My husband is a new ERAU grad student, so we visited the campus while in Florida for our vacation. The campus is beautiful and very impressive. It was summertime when we were there, meaning school wasn't in session. So not a lot happening on campus. Staff that we've had contact with so far is very knowlegable and approachable. This program is online, so creating a sense of community virtually is extremely important, especially when your class is small and living across the country. I'm very excited to learn more about the university through my husband, now that the semester has started. It's hard to beat the aviation environment of this university, and it's location next to the Daytona Beach international Airport. However I do not feel that my degree Carried it's weight in the aviation industry after graduating nearly over 25 years ago! Apart from the aeronautical science and engineering programs, I feel like my degree in business was worthless after graduating. After trying to get a few jobs after graduating I was turned down for lack of experience which tells me that Embry Riddle doesn't carry its weight in the industry. Some of my favorite classes were marketing, speech, and doing my executive aircraft feasibility study, The teachers for the most part were very pleasant and knowledgeable! Don't waste your money do you not use your G.I. bill If you were transitioning soldier, thinking the Embry Riddle skill bridge program is worth doing, the instructors are trash, and you will take nothing from this course, and you will lose a good chunk of your G.I. bill for a garbage six week course. I'm not a student here nor did I attend this University. So you're probably wondering how I decided to give it 5 stars. During the summer, I attended a conference here for STEM education. I stayed in one of the dorm rooms, which were a bit on the dingy side. There were stains and mold in the rooms, but I know that they had some flooding issues and still repairing stuff. I don't know what the other dorm rooms look like, so I can't compare. Plus I'm not reviewing the dorms or the food at the Student Center. I'm reviewing the campus as a place of study and the willingness of all the students and professors to help out STEM education. Upon arrival, the ERAU staff made sure that each of the conference attendees were welcomed and needs were met. If our rooms didn't have any linens, the student staff was on it and they were knocking on your door within 5 minutes with linens and towels. The campus is small so there's no need to worry that you will get lost. Plus if you do happen to get lost, any one on campus is willing to help you find your way. I had a chance to speak with professors and students while I was there and they all seemed to have a great working relationship. The students want to be there and the professors are there to teach the students. ERAU isn't a research university so that means that the professors can focus more of their time on teaching rather than researching. The campus is constantly filled with the sounds of aircrafts flying above. You can go for a flight or two with some of the students who are studying aviation. If you are looking to study anything dealing with aerospace, aeronautical, or some sort of engineering, this school is definitely worth checking out. read more

Yay for Embry-Riddle! Well, I didn't go here, but I basically grew up here as my father was on staff for about 10 years here. I frequntly spent long summer days using the computer labs, hanging by the pool, making friends at the dorms, and generally pretending to be a college student. So what was my experience? The Good: Beautiful campus: The buildings were all renovated recently after being basically destroyed after a series of tornadoes/hurricanes, but the buildings have always been beautiful, and the campus is very well-designed and easy to navigate Friendly people and professors: Of all the people I met I don't think anyone was ever that unhappy. Blame it on the beach location the cool sea breeze, or the beautiful campus, but people here always seem to be smiling. The Bad: A little smallish. Now that I am older and have actually been to college I have to say that this campus is a little on the small side. Of course if you're into that kind of setting you can just bump this back up to the good side, but for me, I say bigger is better. Diving board removal: Okay this is more of a me thing, but there used to be a 12 ft. diving board at their swimming pool, and then they took it out due to insurance reasons. So SAD! Embry Riddle is a beautiful campus with friendly people and great overall facilities. If you're thinking about becoming a pilot, this place is definitely worth checking out! I attend this university through their worldwide campus, the Master of Business Administration-Aviation program. Like any university, your experience is greatly influenced by your professors. I've had some good and some bad.. it seems that they are becoming more choosy with their profs, though, because the past several have been incredible! I gave four stars because the interface is clunky for worldwide courses, but this is set to be upgraded in another couple of months, possibly for the October 2014 term (it is currently BlackBoard, which is horrible and would have been cause for 3 stars). I didn't have a very good experience with the jobs portal and was told (rather unceremoniously) by the internship advisor that worldwide is NOT the same as the Daytona Beach campus. Her reasoning was that it costs less. I beg to differ, I'm paying nearly the same as if I were on campus or commuting. The only other negative thing I have to say is that not all of the information you need is readily accessible (easy to find), but your advisor will help you navigate through. The requirements for computers, etc, weren't always clear (one course required a Windows computer for proprietary software and I use a Mac). Otherwise, the school is more what the STUDENT wishes to achieve and gain from it. You will get the educational experience that you go after. The all-aviation-related coursework is true to their promise and extremely interesting. I highly recommend this school if you are an aviation buff and desire aviation-related coursework. There are cheaper options, but they don't carry the "weight" of Riddle. There are certainly other prestigious options, but ER offers a unique experience. I would say, however, that for someone in a different major, their feelings may be different. While I believe that there are many roads to the same job/career, the roads don't all give the same experience. read more

