Feeling very confused. Called on Monday morning to make an appointment for a basic Mani Pedi on Tuesday evening so over 24 hours between making the appointment and having the appointment. I show up a few minutes early, check in and the receptionist tells one of the students that I am her client. I watched the student doing nothing for several minutes while I sat there. I continued sitting there and then noticed another student walked in the front door. The original student who was supposed to do my service started talking to the receptionist and I guess decides she did not want to do my service and asked that I be given to the new student who just walked in. OK fine, it's now 20 minutes past my appointment time. So I continued to sit there until this new person brought me over to her table. I sat down at the table, we barely had a second to speak to each other before she said that she never had a chance to disinfect her station so she needs me to go sit back upfront. OK, so I go sit back up front and several more minutes go by. Finally, the receptionist came up to me and told me that they do not have any salt to add to the pedicure basin so they will not be able to do my service. I'm sitting there just sort of stunned and deeply uncomfortable. I am not an unclean person, I am not rude, I am not disrespectful, I showed up on time, appropriately dressed, I was pleasant. The entire interaction was just uncomfortable and embarrassing and I am not sure what was going on but, I just got the sense that they clearly did not want to provide me with the service I had booked. So, I ended up leaving and won't be back. Just on a sidenote, as I was sitting there waiting, there was another client who was there to get her hair dyed blue. She had clearly stated that when she made her appointment. But, the receptionist started picking through her hair, asking her why she wanted to dye her hair blue. The whole thing was just strange. She then goes on to say that she doesn't think they have blue hair dye. If they don't have blue hair dye, why did they accept an appointment to dye someone's hair blue? Just like my pedicure appointment, why accept an appointment for a pedicure if you don't have the products necessary to do a pedicure? Anyway, they tried to convince this poor girl to dye her hair pink or red or some other color. She was clearly uncomfortable as well. I have no idea what the outcome was of that because I ended up leaving, but, I guess the takeaway is, if you are booking a service, I would confirm that they have all of the necessary supplies to complete your service before you drive all the way over there only to find out they don't have the supplies and you will not be able to get the service you booked. Or maybe they did have the supplies and there was something about me that they didn't want to serve? I don't know, the whole thing was deeply uncomfortable. read more

I just left there the Temu Latoya Jackson the older black woman was totally unprofessional she didn't greet me when I walk in there was a bunch of women a crowded of student gossiping w/ the overly make up older woman behind the desk after 5/10 minutes the overly make up older woman acknowledge me I said I have an appointment for finger waves she ask the Whale the ( over weight student maybe instructor that look so unprofessional and clothes was dirty) answer in a very rude unprofessional way!! With a NO!! Then the overly makeup older receptionist woman said old I have a person that can do wave she should be here I waited 30 minutes then I ask do she have an ideal when will the stylist come in it's being 30 minutes she answer w/ a hard No! I ask could she call the stylist she ignored me and continue her conversation w/ the students and instructor at the front desk!!! This is horrible place horrible customer care I not sure why they still carry on like this horrible totally unprofessional!! First things First Ms Patty, Keke, and Isis are sooooo amazing and keke and isis are so dedicated to what they do. Ms Patty is the sweetest soul ever and made my experience even better than what it was. But my concern goes to the esthetician instructor Ms Heather. My mom had an appointment for her brows and she has some medical conditions that cause her hair to be thinner and not grow back as strong, My mom had explained that to Ms Heather and she almost had a smirk on her face as if she thought that was funny. Today was supposed to be her appointment but she canceled it to reschedule for next week due to THEIR regulations and Ms Heather had told my mom that she wasn't aloud to come in because she didn't come to her appointment which she had canceled. She was rather rude and disrespectful towards my mom and thats not appropriate or appreciated AT ALL. She is very rude to her students and singles out certain students to discriminate or be disrespectful towards them. I think that she should be looked into as a TEACHER, Her students should feel comfortable and happy coming into school not uncomfortable and worried about if their going to be singled out. I received a total of 13 calls of our span of three days after I already told them I had been communicated with about touring the school, and no longer was interested. There must be something with their system or they're not putting notes in to let people know that we were already contacted, by the last person who called me I'd let her know that I already taken the steps to tour the school, but was no longer interested and as I was still talking, she said "OK thank you and hung up the phone" read more

