We recently completed our bathroom renovation in a 1946 building in Jackson Heights. It was a full-scale renovation - we took it right down to the studs. The centerpiece was a deep soaking tub with a marble tub surround and deck that I designed myself. For marble fabrication, I turned to Empire. Empire had a remnant of just the kind of statuary marble I was looking for at just the size I needed. There was even some leftover that they cut into pieces for my shower niche, threshhold and window sill. And because it was a remnant from a kitchen they had already finished, they quoted me a really good price. Their installers were excellent. It took them about 5 hours and they were very patient and diligent. (The corner where the double apron meets the deck was a tricky bit that they had to hone on the spot.) Before going to Empire I had read the mixed reviews here - and having worked with them, I think I understand the issues that the reviewers are reporting. Empire did a great job for me. I have no complaints. But Lucy, the owner, as has been mentioned many times here, is prickly. I chalk it up to a cultural barrier. Really, she should not be dealing hands-on with the public. She just doesn't have the customer service talent. Anna in the front office is a sweetheart. But in the end, Lucy calls the shots, and she is rough. I heard through the grapevine that she has been burned a few times by clients who didn't have the vision to understand what their choices would look like - until they were installed. So now she takes every precaution not to be on the losing end of a job gone sour. I would take some bad reviews with a grain of salt. Many many people do not have the vision to understand what their product choices are going to look like - until it's too late. It's an industry wide problem, and why its so important to employ a designer to work with the public who has that talent for customer service. As for my experience? I would use Empire again. For their great prices and great quality of fabrication and installation. My one word of advice is to negotiate your contract up front. Read it carefully. The industry standard is 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 payments. That is, 1/3 up front. 1/3 after inspecting fabrication. 1/3 after installation. But Empire will try to get you for all but a few $ before installation. This happened to me and it felt like swinging in the wind to pay Lucy almost 100% before final installation. My experience turned out okay, but if I had it to do again, I would have made sure it was the standard 1/3 at each phase. The other thing that happened that I would caution about - nearing the end of the installation, one of the installers said he was running out to get something from his truck and asked my contractor for the keys so that he wouldn't have to buzz. My contractor handed them over without thinking. Did you know that if the fabricator has your keys and the job goes sour, Empire is legally still in your apartment and can rip the whole thing out? Yep. So, word to the wise about that. In the end, my renovation turned out great and I would use Empire again. But forewarned is forearmed.

I've been going here for years, and don't even shop around anymore, the prices and quality are always great! They really know what they're doing, have a great selection, and the prices are the best! When they install, they make sure it's done right, and to code! Working longer and harder than scheduled if needed "the customer must be happy" they say! Without trying to negotiate for more money. Old School, I love it! I've done kitchens, bathrooms, and recently a stoop top. All amazing!

Even if you are in NYC like we are!…read more Roger and his team are the only people I will recommend without reservation from our renovation. There work was careful, extraordinary, fast and beyond reasonably priced. They not only made us a great counter and backsplash they installed it with ease. The difficulty of our space is there isn't a flat or straight wall in our 1929 apartment. These guys cut a piece of stone perfectly for us. From initial conversation to measurements to two installs within one week (first counter then the backsplash) these guys were easy to deal with. Roger is great, his office staff quick to respond and clearly one of the best decisions of this whole process to use him! Good? Call him - NOW!

