Stayed here for a couple nights because I was attending a conference at the Iowa Events Center. The conference lodging was booked and I wanted to still be close. This was a great choice! I walked the first day, drove the second (only because I had checked out). It wasn't a terrible walk (though it was up a really big hill), in dress clothes/shoes, and I saw other professionals making the same commute alongside me. I am a lover of history and maximalist decor so I loved everything about this unique space. The service was also great. My room was plenty spacious for me to relax and work. No complaints. Charming. I also really liked that there are MANY food options within walking distance at all hours of the day, and I was able to do some exploring without needing a car. I will look into staying here again next time I need something in this area.

    Spacious room.

I stayed one night here for a work event, apparently if you stay on the west side, the HVAC has issues. It was mid April and I was sweating in my room and couldn't turn it down. That's just the way it is here apparently they told us they are aware of the issue. Pretty unacceptable for a hotel in my opinion. Otherwise the facility appeared quite nice, good central downtown location, walkable area. My room was clean and spacious and quite comfortable thankfully. Quality shower and good pressure. The staff was hit and miss, I crossed paths with a very unpleasant person and then a couple very friendly folks. I think I'll go somewhere else next time if I have a choice.

Stayed here for one night on a layover and I honestly hope I never have to stay here again. Went up to the room they assigned to me and it was TINY!!!!!! It was a corner room with two windows and all I saw out of those windows were buildings. Made me feel VERY claustrophobic. Couldn't stay there so I went and asked to switch rooms. All they had was an accessible room so they gave me that. It was 3 times the size of the original room they gave me and I had a view so that was good. The bathroom didn't have a shower door and everything was exposed. Water went EVERYWHERE!! Not to mention that when you turned on the water it took literally about five minutes for it to get hot. And when I say five minutes, I mean the long five minutes. Not good if you're in a rush! There isn't a microwave in the room so you have to go downstairs and use the one in the pantry. Not a big deal, just inconvenient. Not all rooms have a fridge but you can request one. Tho if you get one of those tiny rooms I don't know where they'd put it. The only thing I loved was the bed. Very comfortable and I slept like a baby.

Nicely updated hotel! The lobby is cute with 2 restaurants. The desk was welcoming, check in/check out procedure was painless. The room faced the courtyard so it was very quiet. There was a separate space for the coffee bar, separate sitting room for TV watching, bedroom area. The bathroom was small but clean and has a fantastic shower. Parking is the ramp across the street, about $10 without re-entering privilege but the area is compact and very walkable so there's really not need to use a car. There's ample parking on the street, meters are no enforced Sundays.

The employees at this hotel went over and beyond helping me in making my event successful. They actually went out of their way to making me smile and for that, I tipped some of these fantastic people. If you find your way to this hotel, ask these people for any help: Ross AV (so helpful when it comes to AV) Veronica in catering (always has a smile on her face) Jonah registration Edwin and Robert - hotel drivers (super guys and so friendly) Veronica catering

Stayed here for last two nights on a road trip that took us to Iowa state fair. The location is great for the sleepy downtown. The restaurant scene is emerging here. The nightlife was also fun . We managed to attend the state fair and the farmers market which were both great events. The hotel is on the historic register and has a great deal of charm and character. Too bad for the guests it is not up kept. The hallways are littered with trash , and debris. The light boxes are all cracked in the hallway. No one loves this hotel it seems not even the people that work here. We came with low expectations anyhow based on its location. They don't offer street parking 1.00 hr garage parking. We were told at the front desk that they didn't offer maid service unless you call and schedule it. I took photos of the litter in the hall , I saw not one but two housekeepers and neither could be bothered to clean the debris which is still here day two. The housekeeper was singing a church song dancing in the hall with ear buds in her ears. I was embarrassed for this hotel at the level of port service of their staff . No wonder you need to schedule your room clean had to fit in between the concerts and dance offs in the hall way . The bar was supposed to be open until midnight at 1030 was closed down. No fridge in rooms. Bathroom missing tiles. Was a definite disappointment and will never return here. We weren't expecting a high end hotel , but it helps when people make an effort. Price was 200. Night ... half off that price would have been too high. Perhaps once you train your housekeeping staff on care of your building and ownership to their role people will then get the service they pay for and come to expect. No

My word of advice: Pay Attention to the Room type that you select when booking. Room size matters here! I've stayed here twice. The first time I was upgraded into a corner king suite. I LOVED IT!!!! My room had a hallway, two closets, nice corner sofa, plenty of room, a separate room with bathroom. It was nice! The second time I stayed was a couple weeks ago and my room was just a king room. It was a standard king room, nothing to write home about. The beds here are very comfy though. The bathrooms are all very small, however. I stayed on club floor (11th floor) and had access to the club lounge which was very nice. The staff here are all very friendly and accommodating. This is VALET ONLY which is $25 a day so you've been warned. I ate dinner once at Coda, the lobby bar, and my food was pretty good. I had the lasagna and was given complimentary chips and dip. I'd definitely stay here again. This is in a prime location downtown, right across the street from a plaza (sorry I don't know the name) where there are often activities going on.

