Terrific! Awesome and a very Surprising experience here at the Staybridge hotel. Upon arrival there are metered parking spots right in front of hotel entrance and you do need to grab your own cart from inside doors and load your own stuff. Check in was quick and easy and staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. We got a first floor room which was perfect no waiting for an elevator. Room was clean , smelled great and had no issues whatsoever. The huge kitchen area with built in table and bar height chairs were definitely a plus. Sink, dishwasher, pots pans utensils even dishwashing liquid and a full size fridge and freezer with ice machine was a definite plus!! Pool and hot tub were accessible from 7am until 11pm and they also have free laundry facilities, even provided laundry baskets in your room closet, you just have to use your own soap and dryer sheets. Didn't get to use the fitness center but it was a very nice area as well. My king sized bed was comfy and the extra pillows were a nice touch. They even provided a box fan for my room because I sleep better with the white noise. Loved the room darkening blinds that were floor to ceiling and felt bigger than normal hotel rooms. Very peaceful and quiet night. Got a very good rest. Now on to the breakfast they provided. Wow!! Hot and cold items, fruits granola and yogurt bar, waffle station full size sausage patties, home fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, bagels, muffins, bread for toast, beverage area with delicious coffee teas and even soy and almond milk. Very good spacing of tables in the dining room without feeling squeezed in. Love the colors and the way it made you feel very homey. Great place for families and travelers. We will definitely stay here again in a heartbeat! I highly recommend this place. Thank you so much!!

Everything seemed to go right for me as I stayed here on a house hunting trip then when I was finally HERE! I asked for a higher level and I got it - Happy Hour is a blast and very walkable to all of downtown Des Moines! Feel very VIP at Embassy Suites! The Front desk was very helpful and knowledgeable! Great FREE Wifi in the lobby area. Wonderful Breakfast waiting for you each morning to enjoy! Managers Reception is alright too - "Happy Hour" * You need topay for parking across the street.

5 star stay, service, and room. I had the chance to stay here for a work function, so I can't comment on price or the reservation process since it was made for me. Parking was also paid for. As a note, the employer paid for the parking lot across the street, but as it was full, the Embassy Hotel upgraded my parking to the underground lot for no extra charge. That was nice. The room itself was really nice. No Keurig (which I found odd for a hotel of this caliber considering how many "budget" hotels have upgraded to them), but it did have an ice bucket and coffee items. It was a "two room" layout with a door separating the bedroom from the living room. The living room had a couch, flat-screen TV, and a table with four chairs. The bedroom also had a desk, flat screen TV, and bed. (Note: Bed was SUPER FLUFFY and awesome. Loved the bed) Bathroom had half a roll of toilet paper with an extra roll as well as a hair dryer. The water pressure in the sink faucet was a bit under what I'd like, but it worked fine. The shower had one of those "glass panel" walls with no way to close the shower. Very little water made it outside the shower. Water in the sink and shower were adaquetely hot though I would have loved a bit more. Room temperature was easy to control and pretty accurate. One side of the room overlooked the river while the opposing side of the room that had windows (with curtains that could close) that looked into the hotel. The hotel has 8 floors, and it has a design that means all rooms are situated around a giant empty area that looks down into the lobby. So if you're afraid of heights, do be aware of this. The hotel offers free breakfast as well as a free "happy hour" (which was two hours) with alcohol. The happy hour coincided with the hours of the work event, so the line for the free alcohol took at least a half an hour. It got better towards when the work party was focused on dinner instead of socializing. They offered a wide variety of drinks including mixed drinks, bottled beers, and others. They did not have any sort of sodas or non-alcoholic drinks (for those that don't drink). The staff for the hotel was pretty prompt and attentive. They were great about checking us in, and when I needed a safety pin for my dress, they had one available as well. Front desk was extremely friendly. Bar staff was friendly enough - but I must admit they were probably feeling pretty overworked, so I don't hold it against them. I had the chance to use the fitness center. They have three treadmills and an elliptical - all equipped with televisions. There's a weight bench, free weights, a Bosu trainer ball, and a weighted gym. There are yoga mats as well and enough space to do your own yoga routine. They also offer complimentary bottles of water in the gym as well as towels. I had the chance to use it when it was empty, but it isn't the largest room, so as a business hotel, I could imagine this starts to feel a bit crowded during the mornings. The elliptical worked amazingly and was very feature-filled. Breakfast in the morning was very thorough. I can't eat a lot of it, but they offered a lot of options. They were making omelettes to order, had cereal with milk, hot cocoa, coffee options, packaged yogurts, cream cheese treats, waffles, fruits, and other things. For being free-of-charge, it was very thorough and fresh and offered lots of options. Lots of seating too - even for busy, "hotel sold out" mornings like I was there. I did not use the internet nor the hotel pool during my stay. The hotel pool did look a bit small, but it'd get the job done for a workout swim. Other notes: -Hilton Rewards Silver status will get you two free bottles of water. Otherwise water is $4 a bottle if you drink the bottled water in the room (it's clearly labeled). -Hotel is a 2/3 block walk down to the bar district of downtown Des Moines. -Housekeeping came by at 9 and knocked on the door causing us to scramble to wake up and get dressed to answer the door. Once I answered it they said "sorry, we'll come back later". This has happened to my partner before when he has stayed in other Embassy hotels. Considering that check-out time is noon, I have absolutely no idea why they were bothering us at 9. This was possibly the biggest annoyance of my entire stay. Final Thoughts: It's definitely a nice place to stay. The room was very clean, and the facilities were nice. It felt very professional and clean, and I feel like some of their offerings (free drinks, free breakfast) went above and beyond. I'd stay here again.

