We stayed at the Hilton for a Father's Day Weekend getaway. We had stayed at this Hilton before, and it was actually the cheapest option for us on this trip, so we were happy to reserve a room again. I wanted to acknowledge Stephanie, the restaurant manager, for being very accommodating. She was filling in so the bartender could take a break, and brought our drinks out quickly. Was friendly and nice and even stayed to chat for a while, enjoying our conversation on why we were in town. We were using the mobile door key, and Stephanie even provided us with bottles of water since we are Silver members. On our second day, we had planned to go to a Cubs game, but it was delayed and raining, so we decided to have breakfast at a restaurant. JJ was our server, and she was prompt and friendly, providing everything we wanted, even offering us freshly-made omelets that we did not realize were part of the buffet. We each ordered the omelet, and the chef served it quickly, hot, fresh, and yummy. I also wanted to point out the assistant manager, Adam. We rode up to our room in the elevator with him; he was kind and friendly and asked about our stay and why we were in town. Kudos to Stephanie, Adam, and JJ for making our stay enjoyable with a great staff. The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, and I loved being on the 8th floor. Elevators were fast. I've been here at the Des Moines downtown Hilton hotel and am appalled at how terrible of a job their housekeeping did on our room after our first day. They did a terrible job with our beds- it looks like a kid did it or whoever did it just did a rush job and it's obvious they didn't try at all. The bathroom clearly wasn't touched at all. The sink still had a used hand towel and the surface wasn't wiped down, the trash wasn't changed, and all they did was swap out the floor bath towel. Our toilet still had marks from usage and they didn't clean it. Then the trash can in the living area was also not changed even though it was full, and our coffee supplies were not restocked. I tried to use the phones in the room to call room service and they didn't even work. So I had to call the front desk with my cell, and I was pissed- still am. Whoever did the housekeeping job for our room was awful. I'm not that harsh or picky with hotels but for Hilton, I expected much better service. We are Honors members as well. This is highly disappointing. The front desk sent an employee to restock our coffee bar and give us new towels, she didn't even apologize to me once. She asked me what trash needed to be changed, and then she put the bathroom trash can onto the bathroom sink to change it... and didn't wipe the sink down after. Then she left. Said nothing else, didn't ask if we needed anything. Made zero comments about anything. I wouldn't recommend staying here if their housekeeping service says anything about this specific Hilton. I barely complain about hotel service and am usually pretty understanding having worked in customer service myself, but this was absolutely not okay. They also promised us a room on the 8th floor and then changed us to the 4th floor hours into our check in day, and whoever was above our room was moving around/talking super loudly from 12am-6am, with spouts of coughing and puking. Not a huge deal for the noise since you can't control people, but now I'm pissed about housekeeping and want to rant about more. The plugs are also loose by the bedside tables/lamps, so your phone may not charge without you realizing until later. Overall- the housekeeping job, their service, as well as the attitude of the employee that came to the room after I complained to the front desk makes me wonder just how clean the hotel room really is. It's unprofessional and SO lazy. I do not recommend Hilton Des Moines Downtown. Edit: Next day after- I asked the front desk for the GM's card and talked to the front desk again about the housekeeping from yesterday. They apologized and I showed pictures and told them how the phones were also not working. Just got back to our room after having been gone all day, and when we left, they had people cleaning rooms in our hall at like 11am. It is 5pm now and they still haven't cleaned our room today. My brother saw one of the cleaners and he was just sitting in one of the other rooms on his phone not doing anything. I hate this hotel. Terrible service, unprofessional, and extremely lazy workers. I highly recommend going elsewhere like the Marriott. I expected much better from Hilton, especially being an Honors member. The walls are also very thin. Stayed here for a work conference that was across the street. We were able to access our building through the Sky Walk system (which is so cool, by the way). They have an indoor pool open til 10pm, but no jacuzzi. Gym open 24/7. Restaurant and bar in the lobby. There is also a free shuttle service that will take you anywhere within 2 miles, as well as to and from the airport! This was great for us. Great personnel and typical Hilton rooms. A bit pricey for what you get but very clean and cool hotel. I was very disappointed. I am an honors member. The front desk was not welcoming in a way that I am accustomed to. The room was just ok. When we requested room cleaning service It was sloppy. The entire hotel reeked of beef. I first thought someone was cooking in their room. When I ask about it, I was told that it was coming from the restaurant which led me to believe that the ventilation system was not working properly. The smell lingered all night which made a bit difficult to sleep. It was disgusting! At one-point there was an Oder that was SO bad in the hall on the 3rd floor that I thought I was going to be ill. There were also some problems with the charges as I was sharing the room with a friend, and they were having difficulties splitting bill. This is not a place I would go back to! read more