They said they renovated the place, but it was hard to tell what they did. It had an overall cheap feel to it and the staff seemed to have no clue on how to answer even the most basic answers. Not sure what the problem here is? New staff? Lack of money? Go down the street to the full service Marriott you will be taken care of much better

I stayed at this hotel for a week in July.I cannot say enough nice things about this hotel. The best part of this hotel was not only the amazing ambiance, but the amazing customer service. This hotel made our stay unbelievable. The shuttle drivers were so incredibly nice to all of us.We attended the Cheese Conference.Upon arriving at the hotel the first day,the front desk associate,Maddie, upgraded our room because she saw that we were having quite a rough day.Her kindness and generosity made my stay so incredibly nice. The other front desk clerk who was extremely nice was I believe his name is Gavin. He was a tall blonde fella who was always eager to help. The hotel itself is very clean and nice.If you are thinking of staying in Des Moines, stay at the Renaissance Savery Hotel. You wont regret it.

They have an indoor pool open til 10pm, but no jacuzzi. Gym open 24/7. Restaurant and bar in the lobby. Our only bummer was when we first checked in, the worker was not very friendly to me. Otherwise great stay!

I've been here at the Des Moines downtown Hilton hotel and am appalled at how terrible of a job…read moretheir housekeeping did on our room after our first day. They did a terrible job with our beds- it looks like a kid did it or whoever did it just did a rush job and it's obvious they didn't try at all. The bathroom clearly wasn't touched at all. The sink still had a used hand towel and the surface wasn't wiped down, the trash wasn't changed, and all they did was swap out the floor bath towel. Our toilet still had marks from usage and they didn't clean it. Then the trash can in the living area was also not changed even though it was full, and our coffee supplies were not restocked. I tried to use the phones in the room to call room service and they didn't even work. So I had to call the front desk with my cell, and I was pissed- still am. Whoever did the housekeeping job for our room was awful. I'm not that harsh or picky with hotels but for Hilton, I expected much better service. We are Honors members as well. This is highly disappointing. The front desk sent an employee to restock our coffee bar and give us new towels, she didn't even apologize to me once. She asked me what trash needed to be changed, and then she put the bathroom trash can onto the bathroom sink to change it... and didn't wipe the sink down after. Then she left. Said nothing else, didn't ask if we needed anything. Made zero comments about anything. I wouldn't recommend staying here if their housekeeping service says anything about this specific Hilton. I barely complain about hotel service and am usually pretty understanding having worked in customer service myself, but this was absolutely not okay. They also promised us a room on the 8th floor and then changed us to the 4th floor hours into our check in day, and whoever was above our room was moving around/talking super loudly from 12am-6am, with spouts of coughing and puking. Not a huge deal for the noise since you can't control people, but now I'm pissed about housekeeping and want to rant about more. The plugs are also loose by the bedside tables/lamps, so your phone may not charge without you realizing until later. Overall- the housekeeping job, their service, as well as the attitude of the employee that came to the room after I complained to the front desk makes me wonder just how clean the hotel room really is. It's unprofessional and SO lazy. I do not recommend Hilton Des Moines Downtown. Edit: Next day after- I asked the front desk for the GM's card and talked to the front desk again about the housekeeping from yesterday. They apologized and I showed pictures and told them how the phones were also not working. Just got back to our room after having been gone all day, and when we left, they had people cleaning rooms in our hall at like 11am. It is 5pm now and they still haven't cleaned our room today. My brother saw one of the cleaners and he was just sitting in one of the other rooms on his phone not doing anything. I hate this hotel. Terrible service, unprofessional, and extremely lazy workers. I highly recommend going elsewhere like the Marriott. I expected much better from Hilton, especially being an Honors member. The walls are also very thin. 1 Star Hotel with 5 Star Staff…read more Truly perplexed on this one. As a frequent traveler, sleep is the priority when selecting a hotel. Typically higher end or signature hotels offer a premium experience, enrapturing an environment conducive to a home away from home. Not here..... Key points: 1. Before making it to the front door, propositioned to accommodate persons living on the street. 2. Parking: Be prepared to navigate the maze if you utilize the underground parking, NOT located in the same building. Regardless, you will need to walk outside after paying $32 dollars to self-park whether in the underground garage or adjacent lot exposed to the elements. 3. Temperatures outside below freezing, inside could not get the room under what I would guess is 72-75 degrees. Cranked down thermostat, which indicated 63F, but I'm here to tell you, if I'm lying on the bed uncovered and sweating, it's not 63 degrees. The super awesome front desk clerk brought new keys so I could move rooms at 11:30 PM. Yeah, the new room had the same issue. Something is up with the heating and air, don't perceive there's autonomy in room temp...... As you can see in the picture, set on 60 and claims 67. Again, I typically don't sweat at 67 degrees uncovered. 4. If you like trains, you'll love this place, they come through several times a night in between sirens from local emergency responders. 5. Wear shoes at all times. It hurts when you step on the nail head coming up through the rug. 6. Holy towels if you're a person of faith. Quite airy! In summary, if you manage to drink enough from the overpriced mini bar you might get some rest. If you just want a good place to sleep and possibly even get a complimentary bottle of water on check-in, you'll need to go anywhere else. I've traveled extensively, this is in the top 3 worst Marriott properties I've stayed at, better accommodations at any of the low-end properties. Very disappointing!!! Oh, I forgot to mention I moved rooms 3 times and each time I was told it was an 'upgrade.' Which as a Titanium Elite member it's common to receive upgrades upon arrival. All 3 rooms were exactly the same size with the only variation being where the phone was inadvertently plugged in.

