The booking: I booked Emily to do an outdoor "pregnancy reveal" for my husband and I. I jumped the gun a little and thought spring would come early (due to a couple of days of really nice weather.) Unfortunately the temperature dropped again. Every weekend (this was the only time that worked for my husband and I) we tried to get the shoot done it would either be too cold or poor weather. This went on for about a month before we could end up actually doing the shoot. Emily was SO understanding. She was super flexible with her schedule and easy to work with. She stayed in constant contact with me until the day of. Communication was great. I don't think she ever took more than 24 hours to respond but usually I'd hear back from her within a few hours. The photoshoot: I have nothing to complain about here. She was just as great in person as she was via email. She gave direction while not being too pushy. She also listened to all of my ideas and made sure that we got every shot I wanted The photos: They came out great. I asked Emily if I could pretty pretty please have some finished photos within the next 7 days. I had a friends and family event and wanted them for the occasion. That night I was surprised to receive an email from her letting me know that she's already edited a few photos and I can have a look at them! I also received most of the other photos in time for my event as I asked. Everyone loved them and I was even told that "this might be the best maternity shoot I've ever seen". Conclusion: I was originally hesitant to work with Emily due to some poor reviews (only a couple) on Yelp. My hesitancy was completely unwarranted. I highly recommend Emily Main Photography and look forward to working with her again in the future. read more

In my opinion, I made one mistake with our wedding vendors and that was hiring Emily Main photography. The pictures were extremely disappointing, pictures out of focus, blurry, heads or feet cut off and a thick orange glaze over some of our pictures even though we had a beautiful sunny wedding day. Our experience was eerily similar to other negative reviews that I'm seeing online like google, the knot etc, unfortunately I'm finding them online after the fact. Don't get me started on customer service. As an Albanian woman who comes from a family of small business owners her customer service was disgraceful. I will admit I consider her creative, not when it comes to pictures, but when it comes to excuses for her delayed responses she's got plenty. I would never recommend to anyone. I hired Emily Main to photograph my Son's First Birthday for 3 hours for $300 on April 4, 2015. Her portfolio looked good, a lot of available light photos that were in focus, etc. Her communication was good along with demeanor at my son's party When I received the photos that is really where the real disappointment lay. Majority of the photos were blurry and out of focus.. Major photos such as group photos were all partially out of focus. Major events at the party such as my son getting his birthday cupcake delivered to him and a group shot of myself, husband and son with my Daughter completely out of focus to the point where no details can be seen. There is little to no evidence of anyone at the party, there were 35 people at this party. A section outside from our shoot was not even included in the final edits. We are devastated at the lack of quality and attention given. For the cost of $300 its extremely disappointing to receive photos that are at an amateur level with little consideration made to fix the problem. We even tipped her at the event. I asked for Raw files so I could fix some of the blurry shots, she states she is "having major problems with her computer" When I emailed her about the problem she stated she was going to refund me the whole amount. ""I will send you the originals without my edits and also mail you a check for $300. Thanks, Emily" She then asked for my chase pay id, in which I did not have one. I waited for a week to see if she was going to refund me the money via check , like she stated. I received a email about how she was not going to refund me the money and that she "did the job she was paid for." I do not recommend anyone to book her services. Her positive reviews were clearly from people she knows as they were both written on the same day. There are so many other talented photographers that do follow through, that provide better customer service, that do not lie to their clients and the Better business bureau about sending refunds that were never sent. As of May 26, 2015 I have not heard, or received anything else from Emily Main Photography. She doesn't respond to emails. If anyone needs to see the set of blurry / soft photos please message me on YELP. I have now reported her to the BBB of Westchester County. Situation is pending as she is still refusing to compromise to a resolution and has not answered why major shots are out of focus and blurry. This is an issue of her technique and misrepresenting herself on her portfolio as someone who can take sharp images. IF you look at her recent portfolio you can see that major shots of clients are poorly focused. June 3, 2015 - we compromised on half back through the BBB complaint board through a resolution from her directly. She offered $150 back June 18, 2015 - refund of half the paying price still has NOT been received July 29, 2015 - She told the BBB that she would send a check twice already for $150. Check has not been received. Case has been reopened with the BBB. August 3, 2015 -- BBB attempted to contact her twice, no response. Sept. 21, 2015 - No response, no half refund like she suggested . I recently worked with Emily on a one year birthday party. He didn't exactly pose and make the task easy but Emily managed to capture some true gems. She even caught all of the little love details like the themed table runner, cupcakes and wall decor. Emily arrived on time, stayed for the specified timeframe and was very professional. In fact, I was very impressed with her professionalism. After much badgering she allowed me to offer some water but she was focused entirely on the task at hand. I inquired on packages via email and specifically told her that I would not be having a wedding but that I wanted pictures of my fiancé (in wedding attire) for memories. She agreed and we scheduled a date and time. The day of the photoshoot she was surprised to see me in a wedding dress because she was under the impression that it was a maternity shoot. Throughout the process she kept saying how "thrown off" she was because she was expecting something else and it just made me feel super uncomfortable. This photoshoot took place October 2nd, I did not receive my proofs until December after multiple emails and text messages requesting them. Her answer was always that she was really booked but would get to them next week. I selected the photos I wanted and it took an additional month just for her to take off her watermark from the digital images. I asked her if she can make 2 of the images black and white and also asked for her to send over the pictures of my fiancé alone (which were never in the gallery) she said she would send them over and two weeks later when I attempted to follow up it appeared I had been blocked. She made the entire experience a negative one; I should have just taken the photos with my iPhone because those turned out better than the ones she charged me hundreds of dollars for (which I didn't receive in it's entirety) . If you are that booked which I doubt because the pictures were underwhelming, you should not book more clients and then have them wait months for digital copies of photos. I only learned about Emily when my original photographer needed to cancel the day before my son's 1st birthday party and referred me to her. Imagine the stress I felt not knowing if I'm going to find the right photographer with a style like the vision in my head. I gave her my expectations and she provided me with her photography packages. She was able to capture the essence of the party. We took some staged photos before the party while we were still fresh which turned out really well. During the party, she was there to capture some key moments like the cake smash and my son's expressions. And he didn't stay still for very long. Processing took a while; about two months to complete. But we were in constant communication and she was always available whenever I had a question. My fiance found her in thumbtack which is a pretty good way to get a hold of people to do what you need to do. We didn't really look into her work to much (our big mistake) other then her portfolio. We were on a super tight budget and deadline as we're getting married in a few months and needed to get everything worked out. My fiance did most of the talking with her over phone and email. We finally got a date for pictures and went ahead and did it. We will admit that we are an odd ball for what we wanted, but nothing that most photographer can't handle and have some fun. We wanted something different so we went to the woods on a river. She seems to be a great person and all just didn't really conect with us. We started the pictures and we had stated to her that we wanted to do candid photos and nothing posed. We also wanted her to really take charge and direct us on what to do and make sure that we looked good in the photos. Nothing of that sort really happened. We did a 2hr shoot that we were never told about how much she would actually charge us. When she spoke with my fiance she told us that she would charge us $250. After everything was said and done she told us that because we did over 2hrs and in 2 different locations(down street from each other) and changed outfits that it would cost us $450. Which was never what we agreed to. She never said any of this while we were taking photos. Before the 2 hrs were up. we could tell that she was done and wanted to leave. To be fair it was a hot day, but money is money and we were paying up. We told her that we needed pictures or a few pictures right away for the invitations. She said that she would have them as soon as possible. She gave us 3 which we immediately knew that we were not going to be happy with them. They really didn't fit anything that we had asked for and we looked terrible. We then waited for the rest of the photos and we were not happy at all with a single one of them. We found maybe one or two that we could venture to use. All of the photos where super bright and you could tell that there had been a ton of over editing done to them. We wanted the more natural look to them. Some of them were even way too dark to where you couldn't see anything because if the black and white affect. My fiance got so mad and raged that she wrote a nagative review on thumbtack. I felt pretty bad and wanted to just be done with everything and she kept asking us to fix it because this was her business and it would affect it. I'm never the person to want to do harm to anyone or there money making business so I went and rewrote a review. We also paid her and really did not want to, but what goes around comes around so we paid up. We were so done with this that we just said screw it and had our freind who took photo class in high school do out pictures at the beach. Mid you this guys are young and did it more to help us out because of what had happened. Let me tell you that not for nothing, but all they're pictures came out better then hers even without any editing done to them. She emailed me and said that she had notice that we didn't download any of the imagines that she had taken and to do it before a date because they would come down off the site. I really didn't want any of the photos, but I had spent a butt load of the money $450 for pictures that we'll never use so I just picked a few and download them. My fiance wants nothing to do with them or her or her work. I don't blame her. We really got the short end of the stick here. It is what it is. We live and learn. She also asked me to copy and paste the better review that I left on thumbtack, but I can't I'm sick of not voicing what is the truth. If you want good picture look around, if you don't care and need something give it a chance. We sure won't. It's a good thing we saw this now because we were thinking of using her for our wedding photos. That would have been a disaster.... The truth hurts sometimes. Good luck. read more

I unfortunately had a very similar situation to Laura M, which started in the summer of 2015. She rescheduled multiple times, gave us a hard time with selecting the birth announcements, took 2 months to get them straightened out and delivered, and then only delivered half the amount of images I had paid for. I had recently hired Emily Main Photography for a family session. With multiple family members involved in this shoot, picking a date became some sort of fete. Emily was more than accommodating to our multiple schedule changes. She was professional, prompt to emails, phone calls regarding basic questions and offered different ideas to help make this session memorable.