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Downtown Des Moines. The hotel itself was excellent--very clean, well-maintained, and staffed with friendly, attentive service. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a modern and well-designed bathroom. The shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water, though the showerhead could have used a cleaning as it appeared partially clogged. The hotel bar was a nice bonus--strong, well-made drinks and decent food made it a great spot to unwind. One of the best perks of this location is how walkable it is. You're within easy walking distance of several great restaurants, bars, and shops, and it's especially convenient if you're in town for the Des Moines Farmers Market when it's in season. The only real downside was the parking situation. While the hotel offers self-parking for $30/day, it's a bit frustrating. The small surface lot holds about 20 cars, and the underground garage--while larger--is incredibly tight. The layout is awkward, with many spaces blocked by concrete pillars and a dead-end row that's nearly impossible to back out of if the garage is full. Unless you're driving a compact car, parking can be a real challenge. Overall, we'd definitely stay again for the quality and convenience--just be prepared for tight parking or consider alternate transportation options. read more

On the fence about this one between 2 and 3 stars. Bed is pretty comfortable but shower head was old and half not working, water took forever to get warm and then got scalding hot, toilet got easily blocked and has no flush, and you have to take a shuttle to get any food or groceries past 5 (more of a statement about downtown Des Moines than anything). Also, TV regularly would stop working but that might be a direct tv issue. The food they have for in house dining was bland and unimpressive. All that said, staff were prompt and courteous and room seemed clean, other than window which need an outside cleaning pretty badly. Also, AC was good. Ultimately, I don't know what the alternatives are but if the most important thing to you is a comfortable bed and you don't care much about the rest then this is probably a good enough hotel for your needs. We were stuck in Des Moines overnight after our O'Hare flight diverted due to storms and our flight crew went illegal. Called for a HGI shuttle that was '2 minutes away', waited for half an hour and it's now 12:30 am. There just so happened to be a Hilton shuttle sitting there so we jumped in and headed downtown. Very happy we did. The property is immaculate. The room looked new and was super clean, beds were heavenly. Front desk folks and restaurant staff were personable and accommodating. Really liked that the breakfast was open until 11am, most hotels shut down at 9. The breakfast buffet was good with lots of hot/cold variety. My wife ordered the avocado toast w 2 poached eggs from the menu and she raved about it. Some of the hot buffet items had been sitting there for a while (pancakes and potatoes) but were quickly replaced when asked. Highly recommend this place if you ever need an overnight in DSM. read more

If you are attending a conference at the Iowa Events Center, the Hilton is a great place to stay. There is a Skywalk that connects the Iowa Events Center to the Hilton so you don't actually have to step outside especially when it is cold outside. Overall, the hotel was comfortable, clean, and modernized. The staff was extremely friendly. However, there's no room service after 10pm. If you want to eat after 10pm, you'll have to use Uber Eats, Doordash, etc. It looked like the bar in the lobby area was quite vibrant in the evening. I did like that there was a shuttle that took me back to the airport. I was advised by the hotel that it runs every 30 minutes. I would imagine that you could probably also take this shuttle from the airport too but didn't experience this first hand. read more

