Updating my review. I moved out a few months ago…read more The deposit charges were a bit on the high side, in my opinion: -They withheld $90 for misc. cleaning charges (after we spent hours cleaning the apartment.) -They withheld $28 to replace the drip pans. (more than market price) -They withheld $114.50 for carpet cleaning - probably illegal (see Elyse De Stefano v. Apts. Downtown page 13) -They also charged $75 to repair a countertop that I burned. It was my fault and I'm not really complaining, but Karen previously told me that she thought she could get it repaired for a lower cost. So about $300 out of the deposit for a 4br...probably decent for IC, but I thought it could have been cheaper. Here's why I'm still willing to give them a 5 star rating: -They were extremely friendly, helpful and professional throughout the lease. -Maintenance response was usually only a few hours for minor stuff. They care about the quality of the property, and , e.g., responded immediately when I noticed a leak in the laundry room. -Halfway through the lease one roommate went broke and announced that he was going to break the lease and not pay any more. Another roommate had to move out for personal reasons. Karen helped us to deal with subletting 2 rooms and eventually helped us negotiate a deal with the first roommate so we didn't have to take him to court over the rent. -Even after we've moved out, Rae-Matt still forwards mail. None of my previous landlords have done that for any length of time. -They never once charged a late fee even though we were late multiple times on rent. -Tons of other minor things throughout the year that I've forgotten by now. I'm still slightly bummed about the deposit, but I didn't really push it too much with Rae-Matt because I felt that they exceeded my expectations in so many other areas. I would definitely rent again.

That was a month ago. I tried calling back 4 times with the same outcome. Still waiting. The office tries to penny and dime you at every convenience. The lady who answers the phone once told me that she would rather email me the lease instead of sending it by mail, so that she could save the stamp. They cashed my check for the application fee and then claimed I never paid. I had to go to the bank and get a print out showing the cashed check to convince them. Once i placed a maintenance call and they wrote down the wrong address and never showed. When we called back they said that they went to the place and there was nothing wrong. The onsite manager does not know anything and just tells you to call the office. The bottom line is that they are only nice until you sign the lease and then be prepared to have to wait for any services for weeks or months. The lady in the office is extremely patronizing and calls you hon.

He really knows the area and has a passion for his customers. His customer service is great. He follows up. He stays in contact. We were doing much of this remote. Dann showed us around the city and introduced us to various neighborhoods. Right off the bat were were impressed by his knowledge about and passion for the Iowa City area. We had decided to rent for our first two years until we could confirm whether or not we liked living in Iowa City. And as it turns out... we love Iowa City! Dann was fantastic through the entire home buying process. He was knowledgeable about the various neighborhoods, looked up everything we needed to know about each home we toured, showed us a large scope of homes to help us find exactly what we were looking for, and kept in close contact with us between meetings via phone calls and text messages. What I appreciated most about working with Dann, was that he has a history working with contractors and was able to give knowledgable advice regarding how much we could expect to spend on the various updates we talked about while touring each home. As picky as we were, we finally found "the house" and despite it getting five offers on the first day, the offer Dann helped us put together was the winner and we even managed to stay under our budget!

Whitney helped us find a new home in Coralville, Iowa. We were from out of state and did not know the area at all. We also were not sure for a time whether we wanted a house or a condominium. Whitney showed us many, many properties with patience and humor. She was always low-pressure and calm. She was very helpful during the walk-through of each property, pointing out its strengths and weaknesses. She also got back to us promptly with answers to our questions. And she was very knowledgeable about each property's community. Whitney's husband, Ben Russell, was a huge asset for us, as well. As a former banker and now also a realtor with Urban Acres, he made himself available to us to help crunch numbers and answer more technical questions. Whitney called us as soon as the condo that we ultimately bought came on the market. By now she knew us well. We fell in love with the condo at our first visit. This new listing already had two other offers on the first day. Whitney guided us through the process of making the winning bid and then going through the complicated paperwork to actually purchase our new home. We could not have been more pleased with Whitney Russell.

They were willing to meet us at houses multiple times a day since we didn't want to miss anything with this crazy market. They were 100% honest and told me if I was not getting a good deal or if the house wasn't worth it. There was one house that I really liked but when we received a purchase agreement from the company that was 20 or so pages they both immediately let us know that it was a red flag and it would not be a good idea to purchase the house. Fast forward to today and my partner and I are in the perfect house. Whitney was willing to meet us last minute at 7 PM for the cutest house! Even though this house had only been on the market for one day, they received 13 offers. Whitney put together an offer that night and then called a few hours later to congratulate us on our first house. Whitney and Ben are some of the nicest people I've ever met and they truly are a joy to know. I would recommend them to anyone!
