Super helpful staff! They helped me calculate size of canvas and yarn needed for a custom project. Very reasonable prices. Thank you!

Cashier spent way too long mansplaining the difference between japanese and american card sleeves to her... which is funny because my girlfriend works full time at a nearby shop selling cards. Then he made a joke about her unusual name and insinuated she stole the one full art card she had brought in to trade. She said it made her feel very awkward and out of place just because she's a woman... We've been several times before with no issues but it was a really disappointing and weird trip this time.

Me and my friend have been coming to this store to buy and sell Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, but…read moreour experience has been bad enough that we'll never come back. We brought in high-value Pokémon cards -- including a $300 Mewtwo from the new Destined Rivals set -- and were told it was only worth a fraction of the value because of a nearly invisible scratch. We were offered just $400 total for a group of cards worth around $800. We also brought in Yu-Gi-Oh! cards worth over $130, including an $80 card, and were offered only $17 for all of them. The staff claimed they use TCGPlayer to check prices, but when we used the same app ourselves, their offers didn't come close to market value. We even bought a $200 Japanese booster box, and later found out it sells for around $80 online -- and it didn't come sealed in the official plastic. We pulled nothing from it, not even a single holo or full art, which was suspicious. The customer service is extremely unprofessional. We've been ignored while trying to ask questions, and in one case, an employee responded to me with a slur when I asked a simple question about what the store sold. I'm a minor, and that interaction stuck with me -- it was disrespectful and unnecessary. Some of the employees are also rude or sarcastic when responding to customers, especially if you challenge the price they offer you. The only person who's ever been respectful to us was a tall, light-skinned guy with an afro. He actually said "thank you" and treated us like we mattered. Everyone else made us feel like a joke. This place lowballs on purpose and doesn't treat young customers with any respect. If you care about your cards and want fair treatment, I'd suggest going anywhere else.

To begin with, I'm not a Lego person. I can appreciate it, but it's not my thing. My husband,…read morehowever, is. We don't have kids, but in the de Taylor household, I have to watch where I step, because there may be a Lego underfoot. Accordingly, my husband asked if we could stop by Brick Loot on the way home from Beyond the Cheddar Curtain, and I'm a team player. It's a pretty adorable store. The owner's dad** said that he has three main things that the store does. First, there's a monthly loot box for subscribers. Secondly, they sell lighting kits for legos. Finally, they sell legos themselves. It's not a huge shop, so it's not an alternative for going to the lego store. However, they have a lot of clever kits that I think the owner or the owner's dad put together, as well as the light kits and various spare parts. It's definitely a neat place to go for a lego enthusiast. The only thing I'd suggest is getting a "partner's chair" for when a partner comes along for the ride. However, I imagine that would also inspire inattentive parents to sit down and let their kids run wild, so perhaps that's not a good idea after all! ** The owner's dad was very clear that his 12 year old son was the owner and brain behind the operation, which I find pretty adorable too.

I grew up in Glenview and have been a patron here for years; recent purchases include two giant panda 'gold' coins ; articles from the 60s and (eg Kennedy assasination; Moon Landing); an antique jewelry piece. Oh, 'Don't Get Me Wrong'-- ( Pretenders! Song 1980s ) I am a SHOE- MUSIC- BOOKS -BALLET and-'Any Girly-Girl Clothing Item that SPARKLES' girl. ( Chocolate brownies, GOOD smoothies that do NOT taste like chalk, and original Frango Mints too, but those are different stories). (Career path is mixed-- more in the health, dance and general retail arena than anywhere in my undergraduate area of study). But with my undergraduate degree in History and a former tutor who sometimes wanted to treat my regular students to items of interest, more meaningful than a gift card -- this was and is the place to shop. John, the owner, and his staff ( Matt; Luke) offer INTEGRITY, professional knowledge and great customer service. Store is 'eclectic' but clean (and all protocol followed in regard to COVID-19/aka SARS-CoV-2). I think of this store as a 'mini-Museum' when I cannot spend a full day at one-- Highly recommend this store; Glenview Coins and Collectibles has been a fixture in Glenview for many years, and their reputation is well-earned.
