La Tica Arepa La Pelua Arepa
    Justin L.

This is a go to lunch spot of mine! The food is always great, and I love their drink options! I think the La Tica Arepa is probably my favorite! However, honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. I have probably had all of the ones that don't have a mayonnaise in it and I can honestly say I have liked every single one of them. The service is quick, and the servers are kind! What I like about this restaurant is you walk in order at the front and you pick up your food. It's not difficult, and they're never impatient with you as you try and decide what you want! The restaurant itself is fairly quiet for the most part, but I'm sure at times it could get loud! I have never been there at a time where it was very loud. My only issue with this restaurant is I feel that it's kind of expensive

    Chicken and bbq pork arepa

When I arrived at the truck no one was in site but I heard someone talking on a phone. After about a minute, I was greeted ordered a chicken arepa ( la tica) with pico added extra and a bbq pork arepa (la surena). The pork is very flavorful with a sweet bbq taste and charred bits of meat. The pico was fresh. The chicken has a mild tomato simmered flavor. Both fillings tasted great. They both came with a yummy green sauce that tasted like mayo cilantro and avocado blended together. The arepa's were a little thick so the centers were more mushy than the outer areas for my taste so I ate the filling separate from the arepa and filling was a good portion size filling the container they came in. Excellent flavor over all for both would recommend you try them.

Food was epic, their computer system was down and they handled it with grace. Service and ambiance were great. Don't forget the cilantro sauce.

I've been here about 3 times and the food does not disappoint. Every bite is flavorful and delicious. Any kind of arepa they have on the menu looks and sounds delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone who is in the area looking for good Latino food!

Pretty good! I prefer the green sauce over the orange. The spicy orange sauce goes better with the beef arepa and the chicken goes better with the green. The other thing is a vegetarian sweet corn pancake (cachapas) that comes with sweet cream upon request but they just gave it to us without us asking haha. Definitely nicer with the cream. The diet coke part of the soda fountain wasn't working. Only clear soda water came out.

Service was very friendly and welcoming; they were helpful with answering questions about the menu. This was my first time eating arepas, so I was not sure what to expect. Personally, I was disappointed. I felt like the ingredients were cold and the flavors didn't seem to go well together. When I tasted the shredded chicken I thought it tasted very familiar with a flavor I had many times before. I could not put my finger on it until I read the other reviews and I have to agree the shredded chicken has the flavor of canned chicken. I did enjoy the dessert. Overall, for me, the value of what I got versus the taste was just not a hit for me. It might have been the arepas I chose that day.

    Cachapa with beyond meat crumble

Having tried Arepas first time in Merida, Mexico, I was craving for them and got excited when we ran into this place. They have a lot of Vegetarian Options to pick too. We started with "la Domino" (Organic black beans with caramelized onions ,peppers and cheese )and "La Tica " (Chicken). Both were really good. (Of course, Not as good as in Mexico for 20 pesos each vs $8 here ) We also got specialty Cachapa with beyond meat crumbles . Huge disappointment in first bite . It had a weirdly sweet taste to it and to add, our choice of beyond meat was horrible. Together it was disaster. Having paid 15$ for it we managed to finish half of it but it but had to throw away the rest. Guess we picked wrong protein but will never order it again ! 4* for the Arepas . I will ignore the Cachapa for this review since it doesn't suit my taste bud. But will come try other options in future.

Finally made it to this restaurant! Food: I ordered their menu stated popular arepa La Tica Arepa with a Housemade Frescos Natural flavor papelon con limón. The agua freca was delicious. The arepa was very filling and juicy. The chicken though was not very flavorful. Arepas themselves are not very flavorful either so it left a little to be desired. They add an abundance of cheese on top but once you take bites off the top there is minimal cheese in your other bites leaving a very meaty tasting entre. There are two sauces you can self serve (cilantro and hot) which are okay but honestly the arepa tastes better without them. I will say they do leave out the salt and pepper for customers to add but I don't believe that's what the dish was missing. Price: I felt the item was a little pricy for what I was getting. I had arepas in many places and this is probably on the higher end. The portions may make it worth it but the lack of flavor left me a bit dismayed. Service: I was impressed with how fast the food was ready. By the time I found a seat the chasier called my name to get my food. I appreciate they take card and have tap available for easy check out and email your receipt. The cashier was very friendly. Ambiance: abundance of seating inside and outside. It's a nicely kept clean and welcoming space with nice seating a decor. I appreciate their eco friendly serve ware (straws and "plates"). I would like to try their other flavors and redo this review. I have high hopes for this place and am sure I will love at least one of their menu items.

This was my first time My self and my kids went I really liked the Specialty Cachapa with chicken I wish it was warmer so the cheese was melted The cilantro sauce was a delicious addition to the cachapa The La Tica Arepa was good but the El Carnivoro Arepa was my kid's favorite The house juice was refreshing and a great complement to your meal. I look forward to trying it again soon.

this was pretty good! not too expensive either - i got a chicken arepa with a side of black beans. the black beans were really salty - so i wouldn't get that again but the arepa itself was flavorful and yummy. the green cilantro sauce was a great addition on top

Food was top tier- so flavorful and delicious. The woman working at the counter was so kind, patient and helpful as we navigated the menu and made our selections. The restaurant itself is gorgeously decorated, lots of plants and greenery and the natural lighting is amazing. Great experience overall. Highly recommend!