Do not go here for their salon services, person at the front desk had a nasty attitude when I called to get information on the haircut services they have, and continued to huff and puff when I asked a question and acted as if they're doing us a favor by bringing our business there. Stop harassing potential students. I was interested in joining their cosmetology program until I got no less than 5 phones calls a day asking when I was ready to start despite me explaining that I was still looking for options. The program seemed awesome and doable but the spam phone calls put a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Won't be going back & don't recommend going. I was getting my hair done & my stylist was doing a great job & obviously I know they are still learning which is completely fine. The teacher (Mrs. Alana) was NOT teaching. She was so rude to the student and myself. I felt so bad. I just kept reassure the student that I loved how she did my hair & that she was doing great(which is true) A perfect word for her would be a BULLY. She made the student feel so low it made me sick. The only positive experience I had was when I was leaving, the ED(I think) Mrs. Doriea asked how my visit was & that I looked great. I didn't mention the situation because the teacher was close by giving me the side eye so I just said it was good & left to pay. So disappointed and I pray those students don't give up because of that teacher. I hope some action will be taken for that teacher!! read more

I am mortified that I spent even $10 on my hair. If anything, that is what they should be paying me for the time and product it has taken me to undo this damage. I would first like to note that I am an educator at a public school. I am aware that there is a learning curve to certain skills and that these are students who are practicing and need to be cut some slack and given grace, and I'm ok with that! Additionally, I have the most hair anyone in that salon has probably ever seen, and it's thick, and unbelievably kinky so I'm not coming in with the best canvas to work on. I asked for a Deep conditioning treatment with a blow dry. Simple enough, right? This student squirted conditioning treatment ALL OVER my head, and proceeded to massage it into my scalp!!! She sat me under the dryer for 20 minutes where I thought "that's ok, she will probably shampoo one more time after she washes the treatment out." NOPE!!!!!!!! As she started to dry my hair, she noted it's heavy and thick and takes forever to dry. I must have requested at least 3 times to get blown out with a round brush. But, when she discovered it would take more than 10 minutes with a round brush she switched to a padle and said she would fix it later. Ok, fine. The deeper into the service, the worse it got. As she as drying, I kept thinking, she's not getting it dry! Only to find out that it in fact was just grease and conditioner ALL OVER MY HEAD! Although she never went back and did the finishing touches with a round brush like I asked; the paddle brush she used did so a decent job. When she motioned that I was done I pointed out that there were some parts that were still sopping wet, and also; why does my hair look like I haven't washed it this year? This lady proceeded to tell me it's my fault for 2 reasons: first, I didn't brush my hair (WHAT?!?!!) and secondly, because I was sweating. I was so offended. The pictures alone will show you, this is not sweat. I have washed my hair 3 times since coming home and it's still a disaster. Over an hour in the shower trying to get this product OUT!!! What I am most appalled by is the lack of leadership or supervision. These pictures were taken no less than 10 minutes upon exiting the salon and I am flabbergasted that any instructor or teacher let me walk out looking like this. It's awful! read more

2 strikes, you're out. While I can easily tolerate the lack of quality control in the procedures I get there, Empire Beauty School can't seem to get appts right... which is not acceptable. Last time, I scheduled with my preferred student and when I got there, that student was in class and it took them over 30 minutes to find a replacement. Then, they stuck me with a girl who gave me a pedicure that was worse than one I could have given myself or that any of my friends have ever given me. She was nice though... probably just new at pedicure and manicures. This happens sometimes at beauty schools and is expected. Today, I scheduled with my same preferred student but when I got there, he was busy with another client because they had me down for an earlier time than I'd scheduled 9even though I'd called a week in advance for the appt because today I'm going to a Christmas party and wanted pretty nails for it). I believe that confusion happened because we had originally discussed the earlier time but then, during the SAME phone conversation, I said that I'd have to get a baby sitter so I'd need the later opening. Despite that, they scheduled me for the earlier opening. Still, I wasn't irritated until I waited OVER AN HOUR for a replacement and still had nobody. So I left. I looooove paying a babysitter and then showing up to messed up appt times. I don't mind if they switch me around and things aren't perfect but today's hour wait was way too much. An added insult is that the students at the desk had talked to their manager/teacher and she didn't care at all. Very unprofessional... which is ok from the students but not the staff. At this point, I cannot recommend Empire Beauty to anyone who has a schedule or has to pay a sitter while they are out. Won't see ya there. read more

