We had such a good time at Embers Candle Bar and I am so happy we picked this one for our anniversary activity. We booked a session in advance to make a custom candle together. As soon as we entered the place, it had a very calm and welcoming vibe. The space smelled amazing just like walking into a Middle Eastern perfume shop. The staff greeted us right away, and they were super friendly. They gave us a quick overview of how everything worked and let us take our time exploring all the scent options - 66 to be precise.. crazy right!! We spent a good amount of time smelling different oils and trying to figure out which ones worked well together - our picks were Moonflower, Palo Santo, Bourbon and blackberry suede. It was really fun trying different combinations and picking our fav ones. PS: if you like a strong smelling candle then consider keeping blackberry suede fragrance oil as your base oil. Once we picked our favs, we got to mix them and pour our candle, it was simple but it felt very thoughtful and relaxing. We ended up choosing the 24-ounce candle, which was $54. They also had smaller candles starting at $16, and some room sprays that were around $20. Honestly, for the experience and the quality, the pricing was really cost effective. Apart from selling their signature candles, the bar had various gift options as well like journals, soap bars, earrings etc. I loved every little thing they had to offer. Loved how my day was made extra special with no pressure or rushing - just a chill afternoon doing something memorable together. I'd definitely go back again. This was such a fun group outing! I was in a group of ladies (ages ranging from 13 to 65) and we planned a girls day. We ate and shopped around downtown Lee's Summit before our appointment time at Embers (highly recommend an appointment, they are very busy). The staff are super helpful and nice. The instructions were clear and understandable. I also enjoyed the variety of jars/methods you can choose from. Don't want a candle? No problem they have wax melts or oil diffusers and other alternatives. They also have a huge selection of scents to choose from. The only downfall is it can get a smidge crowded, but that doesn't bother me. I also felt the pricing was very reasonable. Great spot for a girls day out! Very cozy, organized and well decorated space. It was really fun to choose my own blend and staff were very helpful with making suggestions for scent blends. The price points of candles were reasonable considering you are paying for an experience and not just a product. The only thing I would add is to have some coffee beans available as a palate cleanser for smelling so many different things. My husband and I made reservations here for a Saturday afternoon. It was busy and all of the tables were full with groups so I would recommend making a reservation ahead. The staff there walked through each of the steps with us. First, you choose what you want your candle in, then the scents. We kept things simple and only chose 2 scents for our candles. You can add more if you would like. From there, you take the scent oils to your table and stir them together. The staff will then bring you the wax and you stir the oils in the wax. They take your candles to cool and you return in a few hours to pick them up. I really enjoyed the experience. I did find that I couldn't really smell my candle after burning it at home (cashmere and Flannel). Staff were very helpful and I would recommend this experience for date nights or a girls night out. read more

LOVE IT!!! It was an activity for my 11 year old and I. What a great idea! You are welcomed by an associate (super nice.) She explained the process: Take a clipboard and use the page attached to help navigate you to your end product. Which candle holder? What size? And maybe even what color? Then the scents... 3 shelves stocked with tany jars that look like large lip balms. Start smelling and taking notes. Consult with the employees at the end and they will help you narrow down the scents of your candle. We smelled. We took notes. We eliminated and made decisions. We mixed the proper amount of oils to our desired smell. We stirred our scent into the hot wax. We named our scent. We decorated our label. It was a really cool experience. Both adult and child enjoyed it and now we are home from vacation with two candles we can burn at anytime that will remind us of our vacation and this experience together. read more

