Had my laundry stolen out of the washing machine despite dropping it off for the transfer service. Apparently they just let people walk out with someone else's personal belongings. Lost all my work clothes and things of sentimental value that I have had for over 10 years. Asked for some sort of reimbursement since it happened under their service and was denied. The best they can do is "wait for the person to return it." lol. It's a shame because I used this laundromat since I moved here and they were always great otherwise. Be careful if you go here, especially if you leave your clothes for their transfer service. Just know that if all your items get stolen, they won't even do you the courtesy of helping you partially pay for replacements despite the theft happening under their supervision. read more

Honored with the title of "Most Beautiful Coin-op in the country" you've gotta hand it to this laundromat, they'll transfer and fold your laundry, they're eco-friendly, they stay open late, smells nice, very clean. Very nice and clean laundromat. Plenty of washers and dryers. The workers are prompt and are very accomdating. The only con about this place is the price. Large washers cost $3.70 per load, but they're quite small inside (won't fit large comforters well). Smaller washers cost $3.55 per load. Dryers cost $0.55 per dry and with high or low options for temperature. You can only dry your clothes for 20 minutes or 30 minutes only. This sucks especially if you only have a small load to dry. I also like how you don't have to worry about bringing cash or coins. You can just reload money into your laundry card. Opening up a card cost $4 for deposit. If it weren't for the high prices, I would definitely used this place more often. read more

This place is amazing and I am so sad that I don't live near it anymore. The transfer service is a total godsend and I'm so bummed that my local laundromat doesn't offer it. This place was always super clean, the machines worked well, and the staff was always nice. I never felt unsafe because of the staff presence and location. Compare that with my crummy new unstaffed laundromat and it's even more appreciated. For all of the services that they provide, I think it was well worth the price. read more

Some of the washers and dryers are kind of dirty. There a bunch of washers available so just make sure you check before you throw your clothes in. There is a great deal of services available at this location, including tranfering your clothes from washer to the dryers. Open late. read more

I'd drive all the way up to Arcata just to do my laundry here. I've considered it. But only if the "Laundry Gnome," as my roommates and I dubbed him is still working. He knew EVERYTHING about laundry. We were very impressed. & he was short and had a lot of hair and was so cheerful and helpful, everything a gnome should be minus the big, red, pointy hat. Maybe it was being laundered at the time. We used to save up our laundry and all go together & do homework on the big table up by the window. It didn't have crusty, old laundry detergent all over the place, there wasn't mold in between the floor tiles or up against the machines. You didn't wonder what the person who used the machine before you must've had on their clothes to make it smell like that. None of those things I see at laundromats since I left Arcata. Honestly the best laundromat ever! When I was living in town I always came here. The place was sooo clean! Staff was friendly and I never felt uncomfortable being here..I even left my stuff here and ran errands and knew my stuff would still be here waiting for me. People like how clean this place is, but what I just witnessed grossed me out. On a rainy day A dirty transient walks in and stuffs all his dirty nasty wet blankets, pillows, sleeping bag into a dryer and had it started for him. Now I have to wonder how many times I've put my clean freshly washed clothes into a dryer after some gross hobo laced and caked it with their fecal matter. It has been awhile years since I used Emerald City so hopefully they have changed thier policies. I feel bad writing a negative review when so many others give this place five stars, but I should relay my experience for the record. I was getting ready to move to Eureka, so I was not going to be using Emerald City any more. I had a few dollars (around $4) left on my card. After doing my last load of laundry at Emerald City, I approached the attendant working there and asked for the money back I had remaining on the card. She looked at me as of though I was speaking a foreign language and said she didn't know how to do that. I asked for a manager and was told (very rudely) that I would have to come back when a manager was around. I asked when that is and without even pretending to look, she shrugged her shoulders and grunted an "I don't know" sound. As a side note, this was not an uncommon attitude from the Emerald City employees; from my first day there I was treated like a jerk when I asked how their place worked with the card system. So I eventually caught up with a manager who (this time VERY rudely) told me any money I have left on the card is lost and they will not refund it. They said I could buy some detergent with the remaining money or give it to someone else. Needless to say I was angry at this point. I later called a number the "manager" had given me and was told the same thing. I told the person on the phone what they are doing is theft and she laughed and said "no it's not, it's just four dollars". That was it; my last experience with Emerald City. I feel they stole money from me (regardless of the 'small' amount), they are rude all the time, and the place is very expensive. I have since moved back to Arcata and I now go to the Arcata Speed Wash on F street and MOM's Laundry in the Valley West shopping center off Giuntoli Lane. Of the two MOMs laundry is the nicer and cleaner place. The sad thing is, the attitude I experienced at Emerald City is the prevaling attitude at most of the "local" buisnesses around the plaza and G street area. Many buisnesses have the attitude that the customer is an annoyance to be dealt with. I do not have the Arcata "look". I really do feel that because of my boring t-shirt and jeans appearance that I am looked at as an unwelcome outsider at downtown Arcata buisnesses. read more

I was charged $3 CASH a bag of laundry for coming an hour late. I had six dollars on my laundry card and was told that wasn't good enough- she couldn't "minus" the money off of my card to pay for it. Will not be going back. Expensive, no bathroom, rude staff, not worth it. read more

