There is a playground area on the other side of the park. Apparently parents at the park don't want some rando guy with no kids playing on the playground equipment. At least that is what the police officer told me. I think the kids were just pissed because I was wining at "king of the mountain". Park is located in downtown and is next to the Neuse river. Parking is free in the area. It's a nice little park and I give it a solid 4 stars.

The rest is five stars--bandshell for outdoor concerts, picnic shelter, shade canopies, solar-powered lights, interactive multi-piece colorful interactive ACCESSIBLE playground, clean artifcial playground surfacing, paved walking trail (with a storybook theme), dedicated parking lot and meaningful memorials. Thanks to the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund, Kinston/Lenoir County Parks and Recreation Department and partners for making this park happen. If you haven't been to Kinston, NC, lately, check it out. This playground is part of a downtown revitalization going strong.

The recreation center is ADA accessible and includes an aerobics/dance room, gymnasium and some multi-purpose rooms. Outside, there is a baseball diamond, basketball court, picnic shelters, playground and tennis court. The entrance caption reads, "Welcome to Kinston Music Park, gateway to the African American Music Trails of Eastern North Carolina. This is a medium sized park and includes a raised stage area and a shaded area for spectators. It is not a large space. There is street parking. There isn't much shade (I guess you wouldn't want leaves falling into the pool) but that will make it super hot on a summer day. There is a tennis court but it needs resurfacing and some equipment because right now it looks like a very strange parking lot. The only decent thing here is the picnic shelter which does have a grill nearby but there is only one table in the shelter and one of them dragged out of the shelter. What? Lots of trash cans and plenty of doggie bags in the play areas. Not to mention the really cool agility course *the only thing.... there was a lot of glass on the path around the right side of pond trail