I attended here part time, having to work to afford the high cost. When my dad and brother got cancer, I had to take a break from school to care for them and my nieces. Despite the fact that I had material from the school stating I could go two years between classes before I lost my student status, when I returned after 13 months I was told I had to reapply for my degree. Reapplying meant I had to take a large number of classes again. When I stopped due to family medical issues I only needed one more class to graduate. Now, with having to retake classes, it would be another two years. It was recommended by the local center director that I send a letter asking for an exception. I can't honestly tell you if an exception was granted, because no one would give me an answer. I followed up every two weeks over a period of two months, and when someone in FL finally returned my call she wouldn't answer a direct question asking if an exception would be made. Now having been in aviation for 20+ years, I go out of my way to advise parents to find somewhere else for their kids to attend. read more

WHAT KIND OF SCHOOL ARE YOU RUNNING?! They have instructors who dont even fly teaching ground school to students at a fast track paced course and half of the students are not even passing. Being a pilot is a serious deal, and safety comes first! They dont even care if the students are learning, they are just trying to push students through regardless. All they want is your money. Then, come to find out, the university is telling the students that they only have one week to take their pilot knowledge written exam. YOU ARE FALSE! Students!!! LISTEN!!! The endorsement for your pilot written exam does not expire for 24 CALENDAR MONTHS! and 60 days for your checkride. READ YOUR FAR! Learn your regulations. Dont let embry riddle take advantage of you. Then to make matters worse these students are being forced into flying with multiple students during their flight blocks! YOURE PAYING YOUR CFI FOR A SERVICE! Theyre supposed to adhere to your schedule, not the other way around. Another way embry riddle takes advantage of all the young student pilots who dont know any better. You will succeed and learn better one on one and they DO NOT do that for the PPL! Also, they are over charging the students on their flights. For example: Student A and student B go up for flight training for about 3 hours. That cost is $500 dollars total. However, student A learns faster and only flies for 1 hour. But student B flies for 2 hours. Heres the catch, youd think Student A would pay a total of $166 because they flew for only one hour and student B would pay $334.... NOPE. They make the students split it down the middle regardless of how long they fly. So student A ends up paying more money ($250) even though he learned the lesson quicker. I even reached out to the professor and he initially said he understood but then while i was away at training and went to submit the late assignments he changed his mind and locked me out of them. Really do your homework and research this school. Most professors are adjunct so they have little commitment. The atmosphere is shiny but the students lack class and maturity, leaving a fairly poor quality student body. The guys seem to really get off by talking in a filthy manor to each other and no one shows any respect to anyone. Seems like the school brings in lots of ROTC and it does NOT help the campus, but brings in lots of cash. Graduation takes 6-7 years so it costs a lot more than advertised. If you just want to fly stay home and get your license. (or go to N. Dakota) If you are a female you are really out of luck. Don't even consider going here, even if you are ROTC. This is the Walmart of colleges and you can do much better. As a female that came in with multiple scholarships, I could only handle one year of being somewhere so crude. read more

Private school, offers good education for those interested in fields related to aviation. Many of the facilities on campus are brand new, and those that aren't are well maintained. Class room sizes are small, which allows for a great learning environment. State of the art simulators and aircraft available to use for students pursuing specific fields. Great school. read more

