1. The receptionist did not speak clearly when I called. Because I could not understand him, i drove there the next day & the same man was practically incoherent! He said I would have to wait outside in 87 degree heat before I could reenter the bldg. in 5 minutes. 2. Even though I was the second to arrive, he put 5 people ahead of me into the students area to be serviced. 3. Since I waited 28 minutes, I started to walk out the door and he said "where you going?" 4. The first time I went there, they gave me a KINKY, African-American permanent, even though I am white. 5. I wanted an affordable silk press for the holidays and Kianna from Empire Beauty School delivered. It has been about nine years since I came to this location. They currently offer nail services and hair services such as perms, color services, silk presses, loc retwists, roller sets, sew ins , natural braids, natural twists and shampoo and blow dry. This location offers walk ins for services every other Saturday, so you should call in the day before to ensure that students are available for services. The pricing has been updated but is still very budget friendly. A silk press is $35 (or $45 if you add on a deep conditioning service). It is the luck of the draw that will determine your student stylist, but you can request a stylist if you like how they've done your hair. You just need to know their schedule. From my understanding as of December 2025, they offer services Tuesday through Friday from 9 AM to 12 PM and in the evening from 5 to 7:30 PM and they offer services from 9 AM to 12:30 PM on rotating Saturdays. They accept walk-ins only which is great for those who want to spontaneously come and get a style. Early arrival is recommended because of that system and services being dependent on student stylist availability. Remember this is a Hair school, so part of their day is focused on instruction or practice of certain skills and then they also get to practice on real clients that walk in. Based on my recent experience and my experiences in the past, I think you can't go wrong with a simple service such as a silk press or a shampoo and condition, especially for the price point. read more

Our awful experience was a while ago, but after going to another cosmetology school in the area ​​​​​​​​​and having a wonderful experience, I feel like I need to. The front desk staff was unattentive and when attended to, very rude, passive aggressive, and unprofessional. After waiting a half hour, the student and instructor came over to mom to discuss the service we booked, only to find out they could not give us the service. When askes why they wouldn't have asked these questions prior to booking the service, we just git a shoulder shrug. The student was extremely apologetic, but the overall vibe of the staff was like, oops, sorry. Let us walk out without trying to rectify. I would never refer this school, not because of the students, but because if the staff. I went to the beauty school today. I have natural curly hair. The person put to do my hair was not trained to do my hair type. No consulation was done before washing my hair. I was just taken to get a shampoo. My hair was tangled because normally i comb my hair out before washing it. I literally had 4 people on my head and sat in the chair from 9:40 to 1:55pm. When washing my hair I had to scratch my own scalp and i helped the girl detangle my hair. No oil was put on my hair during styling and as soon as I walked out my blow out was frizzy. Been going to empire for years and ha always been able count on quality

So there were 2 incidents that make me believe Empire in Kennesaw is the worst Beaty school to attend as a student and also go to as a client. 1. On a cold winter day I went there to get my toes done by my sister who was a student there and needed credits. I was in the middle of having my toes soaking and scrubbed when Quinisha Story (the director at the time) decided to do an impromptu firedrill. Mind you it is 9:16pm at night and cold. My sister had to stop and quickly dry my feet off and I had to put on my thick socks so by the time I was able to come out people were going back in. Also other clients had product and stuff in their hair that needed to be rinsed out it was just a mess. The whole process was ghetto and unperfessional, especially when she paraded around the shop yelling out "firedrill" as if it was fun and games. Come to find out she was supposed to do this a Monday with just the students (not on the floor woth clients) but because she dropped the ball and forgot she decided to do it at a very inconvenient time. 2. On the hottest day of summer I went again to get my hair pressed by my sister so she could get her credits. Melody Jordan, my sister's 5th or 6th teacher that she had since she has been a student not even a year in, decides to yell out to everyone hurry up everyone to which all students and me the only client in the building at the time looked very confused because A they were all getting there stuff together and B no one had a client EXCEPT my sister (which was me). Everyone shrugged it off and kept getting prepared, then she (Melody Jordan) begins yelling out every one have your smocks and what not on and so on whatever. She walks over to my sister and in a rude manner says "you need to put a jacket on or" and before she could finish her sentence my sister said "oh I don't need a jacket cause I got something, I was prepared for yall" and pulled out her shirt she brought just in case they said something about her sleeves being too short. Melody Jordan I guess didn't like that she was prepared because she proceeds