In 1941, a group of deaf men met on a regular basis in a clubroom located at 21 Front Street in Rochester. They were members of the so-called Rochester Sphinx Club. Socials and other entertainments were planned to raise money to pay the rent of the clubroom. The club incorporated in 1945, and the name was changed to Rochester Recreation Club for the Deaf, Inc. (RRCD). Women were eventually allowed to join. Socializing was very popular as there were no ttys, no tv captioning, no open-captioned movies at theaters. People met at the club to catch up on news, and make plans or other appointments. From 1945 to 1966, the club met at various locations, renting space when needed. RRCD began hosting New York State Bowling Tournaments. They also started showing 16-mm captioned films every weekend, sometimes showing twice in an evening to handle the large crowds. In 1966, RRCD purchased a building at 1275-1279 St. Paul Street for $12,000. Members volunteered their services fixing up the club into presentable condition; more socials were planned and membership grew. Bingo, Bank Night, weekly bowling leagues, and euchre games were frequent social events. A number of educational programs were presented for the members. In February 1989, the clubhouse burned down, due to arson. For one and a half years, the members had no place for their meetings, so they met at Perry's Bowling Lanes, and began searching for a new clubhouse. In 1991, a building was purchased at 1564 Lyell Avenue for $144,000. After remodeling, the building officially opened in 1992. Many bowling tournaments were hosted by RRCD. Super Bowl parties were held with the club's 52-inch TV. Steer Roasts kicked off the fall season each year. A local publication, Deaf Rochester News was sponsored by RRCD for ten years. Interpreters were welcomed as members, and new programs such as D.E.A.R. and R.E.A.P. were started. Euchre became popular and drew many new members. Soon the mortgage was paid off, with a note-burning ceremony. Other local organizations began using the clubhouse for their events. A new website was started in 2006. RRCD has truly become a hub for the Rochester Deaf Community.

The Sociale restaurant like all things at the Del Lago is start to go downhill. I am a diabetic…read moreperson and they recently stopped offering "Sweet and Low" sugar substitute. They now only offer cheaper substitute brands. At the same time they switched sausage patties the ones which are smaller around and less thick and don't taste as good. My wife told me that the switched breakfast syrup and the new syrup has little flavor and is watery. Finally, on the casino floor they stopped offering free Heineken and Carona beer. If you like Bud Light they still offer that. Overall the quality of these little things has gown downhill. However, they have forgotten that it is the quality of the little things that counts to show that they really care about you.

The table games are generally pretty full. I can not imagine what it's like on the weekends when all the tables are open. The table game's minimums start at 5, 10, 25, 50 depending on which game it is. The slots are plenty. Hundreds of all kinds. I don't play a lot of slots, but when i have, i've won here. Only $20 - 60, but a win is a win. If you are intimidated by the tables, they have automatic craps and roulette games. The roulette is pretty dated and could really should be updated. Mostly because the interface is kinda a pain, but it still works. The staff is super friendly and are happy to answer any dumb questions i have. Customer service is top notch. The cleaning crew is really on top of things. The main floor, bathrooms, dining areas are all spotless. The thing that really stands out about this place is that the people seem happy. They call each other by their names. They joke and laugh. This is not the atmosphere that I usually see at the other NY casinos.

The prime rib was the hands down winner, and is what makes this buffet worth the new price. Especially, since it's all you can eat. If you are going to eat prime rib, this is the place to do it. She was very attentive, on point, and accommodating. My BF likes a glass of milk after his meal, but before he takes his last bite. Something, that is not easy to time when dining out. When he told her that, it was a a joke, he never expects it to work out. But this woman delivered. Very impressive. I tipped her 16.00 on a 62.00 tab, because the Buffett seemed much slower than usual, and I thought she could use some kindness back. It was not very busy, as a result we had a private table, away from others. We both have cancer, and with it being flu season, we agreed to only go if they were not busy. Bingo! Today was the day. I cannot eat enough to make it worth it for my price point. Which I knew going in, but I really wanted to go for my BF. He was super excited about it. Enjoyed it very much and ate 3 huge helping of prime rib. So it's worth it for me to go with him. Plus it makes him so happy. Me personally, I'm a bit of a food snob, there was not much I did like, but what I did like, I really liked. There really isn't anything on the Buffett that I cannot make better myself. They had Lots of prepared foods. Scrambled eggs out of a box, sausage that is something like brown and serve, tasteless sausage gravy. Paper thin bacon. It would probably be faster if I tell you what I enjoyed, besides the prime rib, because that was surprisingly superb. I liked the Korean wings, coffee, pumpkin pancakes, the mini Belgian waffles, which I think is a great idea. Who is going to eat an entire waffle at a buffet? The regular fried chicken was good. Salad and fixings were fantastic. No to the rest of it. The deserts are just like Costco deserts. Same with the appetizers, like the egg rolls, dumplings, French fries were under lights getting cold and not moving. I will only go for my BF, and he only asks Once or twice a year, so I'm fine with it. If you go, go for the prime rib, and the sides like mashed potatoes, gravy, a nice salad, and look at the rest as bonus food. You can't go wrong that way.

They…read moremake you go through a metal detector which is bad enough and then they have what looks like security at an airport only worse they wanted to take my picture, and also take my license. It was worse than trying to board an airplane instead of just going in to eat at the buffet. If you like your privacy don't go there. Whoever came up with that airport security to get into place should be fired. It's supposed to be a fun place not a police state security adventure trying to get in.
