Would give 0 stars if I could. I had high hopes because I'm a member at Los Angeles athletic club.. I thought because this place had more history. It would be a nice venue, but couldn't be further from the truth. Firstly, every one of the staff members was rude and standoffish, I think this must be the only place to work out near downtown San Francisco because it was so overcrowded..Restaurant wait was long, and good luck waiting for your check. Complete attitude of indifference. Seems that all they care about is turning beds and jacking up their membership numbers. Downtown Olympic Club delivers spotless facilities, top-tier equipment, and a staff that makes you feel like family from the moment you walk in. Founded in 1860, with its downtown Post Street clubhouse opening in 1893, then rebuilt after being destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire, reopening in 1912. Today that same building houses two indoor pools, two gyms, nine squash and handball courts, and 6,000 square feet of exercise equipment. The Olympic Club was really cool. To use the facility or stay at any of the locations a person needs to be a member or know a member. The Olympic Club membership has a long wait list to get in, but it's pretty easy if you know a member. The rooms are nice, gym equipment is super new and has a great variety. The full sized pool for swimming laps is beautiful and fully accessible to guests. The bar and breakfast at Article III was delicious. It's fun being able to order and there's never really a wait. I was here for a work trip and The Olympic Club is a great place for professionals! read more

A truly magnificent and special place. While the time I spent here was brief, upon walking in, the feeling of opulence and prestige begets you. A stunning private club established before the 1900s for the distinguished and uber wealthy rich. I came for a broker event of mine for the JP Morgan Chase Life Sciences conference held in SF week or 1/11/26. It was primarily a social networking scene for early venture bio tech and pharmaceutical firms. I wish I took a tour around the venue prior to leaving. Hopefully I can get another opportunity to visit. This is a members only club which costs tends of thousands and north of that, $100,000 annually to join amongst other fees for activities. read more

Came here for a networking event during a conference week. This is a private athletic club with a rich history. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. After some quick checks, we came to the conference floor quickly. Food here was great. Space was wonderful. They work really hard to keep the food and drinks coming. Always good to catch up with old friends. It is in downtown SF, which explains the parking situation. Their swimming pool looks really good in photos. Really hope to join here one day. read more

This is a pretty secretive club that I had no idea about until a member brought me as their guest. It's an unassuming building from the outside, but once you go in, there are several security steps to maneuver, and you must be a member to enter or go with one. They have a wealth of exercise facilities, including a large pool, children's swim classes, several gyms, and even a small restaurant that has very reasonably priced food like hamburgers, grilled cheese, etc. I don't know how much membership is - it depends on your age - but if you're looking for a reasonable gym in the city, this could be a good option. Came here for my husband's holiday party. The space is just as you'd expect. Beautiful. Timeless. Elegant. The food was actually really good. I loved the ravioli and steak. The salads were fresh and the desserts were very tasty! After we left we decided to take a peak at the bar area but were quickly asked "Can I help you?" by the staff. Lol. They do not mess around. The dining is great when it's open, which is seldom. More frequently it's closed to members and open only for outside events. Even before the pandemic, dining hours started getting increasingly limited, and now the Lakeside dining is only open half the week (at best) and downtown dining is only open in the bar. The Club has moved decisively to prioritize being a venue for special revenue-generating events, while nevertheless collecting substantial monthly dues from the members who frequently find themselves in front of closed dining room doors. A series of bizarre decisions eliminated gym space and equipment downtown and replaced them with rooms that are rarely used and office spaces that have no place in an athletic club. Candid member feedback is never solicited - even on member surveys, the possible responses are carefully limited to constrain the scope of feedback. The Club once put the membership first and all others second. The Club now puts all others first and the membership last. As a member of nearly 50 years, I know what the Club can be when it wants to, and I see these last several years as a hopefully short-lived aberration. read more

