The Sultan is one of the best Indian restaurants anywhere IMHO. The aroma of authentic Indian cuisine greats you as you enter the Sultan. My all-time favorite dish here is the Lamb Vindaloo (5/5 £13.35) -- a fiery, spicy curry with tender lamb. I enjoy it with a side of Corriander Naan (5/5 £3.85) and some Mango Lassi. Located in a former Methodist church, the Sultan has kept many of the church's features in the dining room, which contribute to the atmosphere. It also does not serve alcohol, but there's a pub nearby for a pint before dinner. The staff has always been welcoming, friendly and attentive.

This may explain how the pieces of chicken whilst soaked in sauce, can yet be so dry. This restaurant takes self service to a total new experience for me. With the waitress resting her head on her elbow behind the counter, I have been left to uncover all the warm/cold food, and personally place a serving spoon into each container myself. I think had I stayed for over an hour I may get reimbursed for some of the abysmal meal with my serving contributions. Very disappointed is an understatement.
