Hair appointment with Alyssa M. Went well. I was told she was nervous as I was her first client on the floor. Well I must say she exceeded my expectations, as I tried to talk to her in hopes of making her feel comfortable I decided after a while to fall back as it may have made matters worse for her. I've been a customer there for years and never have I left unsatisfied. The atmosphere there is ​very warm, cozy, very inviting, and always clean. The last time I visited was during the holidays, I was greeted with pleasant customer service.The ​student that was going to do my hair greeted me with kindness and courtesy, She is guided by well professional instructors. After sitting in her chair, she politely asked me "how can I be of service". She Introduced herself as Zacharia, and I immediately replied to her as what I wanted her to assist me with. She was very thorough as what she was doing apon each faze of her task. She kept me alert by conversing about very interesting topics. The instructors was occasionally watching on to instill there professional knowledge. Afterwards I was very pleased by the work she had done. I am actually alumni of Empire Beauty School but from another state and they were my first beauty school that I attended. I graduated over 20 years ago.. I was very excited to see this West Palm Beach, Florida location while going to a restaurant in the area. In the past I learned a lot at the Empire in NYC, I even returned for certifications, that's how much respect I have for the school. Ok let me get to it... My mind wondered when I saw the school "what's going on 20 years later?"... So I decided to call to schedule a hair appointment for a wash, conditioner, blow dry and silk press just to experience being back at Empire. I was honestly a little nervous because after all the students are trainees and ... well you know. Anyway the experience was A+! My appointment was at 1pm, I was in the stylist chair by 1:15pm being greeted by a teacher named Ms. Kayla and a student stylist name Sarah. Ms. Kayla was very professional with her interaction with me and giving her student stylist instructions without making her feel incompetent and that was awesome to see. My stylist was very professional and knew exactly what her assignment was with my hair. She gave me a consultation, which I explained my issues and she never once disregarded them, I appreciate that. My hair came out beyond my expectations, the texture was amazing and I will definitely be back to get my hair done again by Sarah while she's there. The school was very clean, the staff & other students greeted me friendly and my experience was perfect! This Empire location is definitely keeping up with the high standards of education for their students, based on my experience. I was a model for an educators demo Ms. Samantha, I met my skincare professional there who demonstrated the basics of a professional facial while Ms. Sam walked her students through the lesson. Her students were clearly engaged, asked questions related to skincare, setup, procedures as well as safe and sterile practice. So I have been coming to empire for about 10 years across the country. Never had an experience like this. First of all I am pretty upset with the services. I went in there for a cut and conditioning treatment, and 3 hours later came out with a greasy head, and a half of cut. Everything took so long! The teachers were chatting around with other students. My young lady was sweet but needed direction. At one point she was burning my scalp so bad I wanted to cry. My clothes were stained red, in pretty sure it was because an old smock was used, and it had red hair color on it. I left the salon with my hair slicked back. I had been there for 3 hours and was late to a holiday party, but ended up missing the party because I was so embarrassed of my hair that I just had to go home. My final complaint was about the stylist. I really liked her, but I am pretty sure she has Tourette's syndrome as she constantly spoke to herself, and it was vulgar language. I am not shaming her, nor would I have not gone with her for services even if I had known this, but someone warn me! Let me know a head of time, because for the first hour I thought she was angry with me. Shame on the teachers for not giving her more guidance and paying more attention to the clients. I just called to try to enroll my stepdaughter who was already enrolled in Cosmetology in Illinois and decided she wanted to come here and get license. I felt like I was dealing with a used car salesman. She already recvd her FAFSA. I tried to call to find out when the school started (twice a year, 1st monday of the month, 1st and 15th etc) and he wanted me to come in an sit down with him. I told him I was not going to waste my time if they only enroll twice a year and she comes after deadline. OK next question "How much for the Cosmetology course?" another thing he would not answer "Well we need to sit down with you and discuss" no you don't !!! There should be a set price for the 1200 hours needed. Very bad business practices. read more

There is a lot I can say about this school. When I first started my journey into the cosmetology career I started at a different school that I was extremely dissapointed with. Empire was a mere 5 more minutes up the road so I decided to check it out And i signed up the same day. Empire made everything go as smooth as possible when it came to transferring. I was very pleased with the school and even still after graduating and receiving my license. Unfortunatley girls will be girls. There is drama, catty fights and a lot of BS with other students. No school you go to will be free of that. There were a few times where I questioned the decisions of the faculty but again they are people, they aren't always going to have the answer that pleases you. Empire is pricey yes but I felt as though I got my money's worth. Equipment could have been a bit better but you replace things as you get further along anyways. There was a lot of stealing when it came to clips and combs and sometimes even clippers. I replaced the smaller stuff but the school did give me a new pair of clippers. A dollar bag of clips wasn't much to get mad over. There were many days when I wanted to quit due to home life but Ms. Burnside never let it happen. She would sit there while I cried and told me to suck it up and finish my hours and I did. If it wasn't for her I might not have finished. Sure there are plenty of people who will hate Empire and the teachers or Mr Stephen. But I can honestly say I Love Mr. Stephen and every teacher at that school. I now have a life because of them. The worst part about Empire were the clients. I don't understand people who go to a school and pay $9 bucks for a blow-dry and expect $250 worth of service. read more