Staff was nice to accommodate a room change. First room was next to elevator and we didn't want all the noise. We have stayed here several times before because location is great. Other than that, upgrades/ renovations need completed asap! Our new room has holes in the curtains and looks like windows have never been cleaned on the outside. Also does not smell good. We've stayed here many times and as Diamond members have been pretty happy and chose this location for the convenience. We ate multiple times in the dining room for breakfast and dinner as well as bar area. I must say Olivia has horrible customer service and we were disappointed each and every time she was the bartender on duty. She was rude and this evening she was gone from the bar and I stood there for 20 min waiting for her to return. While I was waiting a couple came up and sat down and just then Olivia returned and didn't even acknowledge me or ask who was first or anything and tended to the couple and still ignored me. Previously I wanted a hot chocolate and she said "that's closed" but the other bartender happily made hot drinks for people. She sadly ruined our experience and stay for the week. Other hotel staff very friendly I would suggest additional training for Olivia because she greatly lacks the service element. read more

I attended a conference at the Iowa Events Center and stayed in the attached Hilton. The event center is beautiful! It's a little easy to get lost (it's a very large space) but the all-in-one convenience can't be beat if you're only in town for work (with little time to explore). I was here as a guest, not host, so I can't speak on the conference planning but did enjoy the service and set-up. The skywalk makes it very easily accessible from the hotel. Breakfast options (at the Hilton) included either a buffet for $20+ or quick order at the Park Street Coffee Bar (the bar/seating located near registration). I opted for the latter and got a breakfast sandwich with a hashbrown and drink. It was pricey ($13), so if you're hungry, just get the buffet! The egg was deliciously runny and it was clearly not just a microwaved meal. We also had the opportunity to have a nice meal at Park Street Kitchen with industry partners. We started off with a round of fried pickles (which were tasty). For entrees, I went simple. I got the 435 Burger and fries. It was good enough. Nothing extraordinary but it fit the bill. I stayed in the Hilton Des Moines Downtown for a wedding last weekend. Had a wonderful stay - concierge was pleasant and helpful. Loved the ability to park in a heated underground garage - the car stayed nice and warm and it was nice to know it was safe! The onsite dining was delicious - loved the morning breakfast and the ability to get Starbucks - hello iced brown sugar shaken espresso! Our hotel room was clean and well supplied. The bedding/ pillows were cozy - wish I had pillows like that at home! At night we heard strange noises outside (possibly wind?), but with closing the curtains the sound lessened. Great stay and will definitely stay again if attending future events in Des Moines! read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. I will never stay at this hotel again. I am a 58 year old baseball coach staying there for a tournament in Des Moines. I will be spreading the word in Omaha around the baseball and softball organizations about the absolutely horrible experience we had. The two men that were working that night, one being the night manage, were less than welcoming and be honest could have handled the situation much differently. We were having a drink that we brought with us at the only place available to do it, on the patio. It was all adults just talking, trying to relax. We were told to take our drinks to our room. While all day long a very large wedding was carrying around opened busch light bottles I saw them take out of a cooler they brought. I guess the more you spend the more the rules change. Unacceptable. I will be using this review on every social media site I can find on your location. This past week end, we played in a tournament in Kansas City. We did the same thing we attempted at your location and not 1 word was said to us. We enjoyed ourselves and able to relax. They will be getting a outstanding rating unlike you. Stayed here for the Des Moines marathon. it was right next door to packet pick up. and a short walk to the start line. we got to use the VIP lounge and had a great breakfast. the room was great, very clean. we also hung out in the lobby and watched the ball game on their large TV. the staff was friendly from start to finish. read more

