Saw this place in passing while visiting the area for the weekend and decided to double back and give it a try before I hit the road back home to the DC area. I was warmly greeted by staff and even had a nice chat with the actual owner and chef! He was so kind and patient with my questions. They even offered recommendations since I was new their spot! OMG, I enjoyed every single thing that I purchased and now upset that I didnt bring even more back home with me! The Chaufa rice was AMAZING! So much for what you pay! There is the option to buy empanadas vacuum sealed and frozen and I took that route for a few flavors that I wanted to try. I did air fry one recently and it tasted just as delicious as the ones I ate the day I visited them! The prices was good and I felt I thoroughly got my money's worth! I didnt try any sweets this visit but the next time I'm in the area or even passing through, I'll make a pit stop for sure! I've already told friends that live locally to try them out and one went recently and raved about how good everything was and shared their own review with other local friends! The parking was ample and the seating space was plentiful. I dont eat pork/red meat and primarily eat clean. I felt at ease after the chef explained the ingredients and which menu items would be safe for me to try. They had an abundance of options to meet my needs. I just wish they had a location in the DC area, too! I would be a patron every week! Haha!

Location: Inside strip mall so plenty of parking Food: empanadas were really good. potato and cheese and vegetarian were good flavors. flaky crunchy outside but good filling on the inside. the rice and beans were a nice addition to make full meal Service:they were nice and our food was ready as soon as we got there to pick up ambiance:clean and plenty of seating. did not dine in but looked like a good place to sit and eat

One sauce per 2 Empanadas I ordered 3 and the sauce was only half full! We had only enough for one and a half. Empanadas were good and tasty. Place was pretty clean.

Very clean restaurant. The staff was friendly. The food was good. Nice size portions. The guacamole was fresh. The chicken was seasoned very well. However, the price? $15? I only ordered a bowl, no drink or sides. It was okay but wasn't that good. lol. I did get the guacamole which was extra. And that's fine. I guess it was $2-3 extra. I would probably eat here again with a coupon or no guacamole. The awesome customer service is what would make me return.

    Baked Argentine Empanadas

This is in the location of a sandwich shop that had been here for years and years. I was surprised to see the sign for empanadas. We stopped by on a Sunday for lunch. Not too crowded. You order at the counter and they bring your food out when it's ready. Our party of 4 had lots of different items. I had the baked empanadas. Cashier told me they would take extra time (15 min). I was OK with that. Prices were good. I gave an extra star because they use real dishes, silverware and glasses. I hate paper plates. We had the stuffed jalapeños, the cheese that was wrapped in crescent dough. A variety of empanadas, arepa, and a couple other things. The food was OK. I wanted some spice --- not available. The sauce was garlicky but not spicy. May try them again. If you are craving a snack an empanada is a good choice.

Venezuelan Chicken Empanada (GF) Colombian Beef & Potato Empanada (GF) Cuban Sandwich Green Salsa Garlic Cilantro sauce
    Hanna W.

I ordered a chicken empanada and a beef & potato empanada with garlic sauce and green sauce. The green sauce was advertised as spicy but was extremely mild, tasted watered down. The empanadas filling was dry and they were served cold/room temp. The cubano was tasty, although they skimped on pickles and the price was too high for the size of the sandwich ($8). The whole experience was lacking 'wow' factor. I wouldn't order empanadas from this food truck in the future. The guy who took our order was nice!

I brought my wife here Sunday morning--she's lived in Caracas so she always carries high expectations regarding things like empanadas. The ambiance was clean, light, and inviting with just a flair of latino vibe from the music. Service was outstanding and the food--top notch! My wife left very happy and came back the very next day for more. We're just visiting family (we live in Austin, TX) here, but this is our new favorite place. The beans and rice were infused with flavor, the fresh juices should not be missed, and every empanada type we tried was amazing. Thank you to the owners for making our visit so memorable. 5 stars!

Food was fresh and hot...in a good way. Staff was very friendly & helpful (Since I had NO clue) I chose the two empanadas (Venezuelan & Argentinian chicken with black beans and rice on the side. Really enjoyed the place as it was well kept and clean including the kitchen area. I can see why they're as good as people say...I'll be back for certain!

Crab, cheesy beef and spinach empanadas with Guava & Cheese Tequeños
    Marissa M.