This school does not pay attention to what their students are doing! I went there years ago and found an amazing stylist but she has since moved and ventured marriage, children and other aspects of her life. I thought I wud give it another shot and maybe find a new gem. Instead I found an unprofessional, uncaring gal and also a school that didn't care what their students were doing on their property! Meaning..using their own products..not the schools, and not under supervision. Also charging separately and pocketing the cash versus payments going to the school, while supposedly paying the school a "booth rent". After two visits towards my goal of lightening dramatically from almost black to platinum..she no showed my third visit! When I called her she acted like she had a family emergency..when clearly she forgot. She has a full time job at some salon supply store that she manages and it occupied all of her time! She was careless and completely over processed my hair. When I complained repeatedly about her techniques and color and not doing my roots..she continuously made excuses that at the time sounded legit..but I'm not a professional..and apparently neither is she!!! I went elsewhere and they have tried to fix the damage she caused. I will never go there again and karma to Bunny! You should never lie about a loved one's health! Oh no no no First impressions count! I came in at noon for a mani and eyebrow wax. Customer service coordinator said to come back in an hour because the students were at lunch. Ok fine. I come back and attempt to check in. There are about 5 students crowded around the front desk, just hanging out talking amongst themselves. I was like excuse me can someone check me in? Of course I'm not in the computer because when I came in an hour ago, she just wrote me down in the book. Now I have to explain everything to this clueless student with the other ones looking at me like I have a problem. Finally after about 10 mins of that nonsense, the original lady who wrote me in at noon came up and said oh I wrote her in. Gee thanks. So a little frustrated I calm down and expect to get my services. Not so fast. Lady asks is he staying with you? Pointing at my son. Well, yeah I replied (I usually don't bring my kids to a salon, but this is a casual school environment so I didn't think it would be a problem.) Then she said I couldn't bring him with me because of policy. Yeah I get it. And the policy is fine. But I had no notice of it even after looking on the website to see if it said anything. So I said to her, why didn't you tell me that when I was here an hour ago when you saw him with me? Also, it doesn't say on your website you have this policy just to let you know. Then she very rudely said, "well we assume people should know not to bring their kids to a salon. " WOW I walked straight out. Very unprofessional. Total waste of my time. read more

$5 for a shampoo, cut and style??? Yep. The prices for services here are amazing. My only complaint is that it took almost one hour to get a simple trim. The student has to have everything approved and sometimes the instructors are not around. The atmosphere is not spa like at all, but when I'm in need of a simple service this is the best bang for my buck. read more

This was my second time here and my last. Quick story: Was there for six hours on my day off, hair looked exactly the same as when I walked in, stylist was slow and asked me if she needed me to blow dry my hair after washing it, instructor was unprofessional and said it was my fault (loudly) that my hair looked the same. Paid $40 and got out of there. Waste of time mostly, but also waste of money. Full story: First red flag is when I looked around everyone's hair was very "alternative" looking....shaved heads, dramatic colors, all the students had tats and piercings-now I note this because I wouldn't go to a salon that looks like a tattoo parlor. I'm not saying if you have tats and piercings you cannot do my hair but we have completely different taste and that may matter. And it did. So, I asked for highlights and lowlights which is my usual since I have very fine hair and color adds dimension. Shelby, my stylist asks me which colors so I tell her and she has to get the "green light" from her instructor, Ms. Henry. This lady pretty much looks at me and guesses what I want....tells me which lowlight color I want as though she knows the exact look I'm going for. Who am I to argue...she's the pro right? My hair is blonde= The highlight is bleach so that's the "color" and I originally chose a color that's light brown for the lowlight....Ms. Henry switches it to dark blonde- fine. My favorite part of Shelby was that she didn't talk to me almost at all- why did I like this? Because I didn't have to make idle chit chat with a stranger I will never see again. Ha...I mean really we have enough of these types of conversations right...I wanted to just sit there and think and have some "me" time. So 5 hours pass and this girl isn't close to done, she finally asks for help and so I have two students working on my hair....this is usually what happens and okay with me even though my hair turns out slightly different on each side. She washes my hair and tells me to go back to her station while she cleans. I'm there. Then she asks me "Did you need me to blow dry your hair or anything"? I thought this was a strange question...I mean did she want me to blow dry it myself? Did she think I didn't want to see the results?...or worse was she trying to get me to leave because she knew it didn't come out right? Anyway so I said "Well...yeah". This is when I knew her tip went from $20 to $10. My hair looks: the same as when I walked in. Not kidding...Okay not the same...it looks shampooed and blow dried. She says "I guess you can't really see the color but you can back here"...no mirror to show me though....and I'm just sitting there thinking....okay you know what this is fine...at least it's not something bad...like a bad color or that my hair fell out... Ms. Henry has to "sign off" on my hair. She immediately says..."You can't really see the difference because you wanted the highlights and the lowlights to be thin so it's not a dramatic effect". I mean I didn't want that "skunk" look and I always elect "thin" I don't have enough hair to choose "thick"....so I just stay quiet. Then she says "I think you don't like it because you wanted it to be more blonde". I thought this was odd since my hair is blonde and still remained blonde...if anything I wanted it to be more than "just blonde". Awkward moments begin: Ms. Henry asks Shelby if she can stay to add 4 more foils in my hair. Shelby says "I don't want to but I can if you need me to"...goodness thanks Shelby....this is when tip went to $5. She agrees to stay and I feel so weird that I say "Hey sorry for making you stay longer" (as though this is my fault)...and she says "It's okay I need to make up hours anyway". Okay, great. Another 45 min of my time. There I am with additional foils and she asks Ms. Henry "Do I need to shampoo her hair all over again". No, Shelby, just let me go home and I'll shampoo it myself and while we're at it...why didn't I just do my own highlights? The cashier says: "Um...did you get your hair done?" I say yes...she says "Okay...what did you get done? Why is your hair in a wet pony tail? Can I see your hair"? I show her....and tell her for times sake I asked for my stylist not to dry it so I can get going. She says...I can't tell what you had done. Same thing the mirror told me...and she offered me a "re-do" BUT before I even pay she asks Ms. Henry what happened and she loudly says "This client doesn't know what she wants and had hair growth that interfered with the color- she just wants to be more blonde". Maybe because it was an all day event but I seriously had it with this unprofessional lady YELLING about me. I didn't complain ONCE. I never said one thing. She knew it was blah which is why she offered me more foils. And of course I know what I wanted...Highlights and lowlights. I paid, I left, I am grateful my hair is at least "untouched" rather than in need of emergency treatment. Worst day off in a long time. read more

