I found Emma's Alterations through a bit of research and a friend who had heard that she was good. I had ordered a dress from Spain for a black tie wedding and when it came, it looked ridiculous on me. It was not easy to do a return with the tariff so I brought it to Emma to ask her opinion. It was a very complicated project, and the work that she did to transform the dress into something exactly right was just amazing. She had to take the entire dress apart, make a new bodice and waistline and remove a lot of of the fabric and padding. She was a pleasure to work with and took her time, with various fittings and different options for me to choose. And her work was impeccable. Emma is not just a seamstress, she has the eye and skill of an artist and artisan. It fit perfectly, was beautifully sewn, and honestly felt like a couture gown. Every part of it fit perfectly - she essentially made me an entirely new dress. And did not overcharge at all, in fact the opposite. I wore the dress last weekend to the wedding and have never gotten so many compliments on anything I have worn. I can't recommend Emma's Alterations more highly. I will forever be indebted to Emma & her team. The night before my rehearsal I tried on my wedding dress...and it simply didn't fit. I had had it altered in NY and it was so tight I was genuinely worried the seam would bust. I had this dress made for me so the alterations were minimal but because of them I couldn't breathe. But then my MOH called Emma's Alterations and told them the situation and they truly came to the rescue. Within the same day they had completely adjusted the dress and changed out the zipper. If it weren't for them and their extremely hard work and expertise, I'm sure my wedding would have been great, but I would've never been able to truly enjoy it the way I did. I cannot extend enough thanks to them for getting this job done so quickly and SO WELL. With such a sentimental piece of clothing it can be scary to trust someone to work on it, but I promise you they take the same care with your garments as they would with their own. I drive all the way from south beach any time I need an alteration. Emma can do everything from basic repairs to redesigning your dress.

I came to Emma for her to design my dream wedding dress and the entire experience was dreadful. I dropped off all the supplies for the dress a year in advance and she assured me that the dress would be done 2 months before the wedding and i just picked up my dress (8 days away from my wedding). Every time the timeline was stretched out she would tell me that she had other projects to work on that she would put before my dress. My mother and I took off work and came to the shop on multiple occasions with an appointment only to be turned away because she had forgotten about the appointment date. There were so many mistakes that I pointed out multiple times that took forever to resolve. On the day of pick up one of the buttons was hanging on by a thread and there were 2 blood stains on the dress. I thought that she would at least give me a discount after such a poor experience but she charged me full price. If you need anything more than a shirt fixed, I highly recommend going elsewhere. If you are a bride, run in the other direction and don't let your wedding dress experience be ruined like mine was. read more

Emma was not professional with a wedding dress that I took to her for minor alterations. Her work was sloppy at best. Her attitude was extremely rude. The dress was brand new when I took it to her and by second fitting it looked old, ragged, wrinkled and it was stained in several places. She blamed me by saying she had received the dress in that condition which was an outright blatant lie. This was a wedding dress and Emma was a terrible horrible nightmare. I don't know what she did with the cover that I delivered the dress to her in because she returned the dress without a cover, very wrinkled and stained. She had the dress for 2 months and the dress looked like she had given or rented it to somebody to wear because it was dirty and stained and looked USED as if in a thrift store. The dress also had a very bad funky odor and did not smell good. I had to spend $300 to a dry cleaning store to make the dress look presentable. Take my advice and go somewhere else. read more

Parkin: Store is located in small shopping plaza and there is a small parking lot for customers. Service: Very nice, hard working employees. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and asked about what services I was interested in. I had brought two evening gowns to have altered but after they saw them on they recommended only to do one. Time: My dress was completed on time which was less than a week Overall experience: Really good. The reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because they ended up charging me more than they originally told me. I would have appreciated a follow up call explaining the status of the alteration and how the dress gave more work than originally thought and that they would have to increase the cost of the service. I've been going to Emma for almost 15 years. I won't take my expensive clothes to get altered with anyone but Emma. Amazing quality work I recommend them to all my friends. I even took a couture piece to her after gaining weight I unfortunately ripped the seam after over indulging at dinner. Took various bridal outfits to be fitted (robe, romper, 2 dresses) and they messed up 3/4 pieces I took. Emma is good and was able to fix 1 of the mistakes but the other lady does a lazy job. For instance, for one of the robes I took in, the sleeves were too long and had lace at the bottom of the sleeve by the wrists. Instead of shortening at the shoulder to make sleeves shorter, she rolled the bottom of the sleeves by the wrist and rolled it up, ruining the lace! She did the same thing for a dress that I took in, and when I lift my arms the sleeves look 3/4 length. Overall, don't take any expensive dresses here for bridal events, total disaster I would never go again, no matter how close they are to my house. I'm so sad I'll never get my money back on those beautiful dresses that they ruined. Not worth it. read more