This is the only laundromat I used while I lived in Arcata. They are amazing they do a free switch over service and their washers and dryers are always in excellent condition and huge so you can fit a whole comforter (or two) in there. The place is always so clean and everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. I hate laundromats but this one made it an better experience. read more

Don't waste your time or money to this location.. they advertise they close at 11. I started loading my clothes in at 9:05 and after I loaded them up some guy says he can't let me start the loads since it's after 9:00.. no where does it say that. 2 hours is more than enough time to get my loads done and get out of there. The place was filthy with random socks and pieces of trash all over the floor. They are over priced to begin with and I don't like going here to but decided to since they "are open later". The laundry Matt is clean and the staff has been really kind an helpful. There are a lot of washers and dryers so no need to wait. They'll also wash your laundry for a price by the pound. Not a bad idea if you have errands to run. I recommend it! read more

I love to support local businesses but my experience here was very negative. I had four blazers cleaned. They returned smelling horrible. Additionally during the process the lining separated from the jacket material so it sagged out the sleeves. I feel like I paid someone to make my clothes unwearable. I do not recommend. read more

Called to get information on their service as I am in town on an emergency and needed my suit pressed for a family funeral. I was told by an employee of theirs that answered the phone that there was someone there 24 hours a day, and I could drop my clothes off at any time and pick it up the next day pressed and ready to go. When I arrived at 11:10pm they were closed. There was a person cleaning who was nice enough to open the door and talk to me. Only to inform me that whomever answered the phone was wrong. It would take 24 hours to press (iron) a jacket. Which to me is ludicrous. I also had several bags of clothes for their fluff and fold service (from several family members that have been on the road for a long time) and would have dropped a decent dime there for their service. But they weren't interested in my situation or my offer to pay for expediting this due to our circumstances. read more

Don't know if this laundrymat has changed ownership since my previous visit a year or so ago when I was impressed at that time with the friendly, exceptional staff. On returning there today, I was appalled, even shocked, by the extremely unprofessional, literally loud and belligerent manner I was treated by a female employee. Can't imagine any owner being ok with their employees treating clients so poorly. She had literally created a scene making other customers uncomfortable as well. Interesting business model. Traveling, nice to know there's a fluff and fold spot in Humboldt County should the need arise. Friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced. Was able to pay for one time use and have the staff meter the machines for me without getting a card. Side note: I realize the area I'm in but I don't smoke weed and would really prefer my clothing not smell like weed after paying to having them cleaned. This laundromat is the next best thing to having my own washer/dryer in my home. I've been doing my laundry here for years, even though my apartment complexes have had their own laundry facilities. It's very well kept, has helpful staff and lots of washers/dryers, as well as optional big washers/dryers, if you need them :) My favorite time to go is in the morning, and I always get my first choice washers/dryers. It's a perk that Wild Berries is across the street, if you want to get grocery shopping done or grab a fresh juice while your laundry dries : ) I'll have my own washer/dryer in my own home soon, but I'm thankful for this laundromat while I was in college and needed one. read more

Way over priced, and they don't even have a bathroom. The wifi alone is not worth it when all I can think about is going to the bathroom...and if you're asking yourself why I just didn't walk to wild berries, it was because of the massive amounts of rain that was dumping outside while all of my jackets and pants were being washed. I got two suits cleaned here. I got a 10% discount for paying up front. They didn't tell me about the discount until after I did it, so it's something to be aware of. When you walk in you will be underwhelmed, but that's because they send all their stuff to Eureka. Since they send their stuff out, be prepared to wait a couple extra days. read more

As much as I love doing my laundry here (as much as any other laundromat) I will never understand the way the employees here treat their customers. I always feel like I've interrupted their day and walk away wondering if I have spinach in my teeth or something. The place is clean. It is very over priced. The girl miss lead me about pricing in terms of drying clothes, charging me three times more then she quoted me, and instead of making good on it, she told me after I started washing I could do something else with me clothes and offered me refund. She offered to show me no pricing list. It was after I started washing IU picked up a brochure and looked at it, and said I got this price you quoted me, and she was like I charged you the price in the brochure, Oh well, it may be nickel and pennies, but still the business practice is the same, over priced and deceitful. There are much cheaper laundromats in the area, Including Blue Lake, has a very clean and quiet Laundromat, for $2.50 a load and a quarter to dry, I will do my laundry there when I need t do laundry again. The other laundry mat in town, I have concerns about lice,, those little buggers start jumping off clothes when they get wet, and it was not that clean, I would suggest the Laundry in Blue Lake, many people in this area are gross and disgusting, and do not do laundry, and when they do, and have that natted hair, that gets that way from not washing it, it is actually considered a hair style, even guys working at the grocery stores in Arcata have this hair style, it is unsanitary, and I would want the laundromat cleaned after their use, for sanitary reason. read more

I refuse to use any place but this one. Every time I go here, my clothes come back smelling so good--I can't even describe it, really...they smell like vanilla and cupcakes and kittens made of clouds. They're also reasonably priced. read more
