Emma's is a great addition to the Lauraville/Hamilton neighborhood. The entire experience is like being transported to a quaint little shoppe in jolly old England. The restaurant has seating to accommodate small and larger parties without feeling crowded. Nice decorum, very friendly and accommodating staff and most enjoyable - the food. My lunch mate and I had high tea, which included a pot of tea (your choice of a variety) sardies, or tea sandwiches as they're called, scones, fruit and a selection of tarts and mini cupcakes. I made reservations weeks in advance for a Sunday for my aunt and I, we had a great experience and it was definitely worth the wait! Sunday has free parking out front but other days have meters. We came a little early for our reservation and were able to be seated. The restaurant itself is so cute and has some British items (tea, chocolate, etc.) in the back! It is counter service which is nice - you put your order in and then they bring you your tray. It is a great place to be able to catch up! With our reservation we got a 2 hour time slot. There are lots of tea flavors to choose from! And all the food was delicious - it's 3 tiers of sandwiches, biscuits, and sweets. My favorite was the cucumber sandwich and lemon bar! I've never walked out of a restaurant before...but here's to the first! First of all, I had to walk through the valley of the shadow of death to get there. It was something out of the Wire. I had to step over a needle to get in the door. I stood at the door for about 10 minutes, and when no one came to seat me, I went up to the counter. They hurriedly told me they had a spot for me at table 8. No explanation. Just table 8. They handed me a dirty menu and told me I had to order at the counter. The tea selection was limited and they didn't seem to have a grasp on their own menu. I asked for the roast beef sandwich and the worker replied, what's that? I pointed to it on the menu, she looked confused and punched something into the computer. I found table 8, and, to their credit, they had a table set up cute with my name on it. My friend arrives and we wait about 45 minutes and my tea arrived, cold. They informed us that they had "lost the ability to boil water." That their machine that boils the water for them was down. The whole atmosphere was bizarre and I'll NEVER go back. read more

I want to like Emma's, however I have serious beef with this place. One would think a place that serves tea would be an awesome place to stop by in the morning to have a nice warm beverage of high quality- except it's not that kind of place. Apparently they only serve high tea, which is honestly disappointing. You need to have a reservation or they can't serve you. The staff seem overwhelmed and unfriendly. The prices are ridiculous. Their upcoming winter solstice tea, which consists of soup, sandwich, and tea is $60 per person. I think this shop is out of touch with what customers want. High tea on the weekend or a special occasion is nice, but honestly it would be nicer to be able to drop in for a drink and a pastry to go. read more

I visited Emma's Tea Spot for the first time on 7/13/25 with my daughter and my two granddaughters, ages 6 & 8. I arrived earlier than my girls, and when I walked in, I almost turned around and left because the place felt so shabby. They are missing decor from the windows, the floor tiles were cracked up, and the tables were far too rustic for High Tea. The place just felt dingy. But I had made a reservation, and my daughter said the place had great reviews, so I stayed. I went in knowing that the experience would cost me about $150 dollars (incl. tip), but I was sure for that price, I would at least get my money's worth in food. My daughter and I ordered the High Tea ($37 ea.), and my granddaughters had the high tea for kids ($20 ea.). Although the sandwiches, scones, and tiny desserts were tasty, I left feeling like the meal wasn't worth the money. My thin little sandwich barely had any meat on it. I got 1 scone, 2 quarter-sized macaroons, and 1x2 inch lemon bar, and a small bowl of fruit to share with my daughter. My pot of tea was covered with a very worn and dirty cozy, and when I pulled it off to set it aside, the tea pot was damaged. One of my granddaughter's got a tea pot with a crack in it, and on top of that the tea was very weak. I was told it was "counter service only," but they failed to tell me where to get the water. The staff energy was flat and appeared to be completely uninterested in whether the customers were having a good experience. Overall, although the food was tasty, nothing about the experience was worth $150. So much for trying to support local businesses. read more

I came here before a tattoo appointment and it was such a nice place! I've been to places with a larger selection of teas, but the price was definitely reasonable so I can't really complain. I also wasn't super into any of the pastry options they had, like a variety of scones. It was pretty quiet and I scored a table by the window. I got rose white tea and a plain scone. The ladies were so nice, they gave me jam for free since it was my first visit! It did in fact make the scone better. Just to note, I was wondering why the jam was an extra cost but they have single serving jars of jams from I believe a local business so that makes sense to me. I always find Emma's to be a hop, skip and a treat! I have been twice so far and I can see myself going again. I have done the queen bee both times and I highly recommend it! Let's start with a tip. There's is a Hamilton center parking lot behind the restaurant so you don't need to hunt for street parking. Tip 2 - evidently there is a Groupon for this place and if you checking on Yelp there are discounts. We did the high tea for two - each person can choose their own tea. They were out of a couple things sadly, but overall the tea was fragrant and each comes in its own tea cozy. Super cute and fun. You order at the front for everything. The patties were only okay and so were the. Dry small sandwich triangles. For all we spent - we were still hungry. Felt like a lot of sugar. It's hard to decide between three and four stars. Going with three because they were out of so many sandwiches. I feel for them. It was their first day back open and evidently got slammed. They had two people working and what I have to assume was a regular patron who stepped up to help. Really cute inside. Nice tea selections. Tasty sandwiches although we ended up with the cucumber and the tuna/cucumber. Scones were a hair on the dry side but flavorful. Cookies and sweets were very good. Fruit was underwhelming. This is a perfect place to host a party/celebration. I tried the high tea. Pros: There's enough food to satisfy you. The price is reasonable. The staff is friendly and the food comes out quickly. Although I didn't have a reservation, I was able to sit at a table that was occupied as long as I was done before the reservation time. Cons: They didn't have the items that I wanted and I had to settle. The clotted cream and jam jars weren't new on my tray. They were previously used. My friend and I went on Saturday for high tea and we both loved it. I was really impressed by the cozy atmosphere when I walked in. No one greeted us, so we walked up to the counter. We had a reservation and our table was available right away. We ordered at the counter. They ask for payment and a tip UPFRONT. Our food did not come for 1hour and 30 minutes and that was after we asked for it. Almost any restaurant will make a whole fresh meal in much less time. I mean, these are cold sandwiches, premade everything else. And we had to wait another 5 minutes for plates! The tea came even later than that and we had to ask for utensils twice. The sandwiches were ok, the tea was okay. The fruit was soggy and sitting in a puddle of water, so in all the time they took, they couldn't even cut fresh fruit!The cookies were hard, definitely not fresh. No one ever came to check on anything and there were obvious inefficiencies that could've prevented things like having to ask for utensils. And they want almost $40/person for this mediocre food and no service. Would not visit again, do not recommend. read more