I've been a member for over 15 years. This club has always been the best hidden in pain sight secret. The gym, pool, restaurant and, of course staff and parking. Covid has impacted all of us. The food and cocktails: solid. It is service. This is for both locations. Moving F&B venues for Covid compliance to opening and reopening has impacted everyone. Ie., roof back to inside and limited main room dining. Waitstaff and chef coordination on service .. it's like who's on first. Having said that, this is a club worth being part of. And, if you can snag an invite to come play 18 holes, or just a meal - count yourself lucky as it really is a treat. read more

This is a review of the bistro style dining venue off the main lobby. It's a very comfortable place, and set up almost like a sports bar with TVs and a variety of places to sit. I was here for breakfast and had the French Toast. It was excellent. Tasty and quite filling. The coffee is also quite good. Service is very attentive and professional. A very nice place for a meal. Very nice layout and structuring. This review is only for their main floor host room and bar next door. Fine architectural building. H'orderves were nice, but it wasn't filling for 50 plus people in the room. I liked the cheese crusty bread bites that they served up. The salad in Chinese boxes, was fun, but the sauce lacked umph. I was able to play as a guest here and I have to say this course is so unbelievably nice & beautiful, words just can't do this place any justice. The tee boxes were clean and I mean so clean I could not even find a divot anywhere. The greens were so fast and true, if you are not on top of your putting, you're going to be in for a long day. The fairways were so nicely well kept, you can see the checkered marks on the fairway like you see on TV. To top it all off, the food here and the cocktails were better than most restaurants I dine at. I truly hope to be back and I will be looking forward to it. read more

The City Club branch of The Olympic Club is located on Post Street in the heart of Union Square. It is easily accessible by BART, car, and one's feet. There is a parking garage on the backside of the building for convenience. I was invited here as a guest of a member. The facility is a sanctuary for sports. The sixth floor contains multiple fitness rooms with views of the city. There are two regulation basketball courts, one on the first floor and another on the sixth. There is a very nice bar/restaurant on the first floor. The pool is really spectacular with an iconic stained glass dome. I can only imagine doing the backstroke while enjoying the dome. It also contains hotel rooms which I didn't get to visit. The club highlights all the athletes throughout the building. This is quite inspirational. The ladies locker room is spa like with Molton Brown amenities, showers, steam room, sauna, and lounge. The staff are all extremely hospitable. The dress code outside of fitness activities is a nice touch. read more

They served three course dinner - small green salad, rubbery steak and small piece of flavorless cake. Servers were ignorant and did no care at all what their customers want. Beautiful facilities! --the best athletic club in Northern California, by far. I've visited with a friend who is a member, and I was quite impressed by every aspect of it. HOWEVER...someone here posted this: "I'll bet you'll be surprised at how little the initiation is and how affordable the monthly dues are - just about the same as any other first class gym." I can't think of too many first class gyms there are in Northern California charge a $9,000 initiation fee! There's also a waiting list a couple of years long, you have to be sponsored by two members and go through a vetting process (and that's if you *don't* want to use the golf courses; if you do, the waiting list is more than ten years long!) In short, wanting to join the Olympic is about the easiest part of the process. Paying, praying and waiting are the difficult parts. read more

The guest room was immaculately clean and elegantly designed. And our king sized bed was the MOST COMFORTABLE thing in the entire building. We were allowed full access to all of the fitness, sport, and social facilities in the building. Like royalty playing in a palace, we took full advantage of every room in the place. The night we had the opportunity to join the Olympic Club's elite society is one I'll never forget. So thankful for the hospitality and the scenic swim in the Nadatorium! read more

