I took my 7 year old daughter who has special needs there to get her hair done. The staff were friendly and professional. The wait time was reasonable. I was able to sit in the waiting area while she received services. I was pleased with the time it took to was and twist her natural hair. I was even more pleased with the quality of work along with suggestions on how to maintain her hair and get the most out of the style. They've gained not one but two customers. read more

I can't say enough good things about the school. I am so glad I found it. I came on 1/2 price Wednesdays for seniors. needless to say, I will be a regular. The regular prices are good and of course even better when half priced. I appreciated that on Wednesdays, they play old school music for the seniors. A BIG PLUS! Black & Woman Owned and operated-- Another plus. They did a GREAT job with my hair with a wash, condition, and flat iron. The hair came out bone straight as shown in the pictures. Teachers monitor the work of the students so you never have to worry about mess ups. I support the great atmospere and work that was done on me. I also received a pedicure, however, the pedicurist left out the leg message that usually accompanies a pedicure, but a small price to pay for a $7.50 pedicure. This is a very detailed review since I've been here three times for service. I've started my loc journey in June 2020. Since then I've been here 3 times for a retwist. Each time a different student retwisted my locs and my locs always looked amazing after. I'll leave pictures of each time so you can judge for yourself. When it comes the price, they are very affordable. A retwist is only $35. Yes, $35 for a retwist no matter the length or thickness of the loc and this also includes a wash. They have daily specials so try to go on a Monday for the add another service that's less for free or Tuesday for the add on a select services for $2. They also have barbershop and a full service spa. Also if you have a certain product you like to use on your hair you can bring it to be used. When it comes to covid practices, a mask is needed to enter and during your service. They will check your temperature before you pay for your service. The stations are spaced out so you have 6 feet between you and the next customer. This is my new home for my hair because I know I'm in good hands no matter which student retwist my hair. I graduated from Shearz in May 2024 I will also insert a picture below of my certificate because I noticed while reading the reviews they tend to lie and say students never attended their school to avoid bad press my classmate Tamia Ashley wrote a review and they chose to lie and say she never attended when I know she did because she was my classmate which is crazy that they would lie on her knowing they are at fault for being such a terrible school. Shearz by far the worst place to go if you're trying to pursue a career in cosmetology. My first two weeks attending Shearz I was immediately put on the floor to service clients with zero knowledge of what I am doing it's against regulations with the state board for any student to do any services on clients until they have at least 200 hours of theory. They don't follow rules in regulations when in comes to the safety of clients as a new student I had a client for lash extensions which I had to do with hair glue because that's all they had I told the Owner/ Teacher Tiffany at the time that was wrong and I know that due to the fact that I've taken lash courses and just from common sense hair glue has no reason to be on someone's eyes. When I told her that it wasn't right her response was that she doesn't know anything about lashes and that's all they have but as one of the owners you should make sure your school has the proper supplies to do these services. At Shearz the only thing they care about is taking your money to fund their lifestyles and use students as hairstylist on clients the entire school day I can count on both hands how many days we did actual theory. If you enroll at this school be prepared to take clients everyday barely learning anything you need in order to pass state board it will be completely up to you to learn and teach yourself everything after graduating I've had to pay for practical courses and theory courses in order to learn anything in order to take my state board test which is not right considering I payed for a education but instead I was used as a hairstylist for a salon when in fact it should've been a school experience I wasted 9 months going to Shearz. The owners Jasmine and Tiffany will try to tell you Shearz is great school and they will put down schools like Paul Mitchell , Aveda , and Empire Beauty School as if they're not good schools and Shearz provides better learning and a different curriculum for minorities but it is all a lie everything they claim they will teach you about natural hair is a complete lie If it Wasn't For Ms.Erica and Ms.Benita I would've learned nothing at all they no longer work there anymore. My last month at Shearz they gave us a new instructor who wasn't and still isn't a licensed instructor she was a student instructor who knew absolutely nothing and would try to teach us things that aren't even on the state board test and when I told her she told me she didn't care and that's what she would be teaching her name was Ms.Kat. They also will tamper with your hours and your credits to try to keep you enrolled in order to have stylist to service their clients in my opinion it's a lot of fraudulent things going on at Shearz but nobody has ever said anything they just let them continue to do things against regulations but I will not .The past few months since I graduated I talked to multiple other students and they feel the same way they feel like they were robbed of their education and their money dealing with Shearz. I'm taking it upon myself to contact state board so that they know what is going on and to ensure others don't have to go through what my fellow classmates and I had to. And when you all respond to this review to claim everything is false know that I have plenty of pictures of proof of everything I'm saying you also may try to have my review removed but it will also be posted on yelp where it cannot be removed.