to put her hand up and shout "wait a minute" over and over again. Then she says "Yall" as if she was offended that my sister said yall lol. My sister/stylist says "yes yall, just like when you say they but excuse me so i can go put this on". Melody Jordan proceeds to block my sister with an attitude look on her face and an aggressive posture. I was just about to chime in but then my sister was able to squeeze passed her and Melody shouts out "I never said they" and storms away proceeding to say things about my sister as another student comes up to her. It appeared she was trying to say more stuff to the other student so I said "she better watch herself talking to my sister anykind of way cause we both gone have to go off in here on her". I looked at her and she looks at me as if she was gone try to say something else to me, so I told her to keep having her conversation cause she don't want no problems over here. she said something that sounded like a threat so I said "bitch do something or keep walking". She walked off into Quinisha Story's office and creates some lie, that caused Story to come out asking my sister/stylist to come into the office. Story says to my sister "if you don't come to my office you're going to have to clock out and leave". After being in the office for sometime, my sister leaves because there was no point of being in her office when nothing was getting accomplished because it really wasn't that serious and she had changed her shirt. Story told my sister to leave and we left. It was a very odd and unprofessional way of handling things over a shirt. This place seems to have a lot of unnecessary drama and the students are treated with disrespect although ultimately they are the ones paying to be there and the people in charge have no idea of how to run a business properly. read more

listennnn! i do not recommend this place to get your hair done at all!!! and i stand on that! i booked an appointment for a silk press and was quoted $20 over the phone. i get to my appointment and they partner me with a caucasian lady which is no problem (im black btw) but that was res flag number 1! i gave her the benefit of the doubt tho... as she's washing my hair i let her know "dont be afaird to get up in there bc my hair absorbs product" first of all i could barely feel the water touch my scalp not did she even touch my naps in the back but whatever i cant be too choosy when im paying $20 but then when it comes to the whole detangling process shawty tried to use a rat tail comb to detangle with i had to tell her to use a wide tooth comb but even still then my hair has was feeling dry so as she's "detangling" im feeling my hair getting ripped out.... she attempted to blow dry it but that at work either instructors walking around obviously seeing that shes struggling and didnt even step in!!! i had to tell her to stop. and i left and whoever they had at the front desk didnt even bother asking how my experience was or if everything turned out okay.... with that being said if yall gonna offer silk presses (usually directed towards women of color) make sure your students understand different hair textures before putting them on the floor read more

Typically I love this place, today not so much. I let them know i had 3 hours to get 7 foils, trim, and flat iron they said no problem. They didn't have my first 2 choices for color so I went with red, then the teacher suggested blonde with it okay whatever enjoy your creative freedom. They had to color my hair one side at a time since they student picked the wrong developer, now some of my hair is white instead of blonde. This took forever so I didn't have any time to get it dried, trimmed, or straightened. I told the student I needed to leave while she was shampooing my hair and she said okay I got back to the chair and it looked decent then she decided to comb it out and give me a giant puff ponytail on the top of my head. Wtf??? This all ended up costing 32 dollars. I think the girl at the front overcharged me. I asked for 7 foils which would have been 12 on top of the other services I wanted, but due to them being extremely slow knowing I needed to leave they billed it as a partial foil which is supposed to be 25 then the girl at the front said shampoo was a additional charge. Seriously??? You can't put color in your hair without eventually shampooing it, what a scam. Stick to just getting you hair washed and styled. I arrived at approximately 1130, there was only three people getting their haircut and there were two receptionists. I was asked to fill out a chemical waiver statement which I happily did and then approximately five ladies came in behind me (none with appointments, I was standing next to them when they were asked.) One , two, three people were taken in front of me, still three students doing nothing. No one would even look me in the face. After waiting an hour I had to leave. I always get my hair cut at beauty schools because my family members have graduated from them. I'd rather pay 10$ for a hair cut and give the student a better tip. This place is a gamble, as another reviewer mentioned. Many of the students appear to be...ahem, less than motivated. I went in for a wash, blow dry, flat iron and cut. Pretty basic stuff and I was pleased with the quality of my stylist, Arlina's, work. HOWEVER, while I was there I witnessed several students goofing off and behaving unprofessionally in front of the few clients there. Here's some background information on my review and experience at Empire: I called DAYS before coming to verify that the students here were able and WILLING to do natural hair. I