This is my second visit to Embers, which is a testament unto itself, I guess. I'd made a candle there ~ 6 months ago, and I liked it so much -- and accidentally let it burn too long and used it up -- that I made a sojourn back to Lee's Summit for a remake. The staff are all friendly and helpful, and will walk you through the process, which is simple: Pick your scents, pick your container, mix your essential oils, stir your oils into the soya wax candle for 2 minutes. Then you let the candle cure while strolling around the lovely Lee's Summit shopping district (get ice cream!) and come back. Voilá! Masterpiece. Only downvoted because the staff have been made to suffer without A/C for two weeks after lightening struck, and the whole experience is literally 10 minutes if you know what you're doing. This was a fun experience that was worth the price! When you come in for an appointment you get to sniff all of these different scents. Out of probably 40+ choices you got to pick 2-4 scents that you would like to turn into a candle. Now if you are an indecisive person like me.. it's fun, but also a tad bit stressful (in a great way) because you want to use everything! The staff their were extremely helpful on giving us tips on how to decide if the different scents were good partners with each other. Beyond that we were able to choose and mix ourselves the exact amount of each even we wanted in our candle! Upon visiting, I was even more pleased. We booked a two hour time frame to come in, choose our containers, decide on a mixture of scents, and then custom make our own candle. The staff was very helpful. It was such a fun thing to do and even more fun to take home. You get a slight discount on your next trip if you bring back the container after burning the candle at home. Allow several hours for the candle to set upon finishing, so plan to have lunch or walk around the cute little downtown area of Lees Summit while you wait. What a fun place! I love this candle bar. I've made 3 candles here so far and I'm sure I'll be back. First, you pick your scent options. Then you pick your jar (there are different sizes which determines what price you pay). Next, you get to blend your scents and pour them into the jar with wax. After a few hours, your candle is ready for pick-up! Is it a little pricey? For a candle... yes. But is it worth it for the fun and experience of customizing your own perfect candle? Also yes. Has a cute ambience but customer service was terrible. We made a reservation for 3:30 and was told that the latest we could show up was 3:40. Showed up at 3:40 and told that we couldn't be "fit" in, even though we had a reservation. One employee even acted shocked about the fact that a appointment was scheduled for that time, when we called prior in the day to confirm, and also when this reservation was booked weeks in advance. When my friends and I (the 50% black half of the group) walked in, we felt extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. Once the other half showed up, they were shown kindness and very apologetic for the mishap. No one greeted the first half of the group which was predominately black, even after one party member told a staff member we were waiting for the birthday party. My friends and I were waiting to use the restroom and could hear employees snickering about our party and how they were about to kick us out for "no availability" when yet again, we had a reservation and had called prior in the day to confirm and the store was empty. For a store that was empty and needing business, they were not accommodating to future customers at all. Obviously communication is lacking between employees in this store, or just a lack of professionalism all around. read more

My boyfriend and I came in on Saturday without reservations! The shop was empty so it was very nice to have the whole store to ourselves. You're greeted and given a clipboard to keep track of the scents you like. You'll first see a wall of the available jars. There was a decent sized variety to choose from. The smallest jars ( around 8oz) Cary around $20, while the more intricate jars cost around $35. We settled on two 12oz candles and spent about $70, but the experience was worth it! There was around 50 different scents to choose from! Once you've picked all the scents you like( I had 17 ) you'll meet with the mixer and can pick three of your favorite scents to go into your candle ( only complaint would be you can only choose 3). The experience took as about an hour, but keep in mind we had the stores to ourselves. Also keep in mind you'll have to allow approx 2 hours up to a day for your candle to cure. Wow. There are a ton of different scents and candle sizes to choose from. The employees are extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They help you figure out what scents work together so you can customize yours to what you want. And, if you don't like how things are going, the employees are excellent at making adjustments to get you a scent you love. I made a Mexican Hazelnut Hot Chocolate candle and it's amazing. The candles are very high quality, highly scented, and have great burn times. I'm very much looking forward to my next visit! read more

Oh my gosh, this place is so much fun! It's an amazing place to go pick out a hand-poured pre-made candle or make your own! They have a wall full of scents ranging from leather to milk stout, and many fun seasonal ones! If you're interested in making your own candle you take a clipboard and go along the wall writing down scents that you really like. Once you have your scents you pick a candle jar (you can also make wax melts, diffuser scent, and room spray). You then make your way over to the candle bar where the mixologists help you come up with the perfect pairing of scents. The pairing of scents can sometimes surprise you... My first candle was coconut, peppermint bark, and whipped cream! You then combine scent oils to your preference. The scent oils are then mixed with the candle base, you give it a stir, slap on a custom label that you make, and you're done! It takes about an hour and a half for the candle to set up and cure, so plan accordingly, you may want to go grab some lunch! I've purchased three candles so far, two of them are Christmas presents. They also offer gift cards which would make a great present as well. The store itself is adorable and the staff is so helpful! The candles have a decent burn time and they are heavily scented, I can smell each scent that I put in my candle which is really cool! read more