This is my experience and do with it what you want…read more I've always had good luck with Embassy Suites by Hilton. This place was a letdown in just about every way. Check-in was super easy as we didn't have to go to the front counter until later on in the evening to get physical cards for the other couples in our room. We got digital keys so we were able to go right up to our room and drop our things off. Before we do that, we normally take pictures of the room just in case there's incidentals or something else. With that being said, I will post pictures of my disappointment with this room. We paid over $250 a night for this room and we're staying 2 nights. The Master room had a King bed, and the second room has 2, I'm going to say double beds, they weren't Queens. There was plenty of room for clothes and what not. There was a small refrigerator along with a microwave. And of course, a coffee pot with coffee pods. There was a couple of bottles of water in the room, but at a cost of $6 if you used them. It was stated on them. The bathroom was tiny! For a room that can have 6 people in it. I wish the sink would have been outside of the toilet and shower area. The exhaust fan also didn't work in the bathroom so the humidity built up from taking a shower and some of the unpleasant odors stuck around. This room was in desperate need of updates! From the carpet being stretched out and written down, and the dusty encrusted cobwebs by the air vents on the ceiling. The tables being worn and wasn't even a chair at the desk in the king-sized bedroom. Most windows, you can open up a couple of inches, and there's a screen on them. Not these in both rooms, they were sealed and bolted shut\n Which kind of sucked in the master bedroom? Because there was no way to regulate the temperature in that room. The fitness area looked pretty decent. There was one couple in our group that did use it and didn't have any complaints. I did use the pool and I have to say, there was disappointment here too. The water itself was cloudy. I was in the five foot deep area and not able to see my feet. Also was extremely chlorinated. To the point where even with your eyes closed in the water, they still burned when you opened them out of the water. There was no shower in the pool area to rinse off before or after you swim. Their hotel bar is quaint, for lack of a better word. Be aware that they do not accept cash. So you either have to charge your room or pay with a credit card. I think the price is what you would expect to pay in a hotel. The mixed drinks were expensive, over ten dollars. But a bottle of Coor's Light was only seven dollars. Parking is right across the street in a parking garage. Dollar per hour or ten dollars per day One saving grace for this place is their complementary Happy Hour drink, and Continental breakfast. The Continental breakfast has a lot going on. You have your Toast, cereal, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage, French toast, (muffins, bagels, bread with a nice toaster set up) and a really good omelet station where you can get bacon! Prom was going on over the weekend we stayed, so there was a lot of underage kids there running around till late. There was an issue about 1 AM from a group of them fighting along the second and third floor balcony areas where several cops had to show up to break it up. I don't know what all came of it, I went back to sleep. I didn't interact with a lot of the staff, but the ones I did interact with were great. The bartender was hit-or-miss, but the omelet station lady was awesome. Guest services was good when we went to get keys made. Housekeeping didn't knock on the door the morning of checkout, we did online for that as well, before they entered the room. He just used his card key to come in in the morning to clean. We got to interrupted making our plans for the day.