We had a deeply disappointing experience with Artistic Stone and, based on that experience, cannot…read morerecommend them. We hired Artistic Stone to replace our kitchen countertops and fireplace hearth with quartz and chose to extend the quartz up the kitchen walls for a seamless backsplash. To prepare, we removed our existing white subway tile. Although our installation was already delayed due to an "installer emergency," the situation worsened on installation day. Three of the four pieces arrived cut incorrectly, leaving large, noticeable gaps around the fireplace and along the kitchen walls. The installers attempted to persuade us to accept the pieces as they were, which was unacceptable given the cost of the project. After they contacted their team, they attributed the mistakes to their templating software and accepted no responsibility. That same day--for the very first time--we were informed that our cabinet trim would have to be removed for the quartz backsplash to be installed, as they were unwilling to cut around it. This had not been mentioned at any point during six weeks of communication or even during the in‑home templating appointment just a week and a half earlier. Because removing the trim risked damaging our cabinets (which were glued and screwed together), we had no choice but to abandon the quartz backsplash plan entirely and reinstall subway tile--bringing us back to our original setup at roughly twice the cost, which we had to arrange ourselves. When we attempted to speak to the owner about these issues, we were told he was "off the grid." When he eventually called from a blocked number, he did not provide his name. When we requested compensation for the incorrect cuts, delays, and added expenses, we were told they were already "eating the cost" of recutting the pieces--even though the mistakes were theirs alone. After several days of back‑and‑forth, the only concession offered was a minimal discount of a few hundred dollars, despite our paying nearly $13,000. We were initially told the process from templating to installation would take 4-6 business days. Instead, it extended beyond two weeks, and we were forced to move into our new home with no backsplash, no sink, and no functioning cooktop. In our opinion, Artistic Stone was disorganized, unprofessional, and unwilling to take responsibility for their errors. Communication was poor, the mistakes were substantial, and the resolution offered was inadequate. We do not take leaving a negative review lightly, but given the significant investment of time, money, and stress involved, we feel it is necessary to share our experience.

The new cabinets & granite countertop are beautiful and I am just so relieved and happy I initiated this project, that Jason was a part of it and it's done exactly how I imagined. He really worked with us and was so nice and responsive and super kind when I asked questions about ideas that wouldn't work well. He gave my fairly small project as much attention I imagine as the much larger ones they do and I really hope he's available when I have a much larger project I'm thinking about. From start to finish, the experience has been a joy. So typical of NYC apartments in older buildings, the kitchen was awkward in shape and the walls frequently not square and sometimes not plumb, and the solution in our case necessitated custom cabinetry. The quality of the cabinets is outstanding, the plywood components being able to be disassembled when they would not fit through openings, and reassembled in-situ. Each piece was meticulously crafted, the materials used are top-notch, and the finish is flawless, adding an elegant touch to our kitchen, bathroom and bedroom-built-ins. When the original, functional hardware selected by myself for some of our most unique challenges did not perform as expected, the team at KF Kitchen Cabinets worked with me to find alternative solutions and we solved the issues together. The team at KF Kitchen Cabinets was incredibly professional and friendly throughout the entire process. They took the time to understand our vision and offered valuable suggestions to enhance the design. Communication was seamless, and if I were to choose one word to describe the experience it would be "collaborative". The new cabinets have completely transformed our kitchen, bathroom and bedroom making them more functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces. On the day we were to move back in, we discovered that our belongings in our storage facility had succumbed to water damage from a roof-leak. All of our most prized solid walnut furniture, built by the Amish to my own designs some 12 years prior all sustained water and mold-damage. Due to trust and my deep satisfaction working with Jason and the team at KF Kitchen Cabinets, I asked them to provide a quote to refurbish all of it and submit to our insurance company, and eventually this was accepted and KF Kitchen Cabinets restored, delivered and installed all of it for us. It looks better today due to a few modifications than when it was first made. The more I worked with them the more I wanted to work with them; to that end they build two additional cabinetry items to make our office/computer area neater/tidier to my specific designs/sketches. If you're looking for outstanding cabinetmaking services, whether kitchen, bathroom or 'other', I highly recommend KF Kitchen Cabinets. Their exceptional craftsmanship and collaborative customer service set them apart, and they truly exceeded my expectations. Thank you, KF Kitchen Cabinets for turning our renovated spaces from the old and clunky, into a sleek, contemporary and efficient reality! We love it and I have received numerous compliments from my design and architecture friends and associates as well as our neighbors and we could not be happier. I would not hesitate in wholeheartedly recommending them.