Do not attend school here. They allow the girls to be sexually harassed by customers and when they complain they are threatened and are constantly punished thereafter for minor things. The school is unnecessarily expensive. Just think a year of college at a very expensive top notch university is around 25k bit the program at Empire is 16k for 9 months. Not only that but there are tons of hidden cost such as buying supplies. Equipment is constantly being stolen by some of the shady girls who attend the school forcing you to buy new equipment all the time. I could go on and on about the problems with this location. The student that did my facial was nice and courteous. The good ends here. The facial table was super uncomfortable. There was no privacy, I was in the middle of the room, lying in a summer dress,no sheet or blanket or anything. No steam on the skin, no extractions, the facial lasted 20 minutes maximum and cost $30 with the tip. I got cleanser, toner, moisturizer, mask. It was really a joke. This school does not have the means to do facials, so they really should not offer them and take people's money for something that one can do in own bathroom. The staff and some of the students have horrible attitudes, specifically the staff. Months ago, on my first visit, the staff was great and friendly. Now, they have a new educator and she exhibits a low level of customer service. Her attitude is awful and insulting. I am currently a salon student at Empire Beauty school in westpalm okeechobee. When i signed up i was under the impression that i would be learning from teachers who wanted to see their students succeed. Sad to say , that is not the case . The only teachers we learn From are Ms.Jen & Ms.Kayla . I was in pre- salon for 3 months with Ms.Rosche & i didnt learn anything from her. Instead of teaching Ms.Rosche would much rather sit at the podium on her phone for hours . ( Like right now for instance it is currently 11:23 am , class started at 9:00am and we haven't done anything . Everyone is currently on their phones doing their own thing while she is playing candy crush on her phone) . While in pre-salon , I couldn't wait to get out onto the salon floor where I would finally be learning from Ms.Kayla & Ms.Jen & also Mr.Gregory ! I was there for about two - three weeks before The Covid-19 and i learned more in those few weeks than i did in those three months of pre-salon . Sadly , after Covid , our dean of the school Mr.Roy thought switching our teachers would be a solution to students not learning in pre-salon . Although, it may have helped the pre-salon students , now us senior students have Ms.Rosche again & its taking a big toll on us & our education because we are no longer learning anything . Instead we sit in class and goof off all day . Mr.Roy seems to have no care for education or us in general. All the senior students came together one day in Mr.Roys office to discuss or issues and concerns about our education, we tried to explain to him that we weren't learning anything in class with Ms.Rosche . & Instead of listening to us , he continued to cut us off and talk over us telling us stories about his brother & also saying " I wont go to jail for you guys" which confused us all cause we had no clue as to what he was talking about. After about 45 mins of his rambling he finally told us some changes would be made . This was FALSE ! Us salon students are still not learning anything and no changes have been made at all . The only time Mr.Roy shows any "real" concern about us students is when corporate is here and he is trying to make sure we are all in dress code & if we happen to be out of dress code with corporate present he threatens to send us home . Which is VERY hypocritical because the dress code is HARDLY enforced ! They pick and choose who gets to come out of dress code when ever they please while other students HAVE to oblige or else they threaten to clock us out . This is EXTREMELY unfair ! I have many many MANYY more issues about this school that most likely other students would agree with , BUT I'd rather not type up a book .The ONLY positive thing about Empire Beauty Is Ms.Kayla & Ms.Jen . These are the only two teachers who truly care about us students ALL EQUALLY! They help us in every way they possibly can . The worst exprience I ever had school staff is unpleasent and not helpful even went to the head of the school to ask for help with this matter! they are all for each other not the person trying to attend the school! Seems to me they except anyone without smarts about the beauty field I have been licenced 25 yrs and a certified makeup artist they could not stand the fact i had more knowlege than the instructor they Could not pull a fast one on me! I was a student attending this school and alot of the times we we're talked down to and dismissed, and we felt as if there was nothing we could do about it because we signed a contract and mr. stephen made it seem like "oh well you've signed a contract you're responsible for the full amount of your tuition" weather or not we decided to fully complete the program or not. So unprofessional in the way they do business with customers. Evelyn who works in the office decided to pass me to another stylist when I had already made an appointment to see a particular stylist. I was told when I got there that the stylist is overbooked and could not take me. No one called prior to inform me and she had the nerve to tell me that I'm BANNED from ever coming to the salon because I refused to accept her recommendation of having someone whom I have never met do my hair. This woman thinks she owns the company. I may not be the only person she's doing this to. I chose not to go back until she no longer works there. Management needs to investigate.
