Winter classes have arrived and all sorts of interesting new shapes are starting to form! I've known Dominic for over 14 years, and I have to say that he is very much the most knowledgeable pottery instructor I've met. He's kind and patient for those who show an honest interest. (This is sadly not something I can say of many random Evanston folks who wander into the shop looking for a free handout, or have the self-centered ego to interrupt a class in session...) Pro Tip: The best times to stop by and ask questions are in-between classes, because classes require the full attention of Dominic and his associates, so be sure to call ahead before stopping in to check out the studio! If you've never taken pottery before, an 8-week introductory course might be the thing you need for an indoor past time to learn how to play in the clay. The cost of a class includes enough clay to make several things, glazing, firing, instruction, and access to the studio on open hours. The gallery at the shop has a wide variety of affordable hand-made gifts if you don't have the time or skill to make your own! ~ Maybe I'll see you in class! read more

Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience here. I noticed the teacher/owner overcharges for clay and won't allow you to purchase clay elsewhere. He charges $40-48 for 25lbs of clay where as other studios charge around $18-20. He also gives them to you in 12.5lbs loose bags that aren't their original bags. I've also found mold on a lot of the bats that you use to place your pieces on. In addition, he is not professional. He made offensive comments on multiple occasions, such as "my parents paid my way" or asking "why my jeans look like that". Note: I'm in my late twenties with a good career and he knows nothing of my personal life. After a very upsetting comment during studio time I let him know I was no longer comfortable coming here and wanted a refund for the remainder (more than half) of time left. He refused and said he didn't do anything wrong. There are better studios. Much better. Don't waste you time and money here. read more

Was able to accommodate an adult function (birthday/baby/bridal) on short notice. Party under 10 people had a good time and everyone got to make something. Was able to bring in food and drinks. Plenty of room for everything. Would give more stars if allowable. read more

I love taking classes at The Pot Shop - it's absolutely my creative outlet for the week. Dominic has been a great teacher and friend and we truly enjoy our classmates as well. I've walked past for a couple years and finally decided to sign up for classes. So glad I did! Dominic and the instructors are very friendly and knowledgeable and make each class fun and entertaining. The space is brightly lit and open and the wheels face each other in a row which makes for a great view during demonstrations. The classes are 3 hours which fly by way too fast. Fortunately there are open studio hours for students outside of scheduled classes and during class if there are wheels available. Overall, this is a fabulous place to take classes if you've ever had any interest in learning how to throw pottery on a wheel. read more

I took classes here two summers ago and it was quite a disappointing experience. I found Dominic to be rather rude at times. I certainly never found him to be funny. They also totally threw away my pieces. I remember asking them to hold on to them till Thanksgiving and they said they would. When I returned, I couldn't spot a single vase I had made. When I asked them, they said they must've been thrown out because I didn't communicate that they should be kept. UGH. I was beyond irritated by that one. I recently started taking a class at Penguin Foot Pottery and find it to be such a better experience! The Pot Shop sucks. read more

We held my daughter's birthday party at The Pot Shop. Dominic was a great instructor and related to the kids. The pottery turned out great. I highly recommend this venue for birthday parties...as a parent it was nice to be only in charge of bringing the cake. read more

I have been taking pottery classes from Dominic for years. I enjoy his teaching methods, his patience, and generosity. It's also a lot of fun working in a small "community" of potters. I never laugh as much as I do during class. I have taken pottery classes at other studios, but return for the value and friendliness of the Pot Shop. read more

I went here for a Bridal Shower, and it was a lot of fun. We all made bowls or turtles, which was easy enough. The bridal party was allowed to bring in food and set up ahead of time, and it was a great space to mingle. It was sunny on our visit, so the sunlight coming into the work area of the shop was really great. I thought the instructor was a great mix of sassy and informative. read more

Dominic is a great teacher - he is obviously super talented (just look in his shop!), he has the patience of a saint, and a good sense of humor as well. I am reviewing the pot shop classes since I ahve not purchased anything at the store. This is a great pottery class (i took beginners, am starting intermediate). Dominic is very friendly and adapts very well to the different level of the students. The atmosphere is very friendly and every body learns from each other. What I love about these classes is that you have access to the workshop when it is open and they are opened until 9pm or 10pm most weekdays because they hold classes. I am soo glad the potshop is here!! read more

The Pot Shop is a wonderful place to unwind and learn the basics of wheel pottery in a few sessions. Dominic Mosca, the owner, is not only a master potter but a wonderful teacher as well. Our class is/was truly a community of learners with the more experienced students helping us at the novice level. If you don't want to learn to throw pottery but want to own wonderful pieces, stop by the shop and pick out something beautiful, from mugs to pitchers to plant pots to large bowls; you will love owning these beautiful, artistic, one-of-a-kind pieces, which are also a great idea for gifts. read more
