Now that we've gotten that out of the way... This has been my farmers market ever since I moved to Atlanta 10 years ago. What keeps me coming back isn't just what they have--it's who they have. The staff here has always made me feel like family. Whether it's the sweet gentleman who cuts the fresh pineapple, the gentleman preparing fresh coconut water, or the ladies at the checkout counters, everyone is consistently warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. Those interactions may seem small, but they're a big part of why I continue to return year after year. Of course, the selection is incredible as well. This is where I buy most of my fresh fruit, a lot of my meat, and--let's be honest--my desserts too. Speaking of dessert, there is one item I absolutely have to mention: the fruit tart. I've tried fruit tarts from all over, and I can honestly say this market has my favorite one. Every single year, it's become my birthday tradition to pick one up, and I look forward to it just as much as the celebration itself. It really is that good. One thing I've always appreciated is the consistency. No matter which part of Georgia I've lived in over the past decade, I've continued making the drive because I know exactly what kind of experience I'm going to have every time I walk through the doors. A couple of helpful tips if you're visiting for the first time: * While the parking lot can look busy, I've almost always been able to find a space. You may have to park a little farther away, but a few extra steps are well worth it. * Also, be sure to come prepared--this market accepts debit cards or cash only, so credit cards aren't accepted. There are plenty of farmers markets around Atlanta, but this one has always felt like home to me. On Saturday, September 27th, I purchased nearly $260 worth of groceries and one of them was a pork shoulder. I came home, put it in the fridge and pulled it out the next morning to season it. The meat was turning green and foul smelling. I immediately brought the meat back to their butcher and they refused to refund me for the meat. They yelled at my husband and called him a liar, they insisted that they didn't have a quality control issue, and their policy is to not refund anything if they don't have a quality control issue. I was stunned. I spoke with management, with customer service, and explained that I purchased this meat the evening prior. Very recently. I also just wanted the meat refunded, and was even considering getting it swapped. They refused to discuss any option, they yelled, and they even blamed my husband and me for the problem!!? This is a terrible way to do business. I'm so disappointed and frustrated. I cannot believe they think it is appropriate to run a business this way. Still stunned.

This year, it operates from March 31 to November 17. I admit, it is more tiny than huge (perhaps around 15 vendors with roughly 2-3 selling produce), but it's worth visiting! Unlike some markets where you have to scavenge for parking in the nearby neighborhoods, the parking situation is exceptional since there's a giant lot right next to the venue which is First Baptist Church. This church happens to be quite near downtown Decatur in case you want to go there after or before. I believe all vendors accept credit cards but cash seems to be warmly welcomed at most or all businesses. Since there's a lush lawn in front of the church, it's a kid magnet and prime picnic spot; you can grab a snack or dinner and just chill. Some of my favorite sellers include Snapfinger Farm, Galette, and Honey Next Door. Shop local!