understand it's not most stylist's favorite type of hair to do. They said their students were "advanced" and able to do all types of hair. I, also, asked if they had any natural hair care products. They confirmed that they did. I arrived at 6:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, as a walk-in, signed my name, and waited to be called. The customer service coordinator informed me that their credit card machine was down; so, I drove to go get cash. FIRST INCONVENIENCE. It took almost two hours after my return from the ATM to actually be paired with a stylist. SECOND INCONVENIENCE. I requested from the stylist, TAKILA, that she use natural hair care products. Her name was not printed on my receipt ,as it should have been. I had to ask her supervisor for her name. She stated, "we don't carry a natural hair care line" with an attitude. I informed her that I was assured prior to coming to empire that there were products to meet my needs. She stated they only had non-sulfate products. I agreed to proceed with the non sulfate products. She, then, brought out 6 (read that again) different liquids in SIPPY cups (read that again, too). I said, "WAIT A MINUTE what's in all that?" This is when she really got angry. I mean let's be real...anyone would want to know what product is going in their hair, especially if they are NOT IN A labeled bottle. (side-eye). She went down the line of all the products she would be using. Sighhhhhhhh THIRD INCONVENIENCE. Now y'all know that if you're doing natural hair, you've gotta section it off and comb it out. Ummm This woman attempted to comb my hair, as a WHOLE, as if I had a perm. I requested she section it off and use the comb that I brought from home. Get this....she tells me, " I'm not sectioning out your entire head." I'm sorry. I was informed you knew how to do natural hair. I was NOT informed that this was YOUR appointment and you were paying. So she runs to her supervisor, Harvey, to complain and ask him to do the work for her. (I kid you not) He actually came back and combed out my hair for her!!! I, also, requested that Takila braid my hair while wet because blow drying damages my hair. She flat out refused to NOT blow dry my hair. She stated it would be easier for her. She had an attitude my entire appointment. FOURTH INCONVENIENCE I also paid for a gel manicure. The materials for the gel manicure were locked away by the office staff. So, I've gotta go back to that God-Forsaken place and claim my manicure. Harvey was the only decent person working in there. He offered me an apology and another svc for all my inconveniences. A stylist should never: 1. Pull/Snap/Snatch a client's hair. 2. Question what the client wants. 3. Insist that the client get other services, If they are not interested. 4. Have an attitude while the client's hair is in their care. 5. Flat out refuse/ignore a request or question of a client. All my questions and requests were reasonable when getting your hair done. It is a gamble,I know. People are SO picky about who is 'qualified' to touch their mane. Put me in the category of folks who firmly believe that it is just hair,if I do not like it,I am free to wash it out & start over again. I know just as many folks who have paid a lot to get their hair done as I know that did not pay much at all. So,I have NO problem with going to a school to have my hair done. If you go during the week,it is a LOT more like a school. One client,one student, getting it done. If you get there in a timely fashion,you will typically be assigned right away & will only be there for as long as it takes to get your hair done. The teachers are constantly roaming,offering advice,gentle enouragement & stepping in when necessary. The teacher who assigns will usually match you with a person who has the skillset to get the job done,carefully watching if they need help. There was a recent increase in prices that I have yet to see. The conditioner is no longer included in the basic $5 wash with style. So,it will cost you $8. Still not breaking the bank. If you go on Saturday AM,it is much more like being in a salon. The students only come if they need the hours or have nothing better to do. This is usually the better talent,but you might have about 2-4 other folks being worked by the same student. I have waited hours for someone to do my hair. The teachers are still attentive,though. What can get annoying on Saturday is that you can arrive shortly after 9 when they open & the teacher at the counter tells you they are already full. But,students could come in later,but she discouraged you from waiting. Another person comes a while later & are welcomed to stay. I wish they would implement a system to text you when someone is almost ready for you so you do not.lose your Saturday waiting in an area not suited for the volume. If I had a daughter,this would be her spot for hair,no point in stressing myself to do hair when I can give her bells & whistles for $5! When they take you back,they go ahead & take your payment so it is not a scramble at the end. Frustrating because if I am uneasy about the skill of the person,I will sometimes switch what I want them to do. But,refreshing in comparison to the way it is handled in the Perimeter location - if it gets late,they just come & tell you 'gimme yo money,its time for us to go'. I know you can't expect a whole lot when you get your hair done at a beauty school so I always set my expectations accordingly, but this experience was the worst by far. I've been to the Cherry Hill, NJ location and it was great!! professionalism, quick and courteous. Unfortunately, the Kennesaw location - not so