First things first, I went to school here for my BS and successfully completed the program and graduated with all the sunshine and smiles to go with it. With that being said I have absolutely no problem giving other people my honest perspective about going to school here because hindsight is 20/20 right! Does Embry-Riddle's MBA Program Get a Passing Grade? Written by a former graduate student that loved the program but, felt disappointed with the program's numerous shortcomings. Myself: Former international graduate student at Embry-Riddle Where: Daytona Beach campus Department: College of Business (COB) Program of Study: Master of Business Administration (MBA) Pros: - Program is aviation-focused. This is reflected in both the content of the courses offered in the MBA program and, in students who mostly share a profound passion for aviation and aerospace. - Class sizes are generally small when compared to other B-schools (avg. of 20/students per class during the fall and spring semesters). - Most teachers are passionate about what they teach and several ties/connections to the aviation/aerospace industry (this is perfect for students that want to build their contacts). - The campus is fairly modern and has decent amenities. Cons (there are many): - As an MBA student, you are mixed into the 'pack' of undergraduate students at the College of Business from day one. There are NO: student lounges or office space, computer labs or meeting areas that are dedicated for the use of graduate students at the COB. - Once you're accepted into the program, there is little to no administrative support for international students. I had to go out of my way to ask about career opportunities at the career center and, most importantly, aside from professor feedback forms that students complete at the end of the semester, not ONCE did anyone actually ask me about my feedback about the program in general. For $40K, it didn't seem like anyone actually cared about what I thought about the program after they received my tuition payment. - While the MBA program at Embry-Riddle is coveted in the aviation community, it lacks substantial value outside of the aviation and aerospace industry. Look it up. Every single executive from every single airline in the US is alma-mater from either an Ivy League school or another academic institution. Additionally, the MBA program at ERAU is NOT accredited as should any reputable b-school would be. - Lack of student diversity. Due partly to the recruiting efforts of Dr. Raghavan, almost half of my class was composed of students from India. While you could argue that demand for the ERAU MBA is insatiable in India, the recent spike in Indian students is because of the aforementioned professor's targeted and biased recruiting efforts in that country. While I value student diversity in the classroom, I fear that the student population will become increasingly homogeneous in the future. - Meaningful graduate student employment is incredibly difficult to obtain. Most jobs offered to graduate students are just that - jobs. Most work options on campus are suited for undergraduate students with little to no work experience. The exception to this are the few and highly prized Research Assistant positions. However, the gatekeeper for these jobs (Dr. Raghavan) will prevent most qualified applicants from ever having a chance in the application process. Never before have I seen such nepotism in the selection of candidates. If you've been to the COB (College of Business), you would understand what I'm talking about. In my case, when my application to be a Research Assistant was rejected, I asked Dr. Raghavan for an explanation. He claimed that the successful applicant had a higher GMAT score than I did - even though this criterion (along with many others) was never communicated to me at any point during the hiring process. This led me to believe that the qualifications for this job were tailored to favor certain applicants over others. Recommendation: While the MBA program at Embry-Riddle is worthy of praise within the aviation and aerospace industry, the program's highlighted shortcomings make it an obvious second choice for students that are able to attend more renown business schools with better reputations. read more

This University is not all the glamour that they want us to believe. Aside from a well known and accredited name for the school, everything else is just horrible. One of the most important thing at a university is the internet connection, well let me tell you something. The internet here is as fast as the first discovery of dial up. It's very embarrassing that my cellphone data connection is faster than their landline. A pled for faster connection has always been ignored. All the money going into new buildings on campus should be prioritized and focused on bringing faster connection. The food here is also terrible, with a horrible selection. The healthy food is bad, the good food is unhealthy. There really is no option. A lot of the things on campus is also completely over priced and unreasonable. They charge you extra if you pay with cash or credit, you split even if you use Eagle Dollars, and they give you a discount if you use their non refundable dining dollars. Everything here is completely over priced, and all because of the great name of Embry-Riddle. read more

I'm actually from Daytona Beach, but have had to move around a lot due to my military commitments. While most of the classes (worldwide student) I have taken have been great, I am really disappointed with this university. I have been attending for almost a year and signed up for the B.S. in Technical Management Information Systems degree. I transferred from another school and am only missing the core classes for my degree. Unfortunately though, Embry Riddle never finished their curriculum for this degree (and a few others). So they don't even offer the 7 or 8 classes I need to graduate. This is awful because as a veteran I'm using my GI Bill, it has a time limit. If I don't use it within 3 years of starting a academic program I will lose it. My goal was to knock out my degree within a year and then move on to my masters degree, but the way ER can't get their act together that doesn't seem like it is going to happen. So my only choice at this point is to transfer to a different school. Absolute crap that they advertise a degree plan and don't actually have classes for it. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL! I would like to note that I go to this school through their online program and go to a class once a week but all my work is submitted online. I have been going to this school for two nine week terms and so far it has been a nightmare. No one at this school is helpful. My most recent problems have really made me question if I want to continue to go here or not. They just implemented a new process for buying school books through their website and you now need a promotional code from your campus in order to use student aid or your G.I. Bill. Well my campus has no idea what I'm talking about when I asked about this and told me to either front the money, which I can't do, or wait till I actually get my check for my student aid. This wouldn't be a problem except it takes 3 to 4 weeks for that to come in. My classes are nine weeks long. So I won't have a book for almost half of my class. I would be very far behind by the time I got my books seeing as all my classes are online. Now I can understand not knowing about this promotional code because it is a new feature but my campus adviser refuses to even look into it. My next and biggest complaint is that in my last class my teacher didn't grade anything until the week after my final. How am I suppose to know what I need to improve on if I didn't get any grades till after the class is over? Well it turns out I wasn't doing very well in this class so I failed. Also I only had nine assignments graded and there's still seven assignments not graded. Really? and they want me to pay for this? If I had known what my grades where I could have asked if there was anything I could do to fix it like rewrite the paper and just have points taken off for being late. This school is not a school I would recommend. Now if they are willing to fix these problems I had than maybe I would give them a second chance but as for right now DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL! Just a side note I do most of my classes online with the exception of one class that I actually go to but all my work is submitted through their online system. read more

