There is a playground area on the other side of the park. Apparently parents at the park don't want some rando guy with no kids playing on the playground equipment. At least that is what the police officer told me. I think the kids were just pissed because I was wining at "king of the mountain". Park is located in downtown and is next to the Neuse river. Parking is free in the area. It's a nice little park and I give it a solid 4 stars.

The rest is five stars--bandshell for outdoor concerts, picnic shelter, shade canopies, solar-powered lights, interactive multi-piece colorful interactive ACCESSIBLE playground, clean artifcial playground surfacing, paved walking trail (with a storybook theme), dedicated parking lot and meaningful memorials. Thanks to the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund, Kinston/Lenoir County Parks and Recreation Department and partners for making this park happen. If you haven't been to Kinston, NC, lately, check it out. This playground is part of a downtown revitalization going strong.

Now it should be mentioned that I am looking at this park during the winter months, but there are still some glaring areas that need attention. There are many spots through the park with low lying areas that contain stagnant water that during the spring summer and fall will be breeding mosquitoes. Need to eliminate them with some fill dirt and reseed before it is too late to do so. You will spend more on chemicals to get rid of the bugs and will also drive out those people attempting to enjoy the park. As for the Disc Golf course, I got lost after hole 12. None of the tee boxes are concreted in. They are all mud holes. They need some help. I will re-review in Mid Spring.

The Ayden District Dog Park is a relatively new addition to the town of Ayden. I believe many…read morepeople still do not know about its existence. Given the relative dearth of dog parks in the area, this is such a welcomed feature for this side of town, saving many folks the drive to the Greenville Off Leash Dog Area. What I have heard others say about Ayden's Dog Park - and what I have witnessed myself - is the quality of the turf. The ground is hard and the grass is thick and covered, making it a nice and relatively clean place for dogs to run around and play, even after there's been some rain. My dog and I really enjoyed it here when we came to visit from Greenville, though the only downside (or not? depending...) is that I have never seen another dog there (yet). I do not think it has grown in popularity such that you can expect another playmate at all times. Sometimes, that is good, though, leaving more room for you to play with your fur baby!

There are two dog runs, both seem about the same size. Had a great time today playing with my very active dog! It makes for a nice change from the yard and he got to do a ton of sniffing. They have bags available for picking up dog doo and trash cans to dispose of it, and when it isn't winter it looks like they have water available (as well as restrooms in a short walking distance, also closed in winter). Note that it might not be perfect for those who want to throw frizbees or shoot balls out as far as they can; the runs aren't very big. A large dog can still run, just not for very long unless it wants to do a bunch of cornering. If you have an adopted greyhound, it would be too small for a safe full-speed run (though still way better than nothing).

Brock Mill Pond Park is operated by the Friends of Brock Mill and Jones County. The tranquil atmosphere and scenic views of the pond make it a pleasant spot to stretch your legs or enjoy a moment of reflection. However, today the stillness of the water seemed to invite an unwelcome crowd--mosquitoes were out in full force, making the visit a bit less comfortable than usual. Despite the buzzing company, the park's charm and historical significance still shine through. Settlement of the site goes back to the early 1700s, when the first mill was built along Crooked Run Creek. Over the centuries, the site evolved through various owners and names, including Hatch's Mill and McDaniel's Mill, before becoming Brock Mill in 1899. The current mill house, constructed in the 1940s, replaced an earlier structure and continued producing cornmeal, grits, and livestock feed until its commercial operations ceased in 1964. Notably, Mr. Brock installed a turbine generator in 1916, bringing electricity to Trenton well before the Rural Electrification Act, marking the site as both a historical and technological landmark. From the Navy jet that greets you at the entry parking lot to the boat launches to the picnic pavilions to the boardwalk and trails, you'll find plenty of reasons to visit this park again and again! We enjoyed a picnic on Jack's Island. It's a little oasis in the park with picnic tables surrounded by water views! The trails are easy to walk and very accessible. Plus, did I mention the water views! So much better than walking around your boring neighborhood, right? Make sure you stop and enjoy this treat!

You can see glimpses of the park along the I-70 freeway on the south side of the Neuse River Bridge. There are boat launch areas and lots of beautiful wooden walkways with small fishing piers, benches, picnic areas, trails, a playground and the feel and scents of a marine environment. We discovered this fascinating, historical 'boat hauling machine' at one of the parking areas. The park is a great location to explore, exercise, fish, and relax.