I got my wedding dress at a specialty consignment shop, La Vie En Blanc. It was perfect, but probably about 2-3 sizes too big. I read about Emma here on Yelp and she did a phenomenal job in adjusting the dress perfectly to my size. She shortened the length which was no easy task with the lace and numerous layers, and she also took it in to make it stay on (strapless dress). She replaced the buttons and made the dress fit me like a glove. She also created a bustle which shortened my dress for dancing. I was a little nervous because it felt tight... Hard to breathe tight, but I'm glad I listened to her because once I had the dress on for 1/2 hour it loosened up and was very comfortable. Had I not taken her advice I could have had a serious wardrobe malfunction!! Haha! Other than the dress fitting perfectly, Emma was very sweet and very accommodating with the appointments for the fittings. I was able to take the dress home after the third fitting and the price for all that work was extremely reasonable. Really happy with the service and thanks Yelp for telling me about it. I have a jacket that needs to be altered at least a whole size down. Emma greeted me warmly the moment I went in. She had the jacket ready a day before promised, did a great job, charged a very reasonable price, emailed me the receipt so I can submit to my company. Funny thing though, when I told my husband, he wanted to shorten some jeans, but Emma quoted him $15 each. Which is curiously high for such a simple job, especially consider how much she charged for my whole thing. Let's just start by throwing it out there that I have always been (since preschool) the girl that wears clothes that are too big for her. That's actually how some parents knew who I was when I was a kid. I try to learn, I have fashionable friends- I will never be like them. So when I bought a dress for a black tie wedding - surprise! - it was too big on me and I had no idea. Another successful Yelp search led me to Emma's and I wouldn't have it any other way! The ladies took one look at the dress and knew exactly what was wrong and how to fix it. I walked in on a Saturday and asked for it to be complete by Thursday- they told me to come by Wednesday. I was a bit nervous that the prices weren't posted anywhere because I felt they could just be throwing out an arbitrary amount depending on the person but l think I got a decent deal for a great quality of work. I recommend asking beforehand so you're not shocked by a price upon pickup! I definitely recommend this place and think I'll be back next time I need work done on an outfit. read more

Emma is a lifesaver! Outstanding customer service and attention to detail. Delivered way earlier than promised which completely put her over the top in my ratings scale. I'm new to Miami and hadn't needed alterations since I moved here. Since I had a wedding to attend and I didn't want to go with the alterations places near Brickell, I used Yelp to find another option. Emma is in the Grove and had great reviews so I decided to give her a try. When you get to her shop, they welcome you as if you were an old friend. They make you feel so good and at ease (I'm assuming they're so good at this bc they know people are usually needing alterations last minute and are stressed). I left my fitting feeling great and confident they would do a great job. Note: if you're use to getting a formal drop-off receipt, etc. don't freak-out by their manual hand written notes when you drop off dress. When you come back to pay she's high tech w an iPad and electronic receipts. They estimated 8 days (not a bad turn around and I had plenty of time). She worked a miracle and delivered in 2 days! 2 days people, that's during the busy Christmas season and a full shop. Amazing!! Go see Emma! I know I will be back and will be recommending her to all! I came here after reading good reviews. I brought a very expensive fabric for her to make the top part of my wedding dress. The whole process with this lady was very painful. I gave her a picture and specified what I wanted. It came out NOTHING like the picture and she would lie to my face saying I asked her for it. I accepted the fact that it was not going to look like the picture and just let her finish what she started since she already had cut the fabric. On the following fitting I realize I can't put my arms up (it was a long sleeve top) so obviously she had yo fix this and she charged me $150 more because she said I made "changes" to the dress. I may be ignorant to this manner but I don't think it's a "change" when the professional seamstress measures you and does the sleeves wrong!!!! This was my wedding dress and I has to wear something I did not love because of this VERY UNPROFESSIONAL lady! The finishes of what she did we're extremely sloppy and cheap looking. She may be great for fixing the length of some people's pants but she can't build cloth! DO NOT GO HERE! ALSO, she charged one of my bridesmaids $70 dollars to fix the length of the dress.. The others found a place 2 blocks from there where they did it for $25!!! Also, she changes the prices all the time. There was this other bride there who she did the same thing too!! Emma just didn't do what the bride asked for! And then she treated the girl horrible like she was crazy!! read more