Oh, Olympic Club, how I love thee. This review is for the dining element of the club. I don't work out there and I don't golf there, so I can't speak to those facets of club operations. My fiancé and I had dinner at the club last night after having our engagement photos done, and it was the perfect way to cap off the day! We'd eaten in the bar area before and went to the crab feed earlier this year, but we hadn't formally dined in the Main Dining Room at the City Clubhouse. A few things of note: 1) Their food is awesome. Like, really awesome. I didn't really know what to expect when we sat down, but everything we ordered was seriously top-notch, from the oysters and spinach soup to the petrale sole. Yum. 2) Service is on point. You wouldn't expect anything less from the Olympic Club, but man, they deliver. Service was friendly, and we were immediately visited by a few people as soon as we were seated: people bringing us water, clearing the extra plates on our tables, and taking our drink orders. 3) It's dressy. Now, I'm sure some people view this as a BAD thing. On the contrary, I love this aspect of the club. My fiancé had to wear his jacket inside and we were both very much dressed up (I was in a dress and heels, he had on slacks, a jacket and a tie). Let's be real: there aren't many places in SF where you HAVE to dress up. I appreciate going somewhere and having it feel somewhat swanky. I am only reviewing for the RESTAURANT on the 2nd Floor. ____________________ Restaurant = nice, simple, elegant and spacious. Service = attentive, friendly. They will and do serve the men before the women. Food = delicious. Their menu changes with the seasons, so it varies. I had their lamb sandwich with pesto sauce on grilled bread, and started with a spring mix salad. Delicious flavors, and perfect portions (not too big but not a model's size.) Dessert = good. Creme brulee & NY cheesecake. Yum. Parking = street parking, or park at their lot, or across the street from the place. Yep, pay to play there. My only concern about this place...used to be an all-men's club...so it gives me the creeps, even though about three decades ago, women were allowed in. read more

I went to the Olympic Club with my parents for Thanksgiving. My mother receives reciprocity at this club through working at the DAC in Detroit. I was a little put off by having to get dressed up for the occasion, but the building and the food were exquisite. From memory, the items that I ate: 2 oysters on the half shell 2 Shrimp 1 piece of melon wrapped in proscuitto 2 pieces thinly sliced, peppercorn encrusted seared ahi 1 piece smoked salmon sushi Caesar Salad Chicken Pate 2 small venison chops 2 pieces of turkey cornbread and rice stuffing 1 sweet potato-stuffed ravioli in alfredo sauce garnished with crisp prosciutto (ohmygawd) Mashed Potatoes Gravy bread pudding pumpkin pie strawberries and cream half a bottle of wine Yes, I'm a pig. WAAAAAAAAAAY too much good food! This meal is almost worth joining the club. I would be interested to find out what they do on other special occasions. If you are impressed by stuffy ,exclusionary places to eat ,this is the place for you. My cousin belongs to this place and it's a bit of a joke and stereotype when it comes to tradition. You can't get in the dining room without a coat and tie. Doesn't matter if it's a clip on tie that has a naked lady on it,but it is required. I got to go one year because as part of being a dues paying member,you are charged for two meals a year whether you eat here or not. So me and my dues paying cousin walk in and get our prix fix meal du jour . It's OK food,but it's just way too stuffy and traditional for a free spirit like myself. Who knew such amazing facility is located in the heart of San Francisco? * Sigh * This place is none like others... 24 Fitness, One, Crunch, and etc... The building has about 8 levels and the entire building is dedicated to Olympic Club. And unlike other gyms, this place is pretty quiet and does not get crowded for the obvious reasons. Amenities include spacious gym, indoor basket ball courts, racquet ball courts, swimming pools, diving pool, whirlpool, men's & women's locker room along with shower and saunas, barbershop, massage, computer room, and etc... The pool is so gorgeous. I could just spend the entire afternoon floating on the tranquil water here. read more

The Olympic Club has its critics and faithful - both have some valid points. Yet, in my experience I have enjoyed coming here since my early university years. Wedding and social functions are popular here and it is always a nice time. Parking is a bit of a challenge in the garage. So I suggest a cab or walking as a best bet. Everyone has been a pleasure to know and meet; I don't believe that the high brow reputation is warranted... no one has made my me, friends, guests and other members feel that way. I just went for a visit as a guest of a long time member. The place is beautiful! There are two pools, two gyms, lots of equipment on all different levels, raquet ball, and everything else. My god the place is huge. While the majority of the members seemed to be older there were quite a few young members as well. It has been co-ed for years and is a great place to go if: 1. You can afford it (hahahahaha, you don't even want to know) 2. You work out all the time 3. You live or work close by I work half a block away but unless I win the lottery, you won't be seeing me there. read more
