I've had açaí bowls before, mostly frozen, and I did not like them at all. My partner loves their açaí bowls here and told me to try it. After much resistance I tried it and to my surprise...I LOVED it!!! What I love about it is that it's SO fresh, tasty, has big portions that fill you up, yet you still want more because of how good it is. 10/10 recommend getting their açaí bowl! I won't ever be going back to this location. I visited over the summer and on walking into the store I was assulted by fruit flies. I went against my better judgement and ordered smoothie. I noticed well waiting the fruit flies where in the containers(they didn't put lids on) and all over the place. I asked about it and they claim they can do nothing about it...but other locations have no problem. Fruit flies come from not cleaning and rotten food. That tells me a lot about there sanitation. Quick service and good variety. They are a pretty small operation in the Alderwood mall, hidden away just outside of Nordstrom and next to Panera bread. There aren't a lot of seats inside the actual place so if it is busy, you'll have to find another seating area to enjoy whatever you got. They have a great assortment of açaí bowls that would appeal to all and if you don't like one aspect of that specific bowl you can always customize that order as well. I would say this place is moderately priced, not cheap but far from an expensive stop either. An açaí bowl will run you around $8-10 depending on which one you get and how you customize it. They have a lot of other healthy snack options too that you can grab, while waiting in line. The service is friendly and quick, nothing more you could ask for. The staff cheerfully customized my smoothie for me by making it without the whey protein that it was supposed to have in it. I am currently calorie counting (I write all of my calories & food/drinks down every day) so I really appreciate that they have the specific calorie count for each smoothie listed on the order board. Went to Emerald City Smoothie located in the outside section of Alderwood Mall today by Nordstroms. The store has a nice , non corporate feel to it, and in addition to smoothies has a small amount of health foods and powders. The two younger staff members working (on 6-20-2012 at around 4-5pm) were friendly, personable and very guest oriented. Despite a small rush of guests that came out of no where, they remained positive with smiles on their face. The location is very clean, which is something that is important to me in a food establishment. The variety of smoothies is very impressive and are categorized well to help you pick the right one. The one down side to the visit was the smoothie was a little bit on the runny side (like a very cold chocolate milk) and the "baristas" could have been a little more talkative. Emerald City smoothie always has seemed misleading to me, because every time I've gone I've watched them pump a bunch of syrup into what is supposed to be a healthy smoothie. Today, there were no other vegan options in the area, and I was starving. They have to have something vegan there, right? Right. It was awesome to find out that their açaí bowls were all vegan/customizable! Also, just on a side note- the staff is very friendly and helpful. I can tell they have great management here. If I were to rate it just on the staff/operations, 5 stars no doubt. The reason why I can't do that though is because I looked both online and in store for nutrition facts on these darn açaí bowls and they're nowhere to be found. I just want to know how much sugar I'm eating.... the granola and coconut tastes really sweet and packed with sugar. The bowl itself is eh. Tastes kinda like nothing with a hint of frozen fruit. Not good, not bad. I've had a lot better in fact for $9. Nothing about the store, just the company recipe and quality of ingredients all together.