We booked the Embassy Suites for the space and great breakfast for our family of 6. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that they upgraded us to a family suite! I was looking forward to seeing what a family suite had to offer. It was great. The floor plan included 2 bedrooms, 1 king and in the other room 2 queens, a living room and a 1 bathroom. A great amount of space for a family with 4 teens. The king bed had 5 pillows, so I made a pillow cocoon, snuggled in and had a great nights sleep. The breakfast was delicious including a made-to-order omelet bar, pancakes, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal... Something for everyone. The kids were disappointed that there wasn't a hot tub, but there is a pool. Glad we found a hotel that fit our needs.

    Mold dirt in shower

So .. the positives.. staff are great friendly and helpful.. Negatives... rooms are clean at first glance but dirty on closer inspection in the Covid era this isn't acceptable. One pic I didn't get was body hair from previous guests under the complimentary shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower. We paid a premium price but super 8 is cleaner.

First time here the staff was great she was able to answer my questions the room we got was a two bedroom two bath with a kitchen and fridge talk about a plus. Definitely recommend staying here. And I know I'll come back here when I'm in town.

Location, Location, Location! This is a perfect spot for friends and family to stay while visiting Des Moines! The hotel over looks the Des Moines River and downtown Des Moines! Located in the East Village you are walking distance to great eats, good drinking holes and you can walk up to the capital which is only a few blocks away! My parents have stayed here numerous times while visiting and the rooms are spacious and well kept! The bar has a nice happy hour with a free drink for the guest! Naturally living a few blocks away we joined my parents for this! We have walked over on a nice day grabbed a brew from the bar and sat on the beautiful patio that they have! Since our Apartment has no patio, we have to use others to get our outdoor drinking in the sun fix sometimes! The drinks are a bit pricey in the bar, but standard for a hotel bar! Again decently prized, amazing location, and good staff! This is a good choice if you are coming to Des Moines!

The rooms here were filthy. 720s ceiling vent is falling out of the ceiling. Every top surface is dusty including the mirrora, wall art, even elevator in the main lobby is racked with dust above the panel holding the buttons. Corners of the room where the floor board meets the carpet is seemingly coated with filth. Peering into the vents including the bathroom above the toilet is any persons nightmare with asthma. Water ponds in the hotel are equally coated with filth and are brown and green. Unpleasant sight when going down on the elevators. I don't get it...... Gross. (Btw i inspected three rooms all equally filthy) Pictures posted

Nice central lobby. Beautiful waterfalls. Rooms however need updated because you can't sleep in the lobby.

