My experience with Emily Rubenstein was life changing. I am a single mother with three daughters one of whom has life-threatening medical issues. I had lived separated from my husband for 10 years with very little money when I finally got the courage to start my divorce. I began with a different lawyer who was reputed to be kind of a pit bull but very good and expensive. Unfortunately she (my first lawyer, NOT Emily) was also terrible to me, unorganized, unethical in her billing, wouldn't respond to my ex's settlement offer, and was slapdash in her approach to my case, not telling me I needed to respond to discovery until I only had a week left to do so. I contacted Emily in despair. She took the reins immediately starting with handling the turnover from the old lawyer, handling problems with my ex, and got everything organized and back under control. She kept me informed and calm. She was gentle and compassionate but also realistic and honest with me to properly set my expectations. The mediation brief she wrote was a work of art - so persuasive, incorporating solid research and bolstered by specific and complete evidence. In the end she was able to more than double what I was getting in child support and getting my ex to pay for my medically fragile child's insurance until 26. After being a client for over a year, I required their services again as my exhusband came after me to nullify my divorce decree. My previous attorney, Krystal, was leaving the practice so they handed me off to another new attorney who neither knew me nor my case. I was charged over $16,000 for her to "get caught up" and attend one court date with me. I was advised to say nothing and let her do all the talking. She literally said the worst thing she could have for my case and I had to sit there, listen and say nothing. When I called her out afterwards, she assured me that it was part of her "strategy." Seems like an odd strategy to hurt my case in court. I had to fire them before it cost me another cent. I should have been refunded 100% as this practice went from being one in which I felt safe and protected to one that was happy to accept my money without regard to my needs. I would not recommend this company. I booked a consultation just to get acquainted and see if they'd be a good fit to review a straightforward prenuptial agreement. The appointment was confirmed, but then they suddenly canceled and refused to even have a phone conversation. They claimed the attorney drafting my prenup was out of state -- which was completely false -- and made no effort to verify anything with me. It felt rushed, careless, and dismissive. I would not feel confident booking any future appointment with them, as they clearly have no problem canceling without warning and offering meaningless excuses. Contacted the office scheduled an initial meeting through their website. Took two weeks to get a meeting. The representative was very nice. However it seems this firm is only interested in easy situations. She heard this is a 35 year marriage and that we have a business and are amicably dividing things, and pretty much cut the conversation short and referred me to a larger Beverly Hills attorney who charges many ten's of thousands of dollars and who's Yelp is disgraceful for overcharging and under delivering. I am guessing Rubenstein's firm gets a referral fee for doing nothing? Don't waste your precious time and get an attorney that is responsive doesn't leave you hanging for weeks and then disappoints by sending you to a schiester to waste your money while giving agita. Given the fact that it is never easy to go through a situation where you need her services, she made the whole process so much easier than it may have been.