much. First of all, I had to wait for 2hrs before someone even touched me. One girl was there so long she just decided to leave. Just about everyone that was there already when I arrived had to be waiting for at least an hour. Someone at the front desk said there's longer waits on Tues and Thurs because a lot of the students are in class or something those days so they have less ppl on the floor. - ok, understandable. I duly noted to never return on those days. I had a curly twist-out at the time that I had done with gel and some other products that made it really set in my hair. After i pay upfront -The 2 girls at the front desk proceed to tell me that I have to have my hair detangled before it's washed with a comb. I understand the thought process, but I let them know I couldn't do that because my hair had gel in it and that would break my hair off. Even so, these chics are still trying to convince me that's their process-a whole other story smh I don't know how they assign their clients to students because it seemed like the students got to pick and choose who or what they wanted to do. Not sure if this is customary at beauty schools or not, but i think a couple of ppl rejected me before someone volunteered to do my hair. That someone was Shakeena or Nikia. My ticket says Nikia, but I swore they kept calling her Shakeena at the salon. Anyway, When I sat in the chair she told me not to worry- she'd make it worth the wait.----SIKE!! that was a joke. While she was very pleasant and attentive at first, as time passed she started rushing thru my hair. She did not thoroughly wash my hair. My scalp wasn't clean. When I scratched it there was residue under my nails-this is my clean hair/scalp test. Instead of blowing my hair dry she sat me under a hairdryer and that's normal. Not for a beauty school-but they do this at professional salons a lot when you have natural or thick hair. However, she did not comb it thru beforehand, which is imperative because I have thick, natural and fairly long hair. And you are not supposed to let the hair dry completely under the hooded dryer according to my past experience at salons. This resulted in my roots still damp and the rest bone-dry. So, she did a quick run thru with the blow dryer which left my scalp STILL damp in spots. Regardless of the fact that my scalp was still damp she proceeds to flat iron my hair anyway. I mention that my hair is probably still wet since I'm hearing it sizzle EVERYTIME she touches the root with the flat iron, but she insists that's not the issue and then eventually says "well it is still a little wet here in this section" and proceeds to blow dry that part. So, visualize half my hair is curled and she's blowdrying another section of hair. smh.. Then she mentions she feels some film or product or something on my hair while she's flat ironing it.- UH DUH!! maybe perhaps because you didn't freakin wash my hair properly??!! This right here is the kicker though -The whole time this girl's flat ironing my hair and is not passing through it not even once with a comb-just sectioning and flat ironing!! ugh!! Once I realize what she's doing I bring it to her attention and she insists that my hair is fine. At this point I am pissed and just ready for her to get it over with so I can get the hell out of there. While she's so obviously rushing thru my hair she mentions the fact that she has 2 sew-ins waiting for her that she's running late for (outside of school). WTH! My feeling is - not my problem!! If you didn't have time to do my hair then you shouldn't have volunteered. So, at the end of the day I waited 2 hours just to have this chic rush thru my hair and do a 1/2 a#@ job!! And when she was done she had a nerve to ask if I liked it and said and I quote "This was the best rush job I ever did." Even if you're just in school, you should still take pride in your work. You never know who could be a potential long term client. I did see a few other clients walk out with their hair looking decent and I'm sure all the students aren't terrible, but it didn't appear that an instructor was watching over her at all during any step in the process. I guess they all left as the day was coming to a close. The "tone at the top" sets the bar for the students. So I guess the leaders here are a little too lax. My recommendation is if you don't live too far I'd say go to Esani instead. I would have rather driven an hour to Esani than have endured this chic at Empire. It costs a little more, but it's worth it. I definitely got what I paid for at Empire yesterday!! In hindsight i wish I would've just left the minute she refused to comb my hair. read more

My wife has been using this facility and for some time suggested, that I should try them also. I realize that Empire Beauty School, is a "School", where future professionals are, learning, developing, improving their skills. So in choosing to go there, I was prepared to expect any unexpected event. The only event I've experience, they were not able to process credit card payment, only accepting cash. This only occurred on one visit. There appeared to be a malfinction not within their direct control. Luckily, I was not personally inconvenienced. I have been there several times and I am very pleased with the service that I received during each visit. I always schedule an appointment, arrive early, and my wait time has been minimal (less than 15 minutes). The staff (students, receptionist, teachers) were courteous and professional. Both my fiance and I went in for haircuts. It's a great deal considering we both got haircuts for the price it usually costs for just him to have his