Place said no outside food and I don't know if I look extremely innocent or what but I brought in a giant bag of popcorn and when I say giant that thing weighs like 10 pounds anyway they didn't even say anything (I'm eating popcorn while writing this review lol) 3. It's a very clean and convenient hotel being attached to the skywalk. It was my first time in Des Moines so I didn't know about the skywalk, but it's a great way to get around in the colder months. The bartender Josh was great giving me ideas of what to do while in town. The cocktails were creative and original. The front desk was also very friendly. I wish the bar had more food options but the loaded tots (tatchos) were sooooo tasty! Definitely recommend staying here. Reasonable rates and nice rooms with comfy beds. The food from Park Street Bar and Lounge is quite exceptional! Getting their room service has been the best part of my days' stay here. So far, my favorite dishes are the farro and grain bowl and the wedge salad with the candied bacon! Yum yum!! They have very pleasant staff, good toiletries, clean rooms. Great pressure in the shower and water gets steamy quickly. The only negative critiques I would have is that parking isn't free ($18 for self, $25 valet...per night) and there's no morning complementary coffee. Reviewing solely the restaurant and the lobby/public areas. I came here for the first time for Anime Iowa convention since some sessions and the events were held here. Staff were respectful and I was impressed by the clean, modern and spacious facility. The first time I ate at the restaurant , my sandwich was burnt. The management was so nice and told me they would take care of the next meal. Next time I came in, they took care of the meal and made sure I had a great experience. I had a super delicious roast beef sandwich that had nice deli meat similar to an east coast deli. The tomato bisque was so delicious! I would love to have this meal and eat here again. I've been staying here for 5 days now and I would just have to stay the customer service SUCKS!!!! I am only giving this place a 2 star because of how nice, clean and modern the overall hotel is. The room was very nice, I got a room with a king size bed and the bathroom were nice with walk-in shower and light up mirrors. The gym and pool area was also very nice. My first bad encounter was when I checked in I politely asked if they had a student discount and the man without even checking told me no and that I had the "lowest price" he's seen all night. Ok whatever moving on.. My second bad encounter was when I called down to ask if there was a microwave anywhere that I can warm up my food (that I purchased from this hotel via room service the other night) and Julia told me that it would cost me $25 to rent a microwave for a day, she then transferred me to the front desk who transferred me back to Julia and she then told me since I brought the food from the hotel then yes I can have it warmed up and told me to bring it to the bar. First of all, I shouldn't have to leave my room to do that..but I did anyways and proceeded to go downstairs to wait and had to wait because Julia wasn't behind the bar and the bartenders didn't have a clue why she would send me there because there isn't a microwave behind the bar!!! The bartender then had to grab the kitchen manager and he had the nerve to ask me if the food was from the hotel even thought it was literally on a plate and metal lid that they use for room service and not in a to go box!!!! A women that I encountered at the bar even said herself that renting a microwave was ridiculous and you can buy a microwave for that price which she is totally right! And apparently only suites have microwaves. Also a simple gesture like that, is something that shouldn't have been a hassle in the first place. My third bad encounter was again checking out, the same man that checked me in..he was not polite at all and didn't even crack a smile and when he asked how everything was and I replied just OK he didn't bother to ask why and just asked if I wanted a copy of my recipe and sent me on my way. Beside the horrible customer service, the rooms are connected between 2 doors that are locked and the walls are paper thin that I could hear the whole conversation from the room next door. I also didn't like that room service only comes to the room to make the bed and refill the shampoo/conditioner..I had an ironing board and iron laying on the floor for days and I would think that they would of picked it up and put it where it belongs? Another thing is the parking..it cost $18 a day to park in their underground parking lot (that is very tight in spaces)! Also you have to use the key card to get in and out of the lot and the thing to scan it is so far away that every time I have to get in and out of the parking lot I have to unbuckle my seat belt and even open the door! It very inconvenient and they should make it an easier way for guests to use it. I personally think that they are overcharging their guests and when I come back to Des Moines, I will not be paying and staying here again for the price and service that I got this week. read more