I think the student who did my hair was knowledgeable and my hair color turned out great. But I was there for 3 hours! And I didn't even get the trim I wanted! I looked around and it seemed like most of the students REALLY take their time (I mean they are just learning and need to be careful.) But an average person can't spend half a day getting their hair done!!! I can't! The students also have a ways to go in learning how to talk with their clients and act professionally amongst themselves. I would rather go to my Aveda salon. read more

I wanted a color and a cut. I was in the chair with color on for four hours - I was told later that i shouldn't worry about my hair as this is training and the product stops working after 40 minutes. I wondered if i would still have hair! The color was nice but not what I asked for at all. She went through three extra bowls of color, on top of the first bowls (at $10 a bowl) so it didn't turn out to be all that cheap in the end. Because I was in the chair for so long, the girl doing my color had to leave and I got a new person doing my cut. I had to explain all over again what I wanted. She did an amazing job though. I went into this place some time ago and felt it very much needed a review. This is really for those wishing to attend rather then pay for services. I went in and asked to have a color change done on my toes. The pedicurist who helped me proceeded to paint ALL over my toes, color was everywhere! I asked this girl, who seemed to have some challenges, how much time she had left in school, she stated a few weeks and that she had been in school for close to 2 years already. I nicely asked (I was saving all my anger for the teacher) if/how she was planning on cleaning up my toes. She stated she would fix it and went on to painfully scrap color our of my cuticles and off the SIDES of my toes. My cuticles were still filled with color when the teacher came over and promptly approved my pedicure. I was shocked. When I reached the desk I informed the student that I wished to speak with a manager and the instructor. She called them over. I calmly explained to them that I would not be paying for my services. I also (and I began to grow angry here) explained to them that they were crooks for allowing this girl to continue with school as she obviously had not mastered the basic skills needed to complete a simple toe nail painting. I asked them how in all good conscience take this girls money and continue to tell her she was doing a good job and would gain a job in this industry upon graduation. They looked at he slack jawed and stated "ma'am you will be paying for this service". I snottily replied, "Nope" and walked out the door. In my opinion these people are morally repugnant crooks. Looking around the studio I should have run but unfortunately I always give people the benefit of the doubt. Do not get services here and certainly do NOT attend. read more

