My parents received fliers from Make a Wish asking for donations such as household items, toys, etc. Since they were incidentally in midst of moving, they went through things and neatly packaged 10+ large bags of toys and clothing, and household items. They called ahead to schedule a pickup and later also called to confirm and left messages. On the scheduled day (also written on the flyer), they set the items out on the curb during early morning waiting for pickup. Being senior folks themselves, they went through a lot of trouble and carried many bags of heavy items to the curb. Yet the donation pickup NEVER CAME. NO CALL NO SHOW NADA. At the end of the day, they had to go out and drag everything back themselves. With intentions to help and make a difference, they were left disappointed, angry and with an injured back. ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT BE SOLICITING FOR DONATIONS. THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO PUT THE DONATIONS TO GOOD USE. WE WILL NOT BE SUPPORTING THIS CAUSE AGAIN.

One of the biggest red flags was being asked to send copies of my DD-214 containing sensitive personal identifiable information directly to a phone number. At no point was it clarified whether this was a secure work device or a personal cellphone. I was never offered a professional email address or secure document portal, which I found highly questionable given the nature of the documents involved. While I complied in an effort to move the process along, I was not comfortable doing so. In my experience, reputable organizations handling veterans' records typically have clear procedures and safeguards in place for transmitting sensitive information. Beyond the privacy concerns, the conversation itself was frustrating and unprofessional. Instead of feeling heard, I felt repeatedly invalidated, challenged, and put on the defensive regarding my own experiences and concerns. The interaction came across as passive-aggressive and unnecessarily contrarian. I also found it inappropriate that examples of other veterans' personal struggles were repeatedly brought into the conversation as comparisons. I contacted the organization for assistance with my own situation, not to hear about or be compared against the hardships of others. It felt dismissive and unprofessional. What should have been a supportive interaction instead felt judgmental and disrespectful. Trust and professionalism are critical when working with vulnerable veterans, and unfortunately I did not experience either here. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage others to exercise caution when sharing sensitive personal information and to ask questions about how documents are being stored and protected before sending anything. I am a graduate student at the University of Texas at Arlington. I worked here last year as a…read moresocial work intern. I worked from January to April of 2023. I worked in the Information Center (IC). I barely learned anything about social work. Making phone calls and providing people resources for shelter is the ONLY thing I learned. I spent all of my time in the IC giving clients their mail, badges, unclogging toilets, toilet paper, baby products, hair care products, cleaning products, and over the counter meds which has nothing to do with social work. My field supervisor (Brandy) told me and my field liaison that I was going to learn about intakes in March, and then she turned around and said that I will be learning about intakes starting in June. My field supervisor terminated me in April and claimed that I was not upbeat, had poor social skills, and depressed. I regret discussing my depression and what I was going through at home to employees, and I had no idea that you could get terminated for that. But see, I never worked before, and so I am new to the workplace. I regret telling people who I don't know about my personal life, and oftentimes, I have a habit of ranting and getting things off of my chest, but I still believe that I shouldn't have gotten fired over that. It's whatever, I guess! My positive attitude and work ethic are what matters. I also noticed that I was the only social work intern who did not get a chance to learn about case management, and I believe it's due to the fact that I am Black. One of the directors (Misty) said that I looked depressing and intimidating. I should have reported her for saying that to me because her comment about me was very disrespectful and bigoted. Employees and interns in the IC should NOT be handling client's prescribed medications. Samaritan Inn needs to be reported! I was kind, respectful, and worked hard. I worked so hard there for no pay, and what did I get? Nothing, but a stupid thank you card in the mail. Ridiculous! Please DO NOT come to this place. You'll definitely regret it.

I would suggest donating to Grace Grapevine, they are so kind and more Christ like than the people representing the financial assistance office at CCA. I seen a caseworker at the front desk at Grace Grapevine hugging someone who came in for assistance. They are so nice and patient. I love the positivity they give off. On Monday November 25, 2024 I arrive at CCA at 9am to fill out an application for rental assistance. When you walk in you're required to grab a number. I grabbed my number and I was #51. I didn't have all my documentation ready so I did have to use their printing room while I was waiting to be called. CCA takes walk ins from 9am to 11am (if your number isn't called by 11am then you have to come back at 1pm, as they close the office for lunch from 11am to 1pm.) Unfortunately my number.was not called by 11am so I had to come back. When you return to the office you're required to pull a new number (so you'll have a new place in line.) I got back in line at 11:50am at the front door (first in line.) The doors opened back at 1pm, grabbed my number. My number was called around 1:05pm. I went to the front desk, the rude woman checked to make sure I had all my documents. I was missing my ledger. I requested my landlord send it to me. He was able to send it about an hour later (maybe a little over.) In order to receive an appointment with the caseworker, you have to have all documentation ready. The rude lady looked over my ledger and added it to my documentation in which she kept and created me a file. Now that I had all my documentation, I was given an appointment for Monday December 2 at 9:45am. On Monday, December 2, which is today I arrived at 9:40 AM , spoke with the rude lady at the front to inform her I was there for my appointment. She said "okay you can have a seat." Right as I was about to walk to my seat she got my attention so I turned back around and she asked (while holding my ledger in her hand) "are you more than one month behind on rent, because we're only helping for December..?" I informed her that I was more than one month behind on rent, and that she should be aware of that because she has all my documentation and a form clearly stating that I am more than one month behind. She then says "Well, unfortunately I have to cancel your appointment and we cannot help you. Per our guidelines you can not be more than one month behind. Of course I was disappointed and I told her it was okay for me to only receive one month help, my landlord is doing his best to work with me. I also said to her "You knew I was more than one month behind a week ago. Why would you even waste my time coming up here?" Genuine question. People make mistakes and I would've accepted and appreciated if she told me that she overlooked it, but nope the rude lady got Loud (at a Christian organization..) I'm the only one that should be frustrated, I am behind on my bills and being told they can't help me after spending 8 hours of my life at CCA. I would've rather spent that 8 hours volunteering there because they clearly need more reps assisting the amount of people coming in requesting help. They need loving help. People who have a passion in helping and serving. Although I am sad and very disappointed that I won't be able to get the help that I need. I am more disappointed in the way that I was treated and talk to. Not once did I get loud (raise my tone.) The representative at the front desk needs to be talked to and reminded that that is a Christian organization and she should be a rep representing Jesus Christ. I am being very honest when I say that your donation should go elsewhere. I am a single mother and I am five months pregnant. I am very emotional right now and that lady, that rude lady needs to learn how to talk to people.