This place is so good! The location and ambiance left me a little skeptical at first but I loved my food. This build your own bowl packed so much flavor and I absolutely crushed it. Their complimentary sauces are so freaking good. Will def be back.

Yummy I tried this place for the first time yesterday but ordered takeout through DoorDash. The food was so delicious that I had to drive up to the restaurant myself because I wanted more. I walked into a cute, clean and inviting atmosphere. I was greeted by a sweet young gentleman, I wish I had looked at his name tag. He kindly took my order and told me that I made a great choice. I end up getting the La Surena arepas (shredded BBQ pork loin with housemade pico) and a side of plantains top with fresh cheese. Man, I thought the food was good yesterday, but today was superb. Everything was fresh and hot. This is definitely a new spot I will be frequenting when I am in the area.

Love their food truck and storefront! I've ordered many times and always get the La tica arepa and a side of plantains.

If this translated correct, I think you're asking if the serving sizes are small for children. I usually order 2 arepas and I'm really full afterwards. They are very fulfilling.

I ordered the crispy shredded beef with cheese arepa with the cilantro sauce and the chilled chicken avocado snack with chips. The shredded beef was very tender and flavorful, I tried it w/out and with the cilantro sauce, both bites were great; the price is not half bad being under six dollars. The chill chicken avocado snack with chips is another great option if you want something light. The mixture was very light and creamy. The chips were ok, they didn't have any seasoning, not sure if I got a bad batch or if they don't season the chips. If anyone goes before I visit again please let me know. I don't necessarily need the chips. The price for the snack is also under six dollars too. Guasaca has three locations in Raleigh (Lake BooneTrail, Spring Forest Rd and Hillsborough St.), I went to the Lake Boone location because that was the location I visited many years ago. This is a place I will be visiting again, I may try another location and I hope to have the same quality of food. Happy Eating!

Rating based on: Consistency, Cleanliness, Quality, Taste, and Presentation…read more Let me be REAL with you....I walked into Che Empanadas thinking this was some ordinary empanada spot. I was magnificently WRONG. This place is absolutely BANGING, and I'm so glad I found it tucked away here in Raleigh, NC. First up, the Beef Empanada. Listen. The meat is juicy, tender, seasoned with what I can only describe as impeccable love. The crust? Flaky, moist, golden perfection. Ground beef, onions, peppers, olives....every bite hits different. You can TELL they put their heart into this.... Then I tried the Dino Cheese....a scrumptious four-cheese blend wrapped in that same magnificent golden crust, dipped in their Chimichurri sauce, and oh my GOD. The flavor combo is luscious beyond words. That chimi hits like a flavor bomb and elevates every single bite. Now let me keep it honest with you because you know I'm a REAL one....in the pictures, the empanadas look a lot bigger than what they are in person. But with that said, if you have the urge to put up a couple extra dollars, this experience is WORTH it. Every. Single. Penny. The Knish....a Jewish-Argentinian classic with homemade potato and caramelized onion wrapped in flaky dough....MELTS in your mouth. I'm telling you, it's worth the drive alone. Scrumptious doesn't even begin to cover it. And the sweets? The Cubana....guava and cream cheese pastry....is luscious, buttery, and hits that perfect sweet spot. The Alfajor de Chocolate....dulce de leche sandwiched between crispy chocolate wafers and dipped in chocolate....absolutely MAGNIFICENT. Sumptuous is right. I tried about 80% of the menu and everything was delicious. And believe me, I KNOW good bakeries. I grew up a few blocks from Delancey Street in NYC....you feel me? I've been to more bakeries than I can count, and Che Empanadas? It takes the cake. The presentation is clean, the packaging is on point, and you can taste the authenticity in every bite. This isn't some mass-produced nonsense....this is handcrafted, Argentine soul food done RIGHT. Do yourself a favor. Go. Now. RIGHT NOW.. for a religious experience and I don't even care if you're atheist or not this place will blow your mind away.!

Food Hall on the southern edge of downtown Raleigh…read more Coming from North Raleigh, it's a bit of a trek, but Transfer Co. has become a regular destination for us despite the drive. Parking can usually be found outside, but on the Sunday morning we visited, the lot and nearby street spaces were full. I circled back to Chavis Way, where parking is more reliable, and from there a short trail leads straight into the food hall. There was no line, and our order was taken promptly. We started with: Bacon, Egg & Cheese Empanada Sausage, Egg & Cheese Empanada At $9.20 + tax and tip for two, it was a light but flavorful start. The empanadas were so good that we each went back for another round, bringing the total to $18.40 + taxes and tip for two empanadas each which was plenty of food for breakfast. The empanadas themselves were excellent: flaky crusts, generous fillings, and thoughtful seasoning. Both flavors were outstanding, and in past visits we've had the same experience with other varieties. Seating was plentiful inside the hall, and water is available in the center. Servie is prompt and friendly. In my opinion, these are the best empanadas in the triangle, and maybe the best we've ever had. Highly recommended.