I enjoy Latin cuisine and miss the Colombian food in NYC, so I decided to check out this restaurant for delivery. I was craving empanadas and decided on the spinach & cheese, cheesy beef and crab. I also had the taqueños and paired it all with a Colombiana kola. I enjoyed the taste empanadas but felt they could have included more filling. I enjoyed the the flavor offerings and would like to try other menu items.

The workers seemed slightly slower than the other location I have been to. No biggie. Finally, when it was my turn to order, the guy motioned to me and said something (I couldn't understand him, but it was obvious he wanted me to place my order) so I started my order and then he mid-sentence of me saying the order, he looked down at the monitor and said "one minute" as an online order came in and he started to proceed to make THAT order as I stood there waiting to finish my order. I am not thinking the world should revolve around me at all, but I have also learned that in customer service the person in front of you should be the priority. So finally, I placed my order and moved on through to the cashier. She had ZERO smile and ZERO eye contact. I pride myself on being a cheerful, polite person who also tries to give a genuine smile. She seemed to be tired and definitely didn't want to be there. I had to WAIT to pay bc she was turned waiting for something. No explanation like, "I'll be able to get your payment in just a second" or anything of the sort. The food was delicious, nonetheless. The lighting at night inside is a little too much on the cool side. We decided to take our order to go. Will we be back? yes, but to the Spring Forest Road location instead. the staff is friendlier and way faster!

I ordered the SHREDDED BEEF AREPA which also comes with plantains, cheese and beans inside. I chose garlic sauce and it was superb on the arepa! Very delicious and I suspect the arepa samdwiches are gluten free for those intolerant, but I didn't ask. The TORTILLA CHIPS that come with the meal are good, and suspect they make them in-house. The SERVICE was horrible. Guy behind counter told me the soda machine only had diet soda, which was what I wanted anyway. Out of curiosity I asked if it was hospital policy to exclude sugar soda or if the machine was just out of sugar syrups. He responded "don't know" in a "don't care" attitude. I went to fill my cup and the machine didn't serve ice either! This place could really help people in the hospital by smiling and showing they care about the customer. Most eating here in the hospital cafeteria are carrying the weight of poor health on their shoulders, whether their own or a loved one. It's a hospital cafeteria so its a place to sit down, and could be a good break from sitting in a loved ones patient room. It's not a restaurant that one would come to if not in the hospital.

What's notable about this local chain is its extensive options for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diners. The default arepa apparently has some dairy and gluten in it, but options for getting one to suit a vegan or gluten-free diet are there. The filling options for an arepa are customizable and numerous, with a range of flavors and nutritional profiles. My takeout order was ready speedily. Oddly, they gave me an extra arepa, which was unlabeled except for saying that it was a gift. It didn't seem to be vegetarian, so I didn't eat it. I appreciate the sentiment, but they might want to think about at least making it clearer what's going on.

Came here after the Durham Farmers Market with a friend and wow this place was a surprise. …read more I went with the grain bowl and honestly it is one of the best I have had in downtown Durham. It is built on quinoa and rice with black beans and kale, then layered with corn salsa, tomato cortido, guacamole, and a creamy acevichado style sauce that pulls everything together. It is finished with a crunchy mix of pepitas, nuts, and grains. The balance is quite ideal in my view. My friend had the rotisserie chicken with two sides, kale and slaw, and it was just as impressive. Crispy skin, juicy inside, and really clean flavors. Simple food done right and GF friendly. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared. Prices land right where you would expect for the quality, roughly 16 to 21 dollars depending on what you order, and it feels worth it. My bowl plus side of dark chicken was plenty. A few notes. Parking is what you would expect for downtown, so plan accordingly. Service was solid and friendly, but nothing that stood out. The vibe inside is festive and relaxed, bright and open, and just a fun place to hang out for lunch. Porbably not a special occasion. I also suspect it could get loud when full. This is definitely going into my regular rotation. That grain bowl is going to be hard to pass up next time, so instead of replacing it I will probably just add a side or an empanada and start working my way through the rest of the menu.

I had two empanadas, with a side of black beans and rice, and their papas fritas and the portion size for the food surprised me. $25 worth of food was around two takeaway boxes full and enough for probably two people. They gave a large amount of fries coated with this tasty furikake seasoning. The sauce that came with the empanadas was very nice. Rice and Beans were standard, I do wish they gave me a spoon as I had no means of scooping it up with but that I can look past.