Afternoon tea at Emma's Tea Spot is simply divine, less the cashier's service. The decor is low-key with a vintage feel and a dash of British paraphernalia. We arrived two hours before closing on Super Bowl LIII Sunday. I was shocked, the spot was packed. The cashier asked if we had reservations, we did not. She worded it like we needed reservation but quickly smirked and said we didn't. We stood at the cashier in an ungainly manner before being told we could find a place anywhere. Ummmmm... okay. We found a table with one chair near the window and carried our second chair to the table. I went back to the cashier, ordered and she gave us a table number. While we waited I wondered the store of fresh breads & croutons, discounted day old scones, fresh dairy creams, lotions, tonics and Trinkets. We enjoyed tuna sandwiches, mushroom soup, cranberry with blue cheese scones, Tangerine ginger tea, dainty china and good service. Con- Yes, it's pricier than some, but worth it. I hate to start reviews with... "If I lived closer to this place", but for real... If I live closer to this place... it'd probably become my usual haunt. First off, the owner Emma (who we got to meet!) was just the sweetest ever! She saw me taking a look at the small British Grocery shelf section at the back and came up and asked if I had any questions. DO I?! What in the world in Heinz "Salad Dressing"? What is this Ohhh Gravy stuff? Is anything here particularly Scottish? What's inside THIS package? I went on and on and she answered each question with delight! She was so friendly and helpful, and ended up making me a basket with a few goodies I chose at no extra charge. It was just such a sweet wonderful thing to do. I told her I was trying to get a little gift for my friend, and she just packaged it in the nicest way possible. She was quite funny as well, I remember she had me cracking up. In any event, that's not where my love with this place stops. They have doctor who merchandise, little gifts, and PLENTY of seating. The scones that we decided to get were top notch and the tea followed suit. I got the cinnamon raisin scone and it was one of those things where you take one bite, and you're like... man I wish this was larger. Not because it was small... but because it was SOOOOoo delicious. The crocheted tea sweaters on each pot are just adorable and make your tea sesh just a bit warmer and cozier. I was extremely excited to go here, but was very underwhelmed. I see the vibe they were going for but it missed. Everything in this cafe looked dirty and as if it came from the thrift store. Cheesy and old/dirty decor with British flags. Pretty sure a dirty rug was hanging on the wall pretending to be a fancy art piece. Silverware/dishes were mismatched clearly thrifted which is fine, but it felt dirty and they were stained and chipped. They were "sold out" of probably 90% of the teas. When asked the waiter about what a certain tea was, she had no idea. You'd think that if you work at a tea store you would know more about tea. If not, that's okay, she could have said "I'm not sure, but let me get back to you on that". I ended up getting a green tea because the options were so limited, which was boring- I can drink green tea anywhere. The scones were delicious, but the jam and cream came in the world's smallest jar. The cakes were underwhelming as well. This place has such potential, but was a no for me. I think they would do great with some redesign, new dishes, a deep clean, and restocking their tea. read more

Server realized this and went to get more... b then forgot about us along with our ask for more jelly for the bread (again only enough was provided for like 3 of the breads). They completely forgot the soup but we had to go. I asked for a discount or a refund for the soup portion but she insisted she could have it out within 5 minutes... everyone got a teacup with different portions of soup. Some were filled and some had a sample, maybe 1/5 full. Awful experience. I communicated with server multiple times that we had a hard stop to leave as well because we had another thing to go to afterwards but no luck on getting service. Well how about THAT! When I heard a British tea shop was coming to the Hamilton Main Street I gave it 2 months. Seriously, I thought, a dowdy tea shop with crumpets and high tea...in Baltimore? In Hamilton? Well despite being the only man in the room, it was comfortable, fun, relaxed, and it was PACKED. They do serve high tea and all that...with all the trimmings and goodies...jams, creams, etc. They do cut the crusts off what are delicious little sandwiches, the pots of tea are terrific and come with little knitted sweater-like things to keep them warm. A selection of British teas, baked goods, cheeses and products adds some authenticity along with a clearly British by birth owner who is just nice and treated us like royalty in what is a comfortable and not dowdy setting. Lord they have bottled marmite and little pickled onions too...and biscuits (the cookie type). So I recommend the scones (sweet or savory), the lemon curd to spread on it, and the Ploughman's platter is delicious and substantial with yummy cheeses, salad and ample fresh bread.