09/29/15 - My family did a campus tour with my son. We were impressed with the presentation and Q&A with the administration. The campus is very nice and clean, and they seem to put money back into their facilities. Currently, a new student union is under construction for the 2017 year. The aircraft fleet, simulators, aviation facilities, and classrooms were very nice and up-to-date, and simulate a professional airline/airport environment. We met with Engineering department heads and professors to discuss their new UAV/drone program. The UAV facilities are custom built for ERAU, and of the latest technology. The professors were very enthusiastic about their new program and where it is headed. They allowed my son to try his hand at the controls of one of their fully equipped UAV simulators, and provided many details about the program, its new Central Florida FAA approved testing ground, and what to expect upon graduation. We observed several classes in progress, and the students seemed very interested and engaged by the instructor. ERAU campus is relatively small compared to other universities and doesn't have all of the amenities you may find elsewhere, but if you're primary interest is in the field of aviation and aeronautical studies, I doubt you could find much better in the classroom. Tuition is a bit high, and flight training is an additional expense not included with the tuition costs. Many scholarships, including athletic, are available to defray costs. The dorms are OK, but I imagine you could live off-campus in a nicer place for much less. Daytona Beach is a nice location, but it definitely isn't a typical college town. We're looking at other universities for consideration, but ERAU is still in the running. read more

Bait and switch. I went through the admission process after clearly stating multiple times that I needed four classes to complete pre-nursing. After completing the admissions process I was informed that they would only offer me classes if I transferred into a degree program. This wouldn't be a problem if they had been up front, but instead I was lead to believe that it would not be a problem. I wasted two weeks of my summer emailing back and forth with an advisor that could have been spent actually taking the classes that I need before fall. Other colleges were upfront about there policy on transferring credits out, Embry-Riddle was not. read more

I have been attending ERAU for a little over two years. I cannot speak for the Daytona or Prescott campuses as I have been a worldwide / satellite campus student. I can testify that the instructors at the satellite campuses are relatively good. The online classes leave more than a little to be desired though. Over the last two years ERAU has apparently dropped the standards for their online professors while upping the work load. One undergraduate online class can require up to 25 + hours a week. The professors are often to busy to do anything with the class except to put an A or B on the report card. An A is worthless if no one in the class learned anything, and anyone can simply read a book to learn from saving the tuition. From a current student standpoint I would recommend looking for another online school if you are just beginning your search. There are problems at every school but between ERAU and the three community colleges that I have attended in my travels, ERAU really needs to place standards for their online classes and professors. I am not downplaying the school in any way as I have had a relatively pleasant experience here and plan on finishing my degree with them, just advising not to attend if you plan on taking any online classes. read more

If you are military looking for a great online school that has solid plans and can coordinate with you, look somewhere else. I attempted to use this school to achieve my academic dreams but was given nothing but road blocks with this university. First I attempted to enroll while I was deployed. It took over 3 months to just get into the school since they could would not enroll me in even their basic courses until they had my transferred credits. Secondly, since I am an Air Force member I was trying to achieve my CCAF which is an associates through the Air Force. I spent a month with them creating a degree plan to achieve this by the deadline I needed it done by. I spent 16 weeks of my life completing this "plan" they helped me with and just received notification that my last class I needed was no longer scheduled for the same time that I was previously told. Because of this I will not meet my deadline. They told me they sent me an email with my degree plan in June but I actually went to their office in July to make sure everything was set up still. They never brought up the change and told me nothing had changed and we are still on schedule for me to meet my goal. It is now August and I have to find a school to help accommodate my needs. When I told them this all they responded with was that they understood and I would have to reapply with the school if I decided to come back. That wont be a problem since I will never be back and will make sure to tell anyone that contacts me about education to stay clear of this place.