Whatever you do, do not bring any of your garments to this joke of a business. Emma is the most unprofessional and unorganized business owner I have met thus far. She takes ZERO pride in her work and it really shows. She is all around sloppy. After reading good reviews here I decided to trust her with my $300 a yard designer fabric to make a very simple dress with. From the first time I met her she was aloof and disinterested and borderline rude but I did not care so long as she did a good job on my dress. I should have taken those initial warning signs and left right then and there. She leaves me a voicemail a few weeks after I drop off my dress to come in and try it on while it is pinned together to ensure it fits before she cuts and sows it. I arrive a few days later and she is staring at me blankly and tells me she does not remember calling me and she hasn't even started my dress. I missed work and drove there for nothing. No apology, she could care less. Wait a few more weeks with me repeatedly calling her to remind her to work on my dress and it is finally ready to try on. The Pucci fabric has a beautiful swirl design but right when I try it on you can tell she put no thought into cutting it and piecing it together so the most flattering parts of the swirls fall on the front part of my dress. She carelessly cut it and put the nicest part of the design on the back of the dress. I ask her to reverse it and shorten the hem and since it is only pinned in place this is no big deal and she agrees to do it. Fast Forward a few more weeks, I go to pick up the finished dress and try it on and find several stains on both the front and back of my dress! See photos. I point this out to her and immediately she is defensive and dismissive and says that it is not her problem and the fabric was like that. I thoroughly inspected the fabric when it was being cut where I bought it and it went straight into tissue paper and a bag. IT WAS NOT PURCHASED WITH STAINS. When looking around her store it is easy to see that she is a mess and everywhere you look there are crumbs, dust, and hairballs so I am sure the back where they work on the dresses is just as bad. She reluctantly agrees to send it to the cleaners but treats it like no big deal and she could care less. I come in today to pick up my dress and while some of the stains did fade with the cleaning some are still very visible especially one that is front and center on dress. At this point I just want to pay and never deal with Emma again so I shrug it off until she tells me it is $100. When I initially took it she had told me $70. She says when I raised the hem that was more work so now it's $100. After all these issues and this women ruining my dress by staining it, she not only doesn't apologize for anything, she has the nerve to try to charge me more money! You tell a customer about added costs prior to doing the work so they can agree to it. You do not try and be deceptive and say nothing and figure they will be suckers and pay. That was the last straw and at that point I refused to pay anymore than what I originally paid to which she responded by attacking my character and calling me a "spoiled brat" among other things. It is NEVER acceptable for a business owner to insult and call their clients names. There is no excuse for her behavior. This just shows how classless and unprofessional Emma is. She was a complete nightmare to deal with and is a terrible seamstress. Avoid her and her sorry shop at all cost! read more

I feel so lucky to have been introduced to this business and Emma Vicuna through a family friend. I'd recommend the services of Emma and her shop for any size job. First just needing a few simple hems, I found Emma to be affordable and quite quick. Then, I tested out her skills with a couple of dresses & pants that just didn't fit quite right. What she was able to accomplish to reshape the garments to suit my body was amazing. Finally, I didn't think twice about going to Emma to create the attire for my wedding. We started when I gave her just two photos of the front of a dress and a back (two different dresses), and she asked me some questions about the flow, style and feel I was going for. A fun trip to the fabric shop yielded the perfect silk, and Emma was off! A true professional with fittings to meet my work schedule, and to make sure that you "measure twice, cut once," Emma took my first experience with custom clothing and made it the least stressful part of the wedding planning. **Also, I just have to make mention for my "community" - Emma and the team at the fabric store didn't balk one bit about working on dresses for a lesbian wedding. She seemed as enthusiastic and gracious for our event as I could have ever wanted. I was so thrilled to work with someone who didn't make me feel like I had apologize for wanting the white dress, but also she made custom adjustments for the suit that I wore to the reception. Yes, I was that bride that got really excited about getting engaged that I went dress shopping too quickly and picked the wrong dress. 3 months before my wedding, I found another one at a sample sale. I fell in love, except it was 4 sizes too big. Emma worked wonders on my dress. She worked in two parts: first she took the skirt away from the bodice. She shortened the bodice and even lowered the back. Then she adjusted the skirt and put the dress back together. Through the whole process, she cares about your dress.
