I was very disappointed with this service. After two visits they told me the first caregiver "had a…read morefamily emergency," A few days later she quit via email. I was privately surprised that they would hire someone so unreliable, but if that was the only problem I would've understood. It wasn't... The 2nd caregiver and Daughter for Hire themselves showed poor management, a failure to communicate, lied to me directly on multiple occasions, and were careless & chaotic. It started out okay. A few small things were adding up, but nothing to cause too much concern in the beginning. I'll mention those at the end, but let's start with the bigger problem. I started using "Janet" 2x a week for companionship, light cleaning, and todo errands with my elderly grandma. A few weeks in I scheduled Janet to take grandma to an orientation for a specially equipped elderly bus that she was eligible for. She was to be taken to the orientation to learn how using the door to door special equipped bus process worked. I asked Daughter for Hire contact me about how everything went beforehand. They assured me they would. They did not. When I called to find out how it went the following week I was told, "It went poorly" with zero details. I'd taken great care to apply for this handicapped bus program, so naturally I was concerned & asked for more information. They told me, they didn't think my grandmother could use the star bus program without any additional details, but with promise of more. I followed up with the person I'd arranged for them to meet to find out what happened & she said they never even went to the appointment at all! WHAT?? I was shocked to hear that. I'd given Daughter for Hire the address, time of appointment, & her name & contact info and they never went there or even attempted to contact her! And then lied to me about ito boot. When I contacted Daughter for Hire to let them know this they insisted Janet "definitely went because she called them while there." I was patient and tried to get to the bottom of it, but turns out it was another total lie and there were more to come! I contacted the star bus program trainer again to see if there had been a paperwork oversight. There was not. I contacted Daughter for Hire & asked what address Janet went to, & who they met with. I was told "they'd get back to me." When I asked if they could call or text Janet to find out they told me "there was no way for them to do that." I remained calm & patient, but thought, "You have no way to contact via text or cellphone someone who is personally responsible for my grandmother's care & well being after something went so strangely wrong? And why isn't this causing them any alarm?" Days later, they informed me that not only did Janet not bring my grandma to the appointment, she took it upon herself to randomly take her on a city bus ride. The city bus is not equipped for an elderly person to get in & out of easily. The specially equipped star bus is. It shows a serious lack in judgement along with terrible listening skills, confusion, chaos, poor planning, and a refusal to take responsibility for their own actions with zero explanation. Why did my 92 yr old grandma end up going on Mister Toad's Wild Ride?? How did that happen? Who dropped the ball? How could a company that helps the elderly be so utterly incompetent? I have no idea, because even though I asked and did my best to find out I was never told. I was lied to repeatedly, talked over, definitely not apologized to, & never given any explanation whatsoever. Additional mistakes: They accidentally billed my elderly grandma directly even though the service is prepaid (had to send a neighbor over to rip up the check), promises of being added to a two way communication website that was a one way site with no way of adding activities, my attempts to add small tasks to the schedule via phone were never done or even added, a friend of the family reported they saw my grandma sitting alone at the pharmacy of Walmart all by herself. I'm guessing Janet was doing the grocery shopping, but the point of having my grandma go on the outings is to give her a tiny bit of exercise and change of pace, not to leave her alone in a pharmacy so you can do the errand quicker. I've seen the positive impact shopping for groceries has on her mental well being. Also during the entire length of her care there was only one note about grandma stating "forgot to clock in." That's it. No report of how she was doing, no schedule of grocery shopping, no cleaning schedule, nothing. Anyway, find another agency. I think this one may have had a good reputation at one time, but I don't think they deserve that reputation anymore.

She is now doing very well and aside from wanting her car () she has settled in quite well. This is a beautiful facility, the staff is wonderful, and there are plenty of activities to keep her engaged. A bonus is the Montessori school that is connected to the facility so the residents get to interact with the young children. There is a van to take her to medical appointments and residents can sign up for trips to do some shopping and even to go to the Racino in Saratoga! The pricing is very reasonable compared to other facilities we looked at, and is based upon the size of the room the resident selects. I thank the staff for the care they provide!

We never heard from them again. Months after being told just 3 weeks. Not one phone call and now she's not well. And I believe shaker place would of played a good part in keeping her comfortable. Shame on you ! Post I submitted to a caregiver support group. (BELOW) I need some guidance. My gram was placed in a facility after falling. After almost 6 months of waiting to get her placed. She ended up in a facility I don't like. The facility we were waiting on just never called us after they told us 3 weeks. I called every day. They just completely ghosted us (shaker nursing home, Albany New York) Shaker Place Rehabilitation & Nursing Center watching her drop pounds and seem over sedated. There's a man on her floor and he's aggressive and punched her. The nurses seem cold and not friendly. ( won't mention the facility out of protection for her) I can't sleep at night still. When I was taking care of her it was a nightmare. I watched the one person I love more then anything, turn into this scared psychotic monster. I almost wish I could bring her home. But it just wasn't safe. No matter what I did. I broke my leg the day before she was placed. And have only been able to see her three times in 3 months. I'm sick over it. Hysterical at night. Can't keep it together. I'm scared about things she will ask me. Or what to say. I don't want to create more confusion. She doesn't really even know here she is. Do I talk to her like normal ? Do I leave out things that could trigger memories of her house. Now empty. Do I talk of old relatives. How do I bring her happiness when I see her. And how the f--ck do I get her out of this place. Just start calling places who take her insurance and start the process all Over again? I can't sleep till I know she's all right. Something deep inside of me feels something isn't right there. Everyone seems overly medicated. Last week I got myself there and I just walked into the locked memory care facility. Gram was sleeping. Lethargic and out of it. I did not SEE ONE NURSE OR PERSON for over 45 minutes. And 45 minutes of me just freely walking around looking for anyone. This is off right ? There's something off.

She had some minor memory loss and was a head of household after my Fathers death. After a little over a year on her own, it was obvious that she could not care for herself any longer. When we looked any facility over we took the tour, but then would try to see and hear staff/resident conversation outside of the tour. Most of my family can go see her weekly, call every other day, or involve her out of the facility on occasion. We always see Marjorie Doyle in everyday mode with often no personnel aware we are there. Staff are always kind and even loving toward the residents. I have been so impressed to date. It's the only place I have personally thought......." I could live here."