Awesome updated hotel downtown, close to the highway. This hotel is very new and modern. The price isn't cheap but when you see this place, you'll understand why. My room also had a great view of downtown, which was nice. The staff were all very nice as well. Returning this evening to realize the garage is unavailable to paying Hilton customers because the spots were sold to the public for a nearby concert. They knew this concert was taking place and chose to lie to their customers and pretend garage parking was available. I stayed over 1 night for a work event, so I didn't have a say in where we stayed. It's a new hotel, so it was nice. I felt like everything was dark, the halls, the lobby, the room (even with the lights). I didn't feel the bathroom's light was bright enough for makeup. They did have a light up make up mirror, so that was helpful. We utilized the complimentary shuttle service to take us down to Court avenue for dinner and then called to have them pick us up. I will start with the complimentary shuttle service from the airport running every 30 min. You can tell the hotel has been updated and is apart of the downtown area. With a nice bar (I didn't partake this go around) and a lounge for those with status complaints are just superficial and based on my stays at other hotels. First I must highlight the 24 hour gym and pool (which is not 24 hours) located on the 3rd floor. With no doubt this equipment is new and even boasted the versa runner which was fantastic being I'm at the start of my marathon training . The breakfast left alot to be desired only boasting bacon eggs and a few pastries. Likewise the evening reception was bleak with very little offered in the way of food. On the plus the lounge always stayed stocked with juices/soda/water for a quick grab and go if I ordered out or brought food back. The room had a fridge but no microwave but the room is very spacious and comfortable which ranks high on my list. So for a Hilton it is/was average but I will close by saying I travel daily and am a Diamond Hilton member (who has stayed in on alot of Hilton properties) so what I may consider above average in Hiltons portfolio another may say is excellent . read more

Honestly was wondering what I'd do when in Des Moines but this hotel made my stay so pleasant! Its a very new property so it was furnished in a more mid century modern aesthetic. The weekend I went happened to be a nearly booked out weekend and what impressed me the most was that the front desk person who checked me in remembered my name! Remembering someone's name can go a long way and I genuinely appreciated that gesture. The amenities at this hotel are great. It has one of the best hotel gyms I've ever been in. When traveling alone, you've got nothing but time so I definitely utilized the gym well during this stay. There's also a pool right next door so don't forget to bring a swimsuit! The hotel is also connected to the skywalk on the second floor so you can walk to pretty much anywhere around town and is conveniently located near great food spots! The hotel's restaurant is actually pretty great so if you don't feel like going out, you can get breakfast, lunch and dinner here! read more

The bar staff was unfriendly and would attempt to ignore you as you waited at the bar for a drink. Beers and drinks were $11-$14 each. Lighting could be improved (or made brighter). Friendly staff. Parking available both outside and in the garage. A bit pricey, especially for Des Moines. Rooms are modern and tasteful. Big thumbs up. Great location next to convention center and the arena, but otherwise a bit of a walk to the "touristy" parts of the city. read more

It's crazy to think of all of the travel I do, and this hotel is one of the nicest Hilton's I've stayed at. There's a free shuttle from the airport, and it's only about a 10 minute drive. Walking in, you're greeted by a grand lobby area with lots of seating, televisions, restaurant, and bar area. I selected a room on the 8th floor (top), and other than a few nearby doors - I thought I had the floor to myself. The room and hotel in general is very quiet, as they even keep the ice machines behind closed doors. The room itself was plenty big, with USB ports all over the place. I also had access to the executive lounge on the first floor. There were enough drinks and d'oeuvres available, that I didn't even need to head out for dinner. The space was nicely done, and again - I almost had the entire room to myself. Additionally, the wifi in the lounge was better than the free internet in my room. Although I don't see myself coming back to Des Moines anytime soon - this is the place to stay. read more

Very nice and clean. At least the first day. I stayed for 5 nights and never once were my sheets changed and trash was just left in the room. Sometime it seemed like all they did was tuck my sheet back in. I ate at the small table area and spilled a little sauce that I tried to clean up. Next day after my meetings I came back and put my office paperwork there and the sticky mess wasn't even touched one bit. When I asked for a Cabernet they automatically brought me the more expensive option. Would have been nice of them to ask if I wanted to spend $20 on one glass of wine before it was brought to my door. For the price I paid per night I really expected more. read more