The single star is for the nice interior design. The rest was bad enough that I will never be back. Beds are in poor condition. The seem quite old and springy. Terrible on my back the room was missing items like the ice bucket and TV remote. The TV didn't work but much worse was the fact the thermostat did not work. The rooms are dated. Eddie, the desk clerk seemed rushed even though I was the only one in line and quite rude, arrogant and a bit pompous. I will not be back. I have raised my rating from a one star to a three since my room was clean and quiet. But the staff rating remains very low. I walked around the central lobby taking photos when I was "apprehended" by hotel security because I was taking photos, he seemed to think I was up to something sinister. I will still probably avoid the hotel due to my experience with staff.

They have an indoor pool open til 10pm, but no jacuzzi. Gym open 24/7. Restaurant and bar in the lobby. Our only bummer was when we first checked in, the worker was not very friendly to me. Otherwise great stay!

I've been here at the Des Moines downtown Hilton hotel and am appalled at how terrible of a job…read moretheir housekeeping did on our room after our first day. They did a terrible job with our beds- it looks like a kid did it or whoever did it just did a rush job and it's obvious they didn't try at all. The bathroom clearly wasn't touched at all. The sink still had a used hand towel and the surface wasn't wiped down, the trash wasn't changed, and all they did was swap out the floor bath towel. Our toilet still had marks from usage and they didn't clean it. Then the trash can in the living area was also not changed even though it was full, and our coffee supplies were not restocked. I tried to use the phones in the room to call room service and they didn't even work. So I had to call the front desk with my cell, and I was pissed- still am. Whoever did the housekeeping job for our room was awful. I'm not that harsh or picky with hotels but for Hilton, I expected much better service. We are Honors members as well. This is highly disappointing. The front desk sent an employee to restock our coffee bar and give us new towels, she didn't even apologize to me once. She asked me what trash needed to be changed, and then she put the bathroom trash can onto the bathroom sink to change it... and didn't wipe the sink down after. Then she left. Said nothing else, didn't ask if we needed anything. Made zero comments about anything. I wouldn't recommend staying here if their housekeeping service says anything about this specific Hilton. I barely complain about hotel service and am usually pretty understanding having worked in customer service myself, but this was absolutely not okay. They also promised us a room on the 8th floor and then changed us to the 4th floor hours into our check in day, and whoever was above our room was moving around/talking super loudly from 12am-6am, with spouts of coughing and puking. Not a huge deal for the noise since you can't control people, but now I'm pissed about housekeeping and want to rant about more. The plugs are also loose by the bedside tables/lamps, so your phone may not charge without you realizing until later. Overall- the housekeeping job, their service, as well as the attitude of the employee that came to the room after I complained to the front desk makes me wonder just how clean the hotel room really is. It's unprofessional and SO lazy. I do not recommend Hilton Des Moines Downtown. Edit: Next day after- I asked the front desk for the GM's card and talked to the front desk again about the housekeeping from yesterday. They apologized and I showed pictures and told them how the phones were also not working. Just got back to our room after having been gone all day, and when we left, they had people cleaning rooms in our hall at like 11am. It is 5pm now and they still haven't cleaned our room today. My brother saw one of the cleaners and he was just sitting in one of the other rooms on his phone not doing anything. I hate this hotel. Terrible service, unprofessional, and extremely lazy workers. I highly recommend going elsewhere like the Marriott. I expected much better from Hilton, especially being an Honors member. The walls are also very thin. Typically higher end or signature hotels offer a premium experience, enrapturing an environment conducive to a home away from home. Not here..... Key points: 1. Before making it to the front door, propositioned to accommodate persons living on the street. 2. Parking: Be prepared to navigate the maze if you utilize the underground parking, NOT located in the same building. Regardless, you will need to walk outside after paying $32 dollars to self-park whether in the underground garage or adjacent lot exposed to the elements. 3. Temperatures outside below freezing, inside could not get the room under what I would guess is 72-75 degrees. Cranked down thermostat, which indicated 63F, but I'm here to tell you, if I'm lying on the bed uncovered and sweating, it's not 63 degrees. The super awesome front desk clerk brought new keys so I could move rooms at 11:30 PM. Yeah, the new room had the same issue. Something is up with the heating and air, don't perceive there's autonomy in room temp...... As you can see in the picture, set on 60 and claims 67. Again, I typically don't sweat at 67 degrees uncovered. 4. If you like trains, you'll love this place, they come through several times a night in between sirens from local emergency responders. 5. Wear shoes at all times. It hurts when you step on the nail head coming up through the rug. 6. Holy towels if you're a person of faith. Quite airy! In summary, if you manage to drink enough from the overpriced mini bar you might get some rest. If you just want a good place to sleep and possibly even get a complimentary bottle of water on check-in, you'll need to go anywhere else. I've traveled extensively, this is in the top 3 worst Marriott properties I've stayed at, better accommodations at any of the low-end properties. Very disappointing!!! Oh, I forgot to mention I moved rooms 3 times and each time I was told it was an 'upgrade.' Which as a Titanium Elite member it's common to receive upgrades upon arrival. All 3 rooms were exactly the same size with the only variation being where the phone was inadvertently plugged in.