Very negative experience. This would be negative stars if I could do it. My wife scheduled my son for a perm and cut (yes, man perms are back among teens). She stopped in and paid while my son was finishing up (or so was believed) and she left, as my son had his own car. Later, when my wife and son met back up, my kid had zero perm and looked worse than before, with a partial cut in back that was sticking up. After two and a half hours of sitting through two rolls and two perm attempts and a badly done few snips, my kid ran out of time and left. Next day, my wife took him to a real salon. The stylist checked his hair and realized they never put the perming solution in his hair at all (either if the two times)...so she was safe to give him one and did so. Empire refused to refund money for the botched, unsupervised work, but fully admitted that the student should have been better trained and better supervised that day. My gosh, especially with the use (or lack there of) of chemicals!! They gave us a 'shop credit,' but we will NEVER go back. I also talked a few high school girls out of going there after high school! So, Empire ate two and a half hours of my son's life and kept our money too. Nothing in return, but a bad experience and even worse looking hair. Their student, who is paying good $$ for an education, did not receive instruction/education either. Bad way to do business. Epic fail all the way around. Zero win for my kid, for my money, and for the training student stylist!! read more

I was hesitant about going to a beauty school for a haircut but decided to try it I was very surprised. Yvonne did a wonderful job, gave me the style I wanted.she was very professional and friendly. This place was great. $8 for a haircut and the girl did an awesome, awesome job. It is a nice, professional atmosphere and the teachers were really nice and helpful too. I will definitely come back here to get my hair cut again. I have been going here for many years to get my hair done previously had perm prior to that I had foils everything looked great each time I've had my hair done but the last few times I've called I've been given a hard time and running around so if you want to just get your hair done and get it done right go somewhere else. Go somewhere else because you won't have to run around and all the extra that they're trying to do now used to used to be a great place to walk in and get service since pandemic it has not been the same at all don't know if it's new instructors or what is going on but very disappointed and the responses that I got today during my phone call. Third time they keep bringing up Patch test. Telling me to come back in 48 hours after the patch test I don't have 48 hours I work I'm in the medical field and I'm a supervisor and you're a supervisor you have to do what you can when you can. read more

I was a bit hesitant to get a cut and color at a beauty school. Was looking to cover grays and get a trim with out going broke. I usually pay anywhere from $100-$180 for the same thing at a regular salon. A friend told me to try the local beauty school. So I did...and found out I've been missing out. My stylist Shelly Ross and her teacher Mrs. Shonna knocked it out of the park. Together they matched the color perfect! Shelly really took her time to make sure it was right periodically checking in with her teacher. It turned out better than I could have imagined...and the cut and style totally on point!! Needless to say I was more than pleasantly surprised. read more

I got highlights at this location and terrible is the nicest way to describe it. My hair is completely ruined, and now I have to spend a lot of money to get the color corrected. The highlights themselves are bad (and brassy), but there's also random patches of orange, mostly on the back of my head. Obviously, the student didn't have adequate supervision. They also didn't have the correct foils so they had to use an alternative. I requested a refund but they said that they can't do refunds, that they can only fix it. When I asked how they would fix it, the woman said they would lighten it more, and that it might be MORE orange after. I would rather shave my head than let anyone at this school touch my hair again. read more

So normally me and my daughter go to get our hair done there. Booked an appointment for my mother to get her hair done my mother comes in town from california to be told by the day teacher they will not do the style and i need to call after 6pm and talk to Ms. Tashona if she now wants the style. The lady we spoke to which i am pretty sure it was the blonde lady who is usually there was beyond rude on the phone. I seriously literally got robbed at the school and no one did anything about it. I was doing a lash extension demo and one of the students grabbed the money right out of my purse and the school just let them leave the girls that were suspects. And didn't do anything about it and said they were going to call the cops but they already left the girls leave this is the most unprofessional beauty school I have ever been to and I can't believe that I literally got Robbed there. read more

I went to this school to tour and look around and see if I wanted to attend it. But, unfortunately, the lady who I was supposed to meet with (Kimberley) was late. And barged in on a meeting that I was having with the Director. The Director didn't answer my questions fully nor could he explain why his school was better than the others in the area. He did not explain what came in the kit nor what education program they use. The lady at the front desk was incredibly rude. So was Kimberley, barking and yelling at her students while giving us a tour. The instructor who was bleaching a ladys hair had put the tools on her station..which in the beauty industry is a big no-no. they should be in a sanitary bin and only used once. The students were just sitting in their salon chairs and chit chatting with other students. Not working on mannequins or bookwork. They were very unproffesional and rude. I would not suggest going to get your hair done there or considering their school. They are horrible. read more

First treatment was great instructor understood what I needed and even though there was a mistake, which they rushed to fix it before I was in the mirror it worked out alright BUT, after that ... it was all downhill ... FAST ... The instructors need to go back to school themselves. The students, poor things, follow inadequate training, so you can imagine what to expect.
