area there was ample space and machines to use. ' The pool is very large, at the time there was a class doing laps with a life guard on duty. The sauna is also on that level, you can reach it through the lockers on each side. I didn't go in on this trip but it was also very large inside, and very clean. The entire gym was very clean, with all the equipment placed where it should be. The customer service at first was awful, when I walked in and told the rep at the desk it was my first time...he robotically said 1st floor this, 2nd floor that, and blahahahaahaha is all I heard. He never even looked up. So I went in a little bummed, but once I reached the second floor, I came across several more staff members who were very informative and actually seemed like they were there to help and answer questions. Pro tip: They have digital lockers! You don't need to bring a lock, just set a four digit code and the space is all yours.

I like that the pool is heated since it gets pretty cold in the area. The first 15 minutes is free time, then the rest of class consists of sing-along and additional activities. I thought an hour would be too long, but it goes by pretty quickly. One session isn't enough to teach them to swim, it's nice to get them acclimated to being in the water and getting their whole head wet. Especially when we don't know anyone that has a pool near us.

You sign up for day of the week, and get a 1 hour swim lesson with other children around the same age (6 months - 6 years for Cuttlefish). The first 15 mins of the class are free time in the water, you can play with the various water toys. The next 15-20 mins is Karaoke in the Pool, with nursery rhymes in a circle time. The last 15-20 mins of the class are divided into age groups, with the youngest kids on one side, and older kids on the other. Some of the teachers are really wonderful, Mary is my favorite, as she has a passion and affinity for working with the little ones. All the teachers are great though in different ways. My daughter loves swim lessons here, even though the class week after week is the same thing lol. The classes are also inexpensive compared to Le Petite Balen. The makeup sessions are very flexible too - just be sure to call Monday morning at 10am the week you'll be needing a different day - and generally they're able to fit you in. Or even in my case, they couldn't, but said to call the following week to have me do the make-up, which was so kind. Parking is super easy here too, and conveniently located next to the Zoo and Sunset district.

While I wasn't afraid of pools or the ocean, I'd drown if I found myself in deep water without a life vest. I decided to finally take the plunge and learn in my 30s, and I'm so glad I found Woody! At the time, she was offering lessons in Oakland, and I chose her because it was in my neighborhood. Although the 1:1 lessons were a bit pricey for my budget at the time, they were worth it! After a few months of lessons, I was able to get past the mental barrier I had around deep water and finally learned how to tread water. Beyond that, Woody equipped me with numerous skills and techniques to feel confident and comfortable in the water. Let me tell you, learning to swim as an adult is no easy feat, but having a fantastic instructor makes all the difference. I highly recommend Woody for swim lessons! Thank you, Woody!

Our daughter isn't quick to trust or warm up. I was a little concerned that the teachers wouldn't respect her shyness That was not the case at all. The coaches are all respectful, kind and professional. Now she knows how to swim and more! The picture is of her learning to dive! SCAM SCAM SCAM This…read moreswimming pool has a very scammy predatory business practice. My child already graduated from La Petite Baleen at level 5. She swam there for at least 6 years and already knew all the basics. My wife was looking for something for her to do to help her maintain her skills. She was researching online and found this place that was ran by Daly City Recreational Center and wanted to give them a try. The first time she took our daughter there they did a quick assessment and said she belonged to Level 1. My wife reasoned with them and they ended up putting her in Level 2 (Jellyfish). We paid for 4 classes and they told us at the end of the 4th class they will evaluate her again. I was there with her the first 3 classes and all I saw was them putting my daughter on the side of the pool and had her kick her legs and swing her arms in the water while holding the side of the pool. Today was the 4th class. Before she began today's class I asked the guy at the reception counter about the rating. He told me he already got the eval result and that my daughter has failed. So all together they already gave her a failing grade from just 3 previous classes, even before her 4th and final class has started. I told him she already graduated from La Petite at Level 5. How did she fail when all she really did most of the time was kick her legs at the side of the pool. He gave me a non-answer about list of stuff she need to do and the teacher said she failed. My wife was angry. At the end of the today's class (the 4th class) my wife asked the teacher how come my daughter failed. The reason the teacher gave us was another non-answer like "her legs were too low". Even though she never told my daughter to kick her legs higher during class at all. There were zero instructions given. Secondly, when the teacher had her swam out in the open pool, she had my daughter laid on her back and kick her legs in the water while the teacher walked backward holding my daughter armpit. The teacher basically kept holding her back and didn't let my daughter swam freely and let her perform. But when my wife asked why did she hold my daughter's back the teacher lied and said my daughter told her to hold her. My daughter said she never told her to do that and that the teacher only kept repeating simple instructions like "swim in a circle". The whole class was only 25 minutes and there were 5 students in class. The teacher pretty much carried each student in circles and called it swimming. Each student had only around 5 minutes of "swim time" per class. While the rest of the 20 minutes she just swing her arms and kicked her legs at the side of the pool. A complete waste of time and money. My feeling is that they don't want to move students up too fast and they want to milk as much tuition fee from the parents as possible. Honestly, from what I could see, most parents just put their kids here so they have something to do. Many parents just day dream or scroll on the phone instead of paying attention to what they are teaching their kids. At about $10 per class it is cheap, I'll give you that. But you really do get what you paid for. And with the quality of "education" they give your child, it's totally not worth it. I am not sure where all the positive reviews came from. I am pretty sure they are either from people who works there or from parents who just like the big pool. I read through all the 1 star reviews on Yelp and Google review and they are inline of what we've experienced. This is not a swim class, it's more of a children day care with water.