This is my experience and do with it what you want…read more I've always had good luck with Embassy Suites by Hilton. This place was a letdown in just about every way. Check-in was super easy as we didn't have to go to the front counter until later on in the evening to get physical cards for the other couples in our room. We got digital keys so we were able to go right up to our room and drop our things off. Before we do that, we normally take pictures of the room just in case there's incidentals or something else. With that being said, I will post pictures of my disappointment with this room. We paid over $250 a night for this room and we're staying 2 nights. The Master room had a King bed, and the second room has 2, I'm going to say double beds, they weren't Queens. There was plenty of room for clothes and what not. There was a small refrigerator along with a microwave. And of course, a coffee pot with coffee pods. There was a couple of bottles of water in the room, but at a cost of $6 if you used them. It was stated on them. The bathroom was tiny! For a room that can have 6 people in it. I wish the sink would have been outside of the toilet and shower area. The exhaust fan also didn't work in the bathroom so the humidity built up from taking a shower and some of the unpleasant odors stuck around. This room was in desperate need of updates! From the carpet being stretched out and written down, and the dusty encrusted cobwebs by the air vents on the ceiling. The tables being worn and wasn't even a chair at the desk in the king-sized bedroom. Most windows, you can open up a couple of inches, and there's a screen on them. Not these in both rooms, they were sealed and bolted shut\n Which kind of sucked in the master bedroom? Because there was no way to regulate the temperature in that room. The fitness area looked pretty decent. There was one couple in our group that did use it and didn't have any complaints. I did use the pool and I have to say, there was disappointment here too. The water itself was cloudy. I was in the five foot deep area and not able to see my feet. Also was extremely chlorinated. To the point where even with your eyes closed in the water, they still burned when you opened them out of the water. There was no shower in the pool area to rinse off before or after you swim. Their hotel bar is quaint, for lack of a better word. Be aware that they do not accept cash. So you either have to charge your room or pay with a credit card. I think the price is what you would expect to pay in a hotel. The mixed drinks were expensive, over ten dollars. But a bottle of Coor's Light was only seven dollars. Parking is right across the street in a parking garage. Dollar per hour or ten dollars per day One saving grace for this place is their complementary Happy Hour drink, and Continental breakfast. The Continental breakfast has a lot going on. You have your Toast, cereal, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage, French toast, (muffins, bagels, bread with a nice toaster set up) and a really good omelet station where you can get bacon! Prom was going on over the weekend we stayed, so there was a lot of underage kids there running around till late. There was an issue about 1 AM from a group of them fighting along the second and third floor balcony areas where several cops had to show up to break it up. I don't know what all came of it, I went back to sleep. I didn't interact with a lot of the staff, but the ones I did interact with were great. The bartender was hit-or-miss, but the omelet station lady was awesome. Guest services was good when we went to get keys made. Housekeeping didn't knock on the door the morning of checkout, we did online for that as well, before they entered the room. He just used his card key to come in in the morning to clean. We got to interrupted making our plans for the day.