done at a regular 'Clips' type place. We both had a great experience. Brittany Donovan was my Student Stylist and my fiance had Chris Smith. They both did phenomenal jobs and went above and beyond our expectations. We will definitely be going back. When you go I advise that you aren't on any time restraints. We were in there for two hours. I didn't mind because we had the whole day and it was relaxation time for me. These guys are still learning so they aren't as quick-handed as a professional would be but they are extremely talented. I think a lot of schools can learn from empire. The last time I went, it was a disaster because the guy was nervous and had no clue. I really felt bad for him. Sometimes there's a bad apple in the mix, however, when it comes to a blow dry and flat iron...it's pretty consistent. The student who did my hair, Alex, did a wonderful job. I think she was the best by far. And her professionalism is better than any master stylists I've gone to. She gave me product suggestions, tips on how to grow my hair, and gave me a really good cut. The school is very disorganized. I am writing my review prior to the service. I waited a long time for the service then I was called up and paid and was asked to sit back down to wait for the service. Also, upon arrival I was told the site took credit cards so when I was called to pay the machine was broken and I was asked to go to the bank and get cash. The machine was fixed by the person after I got back from the bank and now people are using the machine. I was fortunate enough to have a stylist who only needed a few hours before she was finished with the course. I really wish I had gotten her name. I thought that was the standard for the school, I would not have thought the school would have let people work on real people if they were not ready. The 2nd and the last time I will ever go I had someone who still had a year to go, who does not deserve to be called a stylist, she could not make a move without asking the so called supv and after the two of them cut my hair I looked a hot mess, very uneven on both sides (2 inches when I measured it at home) because they had their own touch and the way they pulled it before they cut it was different. I really could have done it better myself and I will in the future. They will never see me again! I'm not going to be another guinea pig for a student who really should still be playing with dolls because she is not ready for the real thing. She could not even wash hair good. I did not even feel her fingers in my hair. I think she was scared of my type of hair. I was concerned initially when I saw her because we were different races but I gave her a chance. This school staff is the most unprofessional, rude, and immoral staff I have ever experienced. They don't allow you to create your own signature style. If you complete a hair style that is your own creative idea, the staff will parade it around making fun of it and then grade it according to how well they like you. The staff plays favorites with the dress code, grading scale and overall attitude. No matter how sweet, calm and levelheaded you are, they will try and push you to break. I'm a professional person and have been in customer service all my life, so I did the right thing and kept my cool, walked away and transferred to a different school where I am celebrated and I can express my creativity in my work. In past years I've had perms done here and been happy, however, the last two times I've went I've been told "we have to cut your hair two inches or we won't do it".. mind you, 6 months earlier I cut it about 7-8", so I told them I'm only comfortable with 1" and felt I was being bullied into cutting my hair the 2" (oh fyi I have layers so imagine the outcome of that). I asked all these questions before making the appt and explained I don't have the luxury of wasted time as I work alot and was ensured I would not have the same problem I had at my prior visit. Needless to say, complete waste of time coupled with attitude. Did she think I didn't notice that bs look she gave to her fellow classmate and the laugh they shared after? But still, let me sit down for you to continue waste my time because you're too damn lazy to perm my long thick hair and use the excuse that you HAVE TO cut it knowing I'm not ok with that much being taken off. It took absolutely everything I had in me to not snap..as I'm trying to leave and take this brauds $2 cape off, she's telling me "I'll take MY cape off you"..smdh I almost came out of character but decided to take the high road, go to a real salon and let her be the ratchet she's accustomed to being. I received a call shortly after from a "higher up", I'm assuming, offering me a free service but I declined. I don't want any service from Empire free or cheap. As a matter of fact, I'll make sure everyone I know never has this experience. Fyi you can tell as soon as they come to get you from the lobby that they're not happy doing your service by the sourpuss facial expressions you get as they're leading you back to their chair to put their musty cape on you. There's alot more to this but moral of the story is, Empire doesn't generate professionals but definitely create "I do hair from my kitchen" hacks. read more

omg...I will NEVER go here....waited 48min.....no one informed me as to how long I would be sitting there for....was left there just sitting....finally I left and all I was there for was a patch test as they require this 24patch test to be preformed on your skin before they will color your hair!This is sooooooo NOT worth the wait.........I will go else whaere read more