We did NOT want to leave and return to the "land of responsibilities ". Our stay couldn't have been nicer. The staff are amazing, the buffet for breakfast is very lovely, and the restaurant is fantastic, affordable, and worth it, to not have to leave the hotel. The hotel is absolutely unique and beautiful on the inside, the staff are SO pleasant and they REALLY seem to to want you to have a great stay. We had a cozy one-night stay at this historic hotel. My husband and I stayed here on a Friday night…read moreas we were in town for a show at the Civic Center across the street. If you're wondering, I he Civic Center is a 3 minute walk away, and the Farmers Market is within walking distance, too. We checked in a little before 4pm with no problem. Check-in is normally at 4, but I requested an earlier arrival through the Marriott Bonvoy app. The lovely and stylish employee (Miya?) who checked us in gave us a quick run down on where things were located on the main floor and then we headed to elevator and to our room on the 7th floor. Upon entering the room it felt a little humid. Noticing the thermostat was on 72, I just turned it down a little. We weren't in the room long enough to notice any issues. Those came when we were going to bed. The room was cute and the perfect size for two people. I love the bedding and pillows and the lamps on the nightstands. There was a mini fridge, Keurig and overall I liked the decor. The nightstands were a little tired. The bathroom was the size of a closet - tiny. Our sink took at least 5 minutes to drain every time we used it. I didn't like how the light switch for the bathroom was on the outside of the bathroom. We moved the toilet paper to a more accessible spot. By the time we went to bed our room was warm and we couldn't turn down the thermostat below 65. Other reviews stated that the west side of the hotel has ongoing and known a/c issues and that was the side we were on. While the view was great (we could see the Civic Center and giant see saw art installation from our window), we slept horribly. I started to resent having paid $220 for a sweaty night sleep. In addition to the hot room, we could hear our neighbor cough, talk, etc. at different points. The walls are super thin. It could have been worse, for sure. We turned on our white noise machine. The 7th floor hallway did have some popcorn on the floor on Friday night. By the time we left on Saturday it was still there. Kind of surprised me given that housekeeping had to have seen it. I requested a 12pm check-out (also through the Marriott Bonvoy app), and at about 11:30am housekeeping came to the room, knocked, and let themselves in. He quickly apologized and said he hadn't gotten the message about our late check-out. No biggie, but it might have been awkward for others. Check-out is 11am, but the signage on the interior door of the bathroom says 12pm. See photo. I'm still giving The Savery 4/5 stars because I had a nice time and love vibe and history of the hotel. All staff we encountered were very friendly. Next time though, I'd request a room on the other side of the hotel, especially during the summer months when you want to run the a/c. Also, there is a parking garage across the street for $1/hour. We opted for the parking garage and somehow got out for free on Saturday without having to redeem our ticket. Not sure if the ramps are free on Saturdays, but they were this day. The hotel offers valet parking for $35. I recommend The Savery because of the location, overall vibe, amenities (they have a restaurant/bar for dinner, separate restaurant for breakfast, and offer Starbucks drinks in the mornings all for additional $$). This is not the cheapest hotel option, but we couldn't beat the convenience from the Civic Center. It's fairly close to the Iowa Event Center, too. Recommend. Just request a room that's on the east side of the building if you're staying during the summer and bring your white noise machine or earplugs.

It was an okay stay, nothing stood out as great. The bathrooms were tiny! If you aren't a petite…read moreperson you would have to sit sideways to use the toilet. Anyone over 6' beware! I'd assume if you were a larger person wide it would also be a challenge because of the distance to the wall on the side was also very tight. Everything else was fine it's a hotel. Rooms were good sized. Elevator doors were weirdly slow but not a big deal. Not bad for a night. Wouldn't want to be there a week.
